We've come from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1062236/
It hasn't been good photo weather here recently, so I've dug out a pic from a couple of months ago to start with . . . Greenland White-fronted Goose, with a Greylag Goose behind
Resin
Daily Pics #266
Nice one Resin! Thanks for starting the new thread!
Frm the previous thread:
reddirtretiree - I liked the chickadee and as far as getting up and do something productive -- directive from the boss.-- I feel your pain.
HollyAnnS - I must have missed it, when where you in Fla? Oh, and the pelicans were cool
ducbucln - pretty Oak Titmouse.
nanny_56 - nice capture of the White-breasted Nuthatch .
pelletory - I like the swan, I've haven't come across one wince I started birding.
ducbucln - that California Quail sure is an unusual looking bird.
dirt_in_ozone7b - that is a lot of birds on that suet feeder.
Now the new Thread
Resin - I enjoyed the Greenland White-fronted and Greylag Geese. It's been bad weather (rain and cold) around here, but I swear, I seen a lot of activity.
I shot all the following pics on the same day, 12/13/09, in about a 45 minute period. Since it was raining I was sitting in a blind - my car.
Here's a real pretty female Cardinal.

Great shots on the last thread everyone! Thx for starting a new thread Resin, nice shot of the Geese!
Dirt those Bushtit's look ravenous lol.
Hack, really like the way you did your photo's!
Well I went and got a new camera. Canon Rebel T1i. Only have 2 pictures of a White-breasted Nuthatch, the camera came with 2 lenses but the larger is only a 55-255mm so I,m not as close as with my point and shoot. But the photos come out nice enough with some cropping. 1st pic is the original.
Heck of a shot Knip!
Burd_Fotos - I know you're going to enjoy the new Canon Rebel T1i. My biggest lens is an 70-300. I do have 1.4x and 2x Tamron Teleconverters, but haven't used them much, yet - I need to wait for a sunny day and do some comparison shots.
Your pics of the Nuthatch can out real good. Shows nice detail.
I keep playing around with presentation within my photos. I tend to like the ones were I drag the original over to the side and then enlarge a copy of it.
Hack
kniphofia - Nice snap of the cormorant, those mallards also look good.
Burd_Fotos - 45 feet away,and cropped - sweet.

Thx Hack, I may cheat and move the feeder's closer lol. I need to check out the teleconverter's to see if their worth the purchase.
Great pics!! Thanks for the new thread Resin!
Nice shots everyone!
Good ones Hack. I just saw one of the Red-bellied Woodpeckers here yesterday. They have been absent for almost 2 months.
Burd, Nice to see the Nuthatch.
Knip, Thats a wonderful shot!
Burd, Good shot of Elvis.
We went out on a nature tour, looking for dolphins, manatees and birds. It was pretty interesting and I really learned a lot about the area and the serious issues they were having. I really didn't know what I had gotten myself into and neither did most of the other passengers. I've been on nature tours where you looked at the animals and got a light dose of environmental management. This tour came with a "very heavy" injection of environmental mismanagement. Although I enjoyed the whole tour and found her views very interesting, it was pretty heavy and I know that some of the people did not.
We got a good look at Magnificent Frigatebirds on those islands, too. I have only even seen them flying. Never nesting.
Funny she kept calling them Magnificent Frigatebirds. I had only ever heard them called Frigatebirds so I thought she just meant that the Frigates were "magnificent."
Until I got back and looked them up in my bird book.. I learned a lot on that nature tour. I think this might be a shot of the Frigates but I realy can't tell and we were a bit far for my camera.
Those are really neat Holly! Yes that last one is an Osprey.
HollyAnnS, your 2nd pic is of Black Vultures also, nice shots!
Thanks Burd, Then I don't have any of the Magnificent Frigatebirds. I did see them but they must have been on the island that we couldn't get close enough to get a pic.
Burd_Fotos - Moving the feeders closer will help. My feeders are all within 26 yds (used my range finder) of my most distant viewing point (in my garage). I now realize I have an advantage - a few of my feeders are near where I park my car, at the end of the driveway. I think the birds are accustomed to seeing it nearby. My idea of sitting in it to take photos sprouted because it was raining. But, now that I know it works, I'm gonna do it my ofter. That puts me within 15 feet of a few of my feeders.
About the teleconverters, the 1.4x Tamron works really good, autofocus (AF) is good with it. And I don't fool with the aperture at all. Of course, it works best on a nice sunny day. I really like the 1.4x, even though most of the pics I've taken are without it. With it on, my 70-300 becomes a 98-420 (multiply 70 and 300 by 1.4). A dang sight cheaper than a Canon 100-400 lens. When the mark on the lens is smack dab on 300, it doesn't want to AF (so I use MF, then), but when I put the mark on the "3" of the 300 on the lens, AF is instant - so I guess I'm getting 400 easily and 420 it I MF the lens.
As far as the 2x goes, I only got it recently and we haven't had a day of sunshine since. With an overcast/raining sky, I don't like it - but I think it's because of the low-light conditions. I understand that it works best on a sunny day. Because the 2x Tamron makes the lens' AF work hard, I find myself using manual focus (MF) when I have the 2x attached. When I get a sunny day again, I'm gonna give the 2x a work-out But right now, the jury is still out on the 2x. But, I've seen some nice pics on the internet, so I'm optimistic. I sure hope it works, because with the 2x attached, my 70-300 lens goes up to 140-600.
-----------
HollyAnnS - I'm glad you had fun on your Fla trip. It probably beats the weather you're having now. Nice capture of the flying Osprey. The only vultures I've seen, since I been a birder (less than a year) are either soaring around the sky, or on the ground when I never have my camera.

Hack, I ended up moving the feeder's 5 ft closer, its overcast and rained most the day yesterday, snow is coming so I,m ready when the birds are. Don't think my birds like wet food but its getting cold right now and the food will dry out. Wednesday should be a little sun. I did look up the converter's and read some reviews, some not happy because of the auto focus, but it is a cheaper alternative then buying a larger lens.
Burd
