Not to worry about who gets how many votes. I've been excepted with worse and rejected with better....not here but in other contests.
If I've learned anything it is to just play the game. In the process we learn.
It is better to submit and be rejected or over looked than not to have played the opportunity in the first place.

Oh, my goodness! Can you imagine trying to judge it if EVERYONE submitted at least one? LOL Aren't the DG members in the many millions now?
Voting is hard enough with several hundred entries! I agonized over some of them for DAYS!

GGK- I LOVE that photo!!! I would have voted for that on the spot! I can't wait to show my kids in the morning. They are going to love it! He's so ferocious... the way he's ripping into that worm. I've never seen an "action" shot of a slug with it's "kill" before.
i wish the all the judges luck, they are gonna need it!!!

westraad... the Judges are all of us, we all get to vote for our favorite pics, so you can be a judge as well!
What doc says is right, a lesser shot may win as opposed to a better shot, the jury panel is not composed of professional photographers or photo editors, but rather a small sampling of the general public whose main forte is supposedly gardening.
I just play for the sake of playing, after all its not like the grand prize is a gift certificate or a full frame camera... It's just for the fun of it IMO.
Oh, i didn't realize we are the judges! pretty obvious i am new on DG. :-)

Yes only to subscribers, last winter I was not a subscriber at the time the contest came out, so I could not enter. ☺
What if you enter a pics that was in the contest before and you forgot. Will it just be eliminated or will you be kicked out. BEV

lol! I don't think they'll kick you out Bev, surely you wouldn't be punished for an oversight, (admin may confirm this). Most probably the photo would be disqualified.
You can just check the categories from the previous year if you are not sure. That's what I had to do and then I became totally distracted looking at all the wonderful images again!

What is the definition of "macro" in the photo contest catagories?
my DM says it is when I am on my knees on the side of the road with my rump sticking skyward, taking a picture of a tiny flower that the driver who nearly ran off the road can not see. LOL
Micro is when your camera take a picture life size or larger.

I think there is going to be plenty to judge, as there are already over 1500 entries, and still two weeks yet to go before submissions close.
Judging has always been the hardest part of this contest!
It is a job! And sometimes the ones I like best don't win. How can that happen? : ) But, how fun to see them all.
Are last year's photo contest entries and winners still posted? I'd like to see the compition before I enter :) I take lots of closeups and I also see if what I have qualifies for the macro catagory
The link to previous contests has been posted a few times earlier in this thread--or you can get to it by going to your home page and clicking on "extras". There wasn't a macro category last year though, so if you want some guidance to see whether yours count or not, in the Photos forum they have a number of threads devoted to macros so you could go look at those and see if you think yours is close enough.
Are photos that have been previously uploaded to a plant or bug listed in Plantfiles or Bugfiles eligible?

Oops! I just discovered I put a picture in the wrong category - is there someway to move it, or do I just hope it is will make it anyway?
You can edit your picture choices, go back into "my entries" and there is a delete/edit option. Just delete it and put it in the right cagegory.
Click on the category where you posted the photo then choose view your entry, In the rught hand column you may edit or delete. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Because of the overlapping of categories, is it permissible to enter the same photo into more than one category?
