Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

there are many different kinds of mulches out there.
I have seen them at Lowes. I love to go to Lowes.
A lot better than Walmart.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

We are supposed to have rain, for the next 2 days.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
there is a rose, they call black night, would that work, I will have to goggle to see what other plants are Black, if I look in the 10.000 county living Books I have I could probably help you with, oh that will give something to do when it gets cold
Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

That sounds Great. I have a Superstition Iris. It is nearly black. I love that thing.
There is a black hollyhock too. i believe I got seed of them, one of the girls sent.
Charleen

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
they know me at lowes too well, I always look for the broken bags & mark downs, & if it isn't marked down I still ask for a discount, usually I get it, I spend a lot of money over there, oh they do price matching, if you find it at HD they will beat that price by 10%
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

There is dainthus "Sooty", that has a a darkred/ black bloom, and it self sews and black ball corn flower.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
sounds like you have your thinking cap on, have you checked the plant files here for black plants, I usually try for an orange garden, but most of them are only annuals
Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Alright, girls. We are cooking now. I corn flower same as bachelor buttons? Thompson Morgan will send
me a catalog and they always have some idea. they have some nice seeds. I have black columbine
plants I should move. I got a lot of seed from them.
Charleen

Hamilton, OH

Dee
you have your thinking cap on also, next year I am doing things different, this year, it seemed like I had more Pink Brugs than any other color, next year it's dark yellow to Orange, if anyone ever come up with a lavender Brug not Datura they will make a fortune
Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Maybe Elizabeth, we can do that too. It will give us something to do next spring and summer and we can plan it this
Winter. Even if we don't do it we can think about it. Don't you have an Orange Brug?? Now that would be pretty.
I have some red lillies, I'm going to have to dig up next year. All colors to try.
Charleen

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Have they ever tryed crossing a datura with a brug, elizabeth? To try to get that color. Or is it
impossible to do it??
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Yes, charleen, the same.Charleen, did I send you an illustis Elephant ear...that would work, too...It has a lot more black than green.

My different thing for next year, is making the beds outside the fence, for the brugs.

dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Goodnight Girls, talk to you tomarrow.
Charleen

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
there was a lady, that had crossed them come up with datmansia, I never heard the outcome, if it worked or not, if it had they would have it registered at BGI, I would think, they also have some vulcancola's trying to achieve it
Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

If it makes it. I planted them all in the btls. in peat. I was afraid to
leave them in peat I didn't want them to die. I have never used Peat before.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I had a couple this year, the one is white the other one was purple, I used to grow the double purple, they take up too much space, so I just want Brugs, the white one I had is self seeding, once it starts growing you can't get rid of it
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I sprayed mine this year, with round-up after they bloomed, and they still came back..lol....so, I dug them out the best I could.
dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
that sounds like a good idea, have you ever made elderberry jelly, it's great, I use too make all kinds of jelly when the girls were young, I haven't made any since I started growing Brugs, yeah I am addicted, you can tell
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
so you know what I am talking about, they are hard to get rid of, also if you grow them under your Brugs they compete for the nutrients, thats why I only like growings Brugs
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

No,...the only kind of jelly that I have ever made was strawberry jam. I just planted the elderberries this past summer...late. I know what you mean about the brugs. That's the only new plants that I plan on adding to the yard, and I'm sure that I will have to clear out some plants before it's over with for more brugs..lol
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

What about other annuals like petunias and other groundcovers, at the base of brugs in pots, do they rob them too?
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
it's different with Brugs in pots, I don't think that would bother them, you aren't going to put yours in the ground?
I have always put mine in the ground, this spring I will really ammend the soil before planting
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I am going to put all I can in the ground, but if I run out of room, I will put some in pots...Most will definately be in the ground.
Dee
Elizabeth, I think I am gonna hit the sack...Night...Talk tomorrow.
