۞ Sweet Interruptions ۞169
It's another type of beans, LK. Delicious. TCome in cans too. But I reconstituted the dry ones.
I add kidney beans to the chilli too and lots of cumin.
Also serve fresh chopped cilantro to the serving.
Chevy's offers black beans, along with the refried. They are good
Keep forgetting to tell you guys this. Last night mom and I were standing in the kitchen when all of a sudden there was a flash of light. Like someone took a picture. I said what was that and mom just frowned at me. All of a sudden BOOM!! thunder right over the top of our house. Mom screamed and grabbed her ears and took off running for her bedroom. I got to laughing so hard I peed my pants ^_^ Mom's little dog took off too don't know where she went, under the bed i think. I couldn't stop laughing, but mom didn't think it was funny.
tsk tsk tsk cindy - laughing at your mumsie like that LOL
(Caught her by surprise, eh?!)
~Susan~
It's a wonder she didn't come after you with a paddle!!!
Oh wait.. you can outrun her now :D
Hi Susan! How's your day at the office? Through with your tote yet?
Chilli's done and Kel got a call that will delay our supper. Think I'll just go ahead and help myself to a cup.
LOL-that is kinda funny CIndy;)
Tante-yeah right-you had me snorting ice cream with :
Stacey, now he owes you 12 belated b'day celebrations! Slate the calender for once a month, and when the next b'day comes around he would have learned to do it in a grand style ;)
Not gonna hold my breath on that one!!LOL
LK I can't believe you live in Texas and don't know about black beans. They are in a lot of Southwestern food too.
I make this all the time: Another one of my goofy original recipes.
3/4 cup of Lundberg Country Wild Rice Mix
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 TSB olive oil
Cook for 40 to 50 minutes until the rice is done.
Then add:
1 15 oz. can of black beans, rinsed and drained
2 TBS chopped cilantro
1/4 tsp. cumin
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. salt
A handful of scallions
1 tsp of chili powder or more to taste.
Stir and heat through. This is great wrapped up like a burrito.
Sorry to hijack the thread with cooking stuff.
Guess I will have to go look for some of the black beans! All the recipes sound good.
Cindy, I can just see your Mom getting scared to death, and running for cover, and you laughing so hard to pee your pants! LOL! That must have been a site to see?
I used to love this black bean thing Bush had a couple years ago-had all the goodies like in Juanita's recipe, but came straight outta the can. I would grill chick and eat it with chick, the beans, torts and sour cream-YUMMM
Hello Sistah's All,
OMG, Day was simply devine! Sunny, 69!! yay finally Indian Summer, for a couple days anyway.
Recipe's look yummy!
Speaking of which..I finally looked up on how to make fry bread.
LOL, it's been so very long and I have watched my sister over and over, and i know she added a few other secret ingredients...but since she doesn't use measuring utensils, I have no idea other than seeing her hands filled with all the stuff Hmmmn, think she'll send me her hand? ROFLOL...you know me in the kitchen, scared to cook.
So, I will brave this up tomorrow, yippee get to use my sistah apron too ooo, cheesy grin there.
Funny Story Cindy...hahah, thats some serious laughter you had.
Yep, Thank you Joyce for the update on Kathy.
Kathy, prayers going up all is successfull.
OMG, Skittles can say 2 more phrases! she says Come Here and Whats up! Waiting for her to say Hey Baby and did I tell you she even giggles, hehehe, so cute.Well got to get something done for dinner.
I hope you enjoyed your day!
haven't seen Crissy in a few days????? Anyhooo Crissy...It's snowing like crazy on the summit and Borel. That is really early for us.
evening ladies
Cindy thats too funny. I have been surprised like that before but normally Bella knocks me over when it happens now running the other way...
Black beans.. Im not much of a bean person but I copied the recipie for Max.. I make chili alot for him and Tony.. Tristens picky like me.. LOL
Was a pretty day here today too and I enjoyed it from the steps out front f work a few times.. Looks like we will have great weather this week and hopefully Thursday I can get a a few things done.. Talked with mom and shes very happy to be home but planning a june trip back in already..
