3rd Annual DG Christmas Craft Workshop..Pt.3

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

Betty,I opened my pkg.THANK YOU for the sun catcher ,you are wonder woman .I didnt get it stained ,maybe today after work.Tamara

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty I opened mine last night. I had to wait until Sean went home. He is much better by the way. I think he saw other kids being dismissed and thought he'd try to. The little devil!!!! I thnk you so much for the sun cather. She is just lovely and you are so sweet to send her. I need to sort my pieces between the ones for this year and the "Do You See What I See" pieces. I must go back and check out the pictures!!!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

JUST A TIP: When I opened my first pkg. the little ornament was inside and I so love it. The purple color was just for me, right? Then I opened the second pkg and it didn't have an ornament. Thought that was strange until I felt through the paper and found that this time the ornament was in the envelope on the front of the pkg. where my mailing address was written. I quickly cut it open and there was my ornament!.

So for you who don't find a little metal ornament with purple glass in your pkg., look in the envelope of the front. I could have easily thrown out the paper and missed the gift if I hadn't been looking for it.

What kind of paint am I buying to paint these? Do I need to put a abase coat on first if I don't stain it? So I am working on the rough side of the wood and not sanding it. Am I sanding the edges? I know, I know...I need to wait until the workshop to find out everything!

Thanks for doing all of this, Betty. This will make a great gift for my hard to find something for daughter. Hope I don't botch it up.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm gathering that we're supposed to work on the non-sanded side. She sent them to us exactly the way we're going to be working on them, no alternations. The rough wood is what gives it the old antique look.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL you won't botch it up Janice, not at all...

Some of the packages, of course I was rushed (my schedule not yours lol) so I had to think, did I put one in, did I not put one in..so some I attached to the outside JUST to make sure....

Yes, the rough surface will be the good side...
Acrylic paints ( $$$ store variety will do)

Sanding...I wouldn't spend time sanding right now, WHY you ask???? because once each piece is basecoated we'll sand the edges to get a bit of the age/antique look...

If you have stain at home, just give all the pieces a light coat..if not, maybe purchase brown acrylic paint, water it down and give it a coat...

NOW, if you don't like the aged/antique look do neither...

Can you believe my class is tonight and I'm still playing with kits!

Not crucial, they are extra's incase they want to do more..ha/ha bet you thought I was dodging it right?

Don't answer that...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty - I have been searching and searching for the picture of "Do you see what I see" and I can't seem to find it. Could you send it again when you have time? I just need some kind of visual to work with Sean on our project. Thank you so much for thinking of him...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure where I posted it Barb...won't be home until around midnight tonight, but will take a couple close ups of front and back for you to follow...only thing needed and your DH probably has one is a counterzink drill bit that allows for the lights ....only takes a few hours for you both to do..think he'll enjoy it!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I guess I just get it and never knew it! LOL! We'll see how good I do with this thing they call painting...

Betty the cell phone case is lovely, thank you for doing that, now I don't want to give it back! LOL

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty,We got the brushes off first thing~her first comment? That is a lot of tape! I explained to her how the PO treats packages and the tape was to insure that Everything arrived. She decided that was a good idea. Sage was very excited about the brushes also. I bought her a pre-printed, stretched canvas with a Unicorn...it came with paint, a little palette and one of the gosh awful plastic handle brushes with the thick hard bristles like I use to do large areas of masking, definitely not suitable for painting. The timing was Perfect! Now we can both hardly wait for Friday so we can work on our projects together. Thankfully we had her dad's birthday gifts to buy and wrap that took up her time yesterday. She does love all kinds of art and crafts, and I do my best to help and encourage her. Thank you so much for thinking of her, I wish you could have seen her face light up!

That's so cute Trish, too bad you didn't have a camera handy, huh.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thank you Betty - no rush. They have the flu at their house so Papa and I must stay away. I hate it though.. Bad cases of swine here. One girl in the school actually had to have lung surgery and Brandon's friend ran a temp of over 103 for six days!!!!! It's really scary...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

It's hitting the kids and elderly hard. I wonder if my slight case of asthma gives me a H1N1 shot....

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm not on anything, I have an inhaler of Xopenex HFA that is full and expired last May. I take Advair when I get my annual bout with bronchitis, but that's expired now too.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

you can try

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I might. I hate shots and never get the regular flu shot because of it, now that's bad isn't it? LOL

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I hate shots too they gave me the nasal stuff

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL I just don't go, not always the smartest idea...

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I've never gotten a flu shot before this year, and didn't want this one!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I've never gotten one, year before last I had just moved here from CA and just started working that June. In September everyone in the office started talking about the flu shots and said that I had to get one, I said No, I get colds and bronchitis, hardly ever get the flu. They all got mad and harassed me for a month. Well, around February everyone started getting the flu and ended up everyone having the flu except for me! LOL

Some were working on a 'Memorial Quilt' fitting, today is Remembrance Day...already they've raised $7,500...families pay $50.00 to put their loved ones name on the quilt...

Groups can purchase larger areas for $200.

I thought it was a novel idea...

it will be quite looped, just remember, don't drill the holes further than the cord between each of the lights can reach..done that, see the holes I had to fill..lol..

Am sure you'll have fun making it with Sean....
Any questions, just ask.

It was 1976 ,they gave 40million shots for the flu that never was,and they really werent sure how many people it made sick with neurological problems,I wish I wouldnt have read that article now !!!

No flu shot for me. But I do need to get the kids one. A lot of people are afraid to get them because of the controversy. Oh, well. My kids are so prone to getting everything, so I'm not taking any chances with them.

I made three purses yesterday from books. I really need to get some pics posted. Working on cross stitch again now for Colt.

Have a great day! love, julie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Julie, you must put a photo of them so we can see...

I grew up an Army bratt and when our post commander even asked that none of us get flu shots, it kinda stuck!
