"ahem, ahem"...........Its a balmy 8 Degrees here at almost 1:30 PM. They are saying the high will be 11, but I kind of have my doubts on that. And the low tonight will be minus 5 degrees.
Anyone want to talk cold now?
HOHOHO,IT'S SHOPPING WE MUST GO
smiley, I know you get a lot of snow there. I knew part of the storm was going to hit you.
We ended up with almost 15 inches in 24 hours. That's more then we usually get for the month of December.
Madison, to the south of us got 18 inches. My BF's brother lives in that area and he is getting tired of it. Last year they had a record snow fall of over 100 inches.
Hi Ya Kassy...sending tons of warm thought to ya....hope this year doesn't look like last year...grin
Venice, I have a cute snowman cartoon, but I would be band from the site if I put it on ^_^
I hope not too, sent that warmth up this way Jean. JJ will get it then too ^_^
Kassy, send me that cartoon in Dmail!
Hi Venice...how goes it with you today?
what a pretty pic Kassy! It's warmed up to 30 here, which isn't bad but the wind really kicked up, it's howling outside, was blowing the car around. Hmmmm I don't think my new little Japanese maple is liking this.
Smiley you & Moon can take pilates. I got weights to lift.
Joy I was thinking of you the other day.....I was at work and I was sneaking off to the candy machine, had to run through the waiting room to get to it...and a lady says to me "well you just never slow down, that's why your fanny is so small" (I'm pretty sure she was still under the influence of medication at that point) Anyway I was remembering Joy that that word means something much different in England than it does here in America....I learned that many years ago when I announced to the entire flight crew of British Airways that my fanny was wet. I do apologize for the language, ladies.
Watch out Lynn, your right......LOL
My chart friend in scotland use to alwasy ask me how trix were, so one year I sent him a small box a trix, along with a some small heath bars, as he was reading a recipe once when chatting with me and asked me what a heath bar was. So I had to send them to him. I also had to send a small box of lucky charms too, as lucky charms to him were something else...........LOL
Hey, he enjoyed them all ^_^
And "Don't get your knickers in a twist"...........LOL
I had a neighbor at one time who was from England.
yup, gonna get me another warning for that lol
Venice I was at a craft store & they had childrens books, hardcover classics, for $3/each. It was Michaels. I got a bunch of those.
ok I'm back from the deep freeze we call the OUTSIDE....is it spring yet? Then can I hibernate now? LOL
Hi everyone, hope you're all ok,I'm just back from my son Will's school concert,in which he was singing in the choir section. It was in aid of a school in Kenya, with which the school here in Dronfield has a link,so the music and drama tonight had an African theme.I really enjoyed it,in spite of my elder son's telling me not to bother going :}....that's brothers !!!
Kassy, thanks for photos,of Sphinx moth and of course THE SNOW ,to me who's never had to get through it to work and back ,it looks very pretty and the sky, especially on the first one,is beautiful. But,I guess I can say that as I only have to look at it on a photo:},not actually live with it.Thanks for showing it to me,I love to know about new places.
And......I'll make sure my knickers remain un-twisted Lol.
Lynnie, yes, fanny does indeed have a slightly different meaning here,if I say what it means here I'll probably be banned from DG!!!!!! for ever.Lol
You've slightly cooler weather than me today,it's been 32 here, not sure what it's now but as it's 9.15,it's most likely dropped.
This afternoon after I finished work I've been to see my friends in a village about 3 miles from my house, they have what we here call a small-holding,smaller than a farm, but with a few animals, chickens ,2 pigs ,2 goats and one of my best friends,Timmy, the Donkey,he was rescued by an animal welfare group and re-housed with my friend and her DH,as his previous owners had mal-treated him.
He's safe and sound now,and I love him :}
I'm going to wish everyone a good night now,as i've been up a long while, but happily tomorrow's saturday and I can have a good sleep.
Hope you all have a good afternoon/evening ,take care and I'll be in touch tomorrow.
Joy
Joy who cut his hair *grin* Timmy has a nicer yard than me.
I made home made whipped cream yesterday, who wants hot chocolate with whipped cream?
Joy, Timmy is too sweet. So glad he found a good home. have a good night and a great morning.
Wow Lynnie...I like hot cocoa with cream....and almond biscotti...grin
The sun has been out the past couple of days which has been very nice. The whole lake is frozen over but the ice is very thin. Still sleep a lot and lethargic in general. It must be from the meds or else I have a sleeping sickness!
