GYPSIES DECORATE FOR CHRISTMAS

(Zone 5b)

whew all that mopping wore me out, I think I'm having a relapse...suddenly tired again.
Venice you sound very full of energy, glad you're better....

sheets..I like mine crisp cotton, I would love to starch 'em if I had that kind of time to waste lol Moon check TJ Maxx & ebay.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

The EB will get up to 6 ft tall as a houseplant, but are slow growing. the pot is your choice, but I would only use one plant per pot. Usually only need repotting every 2-3 years. If they are small, a 6 inch standard pot should be fine. I generally use a pot that is 2 times the size of the rootball for determining pot depth and size.

It may be temperature and light differences for the H&C. You may want to use the same soiless mix for them. When ya go to Lowe's, look for a good cactus/succulent mix for all of them.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That is why I like the Egypt. cotton sheets Lynnie, they come off the clothesline with such a good hand to them. Then when stretched over WB mattress they are taut and so smooth....think i need a nap....grin

I do need to go find some brekkers....tummy is growling....catch up in a bit...Rest and get well everybody....naps all around....grin

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Man I'm planting a walnut tree, seems they are good for what ever ales ya. Said they are good for hair loss. Sneak some in hubbys coffee girls lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Just becareful if you choose black walnuts. They produce juglone which can keep anything from growing in the vicinity of the trees roots....even grass.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Yes just wondering if they will hurt horses. Where I would have to plant it would be next to horse fence.

(Zone 5b)

it's too late for my hubby flowers better save yours! hahahaha

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Man that stinks, I really wanted one. Maybe can plant on other side of property and hope they don't get loose.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Well guess that one is out, seems even the pollen from them will make horses sick.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

ok back out thanks moon. Lynnie honey don't over work that finger pushing button on robot YOU DOG!!!!!! LOL

(Zone 5b)

LOL Flowers
where did you get the black walnut tree?

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I haven't got one Lynnie, just thinking about it. They are all over this state so maybe can collect walnuts from neighbors. They get huge. Venice, I have had EE in big plastic pot for around 15 years now and just add a little fresh potting mix each year and a little miricle grow once or twice in summer and it just keeps thriving. They do like warm but keep mine at about 65 degrees in winter inside and it does great.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

But I'm the one that told ya to put garlic in your plants for knats what do I know lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Flowers, Venice was talking about her elephant bush, not the elephant ear

(Zone 5b)

well at least you didn't spend money on it
a guy my husband works with offered us a japanese maple, it's right smack in the middle of where wants to put something....but the people he bought his house from planted it in someone's memory, and they drive by to look at it all the time & keep telling him they hope he never cuts it down. i don't want them driving over here to visit it!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

He needs to dig it up, burlap the rootball and send it home with them....better to be their memoriam than his headache.

(Zone 5b)

wherever they went, they couldn't take it, nowhere to plant it. I'm sure it wasn't in the purchase & sales agreement ;) that's the downside of memorial gardens, huh?

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh scuse em wa moon need to pay attention lol Lynnie planted a JM here and that mean early frost got it so not gona try that one again, they are pretty tho. Pussy willow has made it through one winter and prob two foot tall so keeping my fingers crossed it will make it again this winter. I hate waiting on a tree to grow. I'm gonna be old and grey before I see big beautiful trees here. OH I am old and grey lol

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Moon check your e-mail, sent ya some TG pictures of me and family. Don't know how to post from e-mail that dil sent so anyone else that wants to see send me e-mail address on a d-mail.

(Zone 5b)

that's the boat I'm in Flowers, no big trees :( I planted a lot of trees buth they're babies. I transplanted some big trees but they take years to recover from transplant shock...plus 2 of those got blown clear out of the ground because of a microburst (mini tornado) and husband hadn't staked them (despite my urging), then last year he used a sod cutter around another 2....(he was practicing with it). I told him if he went near my maples I'd cut his sod but good.... MEN!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I sure will Flowers...looking forward to them.

Famous last words...round-up won't hurt it...it's a tree.....my first words....Great...another blooming idiot....move away from the sprayer with your hands in the air....grin

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Funny Ladies-----and what ever you do don't turn them loose with the weed eater near your flower bedsssss.

(Zone 5b)

back away slowly mister, or you're gonna get it! lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

No trees was not the problem here...too many trees planted too close to the house, diseased or just way too messy. We took out 26....still have 5 large (2 short needle pines, pin oak, live oak and a pecan) and have 13 crapemyrtles, 3 Jap. Magnolias, 5 jap maples a redbud and a vitex, 2 figs and 4 citrus....neighbors can't call us anti-ecoists anymore...grin

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I have a garden hose and am NOT afraid to use it....lol

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

sounds like nice forest moon lol. We cleared here all trees too and have been replacing as I can the mostly dwarf versions so they won't fall on house grin. Have one plum, cherry, dogwood, black topelo, sugar maple, cypress, strawberry, colorada blue spruce that I think has croaked, pussy willow, crepe myrtle and smoke tree. Doesn't look like much yet as they are still small but a lot of work for sure. Not to mention all the shrubs, I'm getting there.

Good morning everyone! Aloha aku!

