Great handle on that knife dnut. Where in the NE did you grow up?
Louise, I'm sure you'll get some time to yourself eventually. The puppies are so cute.
I just finished another Christmas present. Just to bring this work down a notch: I'm not drawing these from scratch, I get the ideas for these designs from some books where I copy them line for line. After my classes, I hope to really do this on my own from life. Here's a peony.
SUN thing to feel good about
Pretty! I couldn't even trace anything that nice--and I like the shading!
You're sweet.
Well, you do a great job of copying, and I'm sure you will good at coming up with your own ideas eventually, too.
Great knife, Cousin Nut! It's nice to give yourself presents.
Karen
Thank you Karen. That made me feel good.
Very nice, Harp. Ever attempt a passionflower? Very complicated flower.
You know, it's weird with me, but I have yet to find passion over a passionflower. I'm expecting them to move me one day. They sure are funky. Until then, they're just like a strange flower to me.
I agree. Never grew one.
Drawing it would be a feat!
You're welcome, Harper! I'm like you, no passion for passion flowers. They really are strange. They look like they're from another planet. Now orchids, on the other hand...
Karen
Oh, yeah. Orchids are also unusual, but a much better design, I think. Love them.
Looks like they have extra parts that they don't know what to do with.
I think they look like a cool attempt at a folded paper snowflake cutout.
Failed attempt.
I was being kind Victor! some people love the plant.
i think you could do any flower harper based on that one - just give it a go
You're sweet Bill. Thanks. I'll keep working at it. I'll get better!
Sof I grew up in the Toronto area. Very prettiful peony.
Thank you. I've heard Toronto is similar to NYC. Is it? Have you been to NYC?
Very nice painting, Harper! You'll love your art class. I would like to paint a passiflora, but first I'd have to grow one! Same with orchids.
Thank you Marilyn. Oh, orchids... Have you ever been to an orchid show? I've been to one at the NY Botanical Gardens. Boy, that was breathtaking. Wish I could find my pictures from then.
Woo-hoo!
omg--Gorgeous!
Love the blue one--I covet it!
lovely flowers
Wow, that's really beautiful and only $4!
I remember the blue orchid sign said it was very rare.
I think TO is similar to NYC but NYC has way better theatre and art IMPO. 2 ML baseball teams is a bonus too. WOWSER on the orchids. The nicest display I saw was at the NW Flower and Garden show in Seattle. I used to go to that one when I lived in Vancouver BC.
Bravo on the peony, Harper! Copied or not, that's NOT easy to do. I know from my feeble terra cotta designs. Good job! And those orchids are beautiful. I just have to share this orchid show story with you. My Mom was an orchid hybridizer and she crossed a very early red orchid that she registered and named after my Dad. She was President of the Orchid Society here until she was devastated by Alzheimer's. Flash forward many years when Hank and I went to the Orchid Society's local Orchid show at a large mall here a few years ago. I was in search of one of my Mom's crosses to give to a dear friend who loves orchids for a special birthday. As we walked through the show, there were literally thousands of orchids in bloom, and I sort of gave up after being overwhelmed by all the orchids. I spotted a really vivid yellow and magenta orchid and decided to just buy it for my friend. I took it up to the people manning the booth to pay for it, and when I got to talking with the man there, I learned that he and his wife had been members of the Orchid Society for many years, so I asked if they knew my Mom. The man got tears in his eyes and called his wife over. It turned out that they were close friends of my Mom's, and she had actually willed them her collection. He looked down at the orchid I was holding and said, "Do you realize that that orchid is one of your Mom's crosses?" Out of thousands of orchids, I had unknowingly chosen one of my Mom's orchids after all. I get shivers every time I recall that moment.
Wow! That is an amazing story!
That is beautiful DonnieB. Thanks for sharing.
i agree - nice story.
Your story gave me shivers too--and a tear.
The orchid pics are wonderful, Harper! I love that blue one, too. Awesome!
Hey, isn't today winter solstice? If so, then Happy Solstice everyone!
Phoebe, nice orchid you have there.
Louise, that's a fantastic story! The Lord works in mysterious ways, as they say.
