Morning Ladies,
I was here at 4:30 this morning, I forgot to set my clock back an hour :(. No one was up so I didn't bother to say anything.

Getting ready to go to Apple Hill with Steve this morning. He is coming here to move boat and utility trailer for me before we head out. Then after Apple Hill we are going to take a drive futher up into the mountains. Think I'll take my camera take some pix of Apple Hill and mountains.

I may have a date with Richard tomorrow ^_^. We'll see how he responds to my email after me telling him about my hearing problem. Two other guys ignored me after I told them. Steve called them "jerks" ^_^ and was glad that they ignored me otherwise he may not have gotten to meet me.

You probably wonder why I'm seeing other guys when I see Steve alot. Well, he is planning on going over the road come the New Year. Depending on how long some of his trips may be I might not get to go. So..................

Today is the 1 year ago that I had to put Bucky to sleep, and 12 years ago my Dear Daddy passed. So I need this day away from home.

Have a Good Day Sistahs!!!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

^_^ Richard called me this morning. Gawd what a sexy voice. We meeting tomorrow and going for a ride ^_^.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Way to go Cindy.
Thanks for the coffee Bon. Hope the weather clears for you.

Donna, how you doing? Sounds like you all are staying busy.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL, I don't know what is going on....I just got an email from Dave. So we may be going on another date. ^_^. Thank Gawd all these men live in different cities, lol.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I do hope you take your camera Cindy, love to see pictures. So many men in your life now, just please don't get the names mixed up. Ah, sounds like Dave doesn't want to lose you. Just have lots of fun!

We usually have a lot of trick or treaters, city hall has a party for the kids then on their way home they hit our house. One year I ran out of candy and ended up passing out money. Last year, no one came and here I had all this candy so I bagged it up put it in the freezer. So this year I had 12 little ones with their parents and still lots of candy left over. You can send over the butterfingers, kit kats & crunch to me. ^_^

sure thing Pegi! take some lumps off my hips, you would! I've still got some Twizzlers left over from our Hershey visit this summer!

nope, it's been spitting rain, raining hard, blowing hard and cold all day. I went out and found a few straggling rose blooms and 3 fresh gardenias. Found a soft yellow iris with huge bloom. Had to scratch my head and remember what I had there that wasn't in the rebloomer bed. It should be Again And Again. it wasn't supposed to rebloom in this zone. what a nice treat!

Took the bouquet, a bottle of Muscadine juice and some of her laundry to Mom. She was so tickled for the visit on a dreary day - she's sick of Dad watching sports on TV! Helped her put her featherbed back in the duvet cover. Dad and Randall sat back in their recliners talking computers and watching football. Mom tried to give me clothes - all too big. I should have taken them - she won't part with them otherwise. Her room is turning back into a hoarding nightmare, just like the house was. Little Sisters will have a FIT.

Sounds like everyone had a nice Halloween, great to hear. My DH is having issues this weekend, don't know what his problem is but he sure is cranky. Also been yelling at me all day whenever I talk. That's not going to work if it continues, I've had to put the little man in his place before because of this selfish crap and have no problem doing it again, he seems to think that he's the only one who matters, I think NOT! LOL

I'm ranting but it's starting to get on my last nerve.

A Lime Zinger is a very picky Elephant Ear. They will die outside if it gets too cold, obviously don't like it inside where it's warm either. It's all wilted now, so oh well, if it dies I won't get another.

Anyway, we never get trick or treaters out here so we always dress up and go out. It was perfect weather, sunny and mid 60's during the day, low 40's at night, good thing a long sleeve t-shirt was part of my outfit with my short sleeved dress, was cold but that did help. I want to post a pic but my internet won't let me tonight, says I'm having a satellite outage and obviously I'm not, so I've put them on my thumb drive and taking them to work with me tomorrow.

Trick or Treat?!?! .....Mary, who works for my husband, is a doula for more than one girl at a time..... the little 16 year old had her baby girl early yesterday morning...7 lbs. 8 oz., both are doing well. About half way through the delivery she told Mary that she is too young to be going through this! My DH asked Mary what she told the girl? Mary's answer, "That she should have thought of that about nine months ago!" Then one of the other girls Mary has been working with had a little boy yesterday afternoon!

Sounds like the full moon, made those little one's move out into the world! Hope they are all doing well?
Good night everyone!

Crissy, we will be waiting for pictures. Sometimes, when they get that way, I just leave them alone. They need their days too!

Hi Sistahs.
Will catch up with what I missed today.
Been having issues with FIL all day.. hope it's a better day tomorrow.

Good night sistahs.

Will keep you all in our prayer Jaye....try and get some rest.

I'm first again this morning. Morning Glory! will put on a pot of coffee for everyone, and after yesterday's chilling rain, think a pan of hot cocoa too. It's decidedly a hot oatmeal, brown sugar, fresh bananas morning.

Got great sleep and ready to go. started my pill regimen before 6:30, so I'll be able to eat by 8:30. couple of those bananas might make a nice bread by then!

Have irises to plant, soil to mix this morning. At my break I'm going to get some of my kitchen uncluttered, I think. When Randall's in there a lot (and he ususally is), every counter retains something and it accumulates.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Bon, thanks for the breakfast. Is that all you do, is plant Iris's. You must have thousands of them? I bet it is beautiful when they bloom? Do you sell them also, or are they all your personal garden?
Jaye, how you doing today? Hope your feling better, and not too sore. How is Murdock doing.
Still sending prayers for all those in need!
Have a great day!

Wow yesterday was such a beautiful fall day. I was surprised at how few people there were. Apple Hill is about 20 miles of different apple orchards. We walked and walked and sampled so many apples I think I've had enough fiber to last me a month. This pix is of the biggest orchard.

