Dahlia dear do you like hushpuppies with or with out onions? Oh I am going by a place to get pthuds later this month. Will bring them too
Offical Muffler Sulking Section (and other Various Chatter)
Wren I do not know as I have never ever had them so it is best if you make them the way you like them.
Lots of onion then. They are easy to make just mix up some corn meal, egg and onion and spoon up small amounts and fry them.
***cough, splutter, hack...***
What the he!! am I doing in the chicken coop....
Good man, Kelly. Now walk her around in circles in the snow until her feet go numb....
Calling all Kitchen Fairys.
I wish to substitute Gingerbread dry cookie mix for the flour in Cmoxon DDDFlan... Since the main ingredient is Flour, that should be ok, but it also has sugar in it so should I cut back on the sugar?
I will be starting it at 7pm pacific time which is in 1 1/2 hours, so PLEASE PLEASE weigh in.
CMOXON glad to see you have recovered from the P*** vapors..
Whereas Me thinks Billy and I need to move to SC and see Wings... OR at least a road trip all over the US to visit each of CHICKSS
MissJestr if you and Billy ever get over here, I will take y'all out for the best seafood you every tasted!!!!!
I suggest a road trip to Iowa should wait until at least April, by which time there will be copious numbers of lambs and goat kids to see, and it won't be so stinkin' cold.
I agree with the cutting back on sugar proposal.
I can take you out for Iowa pork - best in the country!
I'm back from supper - sorry I forgot about Moxon's vapors with her P-problem - I guess it would be best if I did not mention the 6 very large ptrees that surround our house!?
By the way, what is Flan? You all have one there on me. And what in the world is this Fruit Bat thingy y'all are talking about?
hmmmmm 7 pm pacific time is 8 pm mountain time and weighting the elevational, altitudinal factors proportionately and factoring in the the absense of humidity in both quadrants but the presence of reptiles in one quadrant, YES I too conclude that the sugar should be cut back.
WINGS! Now you must follow the rules my dear, or else lashings with a wet noodle...
Rule 4, subpart I.
The mentioning of pies or any other baked goods involving the pecan nut shall not be mentioned in the presence of Moxon, who has an unfortunate habit of passing out without notice, due to her predilection for said nuts. Therefore, all such items will be referred to as Pethuds, such as pethud pie, pethud rolls, etc. in order that Moxon shall retain consciousness.
(oh such a goose egg on the back of my head)
And, for the flan and custard recipes, see earlier in this thread, post # 7350172, with a picture of the individual custards.
Fruit bats are our mascots. Because I said so.
The Fruit bat thingie is a flight of fancy. Now I can not speak for the Flan because I do not have fresh eggs to bake one. Darn
Cold Oven Pound Cake
3 c. all purpose flour (I use cake flour so you have to use about 3 tbsp. more)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. vegetable oil (I use canola)
2 sticks butter (at room temperature)
3 c. sugar
6 large eggs (at room temperature)
1 c. milk (for the eggnog cake I simply substitute eggnog here)
2 tsp. lemon extract (leave out for eggnog cake) (can substitute almond ext. here
for almond pound cake)
2 tsp. vanilla extract (use only 1 tsp. for eggnog cake)
sift baking powder, salt and flour together and set aside. Cream butter and veg. oil with electric mixer to the consistency of mayonnaise, gradually adding the sugar and continuing to cream until very fluffy. add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add dry ingredients, alternating with milk (or eggnog), begin and end with flour mixture). Add flavorings. Beat until smooth and kind of fluffy or light creamy. Pour into tube pan (or loaf pans) which has been greased and lightly coated with 10X powdered sugar. Put into COLD OVEN! DO NOT preheat oven. Set temp at 350 degrees and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours (or until knife inserted comes out clean). Cool for about 30 minutes before putting it on a plate. Make sure cake is completely cool before slicing.
This cake is also scrumptious if you take slices and bake them or toast them slightly and top with vanilla ice cream!
