All I want for Christmas....

Women usually listen, it's the men that don't.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

that is not true here jen

South Hamilton, MA

Just stocking stuffers to mail, plus things to GS who has to stay home as he is working fairly new job while he rest of the family comes here. The last big packages, mainly books left for TX today. We used the large flat rate box which came here as bks are heavy. But that is what we send to my brother, his kids & grandkids. He might enjoy the stomp rocket even at 83, but his sons whould have to put it together for him.

North Augusta, ON

Does anybody open one thing Christmas eve?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

we do - save the rest for xmass day

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

not one thing every thing

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We don't.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Always opened one gift as a kid, did the same with my Children. Now we do 'Christmas' on Christmas Eve with the whole family , and my children have a quiet day at home with their own children.
I used to have to hurry to open our presents, feed and dress 5 kids for church(eyes are rolling) , after church go to mine and his family....return home with 5 crying children a ton of things to drag in and parents who just want to cry with the kids. Said I wasn't going to make my children drag my DGkids around like that.....and I don't! ^_^

South Hamilton, MA

No presents are put under the tree when we return from Midnight service. Then the christ child is put in the creche scene. (GS from MN loved that one when he visited a couple yrs ago). Dad was a clergyman's son & always put church first. I can remember being VERY annoyed as a kid having to take a nap before church on Christmas Eve. I was the youngest in the family & felt like I was being picked on.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Same here Iris, if I wanted to do Midnight Mass with the grown ups I had to take a nap!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We do a 7pm candlelight service, then drive around looking at Christmas lights, then go home for a beef tenderloin roast with garlic roasted potato dinner, then open gifts. It is usually midnight or later when we finish. Then Christmas day we relax, have a nice breakfast, maybe go for a hike.

South Hamilton, MA

Christmas hike in upstate NY BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Deb. Great menu.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hubby's family does all the presents Christmas eve. When we got married I didn't want to do that between us so we just did the one gift and opened all the gifts from his family.
Christmas Eve service and then we'll be going to his sister's. We used to have Christmas eve at our house when we lived closer to them. His sis doesn't cook so they do all this processed food, ick. Last year everything was loaded with salt. Nasty.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Christmas Eve is always at our house, Our whole family and another who have been close for 30 years. It works well since the kids have in laws to visit and other commitments on Christmas. That way they can visit both families. There are exchanges between each other that eve, but most of the gifts come out the next day. We've been having fondue on Christmas Eve for so long I think it's become a requirement. LOL And don't change the menu!!! One year a few things were different, I don't remember exactly what, it wasn't a big change though. It took all year for things to be as they were, and every-one's fears put to rest. LOL Like forgetting Hawaiian punch for Thanksgiving Dinner. 10 or 12 different dishes of food to choose from, probably 10 different drinks, and someone asks, "Where's the punch, Did YOU forget it?", Yep, Guilty as charged. Ric

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Christmas Eve service, put presents under the tree. Presents Christmas Day. As kids we had to dress up for that. We also had to take naps before the service Christmas Eve as kids. I always found it hard to wake up for that.

South Hamilton, MA

Believe me!! On trying to get her wake up. They dressed in the morning so Dad could take movies. When we moved here & had a fireplace, stocking appeared; then changed for movies & regular presents after breakfast. We didn't live near family to visit.

All I want for Christmas is SNOW!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not me! If it snows, we're alone.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We got a few inches last night. I'm hoping for clear weather too for safe travels.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Just had another update on my package for my friend in Meriden, CT. It's just been processed in the sort facility in Springfield, MA!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Ha! Been there! With luck, it will land in Meriden tomorrow! I could get it there a lot quicker-LOL!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And this is priority!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Yup! That's my usual experience. Once I overnighted some tropical fish from Fla. Well they got to my PO ok, but before I could get there to pick them up, someone sent them traveling all over the state! Finally caught up with them that evening at Bradley, waiting to be loaded back onto a plane--to go who knows where! One of the fish died, but I still have the rest. I was told people were fired and local PO procedures were changed b/c of that incident!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Victor, It would have been faster picking it up yourself.

Poor fish.

We'd like snow too.

Hubby is surprising me tonight with my first Christmas gift, we're going somewhere???? but not to dinner. Oh and he's a real big help when I asked what I should wear he replied "anything you want" That helps...will we be outside or inside? Inside, but may do some walking.
Ok don't wear spiked heels but basically anything goes??? You just can't say that to a woman.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I've said 'anything goes' to a woman many times.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Sounds like it might be fun Jen!

How MANY times, Victor? Hee-hee

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not enough.

Let us know tomorrow where you went, Jen

Thomaston, CT

No gift opening till after breakfast---this year at son's house---then we watch the kids rip everything apart! Do not like the Christmas dinner menu at the Mayflower Inn this year----they only give 4 choices & this year it's roast beef, veal chop, flounder, or wild boar---guess it's another vegetarian meal!

All I want for Christmas...

A job, I guess. Well, I need a job. What I want is something entirely different. I want to enroll full time in the botanical illustration classes, then get a job doing that.

No, wait. I want... I don't know what I want. I got my roof. I haven't asked for anything this Christmas. Well, of course I want us all to get along, Congress and House and the Dems and Republicans... I want World Peas. Yeah...

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

No wait! That's supposed to be "whirrled peas", isn't it?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

All I want for Christmas is a really good mixer, a multi tool, and another Christmas! Ric

(Zone 5b)

oh boy I read this whole thread....sounds like you guys have great Christmas traditions going! Now that I've read them I'm starting to get excited for the fun of Christmas and forget the work.
We open everything on xmas day. Typically my husband and I wrap after the kids go to bed on xmas eve, but I'm thinking to do some ahead of time this year. My kids are young and they don't sleep late, if at all. Was it last year or the year before they slept for 45 minutes? 12:45 AM-1:30AM... ugh! They had woken up and found their full stockings.
We made them stay in bed till 5:30 lol
We usually have people over xmas eve too. I like to make stuff I don't have time for otherwise, like olive tapenade.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

If I had kids it would have to be .. wrap ahead.. I would be too nervous waiting till the last min.. if you can pull it off it's a great tradition though

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah Lynnie, you have to sneak in wrapping when you can, def not fun waiting for last minute.

We went to the theater and saw A Christmas Carol. So he was right in wear whatever, there were people dressed up and some wearing jeans.
Saw a young couple(1st date???) she had spikey open toe sandals, no stockings, with a short skirt(dress) couldn't see the whole thing because of her knee length coat but it had fringes like a 20's flapper...ummmmm, HELLO? It's 10 degrees outside and not New Years eve.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Don't get me started on the fashions they have for women. Our neighbor's daughter (16) wears tshirts and flip flops while waiting for the bus. I don't know if that's fashion or not, but it's cold! Even DS complains if I make him wear his winter coat.

North Augusta, ON

I was so happy once I got old enough to go for comfort over fashion...
