"And cat poo can be even more toxic than doggy doo"

Maybe the French can be trusted ^_^

I've never kissed my SUV on the nose.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Where have you kissed it?!! ^_^

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Victor, too funny.

All three were great entertainment tonight, plus DS, the ringleader.

Basically it comes down to this. Are you an inside or outside kind of person? Inside people like cats more and outside people like cats more.

Now, there are exceptions like toy dogs that are basically cat wanna be. I bet if outside people could own bobcats or ocelots then you would definitely have a lot of conversions.

Cleo was the great overseer of the activity.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes! Cat or cat?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice! I suspect the dog threw the kitty out in the first place, though. ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Another one for cats!

Poor kitty!

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it is too dark to read.

I think I've had almost every pet known, at one time or another.

When I lived at home with my parents, my two sisters were still living at home at the time, we had a harem of Leopard Geckos, 4 parrots (2 Solomon Island Eclectus, 1 Caninde (Blue throated) Macaw, and 1 African Grey (Congo), 2 Guinea Pigs, 2 Hamsters, and 2 dogs--1 Cocker Spaniel and 1 Boston Terrier.

My father despises cats, so we never had one...or we probably would have had a few...lol.

Fast forward to now: We currently, the "we" here being Paul and myself, 3 cats (Doofy, Ivan and Ivy) and 2 dogs (my Komondor-Theta, and our Pug-Iris). I have to agree with just about everyone...both that are pro/con cat, or pro/con dog. Dogs are the ultimate in unconditional love. Theta is always uber excited when we get home, tail thwacking into whatever it meets, and Iris doing her hyped up Pug snorting, wiggles to see us. BUT, the cats...Doofy, if he's downstairs, will come and greet us, Ivan, does his kitten trill and comes a running, and if it's just me Ivy stays wherever she's at, if it's just Paul, or Paul and myself, she comes a running...mewing and purring as if she hasn't seen him in years.

In regard to the, um, exiting strategies used by both pets...lol...well, yes, you don't have to walk a cat in the cold, BUT, you do have to scoop their left overs, and I don't care what you put into a litter box, or what kind of litter you are using, you have to be fooling yourself to think that it smells good...either that or any of you that have cats have no olfactory senses :-) Now dogs on the other hand, they do their business outside...during the winter, not an issue really, but in the summer time, during the heat and humidity...um...I digress...

Unless you have hairless dogs, or hairless cats, they both shed. So there is clean up...regardless...and I don't care what kind of litter is used (we've tried it all) cats have a tendency to take paw fulls of litter and throw it around like Twinker Bell does with pixie dust down in Disney...Yet, if you cut your grass, and don't rake it all up, after the dogs do their business, they bring grass clippings back in.

Dogs will definitely let you know if someone is trying to break in...which is a good thing, but when it's a deliver person, and they don't stop...egad.

There are some days when I am completely and totally smitten with them (both feline and canine) then there are other days where I want them all gone...lol...or just want to throw the towel in and scream, "UNCLE," really loud.

The Pug, always in our laps (she takes turns) as long as we are sitting...once one of us moves though...the Pug race begins. Ivy, she's Pauls buddy, she's never in or near my lap, ever. Doofy, he's an equal opportunity lap user, Ivan is to much of a kitten to really be a lap cat yet. And I made darn sure that Theta knew better...I think lap animals should have weight/size restrictions.

So, in short...lol...Both cats and dogs have their foibles but they also have great attributes. I don't think one is better than the other, because what one lacks the other doesn't, and vice versa. Do I prefer one over the other, nope, would I have more cats and dogs, if I had more space, yep.

It dont matter if its a cat, dog, hampster, bird or what ever. When you take them in, given to you or buy it. When you put your hand out you have made a comittment. In my eyes its death till you part.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

True. You can always throw out a spouse.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Funny!

Thomaston, CT

I agree, Sherrie....I have a very damaged dog because three homes tossed him before he was 18 months---I've kept him 6 years, & love him dearly, although he has problems.

Too old to throw, Victor. I know Robin - I have a dog that no one could get near. She was ready to tear off my face but I did not back down. The vet almost was down and freaking and passed out. She had 1 more day in the humane society to get an owner or put down. NO one could even get near her. Today she is a pussy cat. I call her pussy everyday.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

um...I'm just waiting...

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL Thom, me too!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think he is still in the corner

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Pirl hasn't let him out yet? Or did he get sent a second time today ? LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee. Just checking in now. Spent the whole day cleaning the house. Wish I could train my cats to do it for me.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

besides a full day of cooking tomorrow need to clean the house too - started to tonight and realized it was all my wife's stuff so i left it for her. i'll end up vacuuming when everything is cleared.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Such restraint, Victor. Wow, men cleaning house. I love it! Will you come over here next?

Thom, your stories about your pets was great. I enjoyed reading about each one and the pros and cons. Thanks!

South Hamilton, MA

Anyone want to come & trim the tree? I'm bushed & store was out of eggnog. Will have to look for that tomorrow.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I'm still laughing over Thom's post #7393644 and the following questions about Victor's corner status!
Casey just raised a ruckus. As I was telling her to be quiet it occurred to me that I really should check outside. Last time she got vocal and I ignored it, my car was broken into and my GPS was stolen. Dogs always bark for a reason, we're just not sure why.

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins are calling it quits???? too sad. Sorry, was listening to the news while posting.

Thomaston, CT

Glad you stayed by your dog, Sherrie. Did someone mention cleaning the house? That was today's fun---oh, & cleaning the car, too---and shoveling away the drifts from the sidewalk----Merry Christmas!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

received Marley and me from netflix - wife cried for the last 20 minutes of the movie - bad choice she wants a puppy

Thomaston, CT

I cried when I read the book---my cousin Jim, who's big & rugged, cried when he saw the film according to his wife---they own a yellow lab, & when he dies, I don't want to be around----there are many quiet, well-behaved dogs around, Bill---I just don't happen to have any! But your wife might like a Cavalier King Charles---they are lap dogs.

North Augusta, ON

Or an American Cocker Spaniel!
Seriously huggable, mellow and loyal.
