Time for the 2009 Dave's Garden photo contest!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You would not want to give a tally for each individual photo, but giving the tally for at least 1st and 2nd place shouldn't cause a problem....or even the top 5 since every category had more than 25 entries.

Yes, I believe that is how we did it last year.

Quoting:
Dave, did all years have the same allotted submission time?

More or less. But past years we allowed people to add as many photos as they wished. We put the "2 photos per category per person" limit in during the last year or two.

North Augusta, ON

I sometimes wish I could see if any of my entered photos received any votes...curiosity more than anything. Just to see if I was entering the right kind of photo.

Dave, could you set it up so that just the person who entered the photo could see if it got any votes? or if it got picked as a favourite?

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

Dave,

Go for it!... It'll be fun for next year contest....

Five favorites would be great, Dave!
Would the point system be this then?
First-5 points
Second-4 points
Third-3 points
Fourth-2 points
Fifth-1 point

GardenGuyKin, that would make perfect sense, yes.

Santa Fe, NM

That would be nice. I wonder about adding more categories, however. It seems like there has to be some limit because there are only 12 months and a front and back cover on the calendar.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We could have a final voting on the best of the best, right?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

That's how we did it last year, voted from the winners as to what image goes to what month.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

WHOA Cool Bugs and Caterpillers! I am so stuck on birds sigh. Good thing I still have many days to decide. Thanks Dave for a long time to vote whew!

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

So far, the macro shots have been the most difficult category for me... so many good pics!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Well there we be dear Brenda. I actually wasn't too stumbled about macros. This is why the contest is so fabby. We all have different stumblers ^_^

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Indeed! ^_^

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

I'm stumbling on a lot of the categories! ^_^ It will probably be just as hard to vote next year with the top 5 instead of 3... Some of these categories are just chock-full of great shots. Ah well, I am about halfway there, wish me Godspeed.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Yes, I agree, there are many many great entries! Makes it hard to choose but that is what makes it so fun, eh?

And for me, just as important, Big Time Kudos to Dave for the great voting process! What a wonderful system of viewing the pics, holding them aside as potential favorites, narrowing those down to your "favorite favorites", being able to view them all as thumbnails or not, having them open in another window/tab, etc. Great programming, Dave. It's a far cry from the very first contest, much more streamlined. It sure makes it a more enjoyable experience. Much obliged!

And now, back to viewing another category...

Happy Day to All!
Shoe

Thank you, Shoe! I appreciate your kind words! ^_^

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

I agree--I love that there are different methods available, so people can choose which one suits their voting style! My only request would be for it to stop rearranging the pictures every time you remove one from your favorites. It would be much easier if they stayed in the same order, so you could pick up where you left off! That's a pretty minor thing, though, in the grand scheme of things.

I'm having a terrible time making up my mind in some of these categories, and I still have 10 categories to go! I'm sure glad we have a couple of weeks to decide!

Well, there's only 8 days left until the voting closes!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O pressure :O Actually I'm down to Birds and Flutterbys/Moths/Cats so I'm not doing too bad this year.

Santa Fe, NM

I'm closing in on it! Almost done. Great pic's in every category!

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm getting there. Doing a few categories a day. My kids come running every time they see me going through categories, so they can give me their professional input. LOL Not sure we're looking at the same criteria!

I'll be done before the deadline. Promise. Cross my heart. Maybe only barely done, but I'll be done. :)

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Yes Horseshoe, good point. We should thank the admins as well as the photographers for making the contest so much fun!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Too true! Great job by all!

Santa Fe, NM

I agree!

Balotesti, Romania(Zone 5a)

I'm with Horseshoe too! Thanks Dave and all admins for all your work ! This contest is very important for so many of us...it's like a fullfilment and also a challenge for all of us who are in love with photography . Seeing all those great pics makes my day. My colleagues at work are also very interested in the contest and we are judging the pics together...still the vote is mine!LOL
Great idea for 5 favorites! Will you show us the runner ups like you did last year?
Adina

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow, just got done going through the Home Garden category, and I now have some serious yard envy! LOL

Some of these categories are SO HARD to judge!

Balotesti, Romania(Zone 5a)

Congratulations to all winners! Excellent photos!

Santa Fe, NM

I second that! Congratulations to all.

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Wow, such fantastic photos!

Hack

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Glorious photos! What a treat for the eyes.

Thanks, Dave, for making the contest possible!

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, that was difficult! Some categories were so packed with good shots that I couldn't get below 15 favorites. Had to get really ruthless there at the end! LOL.

I do enjoy the contest each year. So great to see photos from everyone.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Talk about a bunch of talented photographers and interesting perspectives! I looked at ALL the photos and really struggled before I voted. My lips are sealed but so many of you are right here and your pics never cease to amaze me.

Thanks, Dave, for the sheer enjoyment of making this possible.

Cudos to all you Winners and Runner Ups!
