all I can think of is fried green tomatoes...its been so long since I've had some good ones
Gypsies and Well-diggers....oh my
the paper thingys on the out side are dry but are the little tomato looking thing in the center THE seed or are the seeds inside them?
I saw a photo of that little cherry thing inside the lantern. If you have quite a few, why don't you cut into that cherry thing and see what you have!
I know this the cherry things are really sticky if you get the juice on you, they smell bad, and even after you wash your hands with soap if you get your finger in your eye it will burn
Good golly!!! Well I haven't read that!
What color are your lanterns?
Orange....bright orange
I think they turn red when they are ready to pick.
well they started off red so maybe they're not chinese lanterns....who knows they'll stll look better than all the weeds
The seeds are inside the fruit, just like a Tomato.
Aloha Dave thank you that answers that question
Aloha ahiahi Dave! Do you wait until that cherry thing dries up? Or do you just take it apart and separate the seeds?
Who owns those nice horses? Do you ride them?
Do those turn orange or red?
The above species, Physalis peruviana, has yellow-orange fruit.
hey Dave want any rose cuttings?
Thanks Trina. I have China Roses which are the only kind that do well here.
China Roses?
Beautiful roses!!!
Venice, I'll send you some Kiwi Ferns too. I love it, I think it's my favorite. I have a huge pot of them.
Dave, I think you found Kate's horse (couldn't resist...)
Smiley, thank you so much.
Venice, I don't do veggies, my yard is too small and I'm too neurotic. My neighbor does, and I know she puts her green cherry tomatoes in the basement, they get red. I don't know how long it takes, but she gives them to me when they're ready.
Smiley, I don't have a basement but I have a room that is cooler. Glad to know others end up having green cherries.
I know typically you aren't into saving seeds. Do you plant seeds?
Lovely roses Dave....would the common name be fairy cushion rose by any chance?
Venice I will take cherry tomato seeds.....I've been trying to find yellow pear tomato seeds.
most of my beds are perennials. DH likes the look of potted plants also, so I do annuals in most of them. So I HAVE done seeds in some of those.
Actually, I save nigella (love-in-a-mist) seeds that I got from my niece's shower, has to be 6 years now. I save the seeds heads (they're little balls) and crush them & sprinkle around this small strip of bed I have by the fence. She was given such a hard time by her family on her choice of husband (none of you know her so it doesn't matter-he was a priest and left the church to marry her-ain't love grand??) that I do as a symbol of their love for each other. I think. whatever. 2 kids later....
But as far as the other beds go, I just buy some annuals to put in there for color.
Well, I would be glad to give you cherry seeds. However, I am not saving these for myself. The skins are a bit tough and are best in a salad so they don't stick to the roof of your mouth. Also, they are a little sweeter when they are just a little soft past ripe.
Jim said that the best cherries are Sweet 100's. If I were getting seeds or plants, I would get those. Maybe you can find some of those in a trade.
love-in-a-mist?
nigella. love-in-a-mist. It's kind of fern-ey and air-ey. Mine don't get very big, but kind of hide out between everything else. This is kind of what mine look like:

those are cool smiley, strange looking but cool.
Wow Dave you're getting closer
Those nigella are a very interesting flower. I see why you like it. You will have to show us a photo of them when they are blooming.
I was just trying to think of some seeds that I could send your way. I am not too familiar with these Newbie seeds I received. I will give it some thought.
I'll try some, Venice! See, you guys are rubbing off on me. I can have Trina coleus and roses, Venice flowers...
I have to get better with a camera. Ours is really old, Daughter's is very new... I get skeert of it. It doesn't help to live with 2 people who are really into photography, either. Angela is very good - she's the yearbook editor this year. She'd kill me if she knew I told you that.
But hey, I'll take some seeds! Gives me all winter to research.
eh, it's almost 10:30. I get to start the countdown again tomorrow, Trina.
Signing off - everyone have a good night.
Dave nui, nunui!!! (Am I using that right?)
I think I am definately gonna have a plant sell this spring!
Smiley, night! and have a good sleep!
