Spooks and ghosts and weeping ladies...oh my! Pt 6

(Zone 7a)

I knew better than to turn off the computer last night. What an interesting story about your grandmother. She did want you to have the picture. And your dog. He must be a sweetie.

Springfield, IL(Zone 5b)

So glad to hear your 'hound pulled through ok..those greyhounds have such thin skin, healing that stuff up is scary..ours tore a huge gash in her side coming out of the anesthesia during a routine dental and due to the location of the wound, she kept tearing the stitches every time she'd get up to go potty. We were on 24 hour hound-duty for several months while it finally healed via second-intention...so I fully understand how scary it can be.
Back to original topic, I am loving this thread and everyone's ghost stories:)

(Zone 7a)

It IS scary. They are essentially our children and we feel horrible when something bad happens to them.

Waterloo, IA

glad your grey healed up well too! Ced's got way to big to close from the infection and had to heal by secondary intention too. It was such a slow process initially but then one day it just started closing and went quickly. Do you have pictures? I see you're from Toledo, did you happen to adopt your grey from REGAP in Detroit? Just wondering, I was an adoption advocate for them for a long time before I moved :)
(Sorry to steer away from the original topic!)

oh, here's Cedric

Cedric is a lovely gentleman. I've always thought that greyhounds were beautiful dogs. Wish I had room for one.

Never stopped in to this forum before - certainly did not know that you were all telling each other of ghost experiences!! I read it all and just decided to reply at least about the ghost radio. Our last house was definatly haunted but we expected that none of that would follow us to the new house. Mostly they did not , but when standing in the foyer or at one end of the master bedroom you can definatly hear a radio playing. Sometimes music and sometimes talking. I heard it for years and did not bother to mention it to anyone because I just knew they would not believe me or at least give me "Oh yeah, right Mom". At the last family party the subject came up and I was shocked to hear my husband tell them about our 'ghost" radio! I said I heard it too. We looked at each other like we never met, then one of our daughters said "really? I thought it was just me and did not want to tell anyone" Then another daughter admitted she heard it also. So - let the world think I am nuts, at least I am not the only one.

(Zone 7a)

You are most certainly NOT alone. Others of us have had the same experiences. If you have more to share, please, do!

(Zone 7a)

And how is Cedric, doing, Kaprys?

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow, maybe whoever used to live there had a radio on 24-7 and the sound just soaked into the environment. Interesting!

Ced is doing well! We had some really bad storms here a couple nights ago (70 mph straight winds, multiple big trees down and wires too). Our house didn't have so much as a twig down but across the street there were 2 big trees and a wire down, behind us a tree fell on a house (no one hurt). We are still cleaning up today. Ced was actually very good, put himself in a corner and shook but was OK. He really did not like when we lost power. One of our others put herself under the bed several hours before the storm and refused to come out. All 3 were very unhappy to go out to go to the bathroom several hours before too. Still amazes me they are that sensitive.

On another note, I saw an article a couple weeks ago about a radio in a house that has been playing Pearl Harbor broadcasts by itself too. I'll see if I can find it and link here...

This is the blurb about it... sorry, not Pearl Harbor broadcast but WWII music.

...and it's not even plugged in! Weeeeeeiiiiirrrd!

Bolingbrook, IL(Zone 5a)

Our first house had one bedroom that was so uncomfortable that even my husband avoided it. I had to move the "baby" to another room. I swear something was in that closet. One day , a weekend since my hubby was home, one of our girls started crying because she had to go to that room. We went to her right away so we all got a look - there was a hand floating there with the palm forwards like a traffic cop. We decided to honor the wishes of who ever it was!!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Okay, that is reeeeally creepy! Did you move out right away?

(Zone 7a)

Ditto to Ky.

Bolingbrook, IL(Zone 5a)

Now that it is just my husband and I it is usually quiet here. We each pretty much do our own thing. In the evening we often watch a movie together in the living room. Unless we get interrupted :) No, really we just keep on watching after muteing the sound - a natural reaction I think - but the sounds we hear are a little disconcerting. Our hall floor is very sqeaky and no one can walk down that hall unnoticed. But the problem is, it squeaks like someone is walking on it when of course there is no one. I know houses do squeak sometimes but that sound has a different value to it. Sometimes things happen but such little things. Refridgerator door open, wet places on the floor, and no we do not have a dog. We used to have one. She was with us for 20 years and still I miss her. Sometimes I think I can hear her going in her circles and settling down for a nap. If this person did come with us from the other house I can only assume he really likes us and means no harm.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

And maybe your beloved doggie is still there!

(Zone 7a)

That's what I was thinking. Your pup loved you and wants to still be with you.

It had been quiet here for a while, but last Friday, when I was home alone something happened. Nokas was volunteering at the Senior Center, they pick her up around 8:00 AM. Well that morning, as I was sitting in my room reading, I heard her cry out and groan, like when her back or leg hurts. I got out of the bedroom and I went to see if she was okay. There was no one home, but me. I returned to the bedroom and looked at my alarm clock and it read 10:30 AM. Nokas had been gone for quite sometime. It is bad enough when it mimics her voice to call out my name, but to cry out like her, is a bit unnerving.

Oh, my....time to call in the ghostbusters?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Lol, no I will learn to live with it. I asked it, not to do that again; we will see if it does or not.