Big announcement.. Tony is going to his first dance on Friday! and hes meeting a girl there.. OMG Im lost.. Seems like he is growing up soo fast.. This girl is about 2 ft taller than him and well endowed.. ugghh He walks her half way home from school when its warm enough that we alow him to walk instead of picking him up..
Anyway .. Its getting late so I better get to bed for a full nights sleep tonight. Im working and taking lunch at the shop since Max is working on his grandmothers farm for the next few weeks/ months for his family.. too cold to walk anywhere to far from work ..
Huggs
Donna
Morning Ladies,
Coffee is on. Do you remember that fire we had here about two months ago. Where serveral homes were lost about 350 acres burnt. Investergators have determined that it was deliberately set because of the way it burnt. They suspect that there were 3 people involved in it. Our neighbor above us, her brothers house burnt and his 5 dogs were inside :(.
Oh Cindy, how sad is that??? And to think it was lit deliberately.
How are you doing? A question for you - have you been making any candles lately? My two are just about gone and now the only ones I'll use are yours!!!! Let me know okay?
I'm here, I'm here! Conference and RU took up all my time, now I am sore sore sore since Saturday!
LOL about your mom running for cover, that was a close strike. Used to be deathly afraid of thunderstorms but living back here you kinda get used to them. We get close strikes like that quite often when there's thunderstorms coming through.
Juanita I copied that recipe, I have left over ingredients from my enchiladas that need to be used up.
They'll catch them Cindy. I don't understand why someone would set a fire like that. Crazy I guess.
That is way way early for snow, it was way way early when it would snow on my birthday. We're already 20 degrees below normal here, and still 200% above on rainfall.
So Cindy, what's going on with you and your men?
Yes Barb, I am still making candles. As a matter of fact I will be ordering some wax and starting my Christmas line.
Well Crissy let's see........ Dave has been really busy working on a tractor. He has been working on it every night after work and weekends too. It belongs to a friend and he needs it running really bad. He sent me an email saying we will be getting together SOON! lol. Steve and I talk every day and we are going out Wednesday. I'm thinking it is the candle light dinner he promised me ^_^. Will give you more details on Thursday. I have been getting other "Hello's" on one of the sites that I belong too, but they live too far away, over 100 miles although they are willing to come up here to meet. So I keep putting them off. I think 2 guys enough to handle right now. With everything else I've got to do around here.
That's fun though, juggling men, and men are so dense sometimes they could meet each other and would just start talking about sports LOL No that wouldn't be good, I'm man bashing today.
Thanks for the update! Hope it IS that candlelight dinner and HOPE he doesn't back out again.
Good morning everyone!
Thanks for the recipe Juanita. Me love them black beans, and the chilli was gone last night! As predicted, we had a fart fest in bed :D
Stacey, Bush still makes them. Ranch style black beans, I think.
Judy, Judy... I wish you success with recreating your sister's flat bread. When you do, please share with us the recipe. My mum had her own Malay type of fried flat bread, using just plain flour and ghee (clarified butter). First, she makes a dough, pinch off about a golf ball size, roll it out into a thin disk, then from one side, she rolls the disk into a tight cigar. Then she upright the 'cigar' and 'smack' it down. She'd flatten it out again, and then fry it. That bread will turn out crunchy with layers!
Woooohoooooo!!!! Tony's a man! Donna, to him that girl's the world... no matter what her physique is.
Cindy, arson is a federal offense. Those perpetrators should get life in prison! They're not crazy, Crissy...just evil!!
Welcome back Crissy! Did you get enough plants at the RU? Can't believe it's already that cold in Arkansas.
Men bashing :D Just bash the Stupid Men, Crissy!
Last night, Kel insisted a frost will be here this morning. Kel and I went around and spread bedsheets over the tops of the remaining tropicals. When the sheets ran out, we draped them with trashbags. This morning, no frost! In fact I told him the weather channel predicted it's gonna be in the 40's. When I asked him which weather channel he tuned in to, he said an old customer told him that the way the moon looks last night, a frost is imminent..... sigh.....
Well this morning, got a call from my sister in France that she'll be flying to Singapore.
I was supposed to go to France next month, and the two of us then travelled to Singapore to visit the rest of our siblings. Being that Murdock needs Kel all plans are cancelled.
LK!!! Cookie!!!! Maid M!!!! Wake up!!!