Recipe came from my mom's church cookbook - one of her Sunday School class members. Tried and true!
Found the recipes, Moxon - oooooooh! sounds yummy - will have to give it a try
fruit bats are our mascots!!! how exciting!!! I do love fruit bats, wish I could keep one as a pet.....wonder if it would get along with my chickens.....

Fruit Bats vector the DEADLY NEPAH VIRUS...IS NO ONE LISTENING?!!!!
Slap my socks and call me Cassandra---you are all doomed.....
YA! WHAT COUSIN CATSCANNUT SAID!
Don't worry about Catscan. She's a science buff. She gets worried about little things like viruses. Nothing to be concerned about. Just let her have her little soapbox moment and pat her on the head. Everybody knows the deadly nepah virus is a hoax.
Come on Cousin Dahlianut, let's set up a bunker, buy pound cake ingredients and prepare to wait out the plague.....
but, but, but they eat flowers. DAHLIAS = FLOWERS
Oh no Dahlia, the fruit bat is highly allergic to dahlias, freesias, and carnations. No worries.
Hey Catsy, did you see that KnitPicks.com is having a 1 week sale on sock yarns? Hmmmm...
http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Knitting_Yarn_Sale__L300109.html?medid=BE091207&elink=1:SockYarnSale&media=BE091207&email=patentgarden@gmail.com
Moxon--you are setting a very dangerous precedent for your fellow Chicken Heads....
I give you all the facts, and leave it to you whether to follow the Fanatical Fruit Bat Fancier, Moxon...or follow Cousin dahlianut and me into the bunker....
http://scienceblogs.com/aetiology/2006/04/emerging_disease_and_zoonoses_4.php
A one week sale on sock yarn? Hummmmmmm.....
Perhaps, Dear Dahlia we should put the bunker off for a few days....there are hardly any dahlias in bloom right now and I think the human to human transmission rate of Nipah is very low.
Catscan, on behalf of all the bats in my batty family tree.....we are offended and will proceed to sulk :-(
and you know, I bet the batty family tree and the nutty family tree are not so far removed....
Bats are not bad in themselves, batflower--the vampire bat, I have heard, is a charming and intelligent creature.
But the Nipah virus has made importing Fruit Bats and their products inadvisable at this time.
Well this nutty bat is going to go hang up for the night. (I wander if I could sleep better in I did it like a bat?)
Good night y'all
Cousin Dahlia has clearly gotten the message....now as to the link between the Batty and Nutty family trees...I would suspect a mutual connection with the Irish/Italian merchant clan, the Mike O'Rissas.
But grow would be the one to clarify that.
Night, night, wren.

Yes Cousin Grownut will have it all linkaged and leafed. I believe the Bedlam fam is also related.
OK! I'm sulking for a Neck thingy! I had one my daughter made for me on my knitting loom, but I can't find it! And it's sooo cold here! Might get some snow tomorrow, 25* and dropping now. Wont somebody take pity on me?
Poor Doe! I am sure you will find succour soon...perhaps if you specified your preferences and aura?
I don't think I have an aura-----but I like colors like the hand made natural mixed "colorless" yarn someone showed. I'm not to hard to please, I'm really a very humble person!
oooooo humble sulking. I think that gets extra points ^_^
EVERYONE has an aura, Doe Dear. You have to take the test if you don't know what it is. The link is somehwere up in the thread. Very simple test...non-binding if you don't like the results.
Humble sulking--how Uriah Heepish! Extra credit for literary allusional sulking, Doe.
Oooh Catsy....
http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Imagination_Hand_Painted_Sock_Yarn__D5420173.html
Dahlianut dearest, the fruit bats do NOT eat flowers. They merely drink the nectar, sweet and delicious as it is, just like the bees. Do not be alarmed. Now skunks on the other hand, eat flowers.
Aura test link again http://www.russellrowe.com/Aura%20Colors.htm
Oh MY, Moxon....oh my!