They have a pond there where people can fish. Steve insisted he take my picture.

Hello sistahs... friends... ladies....
I love how this room can bring smiles to our faces and though real time life may seem impossible for some of us.. there are the unexpected pictures!

Crissy, never, never grow up, please!

Cindy, you're too beautiful to settle for a lesser being.

Cookie, sorry to read of your DD losing her job. With her years of experience, I'm sure some smart lawyer will hire her.

Got a lot to do until..... ?? No pc where I'll be at......

Ladies, play nice, don't hide the Bailey's ;)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Jaye, hope your day is going ok.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jaye, don't work too hard! I will have a fresh bottle of Bailey's nice and cold in the fridge for you.
Cindy, looks like you had a great time at the orchards! The only orchards we have here are pecans! No fruits growing here, other than a few orange trees in the yards. Oh and a few cumquats, and a banana tree here and there.
Crissy, love the costumes, so cute!

Great Pictures everyone.

Jaye take care....give Kel and Murdock both big hugs for us.

Sunshine and mid fifties for a couple of days before the rain comes back.

Will check back later.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh I forgot to tell you. Steve bought me a butterfly necklace and a leather butterfly hair thingie ( i don't know what they are called). We are going back this coming Sunday to take his mom and get a crate of apples. Then Steve wants me to come to his mom's and help with making apple pies to freeze. He was asking me if I had thought about getting my Class A license ( I had a permit at one time). I told him no, then asked why? He said well then both of us could drive truck to make more money so that we could buy some property in another state (Montana, Colorado, Idaho or Oregon). So ya think he is getting serious? He told me yesterday that he likes it that I am self supportive and not lazy that I get outside and do work that needs to be done. He ex girl friend was lazy, bossy and unappreciative of things that he would do for her.

Here is a pix of us, on our way back home we stopped at this river to relax for awhile. it was getting dark. I set the camera on a rock and put it on the timer.

Sounds like he is getting serious. Just take your time, and don't rush things. You will know when it is right! Love the lake scenery, looks very peacefull!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh I told him a long time ago no living together, no marriage for at 3 or 4 years. I still want to date other guys.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, that is pretty cool, that he understands that. Most guys will go nuts when you tell them that. Good luck, I hope you find the right one!

I swanny, Jaye, how did you know Iwas having a Baileys kind of Monday?

putting on an 8 lb ham for dinner. who's bringing the yams?

for years I'd buy canned hams. They are expensive! $3.29/lb today in the paper. I didn't know how to cook a regular ham.

Then in a microwave cooking class, they showed us how to prep/precook meat for barbequeing. I've adapted it to half and whole hams, regular hams or smoked. My whole family thinks I'm a genius! They like it better than Mom's! This method removes some of the salt in the ham. the ham I'm cooking today was $1.29/lb, and will taste better than that canned bland ham!

HAM

onions (sweet or yellow ok)
lemons or lemon juice
ham
very hot water

Pat meat dry with paper toweling (removes bacteria). any size ham will do, sweet cured, smoked or regular works. Make sure your pan is larger than the ham, or you will have a mess in the oven! If presliced, this will tend to separate the slices some. The meat will be moist when cooked.

Spray a roasting pan, preferably with a shallow rack, with cooking spray (optional, for easier cleanup). In the bottom of the pan, place onion slices, depending on the size of the ham, 1/2 to 1-1/2 onion. Position the rack if available (if not, make the onion slices thick). Place whole hams with the most-fat side up. place partial ham cut side down in pan. Left over onion slices can top the meat (optional). into a 2 cup measure, add 1/4 cup lemon juice and enough very hot water to fill. pour into pan - add more water if needed to make about 1" to 1-1/2" in the pan. (For big hams, if you use as much as 2 cups more, add more lemon). Cover the roaster, or tent tightly with foil.
Cook in 350 degrees for as long as your ham directions suggest, usually around 18-20 mins. per pound. a temp gauge should hit 148 degrees in the deepest part of the ham (not touching the bone) when done. (I don't chance pork, so I always cook it a bit longer)

guess I'll have to bring my own:

Bonnie's yam recipe (sorry, this is about all I do).

fresh baked yams
wash yams. check for bad (rotten) spots and cut away if necessary. Precut aluminum foil to go around each potato (like for baked potatos). set out ready.
Oil, butter, or shortening in your hands and massage each yam, then place in middle of foil sheets. when done you'll need to clean your hands to handle the foil! then wrap foil around potatos - I like to double fold the long cut edge, squeaze around the potato, and twist the ends closed. place in oven beside the roaster/ham during the last 1.5 hours of baking.
Serve one per plate (if huge, cut in half!) and pass the butter! Yum!

canned yams = candied yams!

Drain the yams, reserve the drained syrup.
Butter a baking dish about the size to hold your drained canned yams. arrange them in the dish, can be more than one level deep. (if I'm putting this beside the roaster and space if limited, I like using a banana bread pan)
In a medium saucepan, mix in about 1/2 stick of butter, 1/4 to 1/2 cup brown and 1/2 cup orange juice per lb can of potatos; cook until reduced and thicker. Pour over potatos. (optional) garnish with thin slices of orange over top. Place in oven beside ham. Cook for at least 30 mins or more.
Optional: add any one or more: ginger, allspice, cinnamon, clove (go light on this one), nutmeg, or cardamon (go very light on that one).

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

We had yams last night, with baked chicken (looked like a ham, actually!)
mmmmmm love yams. and they have so much beta ceratine, that they're really good for you, too!
