lol I thought it was because of too much sun. ok.
THE BASIL CARAVAN
Good day everybody! Aloha aku!
That Traveler's Tree is Ravenala madagascariensis. It is a dominant component of the vegetation in Madagascar.
Here is Strelitsia nicolai, the Giant Bird of Paradise, from South Africa.
I'll go get some more photos of the Family.
Full sun means at least 6 hours of direct sun. If the plants are wilting back a bit, it may be due to heat reflected from the concrete. The rule of thumb is 1 inch of water per week (including rain), and at least two inches of mulch to keep the roots cool and slow evaporation and help keep weeds at a minimum. Anything you plant that says full sun should go in the bed that gets the most sun. If the plant instructions say full sun/part shade, then it needs at least 3 or 4 hours of direct sun.......if it says part shade, it can handle morning sun/afternoon shade....
Hope that helps clear things up for ya.
Hi Dave. Hope your day is dry and sunny. Looking forward to the pictures...
sheesh Dave! How can you stand looking at all that beauty all day???
Here is a close-up of the flower of Ravenala madagascariensis. Hard to get very close as the plant is over 30 ft. tall!
The tree is known as the Traveler's Tree as it's leaf petioles hold water and one could tap several pints of potable water by drilling into the bottom of the leaf stem; giving sustenance to weary travelers.
beauty with a function!
keep 'em coming! A nice deterrent to 54 degrees & overcast.
Sorry you are having chilly and cloudy, Smiley....What happened to Venice? We are moving furniture around and trying to do the fall cleaning, so I am in and out....depending on whether the laptop stays plugged in or not....grin.
Great pictures Dave....guess the addition is on hold for rain...
I think Venice went outside, Moon. Haven't seen Trina all day either.
do you know who the dude in the red shirt is, with Jimi? he looks familiar...
Hey Rachel!
The guy in the red shirt is Mitch Mitchell; holding the balloon is Noel Redding; they all were the Experience.
One piece of blocking sawed so far today (some progress)!
those water drops almost look like that olde tyme glass.
peek a boo!
there you are! were you digging in the dirt all day?
you went outside with your paint set, didn't you?
Hey Julie when did you get that box I sent you?
and no I wasn't digging in the dirt had to deal with the vet
oh great I finally get home and can play on here and you all take off!...LOL
Dave don't you know better than to tell me what they are by now? LOL I have to find some place to get a heat mat so I can start my new passies.....I guess I need to go out and dig up some of these lilies for Julie too since the vet thing took a whole lot longer than it was supposed too
sorry Trina, I don't remember when I got the box. Mid last week, I think. Are you digging ditch lilies? The orange ones with the spots that look like a claw?
getting ready to...Carol's gonna kick my butt..I got an envelope full of seeds but I don't remember who they are from or what I traded for them.....oh now do, that's cause my seeds aren't ready yet....duh!!!
never try to take 2 dogs to the vet at once either!
taking one is hard enough sometimes.
"you think" Dave? "I think" that's the first time I've heard that!
that's purrrty. I like the way the marbles splay out, like the universe.
I know shocking on Dave's part.
As for the Dogs. I was leaving to take Tinkerbell, aka the Chupacabra, for her Rabies and distemper shots, when I heard Skipper whinning, the buttmunch next door has been throwing his beer bottles over our fence I found out this morning when Skipper finally comes to me and has a busted piece of one sticking all the way through his paw! so I get him in the jeep and then Tinkerbell. Well for obvious reasons the Vet opts to see Skipper first, well he yelped when Doc touched his paw, and the Chupacabra decided she was a monkey and climbed a bookshelf before I could get her...it took 3 hours to get her little butt down.
Vet said he had never seen a dogdo that before, well let me tell you if there had been cheetohs up there we'd still be trying to get her down. Boys are outback making sure thier is no more glass and both dogs are sucking some sympathy love from anyone who will pay attention in the living room....big babies
ok Dave if that is a bromelaid type plant then I have had something similar to marbles before but it's been awhile I could be wrong
and I was waiting for the bad houseplant part...LOL

Thanks Jean and Dave for trying to ID this strange but pretty plant I have blossoming in the living room.......
I wish it got to be 12 feet high Dave..................No I don't. Strugled enough times with a cactus that was over 6 feet tall to take it out side in the spring, and a grapefruit tree.
Now, that was only one of the seeds that I planted.........Might be interesting to see what the rest of the seeds turn out to be.
OK, need to go start loading the car and then will be eating and heading back home tonight.
Do you think the kids will be a little surprised when they walk out the door in the morning to leave for work and a different car is sitting there?
They knew I needed one, I just didn't tell them how fast I was moving on getting one^_^
uhg...15 yo is throwing a temper tantrum...so unattractive!
Hey some of these seeds I can put out outside now......too bad the outside wasn't ready for that!....oh well live and learn!....wow the plants and stuff for next years back garden are going to be awesome!!!! and a whole lot cheaper with more variety than the front
teeth...can I make a whip with the leaves? Please? Pretty please with sugar on top?
Hello! Planted my dogwood sprouts and tried cleaning the leaves of my plants. Did some errands, etc. And that is how the day goes!
Aloha ahiahi Dave! The colors are absolutely beautiful (especially at 4:29)and the patterns the leaves make are amazing! I am just in a ahh! (sp)
