We have sent for a feeder with a tail board for piliated woodpeckers. I know there is one around in the summer & can only hope.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Iris, Here is a pileated for you. You may have seen this before as I posted it last summer.

The last one. Everyone's in such a hurry.

Thank you for the picture HallyAnn & the information Nanny. We could hear the local piliated but seldom saw it. I think it lives in the local woods. We saw it for the first time a couple yrs ago on a dead birch which suddenly sighed & fell (the birch) on its own last summer. I think that was perhaps the edge of its territory. Maybe the suet feeder with tailprop will coax it around. Other wps are welcome of course. the downy will visit the regular feeder & sometimes is anoying by drumming on the house. The downy bothered a neighbor's house so much that they had to have the edge of their roof replaced.

Yep, all Sanderlings.

CC, love your pretty Scrub Jay. Think I like seeing these birds because their pretty color stands out in the green trees.
Burn, wish I could see your pretty jay here. Love that top crest on these birds. Cute starling and wp too.
Iris, hope that new feeder will attract your Pileated for you. We had one at our local state park and it sure damaged the side of the visitor center. They finally put out a wp house for it and so far that's working.
Holly, love the photo of your Pileated. Your shorebirds are cute little guys too.

Our Brewers Blackbirds are still constant visitors to the feeder box.

Burd, I think you were right about these Northern Flickers being a male and a female.

Here's another one of them.

I love photographing the woodpeckers but I'm always just a little too far away from them. My husband got me a large tree branch and drilled holes in it. We put it out on the deck (2 floors up) and I filled the holes with peanut butter and nuts but it's been three days and still no birds. It's only about 15 ft. from our nut feeder box but I'm wondering if maybe it's too close to the house? Also, all the curtains are closed on the windows so they can't see us.

I've also put a seed feeder close to it and this morning I even put chopped nuts up on the top of the branch. Maybe I need to put a sign up on top!

Think the next thing to do would put a nail on top with a corn cob. We'll see what happens. Anyone have a better idea?

HollyAnnS - that pileated WP is just the neatest thing. I wasn't a member of DG last summer, so it is new to me.

ducbucln - patience, I'm not sure that three days is enough time. Have you checked the peanut butter? You may have had a few WP visitors while you weren't looking. Around here, I'll go days between seeing any WPs - and they know where dinner is.

Yes, Hack I do check the peanut butter. Patience? What's that? Teaching myself how to use my camera has taken up all I have! LOL

Duc, Give it time, their very leery of new things. Love the Flicker pair!

Great shot of the Pileated and Sanderlings Holly!

Hack, I love your photos especially the cardinals. We don't have then here.

Holly, Great pics but, the Pilated is awesome.

Duc, I love your photos as always. Would you mind sending me some Flickers. LOL!

Bummer, my battery is dead. There was a Jay playing in the birdbath for about 5 mins and
I didn't get a picture of it. :(

Dunlap, IL

Nice shots everyone, I too like the two flickers together. I haven't taken too many photos lately. Last time I was out I saw thousands of gulls in the surrounding corn fields. These photos don't let the numbers come across, since I only had the zoom lens with me. They were one both side of the road.

They seemed to take turns following the tractor and plow around like it was a shrimp boat. My daughter calls these "Corn Gulls"

Boo, I just love the pic of the downy.

Both of you have cool Juncos.

In shade, so the images aren't much chop, but you'll get the idea that it isn't just the ospreys that the Willie Wagtails harass.
