Shes about too... #47

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Thank you Linda Kay, That is what I thought too. Seems strange that a Flower Magazine would not separate the two types of trumpets. I have a beautiful triple yellow and a purple datura that I grew from seeds that Clem sent me last year. They are both pretty but the yellow was the prettiest.
Thank you Debra for your offer on the white datura. I have never seen the white one.

My yellow datura. Devil trumpet!

Those are great girls! I was gifted with some seeds this Fall as well and I'm looking forward to trying them next year. Hope I can grow them here in the part sun that I have.

Debra, that white is beautiful, looks like satin.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

You will love them ....their perfume is different from the other daturas/ make sure you put them where you want them to stay as they are prenniels here. Juanita I think I sent you some, if not let me know.. Faye u have some headed your way in the am.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Thank you Debra....Looking forward to "Debra White Satin"

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Yes Debra you did send some. I have some from Arlene too. Will see what I can do with them in the spring. Cold and rainy here today. Most of the leaves are down now and it looks just plain ugly out there. :(.

No rain here, but nice weather for working outside. It is very cool in the early morning and late evening, but that is normal for us. I just put my brugs in moss on the 9th and already I'm expecting a lot of growth, not much patience here.

Have to get serious and get my garden cleaned up. Have to put all my pretty maids in a row for easier watering. DH ran water line to back fence and also by the corner of shed. Now I have a hose set up back there so don't have to drag the hose from the house. Have too many blood oranges on the tree that they are splitting open and falling on the ground. I think maybe we aren't doing somehing right,

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Morning everyone, it is awful that the only time you can find to get on and chat is because you have a head cold and can't sleep....LOL It was nice reading and catching up with everyone.

Datura's grow wild mostly out in pig pens around here, the white variety. The pigs won't eat them so you will drive by a field and this beautiful blooming white plant is in the middle of the torn up, wet, sloppy, no living plant left area. Very odd. They will seed and come back the following spring. Before I knew of daturas and brugs I got some of the seeds and they are still coming back. But maybe one of you can help me. I thought I read somewhere you shouldn't grow both angel trumphets and devils trumphets? Am I confused? Also went to a lecture and they said you shouldn't grow strawberries and tomatoes together, anyone know why?

Already have spider mites in the solar room and I am sure it is because it gets so warm in there! Think I will just strip leaves and start again.....ughhhhhh! Garden room is doing good tho, but it is cooler and lots of fans, and more humidity. I use to have a barrell with water garden plants in it in the solar room, maybe should think of doing that again.

Does anyone have some sort of automatic water system they use in the winter? Now that I am traveling so much I am having alot of problems with that.

Oh yeah, got stopped by one of my hometown finest yesterday at 5:15 in the morning. He said I rolled thru the stop sign. (The only stop sign) I drive a stick so I know I have to down shift to first, I don't think I did. I live in an itty bitty town, and at 5:15 in the morning the only two people out was the police officer and me, not exactly rush hour. Haven't had a ticket in years and years, but oh no he couldn't write a warning cause he said what I did was much much too dangerous, oh yeah, I am a harden driving maniac, ugh! $65.00 course I don't want points so now I have to pay a lawyer to lessen the offense. So there goes more Christmas money!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Pegi, sounds wonderful just to get to grow oranges.......
We have had so much rain, and even snow, way too early for that. Altho it has snowed and frosted I still have a start of an elephant ear growing up next to the house, it is fun to come home and see it there.
The farmers can't get the corn and soy beans out cause the ground is just soggy, plus now they have to dry all the grain. Lots of expense.

I also need to clean the gardens and get stuff mulched for the winter, especially the new plants.

I still have some bulbs to get out, love bulbs in the spring, the first sign of life for us.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Before I go off to bed I'm going to say I'm glad I don't have to worry about plants during our winter months. It usually doesn't get cold enough to do any harm, except one year I lost some plumeria because during the night it did get below 40 and that is unusual for us. It did freeze some other things, so when the say it is going to be COLD I'll put some protection around them.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I wish I didn't have so much cold. Don't mind the change of seasons, but wish summers were longer. Need to move except it would take semi's to do it....LOL DH hates the winter but I don't think he would ever entertain the idea of moving seriously, I could in a heatbeat....LOL Course I have lived several different states and loved meeting new people and finding out new things.

Later everyone.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Kim, I just went to lay back down and went over to DH's desk cause he forgot to shut down his laptop and found a box of brugs! What a nice thing to find. I do not know when it was delivered for sure, but they are all in great shape.....will ask DH about this when he gets up.....LOL and will get money to you tomorrow. I am so happy, what a nice surprise for a week that hasn't been the best of weeks....LOL So excited. Everything is soaking and will get ready to root this weekend.....can't believe you got so much in a little box! Again that is so nice of you to do that for postage. So excited.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Joyce it sounds like you've had a rough one. Please feel better. I had a bout of mites this summer on a couple of the brugs. I fussed and babied and drenched and finally got them over it, but it is a pain. Although at least I could do all that to them. On the other hand I just lost my entire inside lettuce crop to aphids. I had to cut it all off yesterday and clean and sterilize everything. Now it will be a couple of months before I have more ready. People on other forums said I should spray it. I told them they were missing the point of growing it in the first place. I wanted it to be organic and I don't care how organic a pesticide you use, you are still eating it especially on a leaf crop. Oh well, such is the life of a farmer. My grandparents knew it well.

