3rd Annual DG Christmas Craft Workshop..Pt.3

(Chris) Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

Betty, what size of containers of the acrylic paint should I get for the cardinal snowman? (Cathy, I can only hope that mine turns out as cute as yours!!) And what's this about we're supposed to be sanding them right now?? ack!!! Also, what type of glue will be the best to use for putting these together? Can you tell that I'm slightly new at this??? :)

Guess I better get everything out tomorrow and really look it over LOL.. by the way, I loved your "wrapping" on the package! :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Chris...I don't really sand my piece until I've finished painting and letting it dry, then where I've cross-cut the edges I sand to give it a more primitive look...

At Michael's or the Dollar Stores they sell little plastic acrylic bottles of paint, If the bottles are 2 oz. that's all you need in any of the colors shown on the photo of the piece you've chosen, but for the white you are better to have 4 oz. just to make sure...

As for the glue, any wood glue will do but I always have on hand Lepage's NO MORE NAILS glue...and are they right..strong stuff...myself I have a brad nailer and compressor so that's what I use..

What I would say though is if you have any stain or you could purchase a small acrylic bottle of brown, I'd base coat the back of the snowman (then you have a finished back) and the cross-cut sides of ALL your pieces...really does make it more primitive when you are finished...

ALERT/ALERT/ALERT....

The ROUGH side is the good side and again, DO NOT sand that roughness OFF....that's what we want to make it rutic...

Are we going to choose a day as we've done in the past to work together on them or would you rather do it during the week, let me know when during the day and I can help each of you out..know how hard it is for everyone to find the same day..

Let me know you ideas on this...

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

I'm so glad some one asked the question about the paint, I will add stain on my list. I have to get the paint at Walmart or Hobby lobby our dollar store's don't carrie it but thats ok its not very expensive at either place. I will also add wood glue too. I am flexable on a day or just working on them and then asking a bunch of questions. Thank You for all your work on this Betty. Susan

Arnett, WV(Zone 5b)

Any day is good 4-me. LOL

Cathy

Victoria Harbour, ON

ok...we'll wait until Monday in hopes all the other kits arrive...
You don't have to have actual stain, brown acrylic paint watered down somewhat into consistency of stain will do fine...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I got to get paint tomorrow, I've got to look to see what I already have from the birdhouse project.

I'm available on the weekends and from Thanksgiving Day through the following Monday. I'm thinking about since Dave is working to go visit my dad but he's north and I don't really want to go north, plus, uh, well, I just lost my thought LOL

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I sure hope it gets there, I put cASH IN SO YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TROUBLE WITH CASHING A CHECK! Sorry about caps!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Audrey I'm sure it will..don't you fret..one of the girls said it took almost 3 weeks to get here...

Next time I think I'll say send international postal orders..find it difficult to cash cheques as well not having USA bank account...

But all is well..you should have your kits shortly those who don't...

Ocean Springs, MS

I'm here (waving wildly)! My youngest little boy had an asthma attack Monday night and I was home with him for 2 days. He is doing well; thank God his rescue inhaler was able to keep it under control. He is back at school today and I am back at work.

Oops! I started on my snowman because I was bored being home for 2 days. I painted the snowman and the flag; my children are going to help me finish painting him next week. We are also making stepping stones for them to give to grandparents for Christmas. Yeah! Being a teacher and having the whole week off for Thanksgiving is definitely a plus!

love, julie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone. Wow, I went hunting for this thread, and was wondering why no one has been posting.
Love all that has been shown. We do have some talent here!
Betty, I got my package today, along with the beautiful hanging angel ornament. Thank you so much!
Will be waiting for further instructions.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad you got it Linda Kay...it was mailed from here right? then the others shouldn't be far behind...your welcome about the 'pressie' you all deserve it for taking a chance in joining me once again this year in yet another workshop..lol..

Crissy, that's good news isn't it that Dave will still be working come Thanksgiving..let's hope he gets reprieves, Christmas then Easter etc. etc.

Raining heavily, have to travel to portrait class tonight and don't want to go but must...need to start Noah's portrait..christmas is coming you know..frames are at the studio waiting...

Yesterday I went to a photo studio that does duplicates that you can barely tell they arent' hand done..omg $35.00 each so nope took them back to the office with me...stopped in Staples, omg they looked terrible..so broke down, went and dropped them off at the studio..get to pick them up next Thursday so guess while in class they'll get framed then I'll just have to wrap them..the duplicates are going to my ex-daughter in law and the other set to grandparents....

COPIES OF OTHER CARD TEMPLATES...

I've scanned about 5 or 6..if anyone would like them just d-mail me your e-mail address and I'll e-mail them to you..

Jane, hope you enjoy!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jane and Judy, sent you both an e-mail with card template attachments

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty you are an amazing woman. I would LOVE to have the templates too. I was able to get some card stock last weekend and oldest grandson Brandon is going to make cards with me. (Can't do something with Sean and not big brother!!) Thank you.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Dave sent me an email earlier that said that his boss is giving him a slew of days and his boss's boss is giving him tons of work to do. The guy who trained him said for him to not be surprised if he works beyond the 60 days. I'm still not going to spend much money from now on, going to stop playing in the swaps because we will really be sunk without his pay.

Glenview, IL

Awsom Betty, Thank You!!!
The templates printed beautifully.

