Time for the 2009 Dave's Garden photo contest!

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL, GardenGuyKin! What a great shot!

Thanks!
It was entered in the 2006 contest and I don't think I got one vote!
Just too darn UGLY
:(

Xai Xai, Mozambique

wow, great photo, gross, but excellent shot!!
Isaac

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Great pics!

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Not to worry about who gets how many votes. I've been excepted with worse and rejected with better....not here but in other contests.
If I've learned anything it is to just play the game. In the process we learn.

It is better to submit and be rejected or over looked than not to have played the opportunity in the first place.

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Well said, Docgipe. The fun is in the doing!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I really, truly, really hope that all members participate. I believe that everyone has at least one special photo. SHARE please!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Me too Dahlianut! I so enjoy looking at others pictures...I get inspired to try something new!!

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh, my goodness! Can you imagine trying to judge it if EVERYONE submitted at least one? LOL Aren't the DG members in the many millions now?

Voting is hard enough with several hundred entries! I agonized over some of them for DAYS!

Angie

Mableton, GA(Zone 7a)

GGK- I LOVE that photo!!! I would have voted for that on the spot! I can't wait to show my kids in the morning. They are going to love it! He's so ferocious... the way he's ripping into that worm. I've never seen an "action" shot of a slug with it's "kill" before.

Thanks, glad you liked it and will share it with your kids. It's all good and educational even if it is a SLOW kill !
P.S. I may have gotten a few votes and the contest is all for fun and sharing. I love viewing everyone's photos

Xai Xai, Mozambique

i wish the all the judges luck, they are gonna need it!!!

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

westraad... the Judges are all of us, we all get to vote for our favorite pics, so you can be a judge as well!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

What doc says is right, a lesser shot may win as opposed to a better shot, the jury panel is not composed of professional photographers or photo editors, but rather a small sampling of the general public whose main forte is supposedly gardening.
I just play for the sake of playing, after all its not like the grand prize is a gift certificate or a full frame camera... It's just for the fun of it IMO.

Xai Xai, Mozambique

Oh, i didn't realize we are the judges! pretty obvious i am new on DG. :-)
Isaac

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

No worries, Isaac... we were all new here once!

Xai Xai, Mozambique

just wondering, is this contest only open to subscribers? i am a subscribed member, so its not a problem for me, i was just wondering.
Isaac

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes only to subscribers, last winter I was not a subscriber at the time the contest came out, so I could not enter. ☺

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

What if you enter a pics that was in the contest before and you forgot. Will it just be eliminated or will you be kicked out. BEV

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

You will get ten lashes over the eye with a wet noodle.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

lol! I don't think they'll kick you out Bev, surely you wouldn't be punished for an oversight, (admin may confirm this). Most probably the photo would be disqualified.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

You can just check the categories from the previous year if you are not sure. That's what I had to do and then I became totally distracted looking at all the wonderful images again!
For any that don't know where to find the previous years contests, go to your home page, click the Extras below all the tabs, scroll down to Dave's attic > Dave's Garden Photo Contests. Refresh your coffee and enjoy!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks doc LOL

Santa Fe, NM

GGK, what a great picture! How funny!

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Just went browsing through last year's winners and runners up, and was astonished and amazed all over again. Sigh. So much beauty, and so much talent in capturing it flawlessly!

Angie

Here is the link, if anyone else wants to be amazed! I recommend you submit your pictures first, though. :)

Xai Xai, Mozambique

well, then there won't be too many pictures to judge, as there are only 7,462 subscribed members. its probably still going to be a lot though! looking forward to it.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Angie's link went to brug flowers :-) (?Freudian slip?)
here is the link to last year's photo contest: http://davesgarden.com/contest/2008/

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

What is the definition of "macro" in the photo contest catagories?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

my DM says it is when I am on my knees on the side of the road with my rump sticking skyward, taking a picture of a tiny flower that the driver who nearly ran off the road can not see. LOL

Micro is when your camera take a picture life size or larger.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Quoting:
Angie's link went to brug flowers

??? Link worked fine to me and you can see it's named correctly too: davesgarden.com/contest/

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I think there is going to be plenty to judge, as there are already over 1500 entries, and still two weeks yet to go before submissions close.

Judging has always been the hardest part of this contest!

Santa Fe, NM

It is a job! And sometimes the ones I like best don't win. How can that happen? : ) But, how fun to see them all.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Are last year's photo contest entries and winners still posted? I'd like to see the compition before I enter :) I take lots of closeups and I also see if what I have qualifies for the macro catagory

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

The link to previous contests has been posted a few times earlier in this thread--or you can get to it by going to your home page and clicking on "extras". There wasn't a macro category last year though, so if you want some guidance to see whether yours count or not, in the Photos forum they have a number of threads devoted to macros so you could go look at those and see if you think yours is close enough.

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

Are photos that have been previously uploaded to a plant or bug listed in Plantfiles or Bugfiles eligible?

Thanks.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

As long as it hasn't been submitted in previous DG photo contests.

Newport, OR

Oops! I just discovered I put a picture in the wrong category - is there someway to move it, or do I just hope it is will make it anyway?

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

You can edit your picture choices, go back into "my entries" and there is a delete/edit option. Just delete it and put it in the right cagegory.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Click on the category where you posted the photo then choose view your entry, In the rught hand column you may edit or delete. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Because of the overlapping of categories, is it permissible to enter the same photo into more than one category?

Thanks.