Have a better day everyone.
Juanita

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Joyce, feel better soon, I am glad to know u are home and kicking..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

HELLO!

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving?

Now we are all getting ready for Christmas I hope?

JB, where are you? I bet your busy selling trees?

How cold can it get before I cut my brugs down?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Had a nice turkey day, now on to the Christmas shopping. I thought it would be a little easier this year since we have cut back, but to me there is no such thing as easy. Glad I have a box of nice stuff bought by a friend for me after last Christmas. She really got in on some good deals and shopped for me too. I forgot how many nice small gifts I have. So, before I have to go out I'm shopping in my big box first.

I've been setting up some brug cuttings sent to me by Jaye. I decided they should all go in moss, have good luck there. Found some 16 oz. plastic ups in a cupboard, in Christmas colors too, so all my brugs will start out their new lives in them. The ones Faye sent me are doing good, especially Versa Peach. Leaves popping out all over, maybe soon soon I will be able to put her in a bigger home. I think I have enough brugs now to start a small farm. So glad our weather is still nice and sunny. They said we will have a very rainy winter this year, well we shall see. Better get out some containers for rain water.

Sending a pretty bloom frm John F. Kennedy

So glad to see someone back on this thread. Yes, I am getting ready for Christmas. Most of my shopping is done and I have the outside lights on the house. Tomorrow, if it isn't to cold, I will hang the lights on the arbor over the mailbox. Then have to put garland & bows on the fence & windows. LOL, hopefully I will have time to decorate inside the house before Christmas
Love to all. Faye.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Linda, Pegi and Faye...
Oh my goodness! John F Kennedy is awsome.. I had him once, but last years rain and late freeze did him in.. him and Audry Hepburn, both gone after three years.. *sniff*
well, I lost KBS, faye, did you or Kim send that one? I stayed home all day today and played in the basement garden.. I re-arranged. I have put timers on my christmas wish list and a 4 bulb 48 inch shop light as well.. if I lived in warmer climates I would not have to ask for those thiings, instead I could ask for a nice piece of jewerly i guess.. LOL
College girl will get the inside of house decorated as usual when she comes home. I did however, dust off the hottie xmas tree and ornaments from last year.

Debra,

Where did you get that little Santa on your tree? I have a bunch of those hearts and that would be a great painting idea.
I've been puttering in the indoor gardens as well. Unfortunately the coleus farm is not doing great. They had a rough summer and they are fighting. Normally they have a big leaf drop inside in Jan. or Feb, but they have started early. Big mess. I do have an orchid that is about to bloom. I've had it for a couple of years and don't even remember what color it is. That will be a welcome surprise.
Have a major brug forest going in cups under the lights too. With what Jaye just sent me I am good to go now for sure!

Later gals,
J

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi ladies, Debra, I sent KBS and will mail you another next week.

Never got the white datura! Hopping it's in the mail.

Hello all! I hope you are doing well! I am fine, just preparing for Christmas and looking through all the pretty ornaments I got from you guys last year in our Christmas ornament swap. I was ill during the summer months and let my plants just burn up....and I was burnt up on forum posting for awhile, so I took a much needed break. And guess what? My Brugs went all summer long without ANY water, bug spray, special fertilizer or "the recipe", and they grew huge and bloomed like crazy the whole month of October! They are all in-ground of course. Just letting you all know that those babies are not such babies after all! All were over 8 feet tall and 4 ft wide. Imagine that after all the worrying we've done here about them!

Well, I just wanted to say hi and see if any of you guys remember me after all this time, LOL! Love and hugs, Karen

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Karen. Glad to see you posting again!
Sorry to hear you were not feeling well, and hope your feeling better.
Glad to hear you did not lose your brugs! Did you have a good Thanksgiving!
Now we all are getting ready for Christmas. Hard to believe the year went so fast.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Karen!!!! {{{{{huggers}}}}} I have missed you alot!
Faye, I havn;t sent them yet, but will stick them in the mail tommorrow, sorry.. you should get those seeds by this Saturday, let me know.. They need to get into the ground for this coming spring.. they are not like the purple or yellow metels.. they are prenniels here..
I still am sending seed packets to my girls here.. Pegi, Tami and Juanita, Faye... Karen? same address? .. ya'all will have to chill some of them for a few weeks tho.. been getting ready for the MG swap I am in.. bagged up 18 baggies of 9 cultivars so far.. only three more pillow cases of vines to sort out and clean..very messy.