I haven't heard or seen anything lately. I haven't been paying attention, either. I have a neighbor who has been running a saw and a tile cutter, so, I have shut off the hearing and am trying to ingore it all.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Kawonkamish Netopaog,

kwanjin: Sorry to hear you have all that constant noise. We have three neighbors who tend to make a lot of noise. They all like to work on cars. Banging, sawing and the smell of soldering. We also have, down the block, a man who owns a metal forge. The smell of the forge is very strong, depending on the wind direction.

Well, so far they have not made the groaning sounds, since I asked them not to. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay that way.
Here is something new. You all know about the footsteps I hear, well for the past week, while I have been in the bathroom, I have heard sounds of someone walking outside the bathroom door. It sounds, as if they are walking up to it and 'hopping' from one foot to the other; like when you really have to go and you are trying to control yourself. One time I heard the walking and 'hopping', then it was followed by a rap on the wall next to the door. Each time the sounds have happened I called out, thinking it was Nokas; it was not her. There was no response to my inquiry and when I opened the door there was no one there. I checked on Nokas and she was fast asleep. It happened this morning too, around 10:30 AM. I am alone in the house right now, because Nokas is volunteering at the Senior Center.

Our noise isn't that bad, really. I get annoyed when it's every day. LOL

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

That would be scary when you're home alone--scary enough when you're not, but...I'd be calling the local ghostbusters!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Any updates to report, anyone?? I have one.
Occasionally I think about the ghost I saw in the old army barracks at Ft. Jackson, S.C., where I did basic training. I've always wondered if anyone else ever saw it. I did a search on the 'net last night, and sure enough...
I typed in "369th AG" ghost and there it was!

(Zone 7a)

Wow! I'm going to do that now. Nothing to report except the white cat lately. It hangs around my peripheral sight.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I was wondering if you were still seeing him!

Yep, when I was in basic training I was late getting outside to meet the drill sergeant one morning, and got in trouble for it. So that night, I set my alarm to get up fifteen minutes early so I could get a head start on getting showered, dressed, and making my bed (yes, it had to be perfect, or the sargeant would pull off the covers and make you do it over). I was praying that I would hear the alarm, as it was only a watch alarm.

Every night, we took turns doing 'fireguard' shifts, as is customary in the military, to make sure the enemy doesn't sneak up on you and to make sure the old WWII barracks didn't burn down with us inside, I'm sure!

It was late fall, so it was chilly, even in South Carolina. The girl who had the last fireguard shift woke me up right before my alarm was to go off. I felt her poke me, and as I woke up, I nodded my thanks and headed off to the shower. She was wrapped up in her blanket, looking like a hooded monk. I couldn't see her face, as it was dark inside the hood, and her flashlight was pointed at me. I made a mental note to check the guard schedule later so I could find out who it was and thank her later. Funny, I didn't remember mentioning my plans to get up early to anyone.

That evening, as we finished another hard day's training, we filed back into the barracks. I stopped to check the fireguard schedule and found the name of the girl who was on the last shift that morning. I went up to her and said something like, "Oh, thanks so much for getting me up this morning, I really appreciate it!"

Her surprised reply: "I didn't wake you up this morning!"

Here's a link to one of the sites that talks about the ghost. Scroll down to 'Columbia, Ft. Jackson', and it will be the second one.

KyWoods---

Does the link above have data on other States as well--besides South Carolina?
I would love to have this kind of index for Maryland....

Thanks, Gita

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

No, just South Carolina, but if you do a search for "haunted Maryland" lots of things come up.

(Zone 7a)

You know, I've mentioned being touched or poked by something or someone before and have always thought everyone felt it. Someone else came on and said they have never been touched. HAS anyone else been touched? Just a slight brush or stroke on your arm or leg? Or am I really crazy.

Waterloo, IA

No, I feel like that a lot. You're not crazy! :)

(Zone 7a)

Whew! Thanks, I was getting worried. ^_^

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I was grabbed by someone once. I was rushing down the hall to the bathroom and run into someone in the dark hallway. (Power out by storm.) I was grabbed to prevent my falling and than let go off. When I got back to bed, my husband was sitting on the side of the bed. I asked him why he didn't say something when he grabbed me, but I was glad he did not let me fall. He said he didn't know what I was talking about that he had just woke up. I told him what happened and he said I was dreaming. The next day I showed him the bruises on my upper arms. Bruises that showed finger marks. After that when I would go down the hallway at night, I could feel someone standing aside in the hall to let me pass. I know someone was sharing housing with us. My husband still thinks I was crazy. That was the second house I lived in with a 'visitor'.

(Zone 7a)

I feel much better now. I think the man who lived here before may still be here. They bought the house new in 1972. His widow is who we bought it from in 2004. He may be who belongs to the voice I hear when I play my music too loud. I feel a brush, as if from fingertips, about once a week and I've seen my DH look behind him and rub his arm like something touched him.

I think he enjoys the garden, too. I feel someone watching me, on occasion, out there and I'm pretty sure it isn't the neighbors.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

It would be interesting to address him by name (if you know it) and see if there is a response.

(Zone 7a)

We know the ladies last name so, I'm assuming, his last name would be the same. Some of my neighbors know his first name. I should ask again. That's a good idea, hanks. I'll play the music loud tomorrow and give you a report of what, if anything, happens.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

It must really be loud if it's loud enough to wake the dead, LOL...sorry, couldn't resist. Looking forward to hearing your results!

(Zone 7a)

LOL No worries. I thought the same thing while typing it.
