mmmmmmm Scotch eggs........Jaye - we have them quite often - love 'em
Never had 'em with dijon mustard though. I'm going to have to try that. Usually have 'em with a tomato sauce. They're a meal in themselves, whole. Also, usually have 'em with ground beef, but have had 'em with ground pork. I think ground turkey would work as well.
Well, today's my "home" day in which I try to do all my housework, running around, and getting ready for Christmas, so had better get at it.
Bless you all, lovely sistahs!

Greetings from the midst of Cookie-Geddon (you've heard of armegedon? same thing, with christmas cookie baking)
my 30 yr old daughter and friends have invaded my kitchen(s). We have very little counterspace, but Randall and I were up early clearing and scouring and sanitizing. There's 3 countertops, two about 2.5' long, and the L shaped space in the corner between the stovetop and sink about 4'. so tight quarters. DD and the wife of one of her High school crew both brought their Kitchenaid stand mixers. They both have nicer ones than mine and I'm trying not to drool. But each counterspace has a mix station set up.
There's one 6' banquet table along one side completely covered with ingredients, another spread on one end with a "sifting station" and the other end, which is close to the oven (upstairs) spread with cooling racks. The kitchen table, covered in Christmas plastic tablecloth, is the "build the cookie" area.
I started before they got here with my new banana bread in mini-loaf pans, and the cornflake cookie recipe y'all posted on here. They took one cookie and divided it, "testing" it out, and have all decreed it's delightful, though a bit delicate for the gift baskets they will create. One says it's the perfect cookie for serving with vanilla ice cream at a nice dinner. The banana bread is about to come out of the oven.
They've already got a thin mint cookie recipe almost finished that smells so divine I've got to get the recipe, and are almost finished with homemade marshmellows, a recipe DD found on the web last year that has been such a hit she's got orders! (they don't keep well, but never last that long anyway).
I'm in my chair resting for the moment. Since I was giving them oven space, and have already washed and dried all dishes created thus far, my back and feet need a break.
IT'S SNOWING OUTSIDE. they are in my kitchen gayly trying to see how many Disney movie songs they can sing and which ones will stick in their heads. THEY NIXED ME PLAYING CHRISTMAS TUNES ON CABLE.
((((((((bet there are more dishes by now, and I"m going to go start candied nuts)))))
Ladies, I finally found the cat I wanted for my GGD! It meows, blinks it's eyes, rubs it's face with it's paw, and will turn over for you to rub it's belly! My cat, Marmie, loves it! He talks to it and wants me to take it out of it's box! It took nearly every cent I had, but I got it!
We had a Christmas get-to-gether in the community room here, and management provided 3 huge trayes of finger foods, and we brought desserts. Afterwards we played games, and the manager, the maintance lady and myself sang harmony. I enjoyed that more than I have enjoyed anything in a long while!
We may get a White Christmas this year. I might leave to go to Lisa's on Wed. to avoid driving in it!
Merry Christmas to all!
Audrey, I'm so glad you had such a wonderful day. It's a really warm feeling when our friends are happy.
where'd my post go? I must be doing something wrong again. That was a long post.
Just wanted to let y'all know Aunt Polly passed away early Thursday a.m. We drove to a party last night in Chapel Hill through freezing rain, sleet and snow - scary. It's my favorite Christmas party every year, but this year a lot of very very old friends stayed home. Sad to hear one delightful English couple (he's a former math prof at Duke U., she's a typical English lady, gardener, sings cantatas) have gone very downhill recently, moved into independent living and still losing mental accuity and no longer going out much. Their son is also a math prof and one of Randall's oldest friends here.
We left early due to the weather, which had cleared up to just rain. Got home to Dad's message, so I called. He's been feeling poorly, and I think he forgot to call and let me know. The funeral was today in Miss., and I wasn't able to make arrangments I could afford on such short notice. He doesn't feel up to going at all. Was very bummed at bedtime.
I'm taking another break from Cookie-Geddon. They are on to more mint cookies (they are MARVELOUS), 4th batch of marshmellows, and I've cleaned a lot of bowls and measuring cups! LOL The camraderie going on is lifting my spirits. I'm going to jump back in and try this SI recipe for date bars.
Jaye, I’d love to partake of the scotch eggs, or for that matter rashers of bacon, eggs, toast, etc… Not good for you, but oh so good!
Audrey, that’s one of the things Sage wanted, but we couldn’t find one.