Back to my real world now... lots more sewing to do..
wish I'm like Barb.. nothing last minute!

Picture of one of the 3 latest rescues.
This is Possum. She is blind. When we first got her, she's skull and bones.. so pathetic.. no flesh on her cheeks neither. I couldn't take a picture of her then.
Now she's filled up nicely. Got a very acute sense of hearing and smell to make up for the lost vision.
She knows her way around the house and is paper trained.
Juanita.. your aww moment fix :D
Here's Farrah. She's always sneezing and shivering. Antibiotics doesn't help much, so I started using socks to warm her up.
That helps, apparently her body temp is lower than normal.
The older cat is Rimau. He's 13 now, accompanied me on my move here all the way from Louisiana. He's such a 'teddy bear', tolerant of all the new kitties.
Farrah can surely pass as his offspring. No chance of that! He's fixed!
I forgot to mention that not only were 60 homes lost, 3 or 4 people also died in the fire. So they will also get punished for that.
Jaye they are adorable. Bless you and Kel for taking such good care of them. My son has two rescue cats too. They both only have three legs. Each one lost one from infection when they were born. Bill is missing a front leg and Bob is missing a back one. To watch them get around is amazing. They can move just as fast as any other cat I've seen. It fascinates me the way nature can compensate.
I am up but have been busy. Decided to get some chores done before I got on the computer today. Just about caught up with my swap sewing--mailed a bunch of things yesterday but not the tote. Need to work on Halloween costumes for the girls but having trouble with the youngest. She has something in mind from a Barbie movie but won't let me see the CD afraid I won't return it. Fat chance!!! LOL Don't care to watch just see what they are wearing and it's over.
Jaye, the kitties are adorable. Good thing Kim doesn't see them or she might be begging to adopt. We have enough at the moment--older ones are getting cranky so we are at full catpacity for now.
Weather is warming up some but night and early mornings are nice and cool. Love it--have my windows open and a nice downy comforter on the bed!!! Great sleepy--for a change.
Well, hope everyone is having a good day. Kathy if you are lurking--sending a huge hug your way --please take care of yourself.
Where is Tink today? Sure wish BJ and Phyllis would appear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
I sent a dmail to Phyllis a few days ago, and she wrote back, saying that Bj is busy with the new students, and Ohyllis is busy with school. They are doing fine, just busy!
I had PT first thing this morning, and just got home, now I need to get my sewing machine back out, and get my tote bag done.
Jaye, those kitties are so precious. It is wonderful to see them nice and helathy again. Just makes me sad they some people can not be responsible enough to spay or neuter their animals, to keep this from happening. We have so many strays here too, and no animal control to stop them.
Cindy, sorry to hear about the people and animals losing their lives from the wild fires. I do hope they catch the people responsible and prosecute them.
Crissy, glad to see you back, tell us more about the round up please?
Have a great day ladies!
Thank you Barb.
Bill and Bob must have their own reality show!! Yes I agree, these kitties may have their own disabilities, but that don't stop them from moving around.
Well I'll say this Maid M. Fat chance of Kim getting one of them!! LOL!!
Papa Kel is attached to all and we had some offers (to be outdoors cats), but he rather have them all around here. Thank God we do have lots of space outside, and far from the road.
Share with us pics of the girls in their costumes, will ya? Good luck on making one that will please Abbi!
Yah LK.. we figured BJ must be busy. She could take one minute to just say Hi.. kinda miss her. Wonder if she liked her stuffed envelope.
Then Phyllis had been busy with her RU too, right?
Same here.. all these rescues were left on the side of the road by idiotic, irresponsible humans. These humans should NOT reproduce.
Unfortunately, there are no No Kill animal shelters here.
Trisha... Laura... how's the weather down there?
Back to work!
LOL, okay Kel sounds like my sister and that is why she has 28!!! Has a large (10 acres) area but says no--they must be inside. Now I love my kitties but that is 24 more than I can handle inside!!!
Oh Abbigail is the easy one to please this year--a witch complete with green face. Her Dad can't believe after so many years of cutesy costumes, this is what she wants. It is the 4yo that is giving me the fit--gotta figure out how to get that CD just to see what she is talking about. LOL
Thanks Linda Kay about the update on Phyllis and BJ--sure do miss those 2, that is for sure. Them Kathy (but understand with her health problems) and the fairy coming back is wonderful. Haven't seen Janice on this thread in a while but I know she is extremely busy learning her new machine and sewing---are we all busy in that area.
