I'm here, and I have a question... I have a lovely lavender-purple Lantana that's been blooming all summer in a pot. I brought it inside to save it from the cold (my neighbor has one that he overwinters every year in his garage).

I noticed (of course I noticed) that it has some dried flower bits on it that might be seed heads... but I crumbled a couple into my palm, and I'm not sure I see anything that looks like seeds, unless they are very tiny. Does anybody know about Lantana seeds?

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

You'll know if you get seeds; they look like little berries.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks! I definitely don't have anything that looks like little berries. Ah, well! :-)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Kelly, gotcha covered on the Gaura. That's the last of those.

Eagle Point, OR(Zone 8a)

Ella may I please have some of your Tomato Homestead and Tomato Adkinson?

Thank you,
Patti

Kannapolis, NC

Oh, Ella, those pictures of all the water in your yard make me think of snakes swimming around in it! Yuk, yuk, squealing like a real little piggy! Hate, hate, hate snakes. And did I say I don't like snakes?

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

>>make me think of snakes swimming around in it! Yuk, yuk,

me too!! and I most like snakes, i just dont want to swim with any.
Once... back in the late 80's when it was hotter than heck here... we were boating in the Illinois River [air temp was low 100's, water temp was low 90's] and i saw some snakes... DH never saw me move so fast -- up and outta the water. Yeeks.

Well Star, if any of yours get washed away, we'll help you replace them. Hope it stops raining for you. We are suppose to get 5 inches today. Got a couple already since last night. They say the worse is yet to come but anytime now. If it rains hard my satelite goes out for my internet so if anyone oinks, I'll get to it asap.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6b)

I posted some new items to my list.

a Japanese Black Futsu squash, easy to grow.
some red okra and some wonderful Italian flat bean seeds that are cobalt blue in color. (the seeds not the beans you eat lol)

Please send me a D-mail if you want some, i'm not keeping up with the forum. I am sick at the moment and not staying online much. If you have requested an item from me on here and NOT by Dmail, please send me one asap so I can mark you down. thanks :)

I may post some Dakota Black popcorn if anyone is interested? Dmail me if you are :)

This is the dark blue Columbine I got the seeds from that are on my list.

How long [years] does it take for Columbines to bloom? I WS'ed some back in early `08 and did not get blooms this year. I have a lot more seeds, but i'm quite disappointed with them so far. I also had A LOT of seeds that never even germinated.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

And this is the deep plum one, a cruddy pic, but you can make out the color.

Terese, I typically get blooms the 2nd year from them, but I had the same experience as you from some I started in '08 that also didn't bloom this year. I think it had to do with a drought that first year they were planted, they seemed to grow so slowly they didn't have time to reach maturity. They beefed up beautifully this year, and I fully expect to be wowed with them next spring, and I bet yours will be amazing too!

Oh, and meant to mention that the older the seeds for Columbine, the longer it can take them to germinate. If the seeds are fresh, they'll germinate readily, but by autumn they've developed a need for cold treatment. I think that's natures way of making sure seeds that fall to the ground late in the season are protected from germinating, leaving tiny seedlings susceptible to winter kill. Early wintersowing works well for them, but even then I've had some wait till July to germinate.

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

gemini - had to laugh at your list ..."because I have no brain."

Our HomeDepot has their bushes on sale 75% off. Had to buy a hydrangea for $5.00.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I keep my columbine seeds in the fridge... not sure if germination has been dropping off on older seeds, as I usually sow pretty generously LOL

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Ok I added some stuff to my list of haves!

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

I've got a craving for some seeds
Per Me may I oink for these Lillium seeds
Regale, Trumpet Lily Mix, Zeus, Electric Blue and Red Velvet

Gemini sage I would like this for dessert please
Zinnia Peppermint Stick Mix

Mekos I need this for a snack
Pelangorium Sun Showers (excuse me if I spelt the last word wrong I'm kinda faint with hunger for seeds)

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL Mindy! Faint with seed hunger

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Gotcha down for the zinnias Mindy. I've got quite a few of those, I imagine with the extras passed out, practically everyone will get some, LOL. I hope they're as fully doubled in the 2nd generation. The parents were great, hundreds of petals. Wish I could find a pic of them!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I will be happy with whatever comes in the extras....my backyard is a complete weed haven and hubby just purchased another property that needs some serious help!

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Mindy, Zeus and Red Velvet are gone, but you may have Regale, Trumpet mix and Electric, which is not blue, but orange.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Per Me... when i saw her ask for "Electric Blue"... i got all excited that someone had Penstemon Electric Blue... i had to run over and search the LISTS...

