hi
good morning
thats why i like these swaps because sometimes you lose a favorite or two and you can get them back eventually when you have shared with others
ella..i hope you get to a doctor..that is not good to have a swollen face
i hope the flooding in your area has subsided.
we have had so much rain and we are getting a reprive this am it looks like...was stormy yesterday half the day and half was nice. i am so tired of the rain and to think we will have seven more months of it is frustrating when you want to go out and do yard stuff and it is too muddy.

CLOSED: '09 Fall Frenzy Swap Page #6
If any of you are looking for me for seeds, send me dmail. I'll be intermittently on the site over the new few weeks. My mother in law shattered bones in her leg, and is home in a splint only (gets surgery next week). She lives alone in a 2 story condo. So I've been doing my best to help out with staying overnight, cooking, cleaning, etc. Plus working from home (actually from her house :) ) as I can't quit my day job.
You know the story- Senior breaks a bone, goes to hospital, gets pneumonia, and then worse... we have her at home rather than in a rehab hospital to reduce any exposure to pneumonia.
So I'm here, just not actively posting to the list, except when it's my night off :)
So sorry herbspirit, hope all goes well for her and take care.
Echoign the same thought s too Herb.. Ya just do what ya have to. The piggie s ain't gonan run away. They ay hid e ina bundle of straw and snore for a few hour s or so, but the all be aroudn sooner or later. : )
I back but am goign to take some pain pills and lay down for awhile. Jaw stil bleedign from extractions and have a headache from way down yonder.
Will see ya all either later tonight or in the morning. be happy piggies.
: )
Hope you feel better too, Star. I know that hurts. Get some rest and feel better soon.
Quick question .... so nobody needs any purple morning glories ?? The pretties of pretty purples???
I've got tons of GrandPa Ott and Star of Yelta... but if you ask me GPO is prettier.
Thanks guys.
Star hope you feel better!
I'll tell you those GPO's really are beautiful, got some seeds from Terese last year and really enjoyed them. Will grow them again for sure! I still have some seeds to offer, too if she runs out!
Sending good thoughts to Herb and his mother in law and to Star. Glad you got in to the Dentists.
Star,
I would love to try your Balloon Flower Sentimental Blue.
I'm thinking it might make a nice edger with the white alyssum I like to use. If it is nice enough I could end up making making the whole edge with it. Yes, I'm still trying to find something perennial for an edger. What do you think , would it make a good edger plant.
This is a 2005 picture of the garden I edge in white alyssum, I've done it every year except one and boy did I miss it. But I'm ready for something new...... help!
TooFew thank you for posting that photo again! I remember it from last year... totally inspirational! Gorgeous! Amazing!
TCS you're tempting me with morning glories... and purple's my color... but I'm right at 100 and trying to be good ;-)
That is just tooo gorgeous toofew! If you want to try something different, maybe some of that baby Sunrose ground cover/succulent that has the bright fuschia flowers... or that pretty purple flowered verbena would look nice. That allysum is so nice though, just the right height and everything.. Maybe another color of alyssum.. What else do you have in there?
hey, too few. How's about dusty miller for an edging or gazania? I would think stella d-oro daylilies would work, too, though I think the roots are real hogs
Kelly -- I could toss in a few bags and you wouldnt even notice. *wink*
Really... i have A LOT.
It looks to me like there are a ton of seeds that aren't getting chosen because some of are afraid of going over the 100 limit. Star, would you consider upping our limit a bit later on, after everyone gets a chance to oink? It would be a shame to let the seeds go unclaimed! Of course, there is the other part of the game, and also seeds for charity. It was just a thought! It's like giving us a dollar to spend at the Penny Candy Shop, so much to choose from, it's hard to choose.
my problem is I'm a Try anything once type of person, I just wat to try it all at once...LOL
I have that same itch and it's hard not to scratch.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has that problem :)
ants
but I like to grow things in the house that people wouldn't normally call a house plant too
thanks MechelleT and colchie for the good edging ideas!
tcs, I think I will OINK for the Granpa ott MG's.
I had an unknown purple I grew several years ago, and have had volunteers each year since then, but something different in the same color scheme sounds good.
Oh, and Happy Friday the 13th! 13 is a Lucky day for me. smile
edited for spelling errors - too early - or is it because its Friday the 13th???????