Waiving Hi everyone...Gotta run, got an emergency Key chain to bead!
Geesh, DH needs to stop volunteering me, lol or gie me more then a day to create! Yikes, going to be an all nighter.

Betty, please send me the templates also. Thanks, julie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning...many sent me their e-mail addresses so I can forward more templates..excited that you all enjoyed and want to make more...yippee now I'm not the only one addicted...sitting here doing some of my own, would love to get them in the mail next week...

Long day yesterday, went to night class and didn't get home until 11:30 pm..glad I slept like a baby for the hours I did have to rest up..

Today, batteries are energized , up early, took measurements, girls decided they wanted to make that B I G piece I bought in Hamburg N.Y. so this afternoon I'm on a mission..getting all the wood and supplies I need, pick up the 4 telephones I purchased for grandchildren, the oscillating multi tools I bought for various friends..figure by then I'll be on bread and water till next payday...lol...

As the the tool I used to cut the edges, I used my band saw as I held each piece at an angle...great way to cut ones fingers off ...so be careful PLEASE....

For those of you who requested templates, let's see if I saved it as a photo and I attach if you could print it off and it would be correct size..let me know please....

Didn't print out on my printer...too light..I'll e-mail perhaps they will come out darker..not sure thats the case...if not, back to the drawing board, I'll do the lines with dark marker and try again...would save mailing them right

Arnett, WV(Zone 5b)

Mine came out too small. But I can fix that I believe.

Cathy

Pacifica, CA

i think the same to, will play with copy machine i think it will work.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well those of you who sent me your e-mail addresses I've sent to you, see if they are larger and more clear...

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Mine came out great, just had to have an adopted son print them out, he was here messing with my computer again, he is a computer nerd, graduated from a full ride scholarship in three years for computer something, can you tell I'm not real computer smart, and he works on my computer all the time because he thinks we need to keep up with the new stuff and its usually just when I've finely figured out half way how to operated the old programs. He said he would come back and show me how to scan mine and make each one bigger or darker if I wanted them too. I hope he plans on staying for supper, :0 lol. Well better get off and get to town so I can shop some more. Everyone have a wonderful day. Susan

Ocean Springs, MS

Betty, I need your expertise. If I wanted to cut the hole in this birdhouse, what is the best tool to use. I looked at a jigsaw and a dremel this morning, but wanted to get your input before buying.

Julie, if you have a drill, perhaps you can borrow or use forsener bit..it will drill it out no problem...they come in different sizes...

Ocean Springs, MS

What is a forsener bit? I'm just beginning here so please excuse my ignorance. love, julie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got in Julie, will post photo shortly...

A few things in the car needs to come inside before dark and before I run out of energy...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Maybe a few more things need to come in...

Guys at the lumber yard couldn't believe how much I was able to fit into my vehicle, of course they are all sweetheart..cut my wood to measure...boy, will that save me a lot of work...

Just missed the girl Greg ordered the 4 cel phones from..she's off till Monday and the girls didn't know where she had put them..paid for them and Greg will pick them up next week...glad that's behind me..always hard to find something for those little gaffers...

Got all the oscillating tool sets that I needed for friends for Christmas..in fact, got the wrapping paper out, going for a bath and then I'll wrap, trace pattern for the lanterns in my next workshop kit then early to bed...lots to do this weekend..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Julie, although I have a kit these can be purchased separately..whatever the size of the hole you want that's the dimension of drill bit you purchase...works great and makes nice clean holes...

Audrey, you don't have to worry sweetie, you envelope came in today...now hopefully your kit has arrived....

ohhh we must have had wind..mom had given me a 2 ft. Santa (ceramics) put him out under the front deck tree, tree fell, broke the Santa..right at the belly line, kept the bottom part of his body, it will make a cute flower holder..lol..as though I don't have enough junk..better go tie to tree

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Betty, I have to go rest just from reading your post. LOL Mercy woman, where do you find the energy. :)

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Awe Betty, sorry to hear your Santa broke. Can't wait to see the arrangement you place in it!
I believe those drills bits, are also they same thing you use to drill a hole in a door with for the doorknob?

Have a great week-end everyone!

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Betty, if it is ceramic, regular old Elmer's white glue will hold it great. That is , if the top half is still in one piece.

Victoria Harbour, ON

It's in far too many pieces to glue...Linda Kay 1/2 a santa is better than none right..I'll come up with something..

No, the bits that do the door holes suct out the entire circle of wood, this one virtually cuts out the wood, what's left can be used for bedding for animals if you were so inclined..

Presents wrapped, wood in the house, lanterns circles market for cutting and now it's Betty byes for the night...

Gab tomorrow

Glenview, IL

Awe.. Haven't hear you say Betty Byes in ages, big smile to hear it again.
Good night Betty, Hqave a good sleep, geesh, you deserve it.

Oh, got a tree ornament done!

LK. here is my Keychain, had to wait on DH, was using camera today.

Oh how pretty. Looks like they are time consuming, stringing all those beeds?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow Judy that's a lot of stringing...talk about patience...now did you say it was for Steve to give away? maybe I misunderstood, do that sometimes you know...

Well I'm behind today, imagine that! lol
Woke up at 5 and thought I'd get a few hours in before my perm, must have been thinking just a little too long because I fell back asleep...oh well, must have needed it...

Hoping to get lot's accomplished, talk to you all later..do enjoy your day!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Betty, glad to hear you slept in, and got some much needed rest!