Bonjon, I’m sorry that you and your dad weren’t able to make it to the funeral. It’s always hard when someone dies, or, like the English couple, goes downhill. I’m glad you are able to find some comfort on here.
Donna--I emailed you and it came back. Wanted to let you know Ladybug has not been seen. Neighbors and I scoured the entire park, checking sheds, under the trailers and the field, pond areas--Concensus of opinion is that she was stolen. I am keeping Rascal in at night and neighbors are watching out for him during the day. I took a bad fall yesterday--when I got to work it was raining heavily and when I unlocked door and walked in, I slid/skated on the hardwood foyer. Landed on my back and I now have a severely swollen knee. I am trying to deal with it without seeing a Dr but may have to if it does not improve. I have a high tolerance of pain but this is getting where I cannot walk without severe pain. This was my bad knee to begin with after getting shot in a convenience store robbery 30 yrs ago and was told I would never walk again! HAH! Proved them wrong then but now I wonder if the previous injury will affect the healing on this.
If the Brugs at Bobby's do not freeze this weekend, I will do some cutting for you--will need your address tho!! If I have extras will be glad to share!
Going to take some Ibupropen and try to get some rest/sleep so I can walk tomorrow somewhat.
Jaye--Thank you for the Christmas card!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Kel and wishing you and all my sistahs a wonder Merry Christmas and the best for the New Year
You are all so wonderful and I love you all!
Linda
I was up and running with out breakfast this morning. Do I ever regret that now that I see Jaye make Scotch eggs--love them. Kim makes them also but hasn't since her Dad passed. Those were his very favorites and she just hasn't gotten back in the mood.
Well, at least today was dry! Windy and cooler but no rain, thank goodness for that. We will most likely have our first freeze of the year tomorrow night. I can't remember when it has been this late in the year before we dropped down to 32 or below. Bad news is rain is predicated to return on Thursday similar to what we just had. Positive I am getting a boat now to have handy!!
Jaye, the estimate so far is at $3000.00 but they need to get it on a lift so the adjuster can see the underside around the left front tire area. He told us it is an open end estimate. It goes for it's bandaid on Monday. Charles is still very sore but doing okay.
Well did manage to finish up my shopping today. Had a blast with Kim and my DIL shopping. We sampled ourselves all the way around Costco, turned around and came back again. I told the girls that they had just been taken out to lunch!!
Well stay warm all, dry and if the rough weather is near, stay inside.
Well, here you all are. I don't have this thread on watch and I have been worried about the MIA's. I'm glad to see you all sitting around, sharing recipes, praying for each other and just being together. Merry Christmas to all of my precious DG friends.
SYNDA ;0))))))))))))) I'm still praying for your mom and have been for a while. I'm so glad you posted and I'm so glad she has you.
Jayeeeeeeeee, you didn't learn to cook them eggs down here girl. I've never seen eggs that look like that? :) But they sound awesome. Think I'll try to do some for my guys.
Debbie
What a strange day!
Laura, thank you. Your words are comforting. Was actually looking forward to hugging all those kin, even if it was a funeral. And hearing about old friends losing mental ability same night my dad proved he was too was a double whammy. Dad's taking it hard, as now he and mom are the last of that generation left standing. Went to sleep feeling down.
Linda - oh, I just want to come over there and put that knee on ice! give you a hot toddy, too.
Marion - didn't think y'all got that much cold down your way. Yup, it's cold here, too
But such fun we've had in the kitchen today really lifted me up. Was on my feet to much and paying for it. When it started aching too much in my groin from old surgery, I sat in my chair with a cup of tea which my sweet youngest brought. Randall decided pizza was in order, which left us to continue on. Good thing, as they finished every drop of turkey soup, tucked into the leftover chicken and dumplings, and used up the ham and bread! Sat down to pizza and the movie "Julie/Julia"
Just as we were finishing pizza, Ruth popped her head back upstairs to say the kitten (Faith) was chasing a baby squirrel around the downstairs. The chase got a little frazzled. needed the cat to find the squirrel, cat went at the baby and it took off like a shot somewheres else. repeat. Ended up in our bedroom, my gardening kneepads, a couple flashlights, and the telescoping duster. There's a little rickety balcony off my bedroom, with a sliding patio door. We opened the door and used all my clutter to funnel the baby toward it- but it was not happy to go back outside. I rushed the door to close it, saw it hesitate on the edge, and could not resist calling out, "sorry, you'll have to find your own way down!" and slamming the door. Darn, if it had not been a squirrel, I'd have made that cutie a pet in a heartbeat. about six inches long and huge soft eyes. it had not yet learned to bite - good thing, as it bounced off Ruth a few times getting away. We're all trying to remember how long the back door was open earlier - it got left open for a time.
