Happy Saturday ladies!
A short sojourn here, got up and spent too much time in the bathroom!!
After effects from greasy fried stuffs last night!
Anywhoooooo.... I hope you all have a fantastic Saturday.
It's off to get new quilting supplies. By the way Bonnie, I forgot to mention, since the introduction of rotary cutters, quilting has become so much easier.
Hope to be back in time for the LSU vs GA.
Oops... talked to our own Ga peach (Deborah) and she's still smoke free! How wonderful!
See you all later!
Lucky you Jaye!! Enjoy your new supplies. I am going to attempt a trip to the nursery to keep my mind clear today. I want a corton for some reason.
Have a gread day all.
A corton? Or is it a 'croton'? Show us when you get it Maid M! Have fun, buy one of all colors!
Geaux LSU Tigers!!! Geaux LSU!!
Do cutting mats wear out? I bought new blades and threw out the old one, and the new one wont cut! Boo hoo!
LOL, thank you Jaye, as you can tell my mind is "off balance" more than usual today. It is croton but the funny thing is, I wrote that to Kim yesterday and she replied " why do you want a crouton?" Duh, good thing you know we both are blondes.
Go Noles--Pleezzzeeee!!!!!!!!
Yes they certainly can Audrey, depending on the age and how you store them.
Well, mine's several years old, and got stored wrong. and I used my hairdrier to straighten it out. (NOT) Guess this means a new one!
Good Morning!
Wow, Thanks for the stories on Jury Duties.
Mine ill be one i never forget.
Got to say i felt quite honored to have done my Civil Duty.
Sat for years, this being the first time to actually sit on the Jury was very educational and
well, now that I have experienced it, I do not wish to do it again.
The Judge was very good and kept us in pretty good spirits considering.
LOL, He caught me in the hall! Yikes, no one said we couldn't leave the Jury room, so thought I would have a smoke
after the very bland lunch, lol...So i am waiting for an elevator in empty hall, while Judge appears all snazey in his suit, looks at me and say's aren'[t you a Jury member, I smile and yes your honor, oh my gosh, he sterns up and say what are you doing out here all by yourself?? I said thought I could go have a smoke, he says Your not suppose to leave the Jury room, now go back in! Yes your honor and I hightale it back...A minute later, another Jury member was escorted back by a debuty!
At the break, we were told no one leaves the Jury room! ROFLOL, now ya tell us!
Anyway, it was really hard to decide someones fate, which we did unamously vote the decision.
Like the Judge said, as long as we followed the letter of the law...It was a the right decision.
We each got a certificate of our Civic duty too, which, I guess is kind of neat.
So then we leave the courtouse, a debuty escort to the garage, Get on the elevator at 6:30 P.M. and bam we get stuck!!
We were stuck for 5 minutes, got a guy in the back clausterphobic, and one tired debuty who just wanted to go home, me cigerette in hand...Finally engineers comes and gets us out..Get to garage, where I parked on the 3rd floor...Couldn't find my van! Fortunatley another Jury lady saw me, and offered to drive me around! I was so releived, almost broke down in tears. Then it was an uneventful relaxing 1.5 hour ride home, jammed to some music, thankful this was over.
When i arrived home at 7:45, My wonderful family had a fire going, a beer in the fridge for me and a mouthwatering Salmon dinner ready in half hour...I was thankful to be home and just be with my family...
Anyway that was my experience, now to finish my tote...lol.
Got to catch up with everyone, so will be back later.
Glad you got to talk with our GA Peach, I did too!! Isn't it awsom on the still no smoking?!
See you later.
wow - jury duty - I got sent a letter once, and told my boss about it in case I had to miss some time. Turned out to be a false alarm - I phoned in, and didn't have to go anyway. I was supposed to phone in to find out what my instructions were, and forgot to.....
So, I've never sat on jury duty. They put you up, if it's more than 1 day, and you don't get paid for your first 11 days, and your company doesn't pay. From day 11-49 you get $40/day, and 50 days & up you get $100/day.
Since most court cases are not for much time spent, basically - you don't get paid!! You have to go if called, however. I agree - it's your civic duty!!!!
~Susan~
Pretty sad, it is mandatory for one to sit on the jury if selected, and you don't get paid! I don't know what they pay here int he US? Could you take leave, or do you just take the day off?
I have to take the day(s) off, because it's my civic duty.
The company can't refuse you, either. It isn't something that the company pays you for, but I suppose you could take your vacation time (what a waste, eh?)
~Susan~
I think it all depends on the state and the company itself where you work.
The company I was working for would pay $50 per day. That was very generous, since the state would only pay $12- 25 per day. Of course, if you're compensated by the company, you don't qualify for state.
