The Hawaiian language is very descriptive. The word rain, "ua", in Hawai'i has a large amount of descriptive terms behind it, as rain is a beloved event that preserves the land.
Here's just a few terms for rain on plants.
Ua po'ai hala; rain that surrounds Pandanus.
Ua lu lau ko; rain on Sugarcane leaves.
Ua moe lehua; rain that makes 'Ohi'a trees lay down.
Ua moaniani lehua; rain that wafts the fragrance of 'Ohi'a flowers.
Ua kinai lehua; rain that feeds the 'Ohi'a flowers.
Ua kani lehua; mist-like rain that 'Ohi'a flowers drink.
Gypsies and Well-diggers....oh my
We we suppose to have rain this afternoon but I am glad it missed us. Sun tomorrow. Sorry about all you soggy people!!
Have you eaten them Venice? I really don't know what they taste like. Nor have I tried duck but many people consider it a delacacy
Dave yoou have one complicated language. How did you learn English so well? Were you raised in Hawaii?
Now all I need is to find out what these things are: Pandanus, Sugarcane leaves, 'Ohi'a trees, and 'Ohi'a flowers!!
Flowers that is so sweet. Had a baby squirrel one time. Fed him out of a syinge. Had to call a game and wild life guy. Had no idea how to take care of one. He did survive. And some one brought me another one that had fell out of a nest. It was squirrel city for a while over here.
Hola (spanish) Mercie Bo Coupe (thank you very much in French) Kazondhite
(German for Bless you) and ave Day for Dave is pig latin thats my language lesson for today, stay tuned tomorrow may here a new language lol
Yes they are so sweet when babies, I had the opportunity to hold a baby doe years ago. It licked me like a puppy. The neighbor kept feeding a baby bear beer in the woods behind the house and it followed him home lol. But when they get bigger ya better get rid of the wild ones.
In your language ,I think I would be the clown Dave. Or is it your second language,or 3 or 4? There are so many people that can speak multiple languages.
Dave what is the dreaded animal in Hawaii?
Yea Flowers even if its a wild baby squirrel. When they get to be teen agers HORMONES ARE RAGING !!
lets see hummmm we have snakes, spiders, cyotees, bear, skunks, fox, deer, bobcats and moles. Sure I am missing some.
That is awesome Dave, love the tropics for all the beautiful plants and trees.
Your just a couple of states away from me Flowers. I am sure we share a lot of the same critters. Grin. Beautiful tree Dave.
Yeah Dixie, had a friend that tried to raise a baby lion. It did good for about 6 months and then he came home from work one day and the lion had run his girlfriend off and destroyed his house lol
Hi Flowers!
The dreaded animal in Hawai'i, is Humans!
I don't have alligators or crocs and think you do Dixie.
LOL know what ya mean Dave, I would rather wrestle a grizzly than deal with some of the bimbos here!
Dave hurry up and get the additions done. Right Flowers? Every one? We all want to come for a visit. You provide lodging we will bring food. Just say when.
Not making fun, just curious-----Dave do you have tribes there that carry shrunken heads on a stick and dance around a fire for rituals?LOL
Not until he answers my last question Dixie lol
oops ok gonna get off here before I stir up a bees nest Lol Yall have a good evening.
Yeah Flowers we do have those nasty critters. Would take them any time over a bunch of ignorant red necks. Get my drift. Sickening. Or the so called country club set. No offence to any one I hope. Just talking about my little neck of the woods.
Flowers, shrunken heads? Lets leave my family out of this. LOL
Sorry Dixie didn't mean to dissapear on you, connection is slow tonight and am watching dancing with the stars. They just did the Charleston. Love it!! talk to you later. Dave is probably having problems since page is getting so long and think he has dial up. Have a good night to you and Venice and if anyone is talking to me tomorrow I'll catch ya then. Toodles Karen
Where has every one gone again? Dave my husband used to live in Toby Hanna Penn. Via Cuba. Thats a story. And Moon has disappeared again.
G'night Flowers. See ya in the funny papers.
Quartet did ok. At least we didn't embarass ourselves. In fact, we got asked to sing in Vicksburg, Suday week.
Clorox is good for a sting. You can use the ole country boy remedy, take a big chew of baccer and daub it on the sting.
O.K.Guess I'll give up. I'm so full of conversation to night. No one is out there. I am all alone. BOO,HOO I bought my self a new book. I am going to read. Good night all, sleep tight. Wish every one sweet dreams.
Night Dixie! Enjoy your book!
Not a tribe. A culture! Hawaiians / Polynesians. Mostly peaceful people; I have many Hawaiian friends; none of them have shrunken anyone's head or eaten a Human.
Aren't shrunken heads from African tribes of past times?
In ancient Hawaiian times, Warriors (members of the Ali'i, or chief class) would consume the heart of their fiercest enemy, upon defeating him.
That would only be from the highest Ali'i, and it was a ritual to preserve the Mana (power) of the ruler.
The partakers were said to not enjoy it; it was their duty as Warriors.
Don't worry Flowers, no Hawaiian has ever eaten a Caucasian.
By education (University of Hawai'i) I am an Anthropologist / Botanist / Geographer. I believe in Cultural Relativism rather than Ethnocentrism.
Please Flowers get some education into other Cultures!
Hi Jim long time no see.
Hi to flowers, dixie, venice, moon, Dave and anyone else hanging around.
Gee Dave how long do you have to go to school to accomplish all that?
If my memory serves me..and sometimes it don't.. you are not very old.
With all the bad stuff us humans put in our bodies, we would probably give someone serious indigestion or worse.
JJ, seems to me that Dave said that he was in basic training 40 years ago. Maybe I am mistaken and I am sorry Dave if I am wrong.
Hi JJ!
Went to school for eight years, never stopped studying. Most of my work, and most of my friends are involved in education.
It is supposed to be that when Sharks attack Humans, they usually spit them out, as they don't taste too good!
I think that was Jim venice, but like I said my memory isn't what it use to be.
Dave picture looks like he is young like 38.
I took a very nice gentleman to get new glasses this afternoon. He has early stages of dementia/alzheimer's and we had quite the time figuring out just what glasses he did want.
Could have used kassys patience for sure. Think I was more rattled when got home than he was.
Hope it didn't show..
Hi Carol, I must have been tired when I said that. I enlisted and went to basic training in Ft. Jackson, SC in 1979.
I would taste good Dave!! All donuts and chocolate..LOL
And lynnie takes my spirit to the gym every morning to keep me fit.
That's a long time to study. But it shows you took it seriously because you sure learned alot.
Actually it's amazing one mind could hold all that knowledge.
There are a couple others I have met on DG that amaze me with all they know also.
So that would make Dave at least 47, right?
