Bummer, Jen.
Did some more cleaning / weeding. Another nice day for that. Amazing how many weeds get nice fall color.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 54
58 and breezy here.....did more outside stuff with the time I had to work outside today....buttoned up my outdoor garden sink and took my bird baths in. Now, we're headed off to take our 7-year-old grandson out for a birthday dinner/visit. Got an oil delivery yesterday because the prices are good now. Heats on but set at 58 degrees.....cooler at night. Busy, busy time!
Cool & not supposed to go up to 60 tomorrow. We came back from getting groceries & found the dwarf peony on the porch. It is planted & don't have to worry until next spring.
A lot of wind damage in our area, but the only thing down in our yard are a zillion pine cones---and needles! It was around 60 here, but we spent the day in Williamstown, MA---went to the Clark Art Museum---a real gem of a place. Stopped at an orchard, & got more apples---my fav Mutsus, & some Winesaps----sorry I bought those----they taste like vinegar.
zillion pine cones down here too - i picked them all up today off the lawn - my favorite yard tool is the big two wheel trash container that different services use - the previous owners left theirs behind (i drive to the dump) and the service never picker it up - i filled it twice full of cones - left them by the fire pit, good for starting camp fires
Had masses of cones and needles down also. Still, I know the best is yet to come. In about 4 weeks I should be thigh high in very orange needles.
My veggie garden is orange from all the needles in it. Looks like I'll need lots of lime in the spring!
Marilyn - I love the Clark Art Museum! It is truly a gem!
Bill - that's a great score to have that trash container on wheels! I never thought of using it in the yard! You clever guy!
we had rain this evening.
Temp predicted to stay in 50s tomorrow.

rain is on the way here as well
Sprinkled enough to wet the driveway, but has stopped for now---heading to farm to babysit---Louise, I could have spent many more hours at the Clark!
53 and raining. Dodged the rain to count the buds left on a reblooming iris. 13!
Wow. Gonna burn them?
oh yeah - great for getting the fire pit started - and i couldn't just mow them up - was bent over to 2 hours getting them yesterday and my gloves where covered with sap - by the end i did not even have to grab them just had to touch them and they would stick - working on the wall got it off the gloves
Rain in the am then the sun came out, nice day. 75
Wow Jumper how big is that iris?
Note for Jumper2 It is an IB (intermediate) iris. More buds in each socket eveidently.
whoo, it is actually hot out there.
Gee, Jen---we've had drizzle & fog all day :( And Bill, my cones are exactly where the wind left them!
It has 4 bloom stalks.
Still raining, DD is at a football game tonight. She's in the marching band. Too wet for me.
its 47F and suppose to be 52 this afternoon
hoping to get some stuff done in the garden
have till tuesday to bring in my
tender perennials since it will be
a hard freeze tuesday night and will
loose them if I cant get them in
Very cloudy and 52 degrees here. It's going down to 28 tonight. I'm just waiting for the sun to come out. Foliage colors on our road were gorgeous yesterday when I returned home.
50 and sunny. Not sure when it stopped raining.
64 Busy all morning so better hump myself out to get a bit of garden work done.
Rained this morning party cloudy the rest of the day and windy.
Took some more coleus cuttings and cleaned up some plants to bring in for the winter.
Cooking chili in crock pot for a chili cook off at church tonight.
Wind came up this afternoon, so did not go outside. Also my weekend to arrange church flowers (with a partner). Church has a cement floor & stepping up & back always kills my ankles.
louise thanks for the heads up - jack may visit here as well so i took in a big bag of tomato's, the last cukes, and summer squash. still a LOT of green t's out there though.
Friends ripen tomatoes on all the windows & counters in the kitchen. they had none this yr because of blight & they grow them from seed.
Good luck at the chili cook off, Jen---Iris, my turn again to bring the flowers for church---I did cosmos, dahias, asters, & montauk daisies. The weather here was 60's---took the pooches behind the dam---a huge orange spider crossed the road by my feet---ugh!
It was just saying 'hello'.
Came in 2nd place.
a cold but nice day
just wondering how you did in the contest Jen... I always wanted to enter the towns contest... just never have yet
39 now going up to 62... frost warning for tonight
We are due for frost too
This thread fell off my thread watcher at some point...Great rainbow pic Pixie--and that chipmunk pic is priceless! (photo contest worthy?) I'm not much liking the increasing stormy weather, but love to collect the pine cones. They are great for holiday decorations and as fireplace starters. (I used to have one of them also) Also, Columbus likes to chew on them and toss them! Frost tonight here too. :-(
There was a bit of frost last night in normaly shady places. Brisk! today. That is all you can say about it.