Ahhhh tummy's full..half time now..
Sistah Judy, I do hope the next one will be years later and by then you won't miss ciggies!!!
You all should have been briefed about not leaving the Jury room.
Poor you, you must have been frazzled. At least you made it home .
Starting on the 11 kitchen towels. Any volunteers?
This message was edited Oct 3, 2009 5:20 PM
Jaye - you want someone to use 'em? Cuz if I make 'em, they wouldn't be worth using LOL
11 kitchen towels? my my.... what's the name of That swap?
~Susan~
Errr... kitchen towel swap :D
The bad thing is the towels I bought online shrunk after washing. So.. got to add some length.
ah me. what a day. went for a load of compost with Randall. forgot my sunglasses. bright daylight, beautiful day-------
had such a headache by the time we got home, tried to eat and my stomach lurched. ended up in bed the rest of the day. darn it all, got planting to do!
oh well, got the compost, so I may end up potting things up tomorrow instead of going to Parade of Homes.
I did that on our last bike ride Bon, went off and forgot my sunglasses...not fun.
Sage decided to paint Gerbera Daisies today. Last week I told her how, and she traced off the pattern and transferred it to her watercolor paper. Today She decided to start painting so she told me what colors she wanted on her palette and went to work. The next time she is over we will mask out some areas and add another layer.
I should be shot. since I'm growing cataracts, my eyes are twice as sensitive. think I'm going to have to buy a second pair that stay in the car. please excuse, but I still can't read much. will read tomorrow.....after I pot some.
how is everyone?
Laura, that's beautiful! already!
A budding artist for sure. I think I should come for a lesson too.
Trisha, that is a really nice painting--great teacher and it looks like Sage has some talent also.
Bon, put a pair everywhere you can think off--that is what I have to do!!! LOL
good idea Marion! I already went for the transition lens, but they don't darken enough now with my developing cataracts and migraines.
think I'm going to head back to bed. sweet dreams, sweet sistahs.
Bon, take care and do what Marion suggests, leave a pair everywhere.
I do the same.
Goodness Sage! I'm your #1 fan!
You're a good teacher Trisha. She paints like a faery ^_^ or to quote Kel.. "Dang! She's good!"
Uhhh.. Twyla, I was kinda persuaded to do 11 towels by a certain wonderful sistah :D Think I bit off more than I can chew!! Lol!!
Maid M... by one touch down?? Bummer!!!
Well, it was the weirdest penalties ever thrown to the 2 teams today. If not for that 'unsportsman' conduct, which boosted LSU a further 15 plus 5 yards, Ga. would have been the winner.
If you had seen the game.. it was truly a head scratching one. When Scott (LSU) scored a touchdown with 46 seconds left in the last quarter, he raised 2 fingers to the sky and silently uttered a thanks... the umpire called it unsportsman!!! Another penalty that even puzzled the commentators.
Sis Deborah, if you're reading this... Ga was good.. we just got lucky!
I'm off to bed.. good night ladies.

Oh thanks Jaye. I started watching it but got sidetracked trying to get updated information on Mom. Fever had broke, still to weak to get herself up or move and hospitalized for several days--does have UTI again.
Susan, I am so glad you called today--it was a wonderful chat and just what the doctor ordered!!
BTW Jaye did you get your new goodies for quilting. I stopped by the Bernina grand opening today and watched a demo of the accu-cutter!! OH MY!!! Just might have to tell my kids about that for a gift idea--wait-- it is to expensive but oh how I like it. Talk about precision cutting.
Well I am off to bed before I resemble a pumpkin.
Be safe all.
Oooh.. didn't know about your mum being ill, Maid M.
Hope she recovers soon.
Yes, I've seen ads of the Accu Cutter. It's a miniature version of a die cutter. The price runs in the hundreds I'm sure, besides the different dies.
One day.. one day.. If you were my neighbour, we'd invest in one :D
That will save wear and tear on our wrists too!
Church tomorrow.. so might not see you all ladies till later in the evening.
Have a beautiful Sunday.
Try $349.99 and $20.00 up for the different dies. Oh you are so right about saving on the wrist--I have a sore one now.
Yes, she collapsed yesterday, no strenght to get up, stand or walk, no bladder control. My sister had to call someone to help carry her to the car so she could go to the emergency room--right after she called me and I am 8 hours away. Figure that one out. Long story-short version, fever down, UTI but they don't know what is causing the lack of ability to get herself up and move. The hospital is the absolutely best place she could be now. You must not have gotten your dmail I sent.
Rest well.
Morning everyone! Coffee is on.