Well, we loved the movie, and Bevin is back in the kitchen finishing up biscotti and starting the first rum cakes. I'm going to make another batch of banana breads. The Texas Buttermilk brownie recipe is botched - I had to retrieve a copy of my recipe from my sis, who emailed it - but it's not right. in fact, the icing is horrid. But they've started eating the brownies and decreed them decent.
Evening everyone
Lnda Im so sorry to hear that ladybug has not resurfaced and please do take care of youur knee.. I almost took a slide myself today.. It seems I need to remember how to walk in slush again...
Jaye those eggs sound really good. Im more of a omlet kinda girl with lots of cheese and bacon but hey you never know what kind amood I will be in from one night to the next.
Bonjon it sounds like your cookie geddon is taking over..Im so sorry to hear about you both missing the service of your aunt. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Audrey.. Tristen loves those cats and plays with them every time we are in the store.
Good to see another Buckeye on the board.. Again welcome Julie.. Im not sure how far I am from any of you honestly.. lol I havent even gotten further than columbus at the airport yet.
I have a few Updates:
Maxs Uncle Jack is taking chemo 5 days a week for 6 weeks at home, then surgery then another round of chemo... His grandmother who uncle jack was taking care of is down with the flu..
My grandmother fell and broke her hip about a week ago in a nursing home. She has came down with pretty bad dementia and ha sstarted getting violent. My mother is trying to help but her mother hates her right now and on top of it all may have to have knee surgery. She may have torn her miniscus but they cant mri because she has screws in her knee already from a motorcycle wreck 12 years ago so they have to open it up..
The good news is we had BOTH of the girls over last weekend. Teara called and asked Max if she could stay with her sister overnigh. I got some time to talk with her and it seems there is alot more going on than we knew about. She sai she wasnt mad but more ucomfortable by how well she was teated and that she really liked me and wanted to start comming back around. Shes still pretty shy but that bully attitude makes alittle more sense for covering up how she felt now.
We had snow today when we woke up and after I got off work we decided to have a snowball fight out front.. The kids were thrilled as this was the first time they have played in the snow. Cant wai tfor more to come down and maybe tomorrow we will go to the park. Just busy busy,,, Sorry i havent been around much

G'Night Synda, so happy to see you back!!!!
Trisha, glad you and your mom liked the cookies. And yes, they can be made with any cake mix. I love making the chocolate ones using Ande's mints crushed up in them.....chocolate mint is my weakness. But the spice cake mix iced with cream cheese frosting is deeeeeeevine!
Jaye, like Synda said, we have known each other for years...even taught...errr..took a child birth class together (but that would take up an entire thread!)
Linda, even if you just get it x-rayed to know there is no serious damage, don't hesitate going to the doctor. You don't want to be laid up for the holidays.
Synda, tell Dale to stick it.......you know your mom better than anybody. I pray for her every night. Still have that pink blanket she gave me too.
I just got done making hard tack candy, cinnamon, wintergreen, and butter rum. I conned my daughters into making three batches of cookies tonight so I could write.
And, yes Joycet, I would love the opportunity to meet all of you at a reunion this summer......I would love for this summer to already be here.....got our first real snow and my SIL could not make it out of the drive for a minute...we live on a back road......My younger kids get to call off school if the bus can't come get them. (and that happens way too often for me!)
Well, g'night all...
Morning all.....looking at GLARING snow ( the sun is shining really bright) I can't stand to look out side it hurts my eyes. And I'd feel super retarded walking around the house with sunglasses on.People would think I was related to ZZ TOP.......LOL.My kitchen is southern exposure and has a good bit of windows and a laminate floor ,big time glare !!!!!!!!
Julie looking at what time it was that you posted ,and for you to state you were making candy made me crack up...........Harlem Springs ,Christmas cookies,a cop,a cruiser, car stopped running out in God's country, having to walk a mile in a blizzard and almost no clothes.............ROFLMBO, Poor George.
I was standing in my kitchen doorway to take this pic..........seen spots for a while after I took it .....LOL.
