Or overcrowded, and messy with falling leaves, LOL. We did finally get a plant stand, they were sitting on the floor, and in the whirlpool. Luckily I have a seperate shower, or we would have been bathing together.
But I just could not let them die. I used to be able to overwinter plants in the garage, but my husbands business selling lightbars has expanded, and we have a garage full of lightbars. I need a greenhouse.
SUN thing to feel good about
LOL!
Beware of spider mites. Dry winters can be very harsh on those lovely tropicals. Make them hang on 'till May and you're good to go.
Yes. Don't we all need a greenhouse? Oh, the possibilities!
I did spray them before I brought them in with one of the Safer sprays. I had one that overwintered in the bathroom for a couple of years, one of the grocery store kinds, and it did well, so I'm hoping. .
Just keep an eye out for them around late January, February. They're teeny and can show up anytime even if you already sprayed.
s*p*i*d*e*r*m*i*t*e*s are evil.
No stockings hanging on the hibiscus, I hope!
Yes they are dnut!
Love that one too!
Mine are from Duponts Cajun series. Delta Rose, Voodoo Queen, Creole Lady, Swamp Music, and Bayou Rose. The other is a double tangerine colored one I picked up a couple of years ago at Lowes.
Do you have any of those, Louise?
Beautiful!!!! I understand why you want to keep them alive.
Just spray them with safer soap. Keep them humid. They should make it.
Thanks, will do.
Drooling over your flowers, folks! That should keep them humid!
Eeeew
Louise, the peach hibiscus(3rd row) with the maroon center..do you know the name? I have that one blooming now. Thanks!
Edited to say they are all beautiful!

Celeste - that one is Buttercup. It is more pale yellow than peach in reality. It was one of my first ones, and I think it is one that was hybridized by my friend's father here in town.
Polly - I don't have any of the Cajun series, but they sure are pretty! I tried to take a cutting of Mrs. Jimmy Spangler, but I just have no luck with them. I think it's a goner. My friend a couple doors down from me has been trying to root a cutting of Seminole Pink for me, but she also has a tough time with rooting hibiscus. I've followed the instructions carefully, but with no luck. Just about every other plant here roots if you look at it funny. We have 4 Gumbo Limbo trees now that were mere sticks stuck in the ground the day before we left last spring. Amazing!
I've never tried rooting one, Louise. I'll have to look into it.
Pretty neat when someone you know hybridizes a plant that's marketed!
Pretty. Did you spray it before bringing it in for spider mites, or other insects? I think after seeing spider mites will be a problem, I'll spray again around the end of December or so?
Nice hibs, everyone, and I love your bouganvilla, Andy! I'm envious!
Karen
Beautiful Plants Louise
Polly - yes, I had no idea then how many neat cultivars he was responsible for until I searched under his name (James Hendry). I like having some of his cultivars.
Celeste - that is a beauty. I don't think it is Buttercup, because Buttercup is more yellow than peach.
Thanks, Karen and Jo Ann! I can't say I'm doing much here except maintaining things at a rather low level at the moment. I should have fertilized my veggies and annuals today, but I got caught up in Bichonery and husbandry instead. LOL
"Bichonery and husbandry"... funny!
Cute! And more fun than fertilizing!
Karen
Ha! I still haven't gotten out there and fertilized anything! There's time.....right? At least I planted everything in good (translate that into "purchased with hard cold cash!") garden soil. The least those veggies can do to show their gratitude for that good soil is to grow and give forth, right?
Absolutely right, Louise!
Karen
Wheeeeeee! The men in my life stepped up and watched the little ladies in my life, so I got out there and planted and fertilized and now I feel much better about the garden. My tomato plants aren't as robust as I would expect them to be. The two that are not as full as usual were given to me by my neighbor....one is an azoyschka (that may be misspelled) and one is a green zebra. I've gotten those from her before and they were interesting. The ones in the ground are looking better and I just planted a marigold next to them.
louise glad someone has some things growing outside!
Yeah, Bill......but I'm missing all the big stones that you have to play with all winter!
Here's a shot of my newly developing shade garden around the old sand box that was left by the last family years ago. A future project will be to close up the open areas around the perimeter, fill it with good soil and have a raised shade bed to disguise our back neighbor's ugly fence. Check out the size of the tree in their back yard!
Except for the banana tree that we planted there last year, most of the other plants were picked out and given to me by my son, Mike.
any banana's yet?
Nice, Louise! That's a very big tree in your neighbor's back yard. I like it!
Karen
Very nice, I love the green & white plant by the banana tree!!
What a sweet spot.
Our neighbor is putting up a new garage. My husband has done most of the ground work. We got our friend that does dry wall the job to put up the ceiling and walls and started today. He came for coffee this morning and we talked about how we used to jump 7 feet off something as a kid. He got talking about falling in the garage this morning.
I looked out the window and saw the AMBULANCE pull in. I did not have sweet words. Another friend took a digger face down on the cement. He's ok but going to be quite sore with stitches and possibly a concussion. I am looking out my office window.
hope he is alright
Lovely tropical plants and color help to get us through, thanks you guys. Hate the dark on each end of my day taking up so much daylight now too.
Hope your friend is okay and recovers soon. Does sound quite painful and scary. Ouch!
Yeah, hope your friend is okay.
Karen
Ouch!!! Hope he heals fast.
Falls can be serious! Louise, no tortoises? I planted a lemon only to have it totally eaten by the tortoise in the field behind the house!
