Elizabeth
Miss B havin
Dee
your house is lovely, I love the colors of your petunias, they look red white & Blue, I love it
Elizabeth
Where we live is on a hill, that is why we had no flooding. Most of our Mountains are in North Ga. It is very pretty up there if you can stand going up all those curves. The
Chattahoochee Preserve is up there. Lordy, is it curvy. I will put those alliums in the first garden. They will look good next spring. Things we have trouble growing is Tulips. They do not grow and come back very wel down here like they do in northern staes because we don't have enough cold to really set them, I guess. I have a couple red tulips that make it. It is always nice to see my little friends come up. Do you all have a Lenten Rose?? I have one, I got to get the homeysuckle vines off it. It bulbs in the cold. It is a nice little plant.
Google it and see what they look like. I am going to have to read up and see how they transplant, easy or not.
We have wild honeysuckle and not hedge trees but hedge bushes, those things come p everywhere. Makes for a lot of hard work. I have cleared out a lot of honeysuckle, hege and Oh, yes, Blackberry briars. Don't like those either. They grow every where.
Yes, I have seen Bon Bon. Very pretty. I love the doubles!
Dee
Your house is as cute as can be. I will have to try to see if I can get a picture of my house.
Now it is surrounded by "jungle" If it isn't raining i will do that tomarrow.
This the bed that I put in for the hummers and butterflies sorta cottagey...more my style. This the one I told you about that the weeds drive me crazey in,where I don't use preen, because of the re-seeders.There wasn't much blooming when this pic was taken, but it was the first full summer for the bed.
Dee
O.K. ladies, I guess I will have to take a Pic of my house, Dee your house doesn't look like it's a 100 years old, it's really nice
Elizabeth
We really don't know which part of the house is the original parts. We do know that it was added onto twice.Once which is very obvious..lol.. We put some new siding on and painted right after we moved in about 3 years ago.
Dee
I like your garden, I want some hollyhock, got tthis deer problem. I'm going to try it again this year.
I day a red daylilliy, hollyhock. You had some blooms. It is cute as can be.
Thanks, girls!'
Dee
Do you need some hollyhock seeds, Charleen . I have tons of the figleaf kind.
Yes, Elizabeth..We need to see your yard/house pics..lol
Dee
We live in a Modular home. It is pretty good size. Wish it were a house, it would be a lot easier to keep
cool in the summertime. But I can't complain. I like it. Just wish I wasa better housekeeper. I'M NOT.
i WOULD RATER BE OUTSIDE THAN INSIDE. i WARNED MY dh BEFORE WE GOT MARRIED, AND
like I said I can't complain. He doesn't either.
That big bed might make the switch to a brug bed in the next couple years..lol
Dee
Send me a few ,Dee, don't send a big bunch. I bet they are pretty.
Got to get some Preen to put in that big bed that DH tilled today. Your bed would look beautiful with Brugs.
I have two spotssaved now for Brugs. So you may as well climb on the wagon and plant some too.
Dee
I guess I will be taking a lot of Pic's, our kitchen was added on, so was the enclosed back porch, I just wish when it gets really cold, our back porch had some kind of heat out there, it would make a great, sunroom, it gets great sun light
but it's not insulated, sooo I used it as an extra fridge, at Thanksgiving, I put my left overs on a table, it keeps them cold
next Spring I am fixing that
Elizabeth
I'm right with you Charleen. In the Spring, I live in the yard...the house work will still be there when I get ready to do it..I'm a better yard keeper, than house keeper anyday. This past summer, DH and I made a deal.I would do all the yard work..mowing etc, and he would keep the kitchen clean..he is retired..and we both were happy campers!worked out great!
Dee
Well, in all fairness he does most of the weed eating.. I hate that part..But, he cheated alot and everytime I had my head turned he was spraying weed killer, where ever he could, so he didn't have to weed eat..lol
Isn't it great when DH agree to work with you instead of against you.
I am very lucky, he likes plants too. He plants the Veg. garden and
I do the flowers. i love it. He just pokes things in the ground. i try
to plant these things they are supposed to be, very carefully. Now,
he plants what he wants and i do too. I would rather he dig
the hole and let me plant the plant. He's too hit and miss.
Dee & Charlene
that would be the day, that anyone at my house would do the cleaning or Housework, Dee you are right, the housework isn't going anywhere, it'll be there waiting for you
Elizabeth
You are right,It lays there til we get it done. It finally gets put up.
