So when's dinner, Moon? Do I have time to drive down, if I forget the speed limits?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi! I haven't read all the morning posts yet. Here is a photo of Kitty. She had space there because I had to move plants to take another photo.

Boy was a surprised when I saw this blossom this morning. I had to take a second look because I couldn't believe it! It is a little deeper color, like tangerine. So do any of you have a name for it?

Hello All...quick trip in....Venice EL Captolio is that Hibbies name

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/42962/

Hi Joy. No, the lobster are from Australia...a visit to our daughter's home in Brisbane. So, will you be enjoying your new furniture tonight?

Sorry Smiley....those are long gone, but we do have shrimp for tonight...grin. Come on down, we'll wait for ya....grin

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Carol...did you look up Hibiscus....that's what your flowering plant loos like to me, granted I just started with Hib's so I am by no means the best for those...LOL

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

are you feeling better today Moon?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I couldn't believe it when you told us that your shrimp was $3.95 a pound for 10-12 shrimp, is that right? That sure is amazing! Why don't you take a photo of those shrimp for us who have never even seen shrimp that large.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

yuck, shrimp, thier just little people in ba outfits, don't hurt them......LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, that is it! I think it is soooo pretty. The photo doesn't do it justice. I didn't think that hibiscus had 2 layers of petals like that.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I will try to remember to get a pic of the shrimp next time we have the large ones, Carol. Tonight we are doing a pasta so are using the smaller shrimp. Did you get the name for your Hibiscus from the post above?

Feeling some better, Trina, thanks...ears still hurt....but will survive....grin just google amaryllis seed preparation should give all the info you need.

Dronfield, United Kingdom

Moon,my furniture is wonderfull,I can finally put my clothes in a wardrobe and drawers again,instead on the sort of shop rails they've been hung on.The stuff was ordered on 1st Sept.Manufacturer was in Germany and they were late shipping order to shop where we bought it.But it's all done now .....I was summoned for the inspection a little while ago:}
I hope the Australian Lobsters were good.
Joy

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, yes I got the hibiscus name from your post above. Also, got the full name from the link you gave me. Actually, I think the color of mine is prettier than the ones in the link. I wish I had a camera to take a close up photo.

Shrimp in pasta is my very favorite. I don't like it in a sauce but just with fresh veggies, parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Then I use Barilli Plus thin spaghetti that I always have on hand. I would use liguini if I had it.

Glad you are feeling a little better today.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

that's it...gonna have to make you some home made pasta Venice! And thanks I got the amaryllis seeds with a combo of the links and what I looked up. I got some more seeds potted up and some soaking... I got these one seeds that are reall old, and someone (I wrote it down) wanted to trade, but since I'm not sure they will even germinate, I potted them up, if they grow I'll send her some plants.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good deal Trina....google is my friend...grin

Venice, they range from a pale peachy color to a rich vibrant pink-orange. So glad you have one and it is blooming for you. That is pretty much how we do our shrimp pasta....just add to that lots of garlic and a bit of chipotle....grin

Joy, good on. I can empathize, we lived in a house with only 1 closet for 3 bedrooms....So happy when i got my armoir, happier still when we moved and got a proper closet....grin Sounds like the assembly was pretty un-eventful, grin. If it had been my DH, at least 1 piece would have been missing and the instructions would have only been in German.....grin

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, so what is the difference between these two hibiscus?

Variegated Tropical Hibiscus Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'El Capitolio'

Tropical Hibiscus 'El Capitolio sport' Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I have the sport, of that one but it's not nearly as big as yours Venice, Mine probably won't flower for awhile, but then again it was a rooted cutting so I might get lucky and have flowers this year!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, what kind of pasta do you use?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

The first has variegated leaves, the second, the sport, does not have variegated leaves and does not produce plants with variegated leaves

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

We use Harvest Grain whole grain pasta for everyday family meals, and Barilla for company as not everyone cares for the brown color and slightly different texture of the whole grain.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I like home made pasta, especially when you make spinach noodles, or carrot, or tomato, or lemon pepper, then you don't need much for a sauce...LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, I am just thrilled with my hibiscus! It didn't have any buds when I got it. Now I can see new little branches starting and tiny little buds. However, if this one bloom is all it does, it is certainly worth my 50 cents!!!!

Moon or anyone else, I think I still have aphids on it. 1) I have dark specks and 2) white powder stuff on top of some leaves. Is the white stuff eggs or poo? Are the dark specks the dead ones or not? Please help with a diagnosis. I know Moon said to wait a few days before I do anything. And that I will do. Just want to know what this stuff on it is. Also, 3) do aphids fly?

Joy, so glad your have a place for your clothes in a wardrobe and drawers. That must be such a relief finally.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

OK time to start on the plumeria seeds I purchased...see how those go...I wonder when butthead will figure out tat these won't stay babies for long!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Aphids do not fly. The white stuff may be residue from white flies, tiny little white bugs that love hibiscus, if you are seeing small black flying bugs, they may be gnats. You can use a damp paper towel and give it a wipe down today and then see what happens from there. That will tell you if you need to spray again or not.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

ok I got all 16 of the paper whites I purchased potted up! No I need to look up wood rose Merremia tuberosa? I think it is

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, this is for your wood rose.

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53475/

For your plumeria seeds.

http://www.plumeria101.com/seeds101.html

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

thanks Carol! I really do appreciate it! Time to flip laundry and the race is about to start so I'll be in and out

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, I am pretty sure that white stuff isn't white flies. The white stuff is more of an off white and is very powdery. My head may have just run into a gnat. There weren't any bugs actually flying around the plant. Gee, sure wish I had a better camera. I don't like bugs, even little ones. They make me feel like my body itches.

I looked up both of those hibiscus names with Sport and without it. To me, I don't see a difference in the leaves. They both look solid green.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

remember on DG with photos you are at the mercy whatever someone else believes thier plant to be.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Are the double hibiscus flowers more unique? There aren't many of them when you look up different varieties of hibiscus.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

No, the stuff is poo residue from bugs more than likely. I was saying if the little flying things are white....white flies, if black, gnats. If you want to, put the hibbie in the shower and wash her off, or take her outside and give a good hose down.

I do not know why the first would say variegated and show solid green leaves....it is a puzzlement....grin

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Yes, the double blooms are more unique as there are not as many of them