And yes Julie Dale is being the biggest roll of generic toilet paper on the shelf !!!!!!!!!!!! The stuff that I need to tell you.But you know how bad I hate to type and I won't bring my car where you live......LOL.
Well, good morning to everyone.
Todd and I went shopping yesterday, and then I spent the rest of the day warpping gifts, and taking a nap! Yesterday just disappeared somewhere!
Linda sorry to hear about your knee, hope it is doing better.
Bon, how much longer are you all baking treats? Wow, they all sound good!
Synda, so glad to see you back here. We missed you!
Donna, glad to hear your making friends with Teara, sounds like she is reaching out to you! Take her and give her a big hugs!
Debbie, glad to see you found the b read crumbs, and followed us here.
Jaye, hope your all doing OK!
Hope everyone is doing OK, and not stuck in this bad weather.
No snow here, but it was 32 when I woke up today! BRRRRRR....
Hugs to all.

HOLIDAY EATING TIPS
1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Holiday spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.
2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare.. You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn in to an eggnog-alcoholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's almost Christmas!
3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.
4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.
5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Holiday party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?
6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.
7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.
8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?
9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some scruples.
10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
Brrrr..... That is cold.
LOL! His nurse sprayed a freezing agent on the top of my foot so I didn't feel the needle at all, just the slight burning of the cortizone going in, and I had my head down so I didn't watch. It's a little better but I can still feel the pressure point, I hope that goes away the next couple of days. If not I'll be going back!
Synda I hope your feeling better hun, sucks to be sick especially this time of year.
Bon love your cookie world! Makes me want to get in there and bake bake bake but I don't want to be on my foot that long.
LOL LK!!! Love it, going to bide by that until January 2nd!
Well I need to get off of this, everyone have a great great day!
I want to let you know that my oldest daughter, Lynn, has a goiter, and is being given a chemo pill next week for it. It was making her heart rate go WAAAY up! She's on meds for it, but they're not doing enough. I'll see her Christmas.
Synda......SHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Oh, and Rick does know it's the one with antlers, and no orange he wants right?)
Crissy.....I think that freezing agent was invented by God. He sprays some in the top of every child at birth with an expected release date of 14 years. The vapors slowly escape through the ears by the age of 21. (Those with larger than life vocal skills refill the gas chamber so it may take longer to clear the head)
Linda Kay, I have been doing that for years......Now you tell me the cut off date is January 2nd!?!?!??!?! Geez, who knew...I thought it was a life plan! lol
Have a great day all.......I got more cookies to bake......
My prayers go out to your daughter...

We just got back from Bill's family Christmas. It was pretty fun. Our little grandsons, Will and Kyle and Bill's neice's baby boy Dean were the only kids there, and they're still too little to be really excited about Santa. We got 15 scratch-off lottery tickets and we won exactly $1.00. We were the big losers. Most of the others got around $5-7. It was still fun scratching them off though! I forgot the huge cookie tray I made to take there and had to come back home and get it. There was so much stuff....oh my....I am really full. Took a pecan pie and sausage balls, too. They had biscuits and gravy, an egg casserole, spinach dip, boiled shrimp, cornbread, and a cheese ball. I tried to pace myself, but I'm still stuffed. I ate one piece of biscotti that my MIL made, and a tiny piece of peanut brittle that my SIL made cause she forced me, but other than that, I didn't have any dessert. I did have two glasses of wine though!
Good to see you all posting. Hope your weekend is wonderful!
Good evenin Sistahs~
Thank you for your understanding of my pain - If the knee continues to be bad I WILL go to the Dr tomorrow. As long as I stay off of it it feels better but a do have to work tomorrow so we will see what happens
I did get out there today on my cane and covered the Plumerias and Staghorn Fern and a few others, but the knee was getting painful and I quit. . The rest are on their own. I am so PO'ed at my yard guy! He called at 8 am and said he would be here by 11 am ---then FINALLY called at 3 pm and said he would catch a bus from SS and could be here by 5---told him to forget it and forget ever doing any work for me again. He KNEW how important this was. The plants that did not make it to GH previously or got covered today are on their own. I did my best and my kitty would not hel!! LOL! Hopefully I did not overdue (though the knee has swelled again after my yard venture) Going to take some Ibupropen and lay down before dinner. I cooked a Corned beef today and it smells great!!
Will be down to 30-31 in am BRRR
Linda

Love y'all.
