and the eyes :) i think he might not be happy about this picture being posted :)
It's Fall in New England, starting today........
He's almost sideways. Hee hee he
You are killing me! Good thing I don't live within sniffing distance! Ever thought about opening a restaurant?
Actually, yes. My Brother Brian & I have thought about it but then you are expected to be open on Holidays and Weekends. No thank you.....i've waited to long to have them off! lol
We are still toying with the idea of a bakery, cakes, pies, cream horns(rolls), Eclairs!! He makes the best eclairs!!!!!!! Pick your filling.....butterscotch, chocolate, pistacio, or tradional vanilla. MMmmm good!
Any sugar free?
Um as a matter of fact he does a sugar free filling! Our Dad was a Brittle Diabetic so brother has some recipes. ^_^
a bakery means up at 3AM
Just gained another pound reading this thread----blackberry cheesecake---OMG! Not much colorful foliage around as yet---
I'll work the weekends! I do now anyway...and the food is not good! (I just cleaned up that opinion for the kids...)
I just threw the makings for bread into the bread machine. It should smell good soon.
Lately i've been waking up at 4 or so and not being able to get back to sleep. I believe it's all part of that mid-life crap i'm stuck in the middle of. It will be all worth while if I get my Candy Apple Red Mustang Covertible in the end! LOL
There's an end?......62 and still in mid-life crisis!
Are you trying to depress me?? Ok, Hawaii or the Mustang....will take either.
.... "and a blackberry cheese cake for desert".... groan.... no way to invite myself..... groan. Wait! I really, truly have a Candy Apple Red 1992 Miata! How bout I petal to the metal over to visit and we'll go for a whirlabout, pixie? Warning though, my DH won't drive with me cuz he says I drive too fast. Personally I believe a roadster would break if you drove slow. (I'm pretty sure thats covered in the manual).
My 21 year old son would love to have your Miata! He'd like to think he'll drive my Mustang someday too. hahaha Sure you can take me for a spin and i'll feed you BB Cheesecake.^_^
That Bleckberry cheescake sound YUMMY!
There's another thing I love about fall, I can start baking again.
Our church is currently putting together a cookbook and I'm typing out the veggies and sides, good thing it's not the dessert section!
Any interesting salads flowerjen? or are you worn to keep it super-secret classified until its published? That's a good thing if its a fundraiser cookbook.
I have thought about having a bakery too, but don't want all the hours and work. I do make cookie plates for sale for the holidays.
Nice pics, everyone!
I don't like burning bush, either. I have 2 out front in a shady garden under an oak that I'm thinking of cutting down soon. I have gotten rid of all the others here. Don't really want any invasives here at my place.
I've noticed a lot of color happening around here, mostly the swamp maples around the ponds and bogs and such. Very pretty! I took some shots this morning at a pond with nice reflections. Will post the pics when I get them uploaded.
Yummy! Muffins, stuffed peppers and beef stew sounds great, Celeste! When are you inviting me for dinner? OMG, you guys are making me hungry! Gotta go have some supper now.
Karen
I'm voting with CCG on the burning bush ^_^ I just put one in. Marginally hardy here but I want it to offset the ho-hum western yellows. I planted it behind karl forester grass near the mountain ash. I'm hoping it will all make a big fall kapow in our ho-hum yellowy autumn, unless of course I kill it and then it will just look dead.
There are better choices out there for sure - even for your frozen tundra!
Not many with oranch or red foliage in the fall Victor. We are the peoples of the ho-hum yellow autumn land. Colourful things that are zonally hardy here often need moisture, acidic soil or can't do chinooks. Quite a change from living in the NE and the PNW! I think I am really into bark colour and texture here for that reason. I don't remember being so fussy about bark before and I am now. Or maybe I'm just getting funky weird ^_^
Good luck, dahlianut, with your plan to add some brilliant red to the fall colors of the Alberta autumn landscape! As a former Westener (a Californian) I know what you mean about ho-hum yellow leaves.
Tonight we turned on our fireplace (wish I could say "lit," but it's a gas one) for the first time since last Spring. Another infallible sign of Fall. When it gets down to 64 degrees inside I know it's time!
What about the Northern Lights azaleas? You can acidify the soil.
I don't have the salad section.
There is an awesome corn souffle.
We meet once a month and have a certain theme each month so we can sample the recipes. So I can def vouch for it.
Maybe I should make you buy a cookbook? lol
1 can creamed corn
1 can whole kernel corn
1 8oz sour cream
2 sticks of butter melted(can be reduced to 1 1/2 sticks)
2 eggs
1 8oz box jiffy mix corn bread
Mix all ingredients together pour into greased casserole and bake 350 for 40 min or until golden brown
Orchid Lights is SO on my list Victor http://www.northscaping.com/InfoZone/FS-0025/FS-0025.shtml
and I would have scooped it up from a supplier in Vancouver BC in August when we were out except we swung back through WA and MT to visit dear DG friends and borderguys frown on shrubby things cross border hopping even if they are in a car seat. I have not been able to smooze this supplier into shipping so I will have to pick up. I have a 50 year old stash of pine duff that I'm saving to acidify for that baby o baby ^_^

Nice!
Flowerjen you sure should make us buy it cuz it's a fundraiser! There's quite a few churches here that do things like that. Interesting note on Calgary is that alot of churches are not maintaining their beds anymore from church funds. It's up to volunteers from the church to do it. Alot of my divisions and seedlings and some dahlias are going to churches now. I have so much respect for those who take this one in addition to their own gardens. WHEW! And here I am whining about bulbback and bulbbutt (blush)
If it is simple, healthy recipes for newbies like me, I'll buy one, Jen.
These are tried and true recipes that are used for family dinners, get togthers, etc on a regular basis. We didn't want any that were found somewhere and "oh that looks like it would be good" without ever trying it. The $ will be going to local soup kitchen or food bank some kind of food related charity, we haven't decided which one yet .
Wonderful! Flowerjen please dmail me when it's for sale please.
Nice.
Yes - me too.

Oh sure no problem, thanks (I didn't post the comment to sell them though)
Okay - forget it then.
Just kidding! ^_^
Yeah, me TOO! I love community/church cookbooks. Not only do you get regional dishes, but they are time-tested.
Sorry flowerjen you have been blatantly pimping a church cookbook. For sure you will get kicked off DG. Sorry poop happens. Tough DG rules. You're toast.
Flowerjen you make me smile ^_^
lol, I wouldn't be surprised.
I guess I'll have to start making a list.
d-mail me if you want one
"Sure you can take me for a spin and i'll feed you BB Cheesecake.:-)"
