Oh Judy how horrible that must have been, the waiting, the worry but thankfully your precious is back where she should be. Hugs!!!

Raleigh, NC

I'm catching up on reading again. taking a back saving break from irising. making progress bit by bit on both!

Jaye, I haven't been keeping up with H1N1. mostly because there's no vaccine available and I'm in high risk catagory. we have it here, though. almost kept me home from the State Fair.

Which reminds me, it was at the State Fair that Randall first realized he wanted my kids for his own. We were casually dating (well, I was) when he invited us all to the Fair. He still tells the story of piggybacking an exhausted Danny on his back all through the vast NCSU AE Finley football Stadium parking lot after being at the fair all day. He tells of watching Bevin, who decided to walk backwards, thinking she'd give that up, but she walks all the way backwards. Says he realized they were great kids and I was a great mom. You know what was really nice? His mom, Ruth, was an only child but had 22 step and half brothers and sisters and 2 stepdads. She gave him all the pointers from her first hand experience of how to be a good stepdad. He was awesome at it! I have blessed that angel MIL of mine many many times.

ah me. care to shape apple dumpling recipe? hmmmm? pleasssseeee?

gotta go. sunshine's still a'callin'

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh Judy!!!! that is great Skittles is back. I was in the position once with my Rodan (Mexican Redheaded Amazon) He had spent the night in a 40 foot pine tree. Yea it was very cold I thought he was a goner for sure. I even took down his perch and cage, when my boyfriend returned home with him. I never let Larry take him outside again, lol. He never flew away from me. I took him everywhere with me.

Speaking of the H1N1, all of our schools are getting the vaccines next week, hallelujah!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Bon an old printer isn't going to be compatible with Vista and you'll never get it to print. Maybe if you go to the website of the brand name of the printer they may have a driver you can install but it probably won't be free.

I've never had a bird, just a dog when I was growing up and now a cat.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Joyce, I want that recipe, too!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Because I work in a Medical Research building (with a Lab), they're all over the H1N1 vaccine!
I get it free, and smaller line-ups..... so I'm going on Saturday to the local hospital to get it.
They're making it available for 7 days only, and it ends on Sunday (at the hospitals, for staff, anyway). I think they'll continue providing it other places for other people though. Some are waiting 6 to 7 hrs in line!! The province didn't want us to administer it, although we're setup to give all kinds of injections and take collections, too.
Ah well, the bureaucracy of it all............. they want all the administration of this for themselves lol We only have 4 clinics that administer for all of Calgary, and a 5th one for High Risk people (elderly, sick, wheelchair, etc).

~Susan~

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Only high risk people are getting the H1N1 vaccine here anyway, they say they're going to run out and therefore a healthy adult doesn't get it. Doesn't bother me, wasn't going to get it anyway, just means that I won't have to argue with the office personnel about it who don't need it either and are scared to death of every little thing. If there's nothing to worry about why not find something to worry about it, make it up if we have to!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hee Hee,

I'm meeting another guy this Saturday ^_^. I don't know about this one though, lol. His name is Thomas, he's 49,bald, quite stocky, seems kind of shy. Lives in one of my favorite towns, has a log cabin that sits on a lake, has an old convertable roadster, he's a carpenter, likes to go out dancing, likes to camp and fish. No Harley, but his brother has 2 so maybe..........

I'm still in touch with Steve. We see each other about every 2 weeks. We are suppose to go to Apple Hill this weekend but I'm not holding my breath.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Cindy I missed something, what happened to Dave, I've been wondering about you. You know being married is really really cool but I miss going out and meeting people. I don't have any friends here and am in dire need of some girlfriends and wondering how in the world a chick in her mid 30's can meet local females that I would get along with to go shopping with, have lunch with, you know the usual chick thing.
Did you get your dinner? I know I was out of touch during the conference and I think that's when I lost touch.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

so, what? You might go out with Thomas' brother for the harley? LOL j/k love, j/k!!
It's my "lunch bit" (yes, i said bit, cuz that's all I get, a bit, instead of the hour I'm supposed to get lol)

I'm grabbing lunch while I can, cuz it's time to take down another teleconference (TC) at 1:00, and it's already 12:30.....
Yes, keeping busy looks good on me LOL I have certificates to make/print, and get out new CD...... I sure hope they hire someone quick, or at least find someone who'll setup the equipment!