Good night all.
Evening everyone!
Well, I had a busy week-end, finished my shopping, then spent hours wrapping, listening to music, then today, spent most of it making cookies, and finishing the peanut butter balls. Tomorrow, I mail out the last package, adn I am all done. We will be in San Antonio for Christmas day. Taking Christmas to the grandkids.
Linda, put an icepack on that knee, it will take the swelling down! Hope it is btter soon. Sorry about your plants. but hopefully it won't be too cold for them.
Donna, looks like your having fun, but you need to watcvh out for the slipping and sliding too!
Jaye, sending hugs right back to you, Kel, and the in laws!
Audrey, saying prayers fro your daughter. I don't know what a goiter is, but off to google to search it.
Hey Joyce, sounds like you had a great party, sorry you left the cookies, and had to go back for them.
Stay warm.
LK
Been a long day. Prayers to all....(((((Jaye/Kel))))).
Oh synda I have surely missed your pics and you. I am so thrilled to see you posting> Love ya
Debbie
Debbie I have talked of you so many times to friends and family......I think some of them think you and we have met in person...LOL.As I have everyone on here.Sometimes they'll say now who is this, and how do you know them,it is so funny.I'll tell them you guys never knew I was so worldly....LOL.This past year has been very trying.......at times the only thing keeping me going was our dear Lord and the thought of you all being here, even thought I just hid away in my little block house on the corner. You can ask Julie, when things get too tough for me to deal with ,I'll just shut down ,hide away and self heal.I always come through ,but at times it may take longer than others.I have heard people say ,"I have ask the Lord to help me and he never comes through".But what they don't realize is he won't do it for you,but gives you the ability to do it yourself. You just have to look inside and find the strength to bring yourself through whatever obstacle is trying to knock you down.
Snowing here again today ...........YUCK,YUCK,YUCK!!!!!!!!!!
I just cannot believe Friday is Christmas. We never even put up the tree.Between finances, momma being sick,FAMILY ISSUES, and it all wearing on me physically and mentally on me.I have not even look at on thing to even buy, heck at this point we are lucky to have groceries and thank the dear Lord in heaven for emergency HEAP,at least we have heat. The only gift I want is for momma to talk again, but even at that I still have her.And that is all that matters to me.
Hope and pray everyone has a safe and happy day ~~~~
Love and Hugs to All
My view from our bathroom window.....LOL.

Morning everyone!
Donna, the pictures are beautiful, but you can keep that white stuff!
Synda, my Dad had multiple strokes back in 2001, and he is still with us. He can not speak, but we find other ways to communicarte. Lots of times it is very frustrating because we just can't guess what he wants, but mosrt of the time we do. It is very hard for us to see my dad like this, He can't walk but maybe a few steps with a cane, and he can't talk. We have to bring him his food and meals, dress him... It is a lot of work, but my brothers and Sister all share in taking turns watching him, and he loves to travel.
So hang in there girl, if she can't talk, just talk to her anyway, they love the attention, and when you know she is trying to ask something, ask her 20 question, what is it for, what does it do, where does it go ??? We are sending lots of prayers to you and Mom. If she is on medicare, there are programs that can help. When Dad is here, the State sends someone to the house Monday through Friday, to help me get him out of bed, bathed, dressed, and fed. Make sure she gets all the therapy that is available.
Hope everyone had a great week-end.
Morning Everyone!!
Synda big hugs, thoughts, and prayers going out to you girl!
LK Prayers going out to your dad and family too. I'm assuming he thinks clearly but can't make the connection.
I'm not sure if my weekend was eventful or not, I think so... LOL Dave worked all weekend of course but it's better than the alternative I suppose. I stayed off of the computer completely, which is odd for me, and did other things but I don't remember what I did! LOL Yesterday I worked on my snowman that Betty's got going, wrapped the 5 presents that I had bought throughout the year and stashed for us, had to make a run to Benton to get a couple of paint brushes, watched football, wanted to bake something but couldn't make up my mind what and Dave's fussing about his weight anyway, then he got home from work and made dinner, watched more football, news, whatever else was on tv, and went to bed.
Well I'm at work and have got to get at it, so I'll see ya'll later!
Oh, please pray that Dave doesn't lose his job, the company is shutting down the week between Christmas and New Year like they do every year, then he goes back to work for a week then he reaches his lay off date. This is so scary it's unbelievable.