Wonder how Star is dealing with the weather... I have not pulled up the weather channel in a while. It did seem like most the rain was gone... but who knows about the winds.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

I still soggy here. It still rainign out. Not quite as heavy but still comign down on and off. Hopefulyl by mornign it will be over.

One thign with Columbine s is that you really have to watch when you transplant them. You can't bury the crowns. They have to have crowns up ad be kept somewhat on the drier side. They also heavy feeders. Yep usually bloosm don't come til second year. They need a good vernalizarion period.

Simpsonville, SC(Zone 7b)

It's been raining here for nearly 2 days straight. I think most stuff heads from you straight to us Ella! Luckily, we don't tend to have flooding problems. One things for sure, if I have any issues with my new bed/terrace area draining, I'll know by this afternoon!

Thanks for the heads up on columbine... if this ever stops, its time to get all the ones I have from last year planted out! How separate do they have to be to not worry about cross pollination would you say? Other sides of yard, or just a ways apart in the same bed? I may have to stop worrying about such things and just have a 'mystery mix' of certain seeds at some point!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

KlStuart. Hope yoru new bed s hold. I would not worry abotu cross polination cuz yoru goign to have it even ya plant the plants 10 feet apart. Hummingbirds and other beneficials love the Columbine s and they gonan go from oen to another huntign them out and wil fidn them no matter how far apart they are.

Just want to let evrybody know. I have all yoru requests , btu can't chanc e updating my list yet. All the rain has the server running on half power and I would literally freak if I trie d to edit it and when to hit send and it came up that I had lost internet.

So if ya don't see yoru name don't panic, soon a s I know pute r not gonan kick me off wil get it updated have ya on my pape rlists for now.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I collected some Phoenix roebelenii palm tree seeds, how many should I put in a package? It is hardy zone 9a - 11. Sreds need to germinate in gelatin, agar or other medium. Any interest? Also learned you can fertilize palms with Epsom Salts, much cheaper than palm fertilizer.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I have updated my list, added Canterbury Bells, Licorice mint, Ruby Port Columbine, Husk tomato, Digitalis Laevigata and Phoenix roebelinii palm. This is a picture of my bitone marigold, why no takers, I liberated the seed at great peril, as eyes were watching while I was deadheading in a CLOSED public park.

Went out this morning & took pics of the flowers still growing in my
beds. Not partial to pink but those are the ones that survived.

Mittsy, I took have had people watching while deadheading in
public. They'll get over it :)

Marigolds are lovely but make my eyes water.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I just realized I'd neglected to include Zinnia Benary's Giants on my list (was wondering why nobody was oinking for those, LOL). They're listed now, and here's a pic of the parents with the Dahlias I'm offering behind them.

Simpsonville, SC(Zone 7b)

Its funny, Marigolds are one of the few flowers I had grown before a few years ago. Thought of them as the easiest around. In the past couple of years, as my gardening experience grows, my luck with marigolds seems to be going downhill! I wonder if a great many of them are sterile, and if they have a shorter shelf-life... Tried direct sowing a bunch of them last year, and had not a single sprout!

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Mittsy, sent you a dmail. Oinking for your digitalis laevigata please. Next year I should have some to offer because my last winter's plants should flower this year and make seed. Just trying to make it perennial by planting 2 years in a row. I also think it's supposed to be hardier than 6b. Sure hope so.

Simpsonville, SC(Zone 7b)

What a gorgeous photo!

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Neal, I'll oink for some of your zinnia Benary's giants. Last year I asked for tall large zinnias and ended up with a lot of shorter small-flowered ones, so I didn't know if they'd come true, and had been thinking about buying zinnia seeds this year so I'd get what I wanted.

Simpsonville, SC(Zone 7b)

Mittsy, you have dmail... oinking for your Aquilegia Ruby Port... just couldn't resist :)

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

oh geez. no fair postign pics. LOL I supposed to be good this year. Ya just want to see this piggy wiggle and wallow a round don't ya.

Mittsy. Now that I seen the pic. that the color and type of marigold I lookign for . Can ya tell me abotu hwo tall they were? I need oens that are mroe than just a few inche s tall cuz of drought and heat her e the really shor tones don't survive.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8a)

Gemini - I am oinking for zinnia benary giants and dark blue columbine.

Mittsy - hoping for digitalis laevigata and some of your marigolds.