Good Morning BSF (Best Seed Friends) Happy Friday the 13th. RatherBDigging, you got em, Raspberry pink zinnia elegans! Have a great day everyone. Plant some seeds. I'm planting PEAS. These were my NY peas grown in a 5 gallon bucket inside a tall, very tall, tomato cage on my deck. Anyone want to try a few seeds? I could share enough for a bucket full.
Neat Mittsy! eve r thought of using a tomato cage for peas. In Germany they didn't have tomao cage s we went out into the woods and gathere d fallen sticks an dbranches and used them to hold the peas up. How many plants ya got in that pot?
Lynn. As for your question how ell I remmebr that we had a penny, two-cent and nickel candy store growing up. Was hard in such a big store in tryign to decide what to get f rom yoru hard earne d dime or quarter.
We stil have some piggies that have not been able to pic yet and wilbe along shortly.
I have to set limtis of some sorts, few over I don't mind. besides the piggies that still haven't had a chance yoru right ther e is part too. Figure if all the piggie s involved send in 100 packets for the swap that means I need 5-6,000 seed packets to fill those wishes and some of the seed folks haven't oinked folsk wil be sending in for their oen to one match.
I suggets folks put thigns they see too on their wish list. If you wishlist is longer than 10 types that fine. Don't care how many ya put there, just want folsk to try and at least get 10 in so I have somethign to work with for the one to one swap.
Folks have to be willing to pay the e xtra postages too if the limit is raised.
This is what I cna do. After I sur e everybody is in the game and has at least their hundred seed then will dmail some of the older regula r piggies and present the idea to them. I may be hosting this again, but they are the ones that keep our cottage garden thread going all year along for all thes e years and are the one s who so much gathering and colelcting of seed and I onyl think it fair to get their opinions on the subject and if they think a good ide a then will present it to folks for a vote cuz it everybody see d that is involved .
Here's a direct link to my list:

I think Starlkight has a good suggestion... if you're already around 100 oinked packs, put stuff on your wish list for the second part of the swap... with things like my tomato mix, you can be sure there will be enough to go around!
Good Morning! I know what you all mean about trying everything once!
I can't even count the number of new things I tried this year. It was great! Every stage of the plant was a new experience, for every new seed. Seeing how they sprouted, trying to get them acclimated (ok, a few bit the dust at this point), enjoying the first flowers, and now figuring out how the seeds are formed and hidden or flung far away!
A few of my favorites that were new to me were the Malva Mystic Merlin (from TooFew last year), the double Portulacas (from Starlight last year), the Nicotiana Lime (from JonnaSudenius) the Pinto Salmon Geranium (from Pamsue last year), the coral nymph salvia (from Gemini Sage last year), the Forest Fire Salvia (from Danita last year) Leilani Blue Ageratum (from Toofew last year) and poppies from just about everyone! Plus, there are a bunch of perennials that are doing well and promising blooms next year!
So, thanks to all who brightened my year! It would have been a rough one without my gardening!
Can somebody copy my lists for BlueSpiral and send it too her. I been tryign to copy it to paste it for her, but evry time I try when I right click to copy it wont hold in place and send me back to Dg hoem page. grrr.
I'll take care of it!
Thanks KL.
Now I tellign ya all ya need to oink for soem squarehead seeds, or put themon yoru wish list.
This not the best pic, but when my puter crashe d I lost the good pic of it.
This is a fantastic perennial. I have it growing in between my Daylilies. it doesn't over power them it stays nice and neat, has good form to it and the flowers last logn long time.
In the years I been growign it, it has not become invasive or anythign. Mainyl becuas e as soon as it goe s to see d the bird s come in liek crazy and run off with them. This the first year I been able to gather the seed from it. I know the bird s wer e nto happy with me out there gatherign them too, but I want to grow some mroe plants. The buterflie s lov ethem first them the birds.
They call it a sqaure head, becaus e when the petals all unfurl they don't have the typical roudn shape . They do have a mroe square shape which is a real atentin getter.
Ya cna look at pic here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4927996
the petals were just startign to open.
Had to find otu what it was.
So any porkers for this unusual , but hardy plant. LOL
Good morning everyone. I had a lucky break the other day. One of my neighbors was out walking her dog and she stopped to talk about gardens. Said I was welcome to come "play" in her yard, which is overgrown. Right about then I thought about all the new seeds that will be coming in December, and took her up on it. Finally, a new testing ground! Only thing is, the deer have great access to her yard, so if anyone can tell me what the deer will leave alone, I might plant some at Billie's yard.
Star.... I think tcs had copied the whole list and edited it and D-mailed it to BlueSpiral
at least that's what I thought I read, lol!
Oh (I found the post and read a little further), I see where you guys still requested us to send a link. I'll send her mine now ;)

