Roving Wool (shown below) and a felting needle....I have pattern books that show how to make different animals... in this case just do the colors to match the dog.
Have a good night.
Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends
BEST: Due to DS17's DEMAND....I watched "UP" tonight.... I recommend it as a film for you all to watch....Betty - Rent it tomorrow..you will LOVE it... :)
WORST: Family Problems.....DSD's are now at DH's EX's...... Not Good News there....
Learned: DH will accept ANY explanation..Valid...or NOT Valid...for his daughters NOT treating me with respect....and apparently ..it's MY fault that his daughters have NO respect for ME or Him.....HMmmm...
Mary I honestly can say my heart goes out to you..after Roger died I remarried the nicest, kindest but most gullible man in the world, his grown daughter I'm sure was an off-spring from Satan, now that's a lot for me to say..respect didn't even enter the picture, step grandchildren were encouraged to use every cuss word towards me, to do their best at hurting me etc. thus, here I am living contently on my own...
Sending you warm hugs...
Barb, you up??? lol
ok will start the instructions over..please do try one..they make excellent gifts for someone who enjoys sewing...
Materials needed:
Material with a design (your option)
2 pieces 21 1/2 by 10 1/2
Solid color (but if you don't have any, co-ordinating pattern would do...
need 2 pieces 13 x 10 1/2 - folded and ironed so that you now have 2) 6 1/2 x 10 1/2
Also 1 piece approx. 7" x 10 1/2" ( sewn lengthwise to make a tube) now you've a piece approx 3 1/2" wide by 10 1/2 inches long...
Batting...I use the heavier white 'so soft' that I use for crafts, if you don't have any but have regular batting cut a few and layer them ...you need 21 1/2 by 10 1/2
With tube made, stuff with light batting leaving approx 1" at both ends NOT stuffed..don't stuff too tightly or your pins won't go in..
Now for placement..
I place the 2 pieces of 22 1/2 and put the batting same cut one on top of each other, fold in half..I pin one of the pockets (pin just enough to hold it for a sec) then from where the pocket is starting gradually to up to 1/4 to 1/2" I make an indent..this just gives it a bit of shape...
So now we're ready to put it together
1 piece 22 1/2" is placed good side up
Place the pockets - the 6 1/2 " piece - one at each end making sure the folded seam is towards the tube
Take the tube and with seam (I believe) facing the good side of your 22 1/2 inch piece center in the middle of your 22 1/2" piece & pin or tack together...
Now take your 2nd piece of 22 1/2" and put good side facing good side of your material
Now place your batting and pin the 3 layers together...
Your project is sandwiched in layers...
Sew around leaving one end open
Now those pockets, turn them so they are facing the opposite side of your piece...by doing this you've hidden that sewn edge..don't worry about the pin cushion tube, you just pull it through the piece
Now in the center of each pocket from bottom to top of the pocket, double enforce a seam..each pocket now has 2 seperate areas to hold your treasures.. your project is complete
Hope one of you will show me your finished project..
Again, it look nicer if the pockets are done in different material, guess my not having those dimensions means I'm in need of material..might have to cross over to Joanne Fabrics next week when I'm off..lol..now there is a good excuse

To save on the cost of international mail, Barb, can you send me the instructions for the "trip around the world" afghan. I can crochet squares!!!!
I saw the painted bottle tops - unique. I have some "antique" hot pads made from bottle tops that have crocheted covers. Would love to find some of those patterns. They are sewn together to look like flowers or fruit (grapes).
Betty, I just wanted to tell you your ears must have been burning yesterday!
Paul and I went Christmas shopping, and he took me to Cracker Barrell for dinner! Oh was so nice. I haven't been back since with you. Lots of nice Christmas things, and the dishes with the cardinals are now on sale big time. Most of their Christmas decor on sale 40% off at least.
My best, they now have an "Alan Jackson" section. LOL His CD, cookbook, shirts, hats....I didn't get anything...but ohhhh to look at the mans pictures! LOL I was dreaming over a music box he has....wow so expensive.
I will try to think of someplace to take your Mom. Does she want shopping adventure or something else? I am sure a Casino needed for a little fun nearby?
Mary, I love my daughters...but believe me...step or not...they are a handful. I feel for you, I honestly do and understand.
Shannon is now home from college. She won the battle, mostly for having to have this surgery...There really is no way to have this surgery and attend school. The hill at the college...her not driving...and also needing PT 3 times a week, not going to work......and I will have to deal with her home until we find another college for her....or she makes up her mind she is going to do something with her life. I am not happy about this at all. We really do not "mesh".
Have to run.....Waiting to hear from our dear Shirley and Tubby.
Betty, the projects look great.