That is the way here too, pretty much. Lord help us if they get sick.
Dh has been fighting a cold. He doesn't have a very good
immune system and he is diabetic, so I worry about him/
Oh, Elizabeth, I wish I had a closed in porch. Are you going to put heat out there next year?
Girls I was divorced and a single mother of three from the time my youngest was almos two, til right after she graduated high school, so I do know what its like to try to do it all. But I don't do that anymore...it's share and share alike, now...lol
Dee
Charleen, my husband and I are both daibetics. He's on insulin, but I'm diet cortroled. You would think I'd be skinny...lol
Charlene
I hope he gets better, being a diabetic, that's not anything to mess with, my sister is a diabetic, I am lucky I don't have it, I am on the other end of the spectrum, I have low blood sugar, you would not have believed the diet the doctor gave me if I followed it, I would have starved
Elizabeth
I must say that my dh is a good egg..he puts up with me and my plant addictions. He is the best thing that ever happened to me, thats for sure!
Dee
Charleen does the diabetes affect his immune system?
Dee
Dee
I am going to put heat out there, insulate it & put in good windows, so I can grow Brugs there year round, I wanted to put a something on top of our flat roofed kitchen, my DH will not hear of it, something like gordon has a root top Greenhouse, I will have it pressure tested to see if it can hold weight, DH says no, but I know better a 2x4 can hold a decent amount of weight, a 2x6 can hold even more, it has 2x6's on the walls
Elizabeth
I love Gordon's rooftop garden! Men...they think us girls don't know nuttin'...lol
Dee
Dee, I believe when he had Pnuemonia about ten years ago tore his
immune system down, but i I think that the Diabetes helps it at all.
Elizabeth, He has probably heardy ou talk about Gordon's rooftop Brug
GH and h is afraid you will do the same. I know it is tempting.
Dee
if we didn't know anything, how on earth could we manage, to do all that we do, if we can manage our finances
that makes us know a lot, if we doctor our familes, clean, cook do our gardens, then we know something
Elizabeth
They think anytime you do building of any
kind we do not know. But we do. i have a little
scrollsaw and I love to make things with it. Wait til you all
see my little trailer I made. Sometimes I wonder how I do it??
Ain't that the truth, Elizabeth!
I showed my DH the pics of gordon's garden. All he had to say, was where in the world does he live?..lol
Charlene
it is so tempting, it works great for gordon, & look at the zone he lives in, it's colder there than here, look at the size of his Brugs, amazing, DH doesn't want me to have anything that involves him working on it, I still am waiting on an arbor made out of all the galvanized pipes I have in the garage, I have enough of them to make about 4 arbors, I have to buy a pipe threader, put it in his hand & tell him honey I know you can do it, then I would get my arbors
Elizabeth
I think where there's a will, there's a way, Charleen, and we can do anything that we have to do, or want to do bad enough..Right?
Dee
Did you have any new blooms today, Elizabeth?
Dee
Dee
if you go shopping, if you can get those clear plastic totes, they make great season extenders, I caught them on sale for $5.00 a piece I got 10 of them, they make great mini greenhouses so if have clippings in the ground at the beginning of the season, they work great, just a little tibit of info
Elizabeth
Dee,Yes, that is right. Elizabeth, you may be the one who ends up threading pipe.
I can tell you what would work. Farm supply stores have Cattle fence panels.
They are about 20' long. If you could get them curved and into a U-shape. They would
made a nice Arbor. I have one made from a trampoline that was left here when we moved here.
I had forgot about it. It has a wisteria vine on it. i will have to get a pic of it for you. I think it
looks pretty good.
There are ways to get around it.
Charlene
that sounds like a great idea, if I just had my way, it would all be different, but I am going to not fight with him over it, I will just buy the materials & do the porch myself, it's a fact if we want to do something bad enough we can, we had this screen door, I hated it, I measured the door & frame, went to lowes paid for it, had my niece & her DH go pick it up in their van, brought it here put it in front of the back door, so he had no choice install it or move it every time he wanted to go out to the back yard, now I have a beautiful door, where that awful screen door used to be
Elizabeth
That's great idea Elizabeth..the totes!
I do have an old wooden arbor,, at the back gate, but I have made trellises out of every thing under the sun..lol..Charleen, I have seen old trampolines, used like that.Looks pretty good and for a wisteria I bet it is great!
Dee
You did Great, Elizabeth. See how we do? I love it.
