But the Oregano remains the same....

Jesup, GA

Is every one busy? Sighhhhhh,I think I am talking to air again.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie and Smiley, up in your areas, don't plant the sweet potato tubers until spring. Just a reminder.

Dave, I was just joking about the plumbline! I can't believe anyone would take it seriously.

I am having a good day. Washed 3 pots with that Clorox Cleaner. Really like that stuff but it still will leave bleach spots on clothes if not careful. I repotted the Brom, the Schif, and the new bush, whatever you want to call it. I repotted all of them when I first got them but I do want my Brom to have babies and the other 2 to grow up big and tall.

I am about ready to cut off the 1/3 to 1/2 the length of the branches of what used to be my good avocado tree. All the leaves that are left are bad. Some branches have just a few leaves at the very end of the branch. What do you think?

Moon, I never found out what the large aluminum pan was for.???

(Zone 5b)

Venice I think she was suggesting you put that under your plant pots.
Dixie I'm here! I sure wasn't hanging about the chicken coop! ;) I did go for a snack, though, some crackers & a teeny tiny Snickers.

Jesup, GA

Hey Venice, I think Moon meant for you to use them for plant trays. I think???

(Zone 5b)

I feel like Sisyphus....I need someone to run me a bath & feed me.

Jesup, GA

I just ate all of the grands Skittles. He,he,he,he,I feel so ashamed. I will have to replace them before she comes back to visit.

Jesup, GA

I think I'll just do my usual. Sit on the patio and be hand fed grapes and fanned with palm fronds. Grin

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, funny thing! I had already made it to the dollar store and got some of those aluminum pans, (4 ) 8" round ones for $1.00! Pretty flimsy but does the job. I also got one of those rectangular plastic trays that look like crystal. I have 6 small pots on it. For a 14" pot I have, they just had a steel pizza pan and I knew it would rust. So I got a round platter from Goodwill next door. I didn't want to pay $1.99 for it but regular clay or pottery ones are really expensive.

And how could I forget to mention your rock, NOT! Boulder is more like it!!! LOL That is huge! You did a great job!

Keaau, HI

If the leaves aren't dead, they're not bad. However I would trim the plant to try to get it to bush out.

Is the tree always in shade like that?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon and Dave, what do you think about my cutting off the length of branches on my avocado tree? Here is another photo. The other one makes it look like there are more leaves than there really are.

Thumbnail by venice62
Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, it is in partial sun. I was taking the photo directly into the sun from the window. That's why it doesn't look the way it really does.

Keaau, HI

Carol, does it make you feel good to cut your plants?

Keaau, HI

Keep in mind that Avocados are tropical trees that need to be in full sun to do well.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, I thought that full sun made brown spots on the leaves. But it does get direct sun because I have the h&c and elephant tree in front of it. My window faces almost directly south but the sun is a little lower in the sky now. Even when it was in the 60's today, inside it was 77 degrees!

I like my plants to look good. Always before if I had a plant that had dying or yellow leaves, I would cut them off. I feel kind of sad when I see a plant dying or when my avocado tree looks so pathetic when I have had it for so long. I just want to make it better.

Really all of the leaves have these brown areas, some even more than this. I closed the blinds so this photo is more like the natural color but it still doesn't show how all the leaves have the brown spots.

excellent idea Dixie!
thank you Venice on my rock compliment :)
dinner! yay!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dixie, I think so too. I am really ready to sit on my patio and be hand fed grapes and fanned with palm fronds!!! Ahhhh! We can dream.

Jesup, GA

LOL Dave,I caught that. Dont know if V. did though.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, how should I trim my tree? Seems to me I read something about only cutting back about 1/3. Is that about right? Or maybe a little more on the longer branches?

Keaau, HI

Even though the leaves don't look good to you, the plant is using them to respire and make food. If you are trying to get the plant to bush out by trimming some branches back, okay. If you want the plant to look healthy, stop chopping leaves off of it; the plant will drop any leaves it does not need.

If you go to the doctor for a sprained finger, should the doctor chop your hand off if it looks a little bruised?

Better to learn how to care for the plants, rather than chop up plants that don't perform well under their given conditions.

Jesup, GA

I know V. Doesn't that sound wonderful? I would like it just for a couple of hours. May be a massage, hot bubble bath, whilst I am being read to, as I soak in my bubbles. Or perhaps, fed chocolate truffles as i soak or both. Ahhhhhhhhhh yes,we can dream.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Soooo nice!

Keaau, HI

Hey Carol, trimming off 1/3 should be okay. Remember to feed the tree too.

Once the plant looks healthy, you can take a few leaves for use as seasoning.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Du-uh, silly me, Dave. Sometimes I'm just dense like that.

Lynnie, If you have 3 tubers to spare, I can follow Moon's directions. I usually put 3 viney things in my window boxes, if they have eyes I can cut them up.

Hiya Dixie. Did you save any skittles?

Jesup, GA

Hey V. if I ever get a growth you can cut that off if ya want. It will save me a doctor visit! Grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

On second thought, the chocolate truffles sound nice.

I copied Dave's directions for chocolate down when he posted them. All I need are the roasted cacao beans... gourmet store...

I found out Trina is sick. But she can keep down crackers, so I'm sure she'll be back soon.

Jesup, GA

Hi ya Smiley. Not a one. Ate the whole box.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I went to the foot doctor last week and she was 1 hour late because of surgery. She had to remove part of someone's foot that had gangreen! Yuck

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

They are one of my favorite non-chocolate candies. Like the grape ones. Like them all, actually. But gimme an almond joy any day!

Did you eat them slowly..... one by one..... or gobblethewholeboxdown by the handfuls?

ha! ha! just kidding! that is how I eat them, one by one, then kablam! I end up eating a handful and mixing all the flavors together.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

That's too bad Venice. A friend of mine has diabetes (along with a bunch of other stuff) and they had to take off one of his toes. Looks like someone took a bite out of it (his description-not mine).

Sorry about that description.

I have to go. The Boy is here, 2 days in a row. Must be broke, comes around dinner time. Smart kid, huh?

Trina has a stomach flu. But they all had their H1N1 shots, so it's not that.

See you all later, Dave, enjoy that dinner. Have some for me please, it sounded really good.

Keaau, HI

There ya go!

If the leaves are still green, leave them alone.

If your foot turns green, chop it off.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I hope Trina doesn't have that N1 flu! I didn't feel well myself today. I thought it was because I changed to a cheaper medication and my stomach was hurting. I just had some Campbell's Chicken and Noodle Soup. Sometimes you just have to have an old standby.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, you are funny!

Jesup, GA

If my foot turns green you can chop it off V.

Jesup, GA

TRINA,we are sorry that you are sick get well soon! We miss ya girl!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Deal! lol

(Zone 5b)

lol Dixie
Venice needs a real bonsai plant.
Smiley would you like 2 of each color?

Keaau, HI

A hui hou Smiley!

Eating right is very important, especially for diabetics. Put the sugar back in the pantry, and get out the veggies & whole grain!

Sugar causes obesity, memory loss, vision loss, compromises the immune system, causes fatigue and loss of energy, and it causes diabetes type two.
When I hear that someone is having cookies & soda-pop for a meal, it makes me ill!
Sugar makes a person feel good while they are eating it; afterwards it irritates the system.

Jesup, GA

Husband just came in and said lets go some where. Grabbing my purse girls! This means he's going to spend some money! HA,HA,HA,HE,HE,HE. Making my list and checking it twice......Talk to yall a little later. Mamma wants a new pair of shoes.

(Zone 5b)

Dave I have fruits & veggies with every meal...