Debbie
Debbie, we must have been on same wavelength..mom and Jim were just here and she saw that black wrought iron/glass candle holder and was oooohhhing/ahhhing and I reminded her it was from CrackerBarrel when we met up with you..was a birthday gift to me from her I think..
Lordy you think your girls are a handful..mom's can be same...she's been dying to have all the skylights replaced at the cottage and all of 18 windows, yes, 18 windows..well they were installed this week, she's not pleased at all, because of the trim between each window she might overall have lost maybe 10 inches on a 30 foot length of wall..not please..Jim started to tell her she's never pleased so guess in his defense I told her to stop her complaining, does she not know how lucky she is to have a home, cottage and place in Florida..better start thanking the Lord not complaining..wow..she and sister Sharon got into it last week, said she only has 1 daughter now, maybe after today she has none..lol
How wonderful you went out to eat..a treat for sure..and too bout, got to look at Alan Jackson memoribilia (?)..
Mom opening her gifts..
Hi everyone!! Took the day off from the computer to do other things yesterday.
The shot has helped my foot in some respect but not in others. I still have that pressure point right at the top center of my foot, and my toes hurt but I think that's from the shot. He said it could take 5 days to get the full effects, so I'm still gimping around but it is better.
I didn't fix the faucet, the basin wrench was too big for the bolt, so I went to Lowe's yesterday and talked to a master plumber and he suggested lifting the faucet completely out and tightening the bolt that way with a normal wrench, so Dave's going to try that later, he just got up and has to go to work in a bit.
Betty be careful!! Falls are dangerous and scary! Nothing worse than the whole family treating you bad, that's just sad that people have to behave like that.
Well I'm off like a herd of turtles! See ya'll later!
Crissy, maybe you aren't staying OFF your foot long enough for it to heal...best you go get that cross stitch or another project and just relax, as the doctor says, could take several days to work...
Zinc is a bigger job than you think...am sure Dave will have it repaired in no time..
I could do so much more..lol..if I didn't have to wait for paint to dry...
Missy says hi everyone..
Hi Missy!!!!!!
Everyone must be busy, going to call it a night/weekend myself..starting to snow heavily, oh Lordy what I wouldn't give for a snowday tomorrow..lol..
Barb, Aline dropped in, was having trouble with a project..omg the cutest sewing project, it's a mitt where when walking you and your DH each put a hand into to keep warm..adorable..she couldn't figure out how to do the placement so that when she pulled from bad side to right side it would be correct..we figured it out..she said she'd sew one for me..told her she'd better find me the man to walk hand and hand with to go with it...gave her the floral arrangement I did for her..she loved it..
Thought I'd best walk over to Bernice and Cliff's and deliver theirs..her decorations are spectacular..I always admired a pair of wooden skates she did that Cliff had cut out....the skates themselves were done in black, painted red poinsettia and leaves painted on the upper heal..skates tied with ribbon.. they hang from their fireplace..each year I eye them up..lol..well look what I've got to paint..Cliff cut me my very own set..
When done because my bedroom is done to look Victorian I'll hang them on the fireplace...excited about this..will have to trace the pattern because I know I'll want to make some for next year...
Know I should be basecoating other gold items on the cd cabinet but I'm tired..best I can do if I can do anything will be to make grannie squares while enjoying the evening..
more likely than not I'll be sound asleep by 7am..
Enjoyed sharing my day with you..hoping that you've had the kind of day that makes you happy..
Best..all around enjoyable day
Worse..no worse
What did I learn...highly unlikely I'll get to stay home the entire Christmas week..mom says she just has to get away somewhere so now I have to figure out where I shall take her...
night/night
Good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow..
Hello All;
Thank you Betty for your reply....that's the funny thing...now that DSD1&2 are out of the house...and I have enjoyed the most wonderful peaceful weekend with DS ....
What scares me from your comment is realizing that when they grow up & move out...things probably wont' change...and them moving is all I have hope for right now....because I do so love DH and want to have him to spend the rest of my life with....
Thank you Debbie! My MIL says it's b/c they are "teens"...but I really don't remember being THIS bad when I was a teen...
I was on FB the other night. My Sister was chatting with me...and asked how the "Girls liked their Birthday gifts that she mailed..." Well - I was not aware that they had received any gifts.... but apparently they had. They never told me. DS2 got a $100+ pearl set for her sweet 16...and DS1 got a really nice art set. I was SO upset...that they hid this from me....And there was more to the story...after that....
Crissy - "Off like a herd of Turtles!" LOL I'll have to remember that...
Has anyone else seen "UP"? If not - I highly recommend it to everyone! I laughed out loud and cried.... It's amazing that DS17 made me watch a Disney cartoon like he did....