Anyway I'm not answering the phone here, cuz I need to eat sometime LOL I'm hiding out on DG! ^_^

~Susan~

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Crissy - I have the same prob, only for a 50-something LOL
People are all so busy, busy, busy!

Blast. Pharmacy just called. my doc sent my prescription to pharmacy in west Cary. I'm in NNE Raleigh - it's going to be nearly 20 miles through heavy city traffic to get my thyroid meds. all other pharmacies are out, this one can compound it.

got an idea.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello all. I am using my laptop. It runs real slow, so i will be lurking more than posting, till I get my desktop fixed! So soory skittles got out, but SO Glad HE IS BACK HOME. I hope you have his wings clipped?
Yeah, it sucks when everything quits on you. First my sewing machine, then the hardrive on my computer.
Let me tell you all, the dell computer tech, told me to tell everyone to turn off the automatic updates on your computer. That is what fried my hard drive. He told me if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So many of the automatic updates are made for certain computer, and when it gets to one like mine, it was too much, and crashed the hard drive! So first thing when I get it fixed, will be to turn off automatic updates!
I just found out, my sons sony laptop, did the same things last week.
Just be careful.
LK

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Well that certainly sucks. What's your idea?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LK that's a bum, I've never heard of that, going to ask the IT guys here about that, we have our auto updates on here at work and mine are on at home.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hi y'all. Please excuse my absence, kinda hurt my hip getting in and out of the box truck.
Thank God you all don't need a room monitor.

Will return as soon as I can sit longer in this chair.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Update on Dave....I ended it......He was non responsive for over two weeks. So last night I emailed him. I thanked him for the first date and all the flirty emails he sent (they made me laugh) and told him that even thoug I think we could have fun together I don't think a relationship between us would last because of our age differences even though they are just numbers to him 11 years is a big gap. He is the type who wants to party with his buddies more than be with a woman. He said he was sorry that he hadn't contacted me that he has been really busy plus his 15 year old dog had been sick and he had to bury her/him yesterday. He is pretty shook up about as the dog was his best friend. I told him that I was sorry to hear that and shared the Rainbow Bridge poem with him. So I don't know if I will hear from him again or not.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh Jaye, so sorry your hurting! Put some ice on it, maybe that will help! Wish I knew what to think of the crash, I just know it is strange that my sons laptop, and my new desk top had the same thing happen within a week of each other! My desk top is only 10 months old! The hard drive never should have fried this early!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Cindy was he 11 years older? DH Dave is 11 1/2 years older than me so you never know about that. I know you don't, but don't judge on just age. As far as you dating Dave goes, he seemed unresponsive from the get go, wanted to flirt but when it came down to talking... from what you've said he doesn't seem like a talker and probably not a doer either. Sounds like he's an "all show no go" kinda guy, and reading that his dog was his best friend just enforces what my opinion is. Dog's don't do much and they sure don't talk much... LOL

Did you ever get that candlelight dinner with Steve?

Jaye you can't be hurting like that! Only I do things like that! LOL

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

LK I really hate it when they want to do updates. I've had my dell computer for 5 years and so far so good. Most of the goof ups I make myself. I'm always worrying about running out of memory, etc. If that were to happen I would have to yell for help. I wish all these techs would all agree on one thing. Just like doctors I guess, what one says another may disagree. Mine is a desk top too. I think DH wouldn't mind it too much if something happened since I'm on it all the time. Sure is an addicting habit.

We had really strong winds and I'm wondering if I'll ever get all the pine needles raked up. Winds have died down now and the sun is out. Should have nice weather for the next week, no sign of rain either.

Don't forget daylight savings time is this weekend. Really don't like to set the clocks back an hour, isn't Ben Franklin the one that started this?

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Crissy, i'm 11 years older than him.

And yes I did get that candle light dinner with Steve and more hee, hee.

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Donna, tell your babies they certainly bring smiles to my old wrinkled face!! Creativity has no price, girl!!!

LK, remember when mine was fried too. It happened from the automatic MS update too! But not from the size of the file, but more like there are 'ports' where virus could sneak in :(

Got to pipe in here... Cindy... sistah... Kel is 11 years younger than me.
It's all a matter of the will. When there's one, there's a way;) Apparently Dave lost out!

