Margaret, You sure have some cool birds in The Land From Down Under.
Daily Pics #266
Guess the wagtails are nesting. Are the Kookies a threat or is that testosterone poisoning? I hafta ask, is that an old gum tree?
3 house finches just hanging about.
Boojum, the WWT's are probably nesting for the second time this season. I'm fairly sure I could hear babies in a nest somewhere nearby and yes, the Kookaburras pose a real threat to chicks in the nest and fledglings as well. Yes, it's a gum tree. I'm not certain which one, but it sure is beautiful.
How perfect!
Nice pics everyone!
Well, I didn't go hunting, with my camera as planned. Too, many errands to run.
I'll surely go tomorrow.
But the photos on these last several threads are out-of-this-world good.
chris8796 - it's obvious from your pics that you are covered up in those "Corn Gulls" - wow.
boojum - that Chickadee looks like its freezing, but I'll bet its not as cold as I think, all puffed up like that.
MargaretK - It reckon the Kooky couldn't ignore the WWTs forever. Kinda like around here, I often see a small bird(s) hot on the tail of a much bigger bird, nipping at its "heels". Don't know why the big bird puts up with the harassment.

Booj They don't know the song (good old girl Scouts) but can see why the gum tree is used in the verse.

Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra.
What great pics everyone.
Chris just loved the shots of your corn gulls. I saw a whole flock of parking lot gulls the other day. LOL
Margaret. How fun that must have been to watch. I agree with claudcat you really do have some interesting birds down there.
I have some Blue Jays and WP outside and since I've shown you all my trip pics I guess I better go and see what I can get a pic of today.
Fancy version. didn't have the verse about 'please save some for me--gumdrops. thank you posting it, boojum--it gives people the tune.
Hoping I will get a pic of something soon....Great job y'all!
I just watched and listened to the video, boojum. I've never heard that song before. You must have thought my answer to your question about it being an old gum tree was fairly dry.
I watched a few of the other videos as well. The sound that this one is making is so very typical. The young Kookaburras sound like a human being being strangled. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc_-icFHwQo&feature=fvw
Chris, great shots of the gulls. I had to laugh at the "corn" gulls. Kids sure come up with cute names. Cute junco!
Boo, cute wp, chickadee and juncos. Stay warm!
Margaret, those wagtails sure can be stubborn. Love the Kookaburra photos!
Great job on the Oak Titmouse and House Finch.
This picture isn't great because I took it through a window, but these Brewers Blackbirds were being mean to each other.
Nice Shots Everyone!! Duc, your Big Boss photo is beautiful!
It is easy to spend a couple hours a day catching up on threads here. Here's a couple shots from this morning, the way the sun is I get some window glare, but at the end of December we start gaining light again, so the sun will get a little higher (I think) as the days go by.
I love the sounds from the Kookaburra!!
Nice flight shot Burd!
Lovely pics Duc!
Great job Burd! Your two sparrows look like they still have their "baby colored" bills. Love the finch in flight and the nuthatch is adorable.
All I can say is WOW!!
I did have one nice shot of a Flicker but I accidentally deleted it so nothing from me today.
Well, I went to my hunting property today. While sitting in my chair blind these three gobblers (Wild Turkeys) walked on the field across from me, I'd say about 75-80 yards away.
Taken with my Canon 40D, with the Canon 70-300 IS USM lens set on 300mm.

Duc , Love the scrub Jay and the Mockingbird, and all those shots of the birds with berries. I thought of you when I first saw the Grackle at the feeder. He could not make the trip south this year, don't know if he'll survive the winter in this area.
Burd; What a brave little Nuthatch, cute that you got an action shot of it free falling, and those finches are very nice.
Claudcat, nice bird bath, I can see why, the dove are attracted to it. I think the Doves and Starlings have drawn in a Cooper's Hawk here.
There was one in the tree next door, last Sunday. One might have been a meal, there was wing tracks in the snow.
The injured Grackle.
Hack, What great shots, we have turkeys in our area and I see them quite often. Mostly not close enough for my camera. There is a flock that roams not far from my son's home that has a white turkey in it.
Hack, Cool turkey shots!
Burn, All of them beautiful. I really like the Starlings.
