Good day everyone! Welina me ke aloha!

Hi Jean, your Bromeliad is Billbergia pyramidalis 'Concolor'. They're quite strikingly beautiful; I have a lot of them.

The rain has let up but now there is Vog. Hope the windward weather returns soon.

good afternoon everyone! aloha ahiahi to Dave when he gets up...

FYI to anyone, and don't worry Flowers: if you win the lottery, the check will come certified mail.

The only reason I can think of to cash a check like the ones trying to go through our account is desperation in this economy.

When I feel REALLY bad is when they try to put it through again. That means they realize they've lost double the funds...

Trina, the snow melt would be good for your plants!

Moon, I'll take the heat over the cold. I typed something about the 2 weather patterns meeting in the middle, but it just didn't sound right! ^_^

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Moon, why did I click on your link for JJs while I was eating lunch???

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Aloha Dave! Not fair! You are using words that I can't find in the HI dictionaries.
Welina me ke aloha! ______allowed have good/hello????

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Venice, did you see Fedex man yet?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I now have tons of pots. They are just the greenhouse kind but I don't have to worry about where I can plant my beets. Not too many of the 6-pack size but many size up from that. Crudy dirty, mostly years of dust and dead spiders. yeak! I need a dry sunny day to clean all my pots now. It is sunny now but need to check if it will rain later.

Kassy, I remember when I lived in Madison, WI that the snow was deep enough that it had to be shoveled for Halloween!

Moon, sorry about your spongy weather. So glad I don't live down there!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I went up top looking for something and laughed.

Moon, did you ever see the movie 'sideways'? Your merlot comment reminded me of the movie.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, nothing yet. I have a note on my door to leave packages. Sometimes they would forget to leave a note and I would find a package at the apartment office weeks later. Or else if I wasn't here, it was too late to pick it up at the office.

Pretty flowers. Moon, I copied that link but I am not interested in looking at bugs!!!

Keaau, HI

Hi Carol!

Using a modern dictionary to translate Hawaiian to English can be problematic, as Hawaiian language does not work the same way that English does.

Welina me ke aloha, is an old Hawaiian greeting of affection, seldom used anymore.

An English equivalent would be: Hello, how are you!

(Zone 5b)

hi all! Is it lunch time? I'm exhausted. I'm just going to try to grab a nap (that's like the cosmic code for the phone to start ringing).
Nothing can be done for a concussion...he's pretty dazed still....needs rest. I made an appt for him today, then he has to follow up with trauma clinic and a cognitive eval. he took a pretty good hit, road was closed for an hour.
who's making brownies? I'll take one :)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, so sorry about your FIL. Hope he heals well.

Dave, welina me ke aloha! Tahalo for the translation.

Keaau, HI

Hi Lynnie, make sure the guy takes it easy, till medical professionals make sure nothing got rattled out of place.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, this is the spider plant I am throwing out. At least I don't want it. Maybe I should put it on freecycle.

Cool link moon. that person has really smal hands or really big bugs!!!

I also got a $25 coupon for Brecks a while back and the local newspaper gave me 6 weeks free weekly paper.

have to get busy have got nothing done except making a list of geography terms and definitions for the GS to match to help him study for test tomorrow, and one for a science test on Friday.
I don't think I done this much when I was in school!!

Smiley I don't get checks, but I sure get a lot of emails that I have money waiting for me to claim in other countries and here lately I have thousands of dollars on my Lowes debit card..wish I had one...

Good Afternoon all

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I don't know the name of this plant. Does it go inside or outside?

Thumbnail by venice62
Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Don't know the name of this one. It does look pretty ragged in this photo but there are 2 pots of them. So between them, I think I can find some good plants.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Lynnie I am trying to be good!!! No ice cream for a week... been to darn cold..

Hope you FIL gets along alright.

Telling myself to get busy

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks much Dave. I thought it might be Billbergia, just wasn't sure of species or variety. Now, maybe the other three will get jealous and bloom....grin

Lynn, glad your FIL is doing as well as he is. Know that must have been scary for all of you.

Smiley, sorry the bugs put you off lunch....grin....have some walnut merlot....grin. I haven't seen Sideways....any good? So sad to take advantage of folks...hell holds a special place for that type of crook.

Venice, glad you have plenty of pots for beets and beans and lettuce. I find bugs fascinating. Learned with 3 younger brothers not to let critters scare me or the boys would keep doing yukky things to get a rise. The sheer size of some of the ones in that link are amazing...but don't want them visiting here...grin

To you all, Welina me ke aloha. Moon

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I thought this one sort of looked liked a wondering jew but really don't know its name. When I tried to find a photo of the ID Dave gave me, that is when I got the Trojan! Again, I think I will find some good plants between them

Thumbnail by venice62

This is the rose bush that person dug up from the ground before she left town.

Would appreciate it if anyone can ID these plants and let me know if they go inside or outside.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Venice do you run avast ativirus on your computer.
It runs in real time so when you click on a link that has something it puts this big warning on the screen.
Can download it for free.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Venice. first plant is Oxalis triangularis purple shamrock...inside for winter.
second plant birdnest Sanseveria great plant and it looks fine, just give it some TLC. also inside for winter
third plant Tradescantia purpera...purple wandering jew also inside for winter.

I'll get ya some links.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

McAfee has a window that comes up when it finds something. But the Trojan just locked up my computer. Just to be safe, I ran a full scan and nothing was there. I think I am ok.

Keaau, HI

Hi Carol,

Your first purple plant is an Oxalis.

After that is Sansevieria raffilii var. glauca.

The second purple plant is Tradescantia pallida 'Purpurea'.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, thanks! For plants that were going into the trash, I think they are pretty good. Not fond of the wondering Jew but I will take care of it and see what happens.

The birdnest, why is it a great plant? Does it bloom or something? I thought maybe it would be kind of like a weird MIL tongue.

I guess there were other plants there, bleeding heart, etc. But I am happy with what I have.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks Dave! Is it still raining there?

Sunny here today, but with some Vog.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Venice, think Dave's ID for sansevieria may be more accurate. I couldn't find a link for it, but this may help.

http://www.theamateursdigest.com/sansevs.htm and it is a member of the MIL, rattlesnake plant family.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, thanks so much for those link!!

Dave, I think vog is better than vain!!! lol

This message was edited Oct 7, 2009 3:08 PM

Keaau, HI

Vog is smog from the volcano. Very unhealthy to breathe.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I just really like the sansevierias because they are so easy to grow. They don't require much care, just watering when they are dry and a little fertilizer a couple times a year. They will live in low light conditions, or some in full sun. On the common MIL tongue, the leaf will grow to be quite tall so long as there is no damage to the tip. Once the tip gets damaged, the leaf stops growing. Many of them, with enough light exposure, will bloom.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That is the same problem Tina from Montserrat is having right now isn't it? No wait, they are having ash flow problems, not vog. Nevermind....think I have cottage cheese for brains today....can't think straight and can't spell....sheesh...

Jesup, GA

Hi all. Lynnie, get better soon ,to your FIL. Wish we could all get together and have a party. Think it would be a hoot!! The mention of Merlot got me thinking. I dont know about yall but I feel a little over due for some fun. Of course there is always the morning after the (FUN) when we tend to pay for it. When the old noggin feels like it will fall off and hit the floor. If we all got together for a party I have a feeling it would be worth the head ache.