Ok.. back to the heating pad..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

'evening sistahs!
Well, it looks like I'm gonna be on ColdFX for a few days anyway.......
we had a fire drill, and I'm the Emergency Warden. When the slow alarm started, I got my coat on, then the orange vest lol
Well, we had to take the 4 flights of stairs (not a prob, but I'm still so tired....), then stand out in the chilly air for 20 min, then back up the stairs. I guess my lungs got a little frosted, so I've now got a bronchial cough.... sounds awful, and my chest is so tired. I guess from being run down - lots of OT hours, little sleep, then the chilly air & exercise, I was ripe for a cough...
No, it's not H1N1 !! No panicking, ladies lol
But, I'm taking the day off work, drinking lots of hot fluids (ginger tea w/honey), and resting. There was nothing going on at work, anyway! (just lots of office work, is all LOL) No meetings, no teleconferences, etc.

I'm keeping quiet and still.... that should help. It also means No Choir Practice tonight. I get bronchitis and laryngitis too easily to strain my voice. And no one wants to hear my cough lol Brings down the house, it does!!

Raleigh, NC

read up to my last post, but my eyes are crossing, I'm so sleepy.

Got to tell y'all about this pharmacy. Yup it was 43 miles round trip. through city, but I-540 helped, except the traffic jam part. it took 1hr40 mins.

This is a tiny pharmacy that only does custom drug compounding. They don't take insurance, but they give you a form to submit yourself to the insurer.

The pharmacist explained that my doc has me on basically the same drug as before, but this time in a timed release form, so my body doesn't get hit with all the hormone in the morning. that would explain why I usually get going around 11, when I'm through my regimen. He also says I won't have the "dead at 5pm" cycle either. They hope this helps the headaches. it was between $5-$10, it's now $38.

Then he explained that, if I tolerate it well, he will mail it to me, only the cost of postage (cheaper than gas), sell it in quantity at a discount, refill it automatically by mail. THEN we discussed my energy cycle. He's going to recommend some "thyroid care" suppliments OTC, but not today. These will help my waning thyroid, not just replace the hormone it doesn't produce. I was so exhausted I wondered aloud if I'd stay awake driving home, so he said call him back on the suppliments when I could pay better attention. He gave me two sheets of info on the new drugs, and it's not in science-ese, I understand them! I was so impressed!

made a meatloaf and popped it in the oven before leaving. Ruth watched it and took it out since I was still driving. She started green beans and garlic mashed potatos when I was 5 mins. out. took 5 mins. outside to clear off compost "mud" from the driveway so Randall wouldn't slip in it at midnight when he returned. No sooner was I done but he drove in, early! He was so impressed with all my potted irises, he even counted them! We went in to a nice home cooked meal and it's been a great day.

Jaye, what are you doing? trying to keep up with me? I'm trying to keep up with YOU, Lady! please watch those hips!!! high trucks are NOT made for us little gals, are they? LOL

LK, I'm just impressed your dell lasted 5 years! never had one make it that far.

Ya know, I miss working. i miss being around people all day. Y'all make me realize with all the work and co-worker "issues" that I should be counting my blessings, not feeling sorry for myself.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

btw - guess this cold of mine means we won't be going to the Hallowe'en party, but Bob says he would dress up for pictures, anyway lol
Don't know when that will be, but we'll see ^_^

Going to go to bed early, and catch up on some sorely missed sleep.........

Take care of your back, Jaye!!

~Susan~

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Ooooooo Cindy, and more.... Yay!!
It really does depend on personality more than age, and different people are more mature and different ages, then you have my dad who has never matured! LOL I am learning that the older I get the less age matters, but then I think of this: If I dated a man who was 11 years younger than me he would be 25!

Techies don't agree because there is so much stuff and to each his own, and what's worse is 9 times out of 10 they are all correct about whatever topic. Some people like Internet Explorer, others like Firefox. Personally I'm a Firefox person. The only computer that I've ever bought is a Dell, I have a laptop that is 9 years old and it still runs. Computers are just like anything else, you have to learn how a computer runs and it's not easy learning that.

Way Too Cute Donna!! Jaye you do NOT have an old wrinkled face! Stop that thinking or I'm going to tell Kel on you! LOL

Susan I have asthma and am always getting bronchitis in the fall and winter, and have a bronchial cough all year long, it's very deep, dry, and hackey, and wakes the dead! Glad you took (are taking) the day to recoup.