Marion, sorry to hear about your Mom, sending out thoughts and prayers for her.
Please tell me what this cutter is?
Have a great day aeveryone!
Marion - prayers winging their way to Mom. Please keep us informed.
Isn't that cutter amazing? I saw a demo too and couldn't believe what it could do. I don't think I would warrant having it and I really don't use fancy cut pieces anyway. I'm still into squares, rectangles, and triangles and I can do those just fine with a rotary cutter and ruler...
The kids left this morning to go back to Colo It was a hectic few days here but oh so worth it......
Linda Kay, look it up on line and it will give you more information.
Barb, I agree but my daughter, Kim, is really interested. She doesn't seem to master the art of cutting with the rotary cutter and the machine really intrigued her. Humm maybe she will get on and I can borrow it every now and then. I have other things on my priority list for now--a new cutting table for one. Mine collapsed and is being held together by string, rubber bands and bubble gum as they say. LOL
I think we have a weather front moving in today as my head is pounding--oh well when the rains start, it will stop.
Thanks for the prayers for Mom--no news today and when I called she was out for test.
Have a wonderful day.
Marion watch for the sales at HD or Lowes for kitchen cabinet bases. That's what I have for a cutting table with a piece of 1" thick Melamine on top. It is just the right height and my cutting mats fit perfectly on it. My unit is the kitchen sink base and has four cabinet doors on it . Makes great storage too.....The only thing I had to add was a piece of 2x4 to brace the center part of the top as this is where the sink would normally go. I also put a small piece of luan across the back to keep things in there clean. Then you mount a piece of peg board over it and hang your rulers and cutters and scissors etc. Makes a great unit. Just a thought and we found it cheaper than some of these sewing cabinets/tables.
What a great -no-great idea. I would never have thought of that but will certainly check them out. Mine current table is so old they don't even make them like it anymore and is also to low for me. I am only 5'4" but I like my cutting table high--Kim also needs it as she is 5'10". Yeap, like her father who was 6' 3"!!!
Think I will go to HD or Lowe's tomorrow and see what they have. You have made my day!!!!!
Marion you know you and your mom are in our prayers. Hope she is better soon.
Bill is feeling better but still has a bad cough so no bike ride today...he is finally gaining some sense as he gets older. He sure doesn't need to be out this cool damp air right now... especially on a bike as he also has exercise induced asthma.
No ride leaves me with a whole day to see if he will help out with some inside projects like sorting through and getting rid of a whole mountain of clothes that neither of us need...I swear we could clothe a small nation with all the stuff we almost never wear "but we might sometime"...does anyone know what causes this illness??
Well, one of the things he IS doing today is cooking Sunday Brunch! Eggs and toast are one of the few things we allow him to cook...so guess I will go enjoy...talk to you all later.
Thanks Trisha, I just talked with Mom and they have gotten her up and sit her in a chair but she doesn't have the strength to do it on her own. Infection seems to be coming under control but at almost 91 how long before she can rebuild that energy. Does concern me some.
Off to bake a banana cake.
I would like to express my gratitude to the all the friends that have put me in their prayers, sent d-mails, cards and done for me in their special ways. I appreciate each and every one of you for trying to help me through this devastating tragedy. We laid Michael to rest on Wednesday 9/30/2006. I cannot describe my feelings, but I am trying to come to grips with the reality of the situation and start the healing process. I have been able to hold up enough to work for the most part but have sadly neglected my house and yard. Today I decided to get a project underway that I had put on hold. Camellia84 Lori (who some of you have may know) is working for Creative Concrete here in Jacksonville. She is painting the concrete statues, fountains and other wonderful garden objects and is incredibly talented. She has a thread on Garden Art on DG that you may want to check out. I had bought a fountain/statue that she will be painting for me. She came over today and she poured the concrete foundation that it will sit on. (I did help some!) I enjoyed having the company and staying busy. Now I will be planning the garden that will surround it in the spring. I am also planning a memorial garden that I will be planting in the spring.
I will try to post more as time goes by. I thank you my friends!
Linda
(((((((((((Linda)))))))))))))
mere words cannot express, I know, so I'll just say that you're in my thoughts & prayers.........I have never gone through what you have, so my words wouldn't have the ring of understanding, but know that I am thinking of you and yours.........
~Susan~
Sending lots of thoughts and prayers to you also, and a few (((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) too! Please take care, and come back here to talk, and/or vent anytime you feel the need!
I am sending prayers your way. One of the worst times anyone can go through, but with God's help we do survive. I have been following Camilla84's thread since she started painting all those wonderful statues. I am so in awe of her talent.
