finally got my delivery problems with MLC (moe, larry, curly) Freight Services fixed and the granite lanterns will be here tomorrow. seems the original freight company subbed the last leg off with some shoddy paper work which included wrong address and freight collect - i will be checking these out closely!
All I want for Christmas....
Yeah - don't let them run off!
funny - i think they will blame it on larry
You mean Curly.
shimp?
Shemp.
ouch corrected twice
Photos of the lanterns, Bill, if you can---I'd love to see them.
i will try robin - i think though it will have to wait till spring for one of them as it needs to be installed in the ground
Me too. Patti
ok the truck arrived and the very pleasant driver (NOT) would not allow me to check the lanterns - forced him to call the dispatcher and they agreed after much back and forth to give me only 10 minutes to get into the pallet and look - the pallet was bomb proof and foruntately not bill proof (did i just type in the third person?) - from i could see everything was ok and after another call to the folks i ordered from to let them know the hassle i went through (they told me to check everything before signing for the order) i broke down the pallets and everything was fine.
i love these lanterns here are a few pictures of one of them - the other will have to wait till it is installed in the spring.
this is a maru yukimi lantern
the reason i purchased from from the place i finally chose was the detailed granite carving they offered as well as the pricing (20% sale) and they have predrilled holes if you want to run electric.
there are three of these windows and then the back is solid with a half moon carved in it

Very nice, Bill! How heavy is it?
i think the total weight is 230 lbs. it is in 5 pieces so it was not too bad - the large round piece on top of the lantern was the heaviest by far. the other one is the same weight with the taller straight piece the heaviest - still think one of these would look great by your pond.
Wow, that is gorgeous. The Japanese really knew what they were doing. I can't wait to see what else you got.
wow! very nice! 5 pieces?! that's just going to look beautiful.
(grrr those drivers drop & run all the time, never give you a minute!)
thx - by five pieces i mean the base, the round piece sits on it, the window section, the heavy larger round slab, and finally the topper.
what are the dimensions of it? I can't wait till you get it situated and post a pic!
ya, get somebody to stand beside it and take a pic. so we can get some idea of how big it is.
Looks about three feet tall, or a bit over, judging by the boxes next to it.
it is 24" tall and the top roff is pretty wide
the other lantren is 30" tall and not nearly as wide
Beautiful!!!!! Sorry for your shipping hassles.
That will look beautiful by your potted JMs!
thx jan and robin - the hassles were worth it and not the fault of the place i purchased them from - they have promised me they will not use them again
and robin you are right, the one not seen will be "planted" near the potted jm's - just to the side of the steps to the patio i built this past spring - this one will probably go at the top of our front steps as you have to walk up the stairs to get to the front door it will give a nice view of the detailed carving under and above the lantern. and there are several jm's very close - well i guess that could be said almost anywhere here now:)
Hee Hee!
very pretty Bill!.. with all that rock moving 5 pieces should be a piece of cake!!
I see many more Japanese maples in your future and maybe a Japanese "dry garden" . Can't wait to see them in situ. Patti
thx patti - a dry garden? will have to consider that it's what neighbors thought when i was storing all the stone out front for the wall.
Don't know if anyone has posted this already but just in case you want to track Santa http://www.noradsanta.org/en/index.html
Wha, I was thinking of the dry sand and pebble gardens set with special stones and just raked into patterns. Patti

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. All of Jims kids will come, with their kids. They get no gifts, nor do we. Tomorrow I will work on the stuffed shells get them all done and baked. They come over and eat them plus they all take a tray home. They almost would kill for these darn things.
Every year I say " I am not making these again". Here I am years later still making them. Speaking of gifts. Tomorrow Christmas Eve. Jim and myself will be married 15 years. As of tomorrow - I know what I was doing 15 years ago. Getting married and making stinking stuffed shells !
Would you post the recipe for these things worth killing for?
Well, congrats on your anniversary, Sherrie!
Happy Anniversary!
Best wishes, Sherrie! I also have a Dec. anniversary---weren't we crazy?
Happy Aniversary Sherrie & Jim!!! May you have many, many more!!
congrats sherrie - easy to remember that is for sure.