Finally got all those plants repotted. I have 9 elephant plants! Some are pretty scrawny. Well, actually most are because they have lost over half of their leaves. Most have good roots so maybe they will be happier now in separate pots and more apropriate soil. Aloe still doesn't look too good but not any worse. Roots haven't grown any. I have a new hibiscus bud that is ready to open soon. It has dropped more leaves recently. But what can grow when we don't have any sun. Jew looks lanky so I cut a couple pieces off to root. My new Kalanchoe has buds and I really don't know the full name of it. It looks healthy. You know those 6 very tiny broms that were in one pot when I got them? One looks dead but will still take care of it just in case. I repotted the tirangle palm because the clay pot was gross. The palm looks bigger but it is not any taller, hearty roots though.
That frozen soil is baking! It is been in the oven for about 4-5 hours and I should stir it again. It is still pretty wet. Maybe I should increase the temperature.
I had gotten 2 small brass horn ornaments and one similar in a candle holder. I am going to clean them up and put them on the outside of my son's family's presents with ribbon. I was going to keep them but wanted to get them a Christmas ornament for their tree. These will look good and better than anything I have seen in stores.
Sunset was at 5:20PM but it started to look darker at 5:00, so early.
Joy, pretty scenic photo and cool donkey. Looks like he has a very nice home.
Moon can you take another photo of Tooters when he is roaming about?
Have to go to GW for returns tomorrow and talk with my Son one more time.
Is there anyone in the corner now? That mounds recipe looked so easy and good.
Well, hope everyone is having a good day. See Trina, you didn't freeze going outside. You should try being with Kassy up in WI. Now that is cold!
Lynnie, thanks for the tip on Michael's books.
See you all later!

no I'm just depressed adter getting two boxes of frozen plants I purchased that they SWORE they wouldn't senduntil spring! uhg....I hate winter!
Moon, I have the biscotti recipe that belonged to my grandmother. Don't have the almonds, though.
I'll have some of that hot chocolate, Lynnie.
Hello to everyone else. Yes Kassy, we got snow, but mostly south of the city. They got whacked again today with another foot, I think. The sky is was all bright & sunshiney to the north and black as spades to the south.
Best go cook dinner. Son is here, I think he misses eating real food!
can I ask a question that I know is gonna make some people mad?
Hi Venice...sounds like you have a lovely selection of things for your son and his family. keep getting healthier.
Julie, we just add almond paste and extract to the plain biscotti recipe...works rather well. What type of biscotti did your grandmother make Smiley?
Why do we celebrate Christmas (and don't give me the malarky about Christ's birth since this is NOT when he was born but when he DIED)
Easter is when he was born...why did it get changed?
(Just like Thanksgiving was originally in September but President Lincoln changed it to November hoping the civil war would be over and the troops would be home to celebrate with thier families!)
Regular biscotti, Moon. With almonds, almond slivers, pernod, baked, sliced and baked again.
oh come on guys I'm being serious here...why did it get changed?
Christmas is a day used to commemorate the birth of Jesus not the actual day he was born as there are many different theories as to what day and month he was born.
Easter is the day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus after his crucifixion. It was not the day he was born. It was the day he was re-born so to speak.
but he was born from Mary in spring, not anywhere near december..who changed it and why?
mmm Venice, I'll have some baked soil with my hot chocolate ;) sounds yummy.
oooh Hot chocolate, with a little godiva chocolate liquer in it Lynnie? huhuhuh?
sure however you'd like it Trina.
I may have some of that later since it is friday.....AND all the kids are gone for pretty much the WHOLE weekend! not sure I can handle so much quiet!
Well trina that has been debated by many a scholar and since I'm sure there's no-one around that can say they were there it will be debated for years to come.
At the end of the day you have your own beliefs.
Only in your own heart can you decide what that is.
Seems as time goes on the truth gets stretched farther and farther..that is if anyone can actually separate fact from fiction.
hi JJ how are ya?
maybe I wouldn't wrestle with this so much had I never gotten to visit the vatican...so technically I know WHO changed it, I just still don't understand why
Trina, try reading these links about why we celebrate Christmas and why we do it on December 25th.
http://www.essortment.com/all/christmaspagan_rece.htm
http://christianity.about.com/od/christmas/f/christmashistor.htm
Lynnie, you would like this baked soil! It is such a nice dark chocolate brown, warm, fluffy, and will go well with your hot chocolate! Yummy!
I already know all that I want to know why the Catholic church changed it
I know why Lincoln changed Thanksgiving, unfortunately his plan didn't work it still took another 3 years for the war to be over
Trina, this is from the first link.
The answer lies in the pagan origins of Christmas. In ancient Babylon, the feast of the Son of Isis (Goddess of Nature) was celebrated on December 25. Raucous partying, gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift-giving were traditions of this feast.
In 350, Pope Julius I declared that Christ’s birth would be celebrated on December 25. There is little doubt that he was trying to make it as painless as possible for pagan Romans (who remained a majority at that time) to convert to Christianity. The new religion went down a bit easier, knowing that their feasts would not be taken away from them.
Hi Lynnie, I am doing fine thank you.
Done any more shopping with yogurt on your shirt?
