Coffee Break #22 - NY Rules!!!!

South Hamilton, MA

Please--don't refer to them as 'German' iris. they are bearded iris--the other name is an early 20th century nursery mistake as they were called Iris germanica which is also a misnomer as that species is sterile.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

OK. The bearded iris made me happy.

South Hamilton, MA

I'm glad.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sorta an update on my mom, my other sis sent me an e-mail that says she spoke with my mom and she says she's getting discharged tomorrow, but my mom is really confused and doesn't even know why she's in the hospital. I tried to call my other sis since I didn't hear from her and her mailbox is full, UGH.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

How frustrating!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Jen, so sorry about your Mom! Sending prayers her way.

The Fort Hood shooting was truly tragic. Things like that shouldn't happen.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That must be very frustrating being so far away, Jen. I hope it works out soon.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Congrats to Jeter and Teixeira for gold gloves.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

youk deserves the gold glove although the constant swapping to first hurts his chances.

everyone knows how i feel about jeter

pedrioa is the best second basemen in baseball

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

So I talked to my oldest sis and she said that my mom is probably NOT being released tomorrow, they are still running tests to find out why her kidneys shut down(she has an infection) they have her on 2 types of antibiotics and have to run 6 bags of fluids thru her to help with dehydration. They also have her on a watch list because she hasn't been eating either...which I've heard of before if they refuse to eat and everything starts shutting down it's called failure to thrive.
My mom told my sis also that if the problems are because her kidney have actually failed she does NOT want dialysis.
I should get another update tomorrow, thanks again for all your prayers.

South Hamilton, MA

Hang tight Jen.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hugs going out to you Jen!!.. if you need to talk.. call

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hugs and prayers, Jen

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes, continued good thoughts, Jen.

Gratitude for all our vets and their families for their sacrifice.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

AMEN, Dave

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - thanks to all who have served. They should be remembered every day.

Please put out your flag, if you have not already done so.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Are they still flying @ half mast d/t Fort Hood?

South Hamilton, MA

It was supposed to be flown all over until today. I know the post office & the schools have had the half-staff flags.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Your Welcome!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thank you to all the military and their families for the support they give. I pray protction for them wherever they are overseas or at base.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I think this should be Veterans and active duty day. I understand that is the sentiment, but it always struck me as odd that the word isn't totally right. Or am I on the wrong thread?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They should just call it armed forces day. Who would think they we would ever have to pray for their safety at the base?!! Sickening.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

True dat.

Thomaston, CT

Veteran's Day always makes me sad---guess I think of DH giving up his scholarship to join the Marines-----but he did the right thing in the end.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Memorial Day makes me sadder than Veteran's Day.

South Hamilton, MA

Memorial Day (or Decoration Day) was founded to honor the soldiers of the civil war. All deaths are sad, but American vs american the saddest.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i've been to brazil many times for business - would not want to be there in a blackout!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Jen im sorry to read this about your Mom, sending hugs and prayers.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Memorial day honors those who have died in war, Veterans day honors those who have served in war, Memorial day seems more somber to me, although it has been commercialized to a degree, as all the other holidays have been.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Wow....I can't believe I have so much to catch up on! Whew!

Jen - sending my thoughts and prayers to you and your Mom!

Victor - belated birthday wishes to your Dad and DW!! Your parents are quite impressive. I guess you come from some pretty good stock!

Sherrie - how great to see you posting! How are things? Did you get all of that stuff sorted out from your auction bid???

Bill - I was laughing pretty hard about your dilemma with the neighbor's animals. Behave yourself now! LOL

Congrats to all you Yankee Fans! Sorry to hear about your BIL, Victor! We live in such a tough time in many ways! All of the tragedies in the news are so disheartening!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Please send growin some good wishes if you can. He just lost a beautiful dog to cancer. He is a very nice guy.

I heard on the radio that Eliot Spitzer will be lecturing at the Harvard School of Ethics. Amazing.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

funny

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe he'll talk about the ethical dilemma of choosing from all the lovely ladies.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh my!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

could be a good learning experience like a AA meeting

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Similar to Michael Vick lecturing about the humane treatment of animals. Hopefully people will learn, including the lecturers.

South Hamilton, MA

His parole officer would not let him leave Maine so talk is 'off'. There could be others with the same views who did not murder people who could give a talk.