Hi Colchie,
I've been doing some research here and there on deer proof plants for our other property. I don't remember all of the plants at this point, but apparently they will leave Castor Bean plants alone. As I come across others, I'll try to post and would love to hear from other folks about it, also.
Tonya
All my deer eat my "deer proof" plants. They do leave salvia's alone. And lavender, come to think of it. Foxglove also... I'll have to think of some more.
Hmmm. They mowed my yard down this year :-| They left Butterfly weed also and the Penstemon redrocks. Ate everything around them.
Mine don't eat Siberian Iris either. Or my painted ferns. Or my Helleborus

Yes -- teh other night i did edit [too out the chatter, edits and other stuff that was not seed listing] and popped it off to Karen.
I had not heard if she got it or not though...
Ella - have you heard from Karen since Wed. night?
Maybe she took her PC in for a check-up, so she's off line.
As for all these left over seeds.... I do think there are a few folks who have not popped in yet??
At least that was my assumption....
that was why i really had not started pimping my seeds yet...
plus with the length of this swap, about 6 weeks?? that's a long time... i'm hoping those that have not come in yet, will want Morning Glories and some Honey Bee Agastaches. *smile*
Good morning folks.
Will someone please tell me how to do a link to a post? I only know how to link to a page.
I hope to be posting some additions to my list today or tomorrow. A few are more of the same that I'd run out of. A few are new. A few are from BeaHive, who just sent me a bunch of different seeds, sweet lady. I thought she was just sending one kind, and I don't have room for a bunch of them. Does anyone know what black beauty delphinium looks like? I can't find it doing a search?
I'm beginning to harvest the pink japanese anemone, but will not post til dry. I should be able to collect a lot of it. The tricyrtis are taking FOREVER, it seems. Every day I check, and no noticeable change in the green pods. Still hoping.
Star, hope you've recovered from your dental work. I sympathize. I don't have very well-behaved teeth either. I've got a bit of astilbe for you.
Per Me.... what you do is...
where is says ... Post #xxxxxx
click on that little blue link... when it opens in a new window, go to that window and copy the http up in the address bar, then come back and paste that http stuff in the thread... now you have a link to a "post".
Thanks tcs! I swear I've learned more new computer tidbits from you in the past week or two than I've learned in the past 5 years.
Here's a link to my seed list:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7230997
Now I'll make sure it works.
Whoopee! Another computer tidbit in the weary old brain - at least for now.

Pamsue, I looked up Newport Pink, and ya got me. I love Sweet William no matter what the color, but those do look like a winner. For some reason, natural reseeding is hit and miss for my SWs. Methinks the droughts of '07 and '08 threw off seedling production. I've got a nicely developing clump of 'Sooty' I wintersowed this year that will satisfy my want for blooms next spring, but I do need to get more colors going.
I've added a few things from Kim that I can split up into smaller packs, and a couple more things from the garden, including Toad Lily, Tricyrtis hirta 'Miyazaki' (which I've already promised some to perenniallyme, right?).
This is the first year I've been able to catch the seeds from the Toad Lilies, always saw the pods developing, then the empty husks. This year I've kept a closer eye on them, and now see why they were elusive. The tips of the pods open while they're still a little green, and seeds will shake out easily at that point. As soon as the pod starts splitting, the seeds are gone in a poof.