Well, this isn't getting my tote finished so back to the work table.
Hehehehe... ahhhhh if not for the totes.. we won't be indoors!!!!
Thanks a bunch Jaye!! Little possum is so cute. Looks like she needs to grow into her ears though. :0)
Crissy, glad you can use the recipe. I've been making a lot of things up as I go here lately. Some are keepers, some not.
Been outside tearing up dead plants until I couldn't take it anymore. I'm just beat right now. Had the mother of all physicals yesterday and it looks like I might live another year. :0).
Behave yourselves this PM ladies. I'll check in later.
Juanita
Jaye you are such a good mama to the fur babies. There are 4 neighborhood cats that think this is their home now. They wait for the garage door to open, they know where the bag of food is.
Going to be another hot day but did get a couple screens put up over the sweet peas I planted hoping the cats figure out that space is MINE.
The fires don't get close to us, but I know most of them are arson related. So much is destroyed and I feel so bad that people lose their home and everything they owned.
Have to quit playing and get busy, since Dave's Garden appeared in my life nothing else gets done.
hahahaha Pegi - I'm sooooooo with you on that. DG is my life's blood (almost lol)
That, and FB.....(did I just admit to being addicted to FB? yuppers!!)
Now, it's back to work lol..... well, maybe I should take more than 1/2 hr of my 1 hr break lol
back to needlework it is, then (tote)
~Susan~
Donna-how old is Tony again?? Aww-a girlfriend-how cute;) WE MUST have pics-LOL
Tante-I've seen those beans, but they aren't the same ones I'm talking about. When we lived in CA they had them-haven't seen them since moving to MI. They had one that was black beans-almost like a Caribbean style, then they had two that were with pinto beans-I forget their flavors-and they were all great-a mainstay in our pantry. Those kitties are too cute!! I love that little Farrah-are her eyes OK? The one looks funny in the pic.
I know mom lurks more than posts. She reads I;m sure almost every day, but she isn't a frequent poster really.
Auntie M-why don't you just get the name of the movie and rent it or go look at the store and check out the back-there are usually a couple of pics on there. Since the little one just can't part with her DVD for fear it will not find it's way home;)
Cindy-that is horrible-an attestment to the cruel and evil that reside within certain souls.
Well, I had a couple of nice surprises yesterday. I had 3 requests for additional information for 3 jobs, I had my BFF from France call me and we chatted. She is Hispanic, born in the US, and her husband of about a year now is Romanian and they live in France. It is kinda funny-she is pregnant-due like Dec 8, and they had to find a name that sounded the same in English, Spanish (a lot of her family only speaks it), French and Romanian (all of his family only speaks this). So Nathan it will be. They just bought a new apartment and the funniest thing is that her and I were most excited over the fact that she has a full size frig and freezer now. Most places in Europe (unless they are higher priced) just have a smaller dorm style fridge. It was the thing she hated most about their last place and the thing I couldn't get used to. I mean who wants to grocery shop like every other day cuz your tiny fridge can't hold anything.
Then I got a call from a friend I haven't seen in several years and haven't talked to in a couple years. We were friends when I was like 19-20. Her and I talked for like 2 hrs. She has 3 kids and a step daughter. She and I were talking about the fact that her 12 yr old step daughter has a pregnant girl in her class that is due in the next couple weeks-her and I were both icking over this-grody. Child barely outta diapers (I know total exaggeration) and now she's going to have a baby!! What the heck!!
So it was nice to talk to and reconnect with two friends that have meant a lot to me over the years.
It sound slike everyone is keeping very busy doing something..
Jaye your kitties are very lucky to have you and Kel .. We have lots of tsrays around here in our nieghborhhod but Bella runs them off unless they are orange.. Those she likes.. lol
Wondered where Bj had gone and forgot about the new students.. Hope she can check iin soon along with Phyllis too..