The Portulacaria afra bush should be in sharply drained soil. If it was in full sun outdoors, and is now indoors in less light, that could explain the leaf drop. In less light it should be watered less.
Treat it like it is a Cactus.

Hi Everyone,Hope you're all having a good Monday:}
Kassy, thank you for your Cardinal message and photo, the male bird,as usual :},is indeed a beautiful creature .I will find one of the female too.We don't have tham at all over here.
Venice, thanks for saying I provide good info, that's encouraging :}i must ask if the copy of Huckleberry Finn was for you. It's always been a favourite book of mine, since first reading it as a child.I suppose it was because it portrayed a life so very ,very different from anything I could ever imagine.I'd alresdy read of him in Tom Sawyer,of course, that being another of my chilhood favourites.I never owned copies of either, they were borrowed from the library here, but I often think I'd like to have them,as I have a lot of my own childhood books still. They've even survived my 2 boys, too.
Dave, thankyou for answering my question about Scaevolas. The ones in your photos are much larger than mine and seem to be more like shrubs.the berries on the Scaevola Chamissoniana look a little like Myrtle berries to me,i say that cos my Myrtle bush has its berries on at the moment and they do look similar.
Your photos certainly show how beautiful it is ,where you live,are you very close to the sea?I love the photo where the woodland comes right down to the water.The facts about the rarest tree,of which i'd never heard,are also very interesting.I guess there'll be many plants there that I've never heard of:} I just keep looking at those photos :}
Flowers,Karen, which do you prefer,I'm glad I explained ok for you about countries of UK.However just to confuse you ,the same collection of countries are also sometimes refered to as Great Britain,Britain or The British Isles, but please, don't ask me why :}UK is part of the continent of Europe. Our money here is Pounds and Pence,we had Shillings too,but not since 1971.The rest of Europe now uses a common coinage system called The Euro, but our government has so far resisted.
Baby showers sound a very good idea,when you consider the cost of everything needed for a new baby,especially if it's the first one.:}
Lynnie,I know of Boston as being one of the early settled places in US.I't certainly be interesting to know where your family started from over here.Might have been from near me :}
Well it's been cold again today and a heavy frost is forcast for tonight, but no snow predicted so far.
I'm cooking my boys dinner so have to go for a while, but may be back later.
Get better soon all who are unwell,
Best wishes
Joy

Jean, reguarding the black walnut trees...... is that only in some locations?
We have 2 black walnut trees here and have no problem with anything growing under them. Grass grows under them without a problem, and weeds too. And my nephew also had 2 black walnut trees and he has no problems with them either. Our chipmunks just love the black walnut seeds.......Just try to keep them away from them!

Your welcome Joy. They are a pretty bird ^_^

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi Dave. How is the addition coming along? Been a while since we had an update. I know the rain slowed things down for a while.

Hi Joy. Funny bit...I had a penpal from England when I was an early teen. We wrote for two or three years, and then discovered we were actually distant cousins...My great-great grandfather and her great-great grandmother were brother and sister....that was my first indication of what a tiny big world we inhabit...grin

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hey Kassy. Here is what I have learned about them...

Hi Jean! There will be something to show soon. Haven't done much during the rains; been mostly gardening around here.

Thanks Jean, I'll let my BF read that.
We know the trees are worth a lot, so they stay.
Good thing the Box Elder trees in the area don't mind then........and in a way, I wish the grass didn't like them.. That would mean less mowing....LOL I guess we just keep the yard too well picked up in that area. Thanks to a willow tree in that area!

Moon ,thats amazing ,when you think of all the people you could both have chosen to correspond with:}
I'm still sort of here, though cooking at moment,6.45 here.Luckily my computer's a very small Netbook type,so I can use it anywhere there's a wireless connection.

Hey Kassy Joy and Dave. Its rainy and cold here and I still haven't pulled out the vacume ugggg. Need to get busy for sure, yall carry on and leave me some good stuff to read for when I return. Karen

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

And I have to head back home and get a nap in sometime.

I train at the new house tonight.

Talk to everyone later

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

It gave a bit of personal meaning to the Walt Disney "It's a small world, afterall." grin Have a nice evening Joy.

Figured the rain may have slowed things down for a bit, Dave. Hope you get some good clear weather for a while.

I have come to the conclusion that my area has become a floating zone, dancing between the cooler zone 8 and the more tropical zone 9. Irises are blooming, ginger is reblooming, citrus ready to pick, butterflies slipping away and mosquitos running rampant....roses getting their second wind and japanese magnolias losing their leaves.....35 degrees in the morning, nearly 75 degrees at sunset.....global warming? Natural evolution? Same as it never was....grin

Hi every one. Did all the damage I can do for a while. Moon you just keep that rain! If any one wants any Poo,poo for plants. Would love to share as we have plenty. All ready have 2 compost piles going. The garden for spring will be fertilized pretty good. Thats the one thing the Poo's are very good at. It'sgoing in one end and out the other. Grin

Jesup, GA

Flowers, I'll trade ya some poo for walnuts. Hubby needs them bad! Theres more hair on his body than on his head. Told him I'd shave his chest and glue it on his head. Probably look like he has a bad case of the Mange when I finish. Grin