Hugs to all,
Mary
Oh Mary, how dreadful..bad enough they are teens let alone going through the step-mom thing...rebels they are..the stories I could tell...ohhhh won't go there..too nice of a morning..haven't seen 'up' but will get it to watch over the holidays...
Back to painting this morning, no rest for the wicked they say...
It snowed a bit last night, didn't amount to much but the temps are well below zero..think I'll go plug in my car just to make sure it starts when I'm ready to leave..
Nice thought knowing today and tomorrow are the only days left to work until the new year...
Talk later..
Look who posted on the old thread! What great news!

Oh Debbie, thanks for transferring his message to this thread..
Tubby, How exciting is this, having you home, you do know you must do what Shirley asks right? lol..we've been praying..don't you forget, miracles do happen!
Think of it that you are resting up for garden time...by the time spring comes you'll be putting that wheel chair in storage...
You've just made my day..been worried about you...
Oh Happy Day!!! Oh Happy Day! When Tubby posts! Oh Happy Day!!!!
What a wonderful surprise this morning> Norm asked me about you not more than an hour ago. We are SOOOOOO happy now. We're sure you will be good so you can stay home RIGHT.
Sending you and Shirley our warmest wishes for the best Christmas ever and for all good things in the New Year.
ALL RIGHT!!!! That's awesome, thanks for transferring that over here Debbie! That just made the best of my day list!
My foot is bruised where he put the needle in and that's where the pain is coming from, from what I can tell. Going to take til at least Christmas to heal. How in the world can a itty bitty needle do so much damage? My goodness!
Hi Missy!!
Mary I was a horrible teen, I'm like Betty and not going to talk about it. LOL
Dave has from Christmas Eve through the New Year off, then back to work for a week then he reaches his lay off date. Pray he doesn't get laid off, poor guy is so stressed he can't keep anything straight.
Well I'm at work and got to get at it so I'll see ya'll later!
Crissy, you'd best book a flight to Canada then and have a good old fashion Christmas with me...lol..no not you Crissy, bet you were an easy teen to deal with lol..
Barb...what sewing projects are you up to today..
I just addressed an envelope to send you the pattern..have to stop at Staples at lunch to photo copy in color the picture..color photo would be a helpful tool...
Thanks Betty. That "trip Around the World" pattern I referred to is a quilting pattern that your crocheted afghan looks like. I was complimenting you on its similarity. I love the look. I am making a "Boston Common" quilt now that has some of the same looks as your afghan. The picture below is the center of the quilt. I can so picture it done in crochet with granny squares also.
That's beautiful..do you do individual squares or do you do panels, cut strips and match..similar to how I do the quilt sweaters?
Ohhh Aline called, she's the lady that was doing the glove that sweethearts can walk hand and hand using the one glove..she needed help yesterday aft. and we got it figured out..she just called and said worked like a charm and she's made 3..lol..now all I need is a man and I can have one as well..lol

Are they hard? Norm and I hold hands all the time when we are out walking. I love the way people stare!!!! WHAT? Haven't they ever seen older people holding hands????
No actually very easy...it's almost like the pincushion project..where each layer is put one on top of each other then inverted...you just have to know which layer goes which way...too adorable..maybe I can sketch it for you..no maybe I'll wait until Wednesday at the Christmas party I'm having for the gals..I'll ask her to bring it then I can show you it...she said it took 1/2 hr....excellent gift item
That would be wonderful. And I thank you so much. These little projects you are sharing with me will make wonderful presents throughout the year or for next Christmas or the craft table at church. You are such a sweetheart for sharing like this. These little gifts are so clever and you never knew you needed them until you got one!!!!!
The quilt center above - I sew strips of the various colors together, Then cut into widths and then resew back together offsetting the colors. It is time consuming but I love the effect. There will be a plain border around this center and then another round of the colors. I hope to have the top done by the middle of January. I'll keep you posted!
Yes, same as what I do with the knitted, quilted block sweaters...tedious but fun..
I love sharing especially when those I share with make them and enjoy giving them as gifts...great ways to use up left overs...I'll have to show you my plastic lined thread catcher...
OMG Betty - you have so many of these teasers!!!! You can keep me going for a year!!!!
The color in your quilt is gorgeous, any idea what you will use for border?
My cross stitch quilt is out being hand quilted by church quilters, had thought they might call to tell me it's ready before Christmas, wouldn't that be nice..have no idea what I'll do with it except to display...
Yes, have all kinds of projects for you..wouldn't want you to be idle...my wallet zipper is broken and I know in my pattern box I've the pattern for a nice wallet, lots of areas for $$$/cc's and id..I'm putting off purchasing one in hopes I make myself one...should get a few girls together with me who made them with me, between all of us I'm sure we can figure it out..lol..most likely cheaper to go buy one though!