Stacey glad to hear you had a wonderful day! I love re-connecting with old friends.. One of my friends from Art school showed up Sunday with her husband and 4 children.. We dont see eachother often but once they were here I made dinner for all of us and they stayed until almost 10 that night.. We were going over m yrt tablets and rememberin the golden days of school.. Was alot of good times with her - even her hubby was around then although we actually dated then for a short period.. Wasnt a match but they were perfect for eachother.. Best of all we are all still friends.
Cindy.. I didnt know those fires were so close.. Glad to know you kept safe but its still to bad that some people dont know any better.. what a shame..
As for Tony .. well he will be 13 in April and he really is my little man.. we cut his hair today and he figured out his outfit for the dance.. Nothing too flashy just nice jeans a whiite t-shirt and a button up long sleeve dress shirt for over the T.. I snapped a few pictures but still need to update the pc before I can upload them because the drivers are not on here yet..
Well better run for now..
Huggs
Donna
hey there, y'all.
had a great day today. although in truth I slept until afternoon, I still did TWO WHOLE HOURS in the garden! that's a lot at one time for me. that's improvement. got a whole bunch of stuff potted up for winter.
now can barely hold my eyes open. Tomorrow is State Fair, so I'll check back in Thursday. right now I'm off to go check up on about the past 10 rooms....
Am back! After black bean chilli last night, we avoid another farty party and it's seafood tonight. Nope, not fried catfish, but crab legs.
Can't really eat too much of that 'cause I get an allergic relaction to it.
So, I'll be hitting the Benadryl soon.
Juanita, Possum's ears are her eyes. You should see them oscillate whenever she hears one of us. And if you call her, she knows precisely where to go.
So you had a good visit with friends Stacey. You're right about the limited space in those European apartments.
When my sister and her husband lived in Paris, the apartment could only hold 'mini' appliances. Since they moved to Nice and purchased a larger apartment, she was thrilled to be getting a full size fridge, a washing machine, and a freezer!!! With 4 kids, she truly needs a break from daily trips to the market.
They still dry their clothes on a clothes line on the balcony. If it's snowing or weather's bad, poor Alex had to sacrifice his room.
Now she's trying to get her DH invest in an airconditioner. Somehow, the temps in the summer there has been getting higher than 80's.
I still think 16 is too young to have a baby...moreover 12 :( Poor child.
There you are Pegi! Cats know where to go for good food!
If my kitties know how to use the electric can opener, they would ;) Then the ones outside will scratch at the door if they're hungry.
You're a FB junkie now Susan??? Poor you.. I haven't checked FB in weeks. Keep getting messages from family, and with this darn dial up, I need to reserve my patience for something more constructive!
Donna, that's funny about Bella liking the orange ones. Apparently they're bright enough to fascinate her!
Tante-I think that a 12 yr old pregnant is pretty disgusting. I know that may seem harsh, but I just think about the fact that she has to sacrifice not just a couple yrs of adolescence that girls who get pregnant at 16 do, but her childhood as well essentially. I think it is a tragedy. Sorry-I have strong views on such things. I won't even say half of what I'm thinking-probably get in trouble.
SO-a farty party huh??LOL We have one almost every day at my house;)
Aw Donna-he is a little man. Now he is going to start trying to find his identity in becoming a man over the next few years....
Jaye - I've been an FB junkie for about a month or more now....... yikes!
I have both FTown and FVille............
problem with FB is you have sooooooooo many opportunities to do other stuff!
I had to stop accepting offers to do stuff, cuz then I'd never get on my TRUE addiction which is DG!!!
yes, I have some of DG sisters on FB, but it's so much easier to chat here! ^_^
~Susan~
My whole family's addicted to both Farms, Susan! Kel's just perplexed with all the requests he's been getting to 'help' them out!
Barb asked me to post this..
TO: God.Com
Dear Lord,
Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer
Keeps running through my head:
God bless all my family
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm
And safe from harm
For they're so close to me.
And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
Please bless my computer too.
Now I know that it's unusual
To Bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.
You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.
I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me in to where they live.
By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you.
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.
Please take an extra minute
From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book
That's filled with so much love.
Wherever else this prayer may reach
To each and every friend,
Bless each e-mail inbox
And each person who hits 'send'.
When you update your Heavenly list
On your own Great CD-ROM,
Bless everyone who says this prayer
Sent up to GOD.Com