Juanita, that Santa was sent to me in the hottie Ornament swap last year. I love them all. I talked to AuntB today. it was so good to her her voice. She sounded tired. I prolly sounded tired too.
My 28 yr old daughter came over tonight to let us know what the dr said about her horrible back pain... he said she needs a breast reduction. Insurance should cover it. it has caused her to have curvature of the spine? We have no clue where she got those things... no one else in the family on either side has this problem.. although we all wish we did LOL ..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I cut my brugs down today, so if anyone wants any NOIDS, please dmail me.
I have White, dark yellow, pink, and a bunch, I don't know the color of.
LMK

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Juanita, I painted the Santa ornament for last year swap, I didn't have a pattern, but after I painted the first one I think I traced it so I wouldn't have to work so hard getting the eyes correct. I think I could scan the tracing paper if you want to try it? Let me know and I will look in my paints and see if I kept the tracing.

Linda I didn't think you would get in the 20's in Del Rio?

Everyone ready for the holidays? I have had so much fun shopping this year for some reason.....need to finish decorating.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

it does not normally get this cold, this early! Just a freak cold front coming through!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

keep it down there will ya? it is really cold here tonight.. LindaKay, I can send you a stamp ofr postage, wouldn't mind a dark yellow and a different white from you..
they changed my schedule at work again.. i guess I have to love it or leave it..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning.
Love the impatiens. SO pretty.
I will get your cuttings out to you soon. No postage. Just paying it forward.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

LK,

I love your thought about paying it forward. That is great. I try to do the same thing. The postage isn't a big deal for me and I like being able to send to folks.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

LK, I too like your idea of paying it forward and wish that I could have afforded to do that with all 14 boxes of cuttings that I mailed out. Some boxes had 20 + cuttings and had I not received postage, I would just have to trash all those beautiful trumpets.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hey you guys.. it is snowing in houston? Unbelievable! no snow here until next week.. ugh!

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I should never have gone on Facebook, boy that site is addicting.

Our weather is pretty cool, but no rain yet. My legs feel like it is going to rain, aching, but put some Salanpos pain patches on them and what a relief. Probably in Jan. & Feb. we will be complaining about too much rain so better enjoy just the cool weather for now.

This is my John F. Kennedy rose, putting out some beautiful white flowers now.

Thumbnail by Samigal
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh Pegi, that Rose is soooo beautiful... yes I am up, world. They changed my schedule again at work. There are three 20 and 21 yr old girls painting white tee shirts while wearing feathers in their hair. I just went in and hushed them and told them to just watch my face in moms sign language as joe is ASLEEP.. THen, I smiled at them and put my fngers up to my jaw line and smiled at them again while holding my skin tight and they all started laughing. I hushed them again and smiled while holding my forehead hairline up tight and they were giggling so much my DD ( college girl) said, MOM you're drunk! You gonna make me pee my pants and I don't want Daddy to comeout here in his boxers.. and we all started laffing again as i held my face tight smiling with my skin all pulled back top and bottom and I can hear them still giggling. I am so grateful my youngest daughter doesn't mind that I am her mother and isn't ashamed of me. I am so glad they are not in a bar or at someones house getting high or even more. I am not drunk. I am claiming what time I have to myself and that time is now. Sad, but okay with me. I have been re- arranging plants all night since I got home at ten pm. All I can think if is SPRING, SUMMER FALL> brugmanias blooming all over Kansas. I gave away six seedlings I grew last winter. They were brenda delphs crosses. Some B. suavleons from ebay, and some b arborea from a DGr. It was fun growing those out. I do have three of those and three from phicks seeds. giving them away was good. now four other people in Kansas are in love with brugs. Rubilene X Peanut grew up and bloomed.
L Windsongss X with rubilene did not bloom but prolly cuz they were clipping the tips as they Y'd. I have no clue.
Another one died from lack of any kind attention whats so ever so I know not to give that person a brug again.
The three in wellington are owned by a master gardener. They didn't bloom. They have the Miss B havin x I can't remember now and she didn't bloom so they were dissapointed. I asked them where they had them and they said in the shade. I told them not to give up, get them out of the ground and inside to go dormant. Again, I have no clue as to how they are right now. I have the bottom half of Pink NOID huge blooms in the cemet container it grew and bloomed in, up by the dryer vent on the south side of the back porch, and I have it covered with leaves, branches and some compost coffee grounds. I am hoping it is not mush sinceit has froze several times. When the impatiens, marigolds and petunias are crisp, you know it froze hard. I am not looking until spring.

Good morning Debra, enjoyed your fun. Also love how you have kept up with your Brug. babies. I would love hearing how my sent babies are doing. I got a replacement in the mail for you Fri. It is small, but already rooted. Sorry I didn't have a larger one. Best of luck, and have a good day...don't you need some sleep? I do and I haven't been long out of bed.
AYF, Faye

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. it is 27 here this morning, everything is covered with frost! So what few plants I left out, I pray will come back next year?
Debra, I laughed right along with you. Sounds like you had a great night with the girls!
This is my Mustang!