The time release medicines are a lot better but they do cost more. I take time release whenever I can, but I usually only take muscle relaxers, alka seltzer, Tylenol, stuff like that.

When we moved here to AR I was going to take 6 months off and not work, well that lasted 3 weeks and I was so stir crazy and got real testy Dave told me I needed to go back to work, so I started looking, and when we had been here 2 months I started my job. LOL

I started a Stuffed Animal Swap!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It was not my dell, that lasted so long. I wish! Most computers here last maybe 2 yeqrs if I am lucky? Pretty sad you pay so much for them, and then if they last that long, they are outdated!
Glad you got your meds Bon.
Donna, why are you all dressed for halloween. it is not till this week-end? Love the little flower fairy, she is so adorable.
Jaye, hope your feeling better in the morning after a good nights sleep?
Susan, hope your feeling better in the morning too.
Stacey where you hiding at?
Cindy, sounds like you are having fun with the guys, just be careful please? We just worry about ya.
Good night all.

Crissy - I have GOT to send you that ColdFX!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Bonjon, it is my dell computer that I've had for 5 years and it works just fine, oh sometimes I would like to throw it out the window when I can't figure something out. Like yesterday I wanted to make a copy of a document on my scanner and couldn't figure out why I couldn't do anything with it. Well, I guess I must have pulled out the plug from back of computer and once I got it back in it worked fine. I keep saying, "one of these days I'm going to straighten out all those darn cords", but that day hasn't come yet. Just like the energizer bunny, keeps on going. Maybe I should start putting some $$ away so I'll have a down payment on new computer if/when this ones dies.

Well it is the wee hours of the morning and I'm getting sleepy. If I go to bed too early I wake up around 3 AM and can't go back to sleep.

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Morning,
Oh those sweet rolls look so good yum yum

I finally finished digging the drainage ditch 130 feet long. Now comes the fun part, putting in the black weed paper, chicken wire, and cementing small river rock. Going to transplant dahlias and glads today get them mulched. Then have to pick DGD up from school, minimum day.

Steve has been working big time and is not having fun. He is so looking forward to Sunday.

Look what I found, I have never seen fabric panels like this before. Hand painted batik panels! I am in so much trouble! ^_^

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Sorry I'm just getting back to you guys.....here is the requested recipe!

Apple Dumplings

1 pkg crescent rolls 1/2 c. butter
2 apples 3/4 c. orange juice
1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. sugar

Peel the apples and quarter them. Place 1/4 on each crescent roll. Sprinkle with the sugar/cinnamon mixture and fold edges over the apple.

In a saucepan, melt 1 stick butter, 3/4 cup orange juice and 1/2 c. sugar. When the butter is melted, pour this mixture over the bundles of apples and rolls. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes, basting them twice during cooking. (I set my timer for 10 minutes, basted, set it for 10 minutes, basted and then let it bake the final 10 minutes. The juice makes a glaze on the top of the dumplings and they look and smell awesome. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

I didn't serve this with anything and they were still really yummy!

Is that right above - 1/4 cup of cinnamon??? Or is it a typo? Please help -- I'm having company and these are perfect...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Good Morning all. Boy, did I sleep in! Feels good to get a good night's sleep!!!
Yesterday aft, the company had a Fire Drill, and as I'm the Emergency Warden, I grabbed my coat and orange vest and went out. Got a little overheated while they decided when we'd go out. Then when we went out, I got a bit of frosted lungs - it's That Cold brrrrrrrr.

Well, 1/2 hr after we got back, I started to feel funny, and when I got home I was doing the "bronchial cough" thingie........
I know I got run down from lack of sleep, overtime, etc, so I expect I was ripe for a cold. It just came on so sudden though.
THEN, last night I read the card everyone got in the mail re: H1N1, and it says a first symptom is an sudden onset of a cold.........oh oh.........trying not to "borrow trouble" but there's a lot of this going around, and if I get any more symptoms, I'm going to the Diagnostic Lab they have for people who feel they may have symptoms of H1N1.
For now, I'll just treat it like other broncial colds I've gotten in the past.
When I lived in Winnipeg, I got one every winter for months on end. Haven't, since I moved to Calgary, in 2006 though, so this is surprising in itself.........

Anyway - just a normal bronchial cold, right?!?! That's what I'm going on, and with my looking after it at the onset, I'll be juuuuuuuuuuust fine!!

~Susan~
