Can we talk?
So are you hosting or visiting on Thanksgiving? We're hosting, as usual.
Coffee Break #23 - Counting down to Turkey!
I'm staying home, nice & warm, then visiting the in-laws that weekend, (YucK!), I don't like to drive all around the place on holidays, too many alcoholics on the road and the speeds are too fast here... (lol)
Speaking of Thanksgivings dinner... (lol)

we are visiting SIL as usual.
I did see that, WC. Reminds me of the old joke: Two cannibals are sitting around and one says, 'I hate my MIL'. The other replies, 'Then just eat the potatoes.'
Hee hee!!
LOL!
As usual I am alone, my children are spending TG with their in-laws. I never heard about Thanksgiving till I arrived in this country. My mother-in-law always had it after she could not do it my more it was my turn. What stands out mostly about that day was the guys went to a football game, came back and ate them selves silly and went to sleep while we cleaned up after we have been cooking since early morning.
To me thanksgiving is every day of the year to know there is food on my table and have everything I need.
Maria
Hi Maria,
Sorry to hear you will be alone for Thanksgiving. Wish we were closer. Funny about the lazy men.
Nice sentiments about every day.
We just found out that my DS and BIL are coming down from Atlanta for Thanksgiving-my DM and DB had planned on going out for dinner, darn it.
Thanks Victor but I really don't mind being alone even when I am with a room full of people I feel alone since my husband died 5 years ago.
Once in a while when I am food shopping some woman will say to me "Oh, I hate groceries shopping", My response always is "just imagine no food available for month after month, you will realize how lucky you actually are to be able to buy what ever you need to feed your family".
I have lived here for 63 years but I will never forget what it is like to have nothing to eat and still remember my mothers tears.
Maria - your perspective is food for thought this Thanksgiving. Like Victor, I wish you were living in my area. I'd dearly love to share the day with you!
I am very excited about Thanksgiving this year because my son is flying down for the week. My niece and her Dad (my ex-BIL) will join us for Thanksgiving dinner. Football and casual relaxation are always part of our Thanksgiving, and I set the table every year with the beautiful Takahashi china my son gave me throughout much of his life, beginning with a plate he bought me with his own money when he was ten. For years he gave me single pieces on special occasions. Last year was the first year he and I were not together to share the special dinner using it.
I think it will just be us this year.
Just the two of us; we eat duck--smaller bird, otherwise we would be eating turkey until Christmas. It will be the evening meal because the Packers will be on TV. Long suffering husband!
Maria, you remind us to be truly grateful. Thanks.
We will be skipping the annual family gathering in VT this year. Between DS' broken leg and just needing a break from the routine.
Jada and, thanks for your good thoughts
Donny, yours too, you set a lovely table with great memories.
Hope all of you will have a great time enjoying while planning for that special holiday
Randy and I are hosting.. but only 2 or 4 people will be coming.. but we should be visiting.. due to my bad illness year we are not traveling this year.. going to stay home and do some deep frying!!!
Maria, thank you for that reminder. Gratitude is important any day of the year.
I'll be hosting Thanksgiving dinner for the first time in my life this year. It will be me, DH, DS and the in-laws. EEEEEK!!!
Oh yeah - Great picture Victor!
we always have dinner with my in-laws whom we love - "I" try to have it here every other year because "I" am pretty specific and simple on how i like the dinner - my mil likes to cook differently - stuffing, gravy, and left overs are big deals to me - the last three years we have gone to their home - only 15 minutes away not a big deal - still it forces us to cook another entire dinner the following Sunday to have the T-day meal i want - along with the calories - this year it is here i think - mil agreed although i learned she is putting pressure on my wife to have it there.
no way jose
Have fun, Harp!
Sure sign of the season - the tree is in Rocky Center! Norway spruce from Easton, CT. Lighting is on 12/2 - my older guy's birthday!
Congrats to the participants and winners of the DG photo contest! Beautious pics in diverse categorys with many of you in the winner's circle.
Oh gosh the tree is there already?
Yes it is. Hope to get in and see it this year. Been a few years.
Congrats to all the NE forum contest winners!
...and you are one of them Victor
We are hosting--not sure how many yet ---my brother is starting radiation treatments tomorrow, but he still wants to drive the 61/2 hours to his daughter's house in upstate NY--that's with his Parkinson's also---please pray that he stays with us--I am just too sick over this---also, son Garret is having surgery the day before Thanksgiving---can't even contemplate that, either. My cousin is baking the turkey--thanks for that! Louise, I love that China---friends of ours have it also, & it's lovely! So happy your son is coming down! Maria, our church opens its doors to anyone in the community to come & share the day---lots of folks come. Bill---I, too, like leftovers---but only for one day! Thanks for the heads up on the contest winners---will go & check them out---congratulations to all of you who are sooo talented.
Thanks!
Congrats on your wins Victor. Love the fall gardenshot!
congrats all on wins & runner ups!!!... we have quite a few... WHERE IS AL??? I miss him!!!!!
I miss him too onewish :( He was a great participant on the Dahlia Forum.
Thanks, Weeze. Al is doing okay.
Dave - sorry to hear about your son's broken leg. When did it happen? Is he okay?
I am finally 'giving in' and getting a Wii for the kids for Christmas. Going through the Cabelas catalog recently I noticed a Wii game where you can shoot deer! I doubt I could ever do it in real life but virtually, I can be a savage hunter!
Not sure if everyone saw this, but there is another vote now to decide which photos make it into the calendar and in which months. 24 category winners, but only 17 make it in.
Interesting article on H1N1.

Victor,
Great wii usage. My son broke his leg about 5 weeks ago. He is on his third cast, which is a walking cast. It occured while he was using his razor scooter. Must have just landed funny. He's fine.
Glad to hear, Dave.
Thank God for protection for my friend who is 7 months pregnant and was in a head on collision with some idiot drunk driver at 2:30 in the afternoon. Mother and baby are fine.
