Best/Worse/What did I learn today...visit with friends #122

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone, Coffee's ready and cruellers are out for you.
Did some stitching yesterday that I had never tried before. I love to piece quilts but haven't done the machine quilting on them very often. Well, yesteday I made a panel with some winter trees on it and quilted the tree trunks to look like bark!!! It came out pretty good so far. Now I need to quilt the ground and sky. It is truly a new learning experience.
Sounds like everyone is busy - very quiet here. It was so nice to read your post Betty. I miss you very much. What Christmas projects are in the works? Anything you can tell us about?
Tubby and Shirley - I hope today is better for you than yesterday and the tomorrow will be better still. Thanks, Tubby, for that breast cancer warning. We all need reminders now and then.
My son and his family are coming to NH from Colo next week so I'll be busy making sure this house is nice and clean. I guess I can't put off fall cleaning any longer. They haven't been home here in over five years. There have been lots of changes since then and the rest of the family is so excited they are coming too. It will be the first time that all my grandchildren will be together!!! Can you tell I'm excited???
I picked up some yarn last week put out by Bernat. It is hot pink and part of the sales to toward breast cancer (Susan Komen Foundation). So far I've made a pea cap with cables for me and started a scarf to match. I just needed something to work on at night when I'm watching TV. I just can't stand idle hands I guess. I'll send a picture when I finish.
Hope you all have a wonderful day and I'm ~~~~~ to everyone. ( I just can't remember who has posted and who hasn't but love you all )
Warm hugs, Barb

And You Thought You Had Computer Problems

'Hello, technical support, how can I help you' ?

LADY: 'Last night my computer started making a lot of hissing noises at me so I shut it down. This morning when I turned it on, the computer started hissing and cracking, then started smoking and then there was a bad smell, then nothing'.

SUPPORT: 'I will have a technician come over first thing this morning, just leave the computer just like it is, so they can find the problem and fix it, or change it out with another computer. Give me your address; phone number and the technician will be there just as soon as he can'.

When the technician got there, the lady showed the technician where the computer was, said what happened to it. This is what the technician found wrong. Take a look at the pictures. .. you won't believe your eyes!!!!!

And you thought you had computer problems!!

The technician told her: It must have been after the mouse!
The woman didn't think it was very funny at all.

Good morning everyone!

Oh EEEK! lol Tubby, so nice to see your morning smiles.

Barb, Thanks for coffee! Wow, you are a busy one. Sure hope your new quilt piece comes along nicey.
Oh so happy to here about your visitors! Must be the end of year time.

My Brother and his Wife are coming next week too! I am so excited, but now I have to get in gear and work on their Wedding Album I have been wanting to create! LOL, ahhhh nothing like last minute.

OMG, had some serious Drama last night, my girl had a serious issue with a friend. I didn't even realize it until she (DD) was literally screeching into the phone. At first thought she was laughing until I realized she was hysterical. All I could do was listen and hold her tight.
After a while Alissa came over to listen to the venting and then Julia came home, Of course we rallied with Breenie. This friend has taken advantage of my girl way too long...Big long drawn out story, bottom line, girl is just a scrawny bully!! Breenie decided she doesn't want to hang around this girl any longer, at least for a while...man it such a bummer she has to deal with such a person...
Liz and Betty, you met this little, hmmmhmmm. Anyway, We are just hoping Breenie can move past such harrassment, she didn't sleep too well, but to her credit got up and went to school! I am proud of her for that.

Everyone else doing well and in good spirits!

And so today and all weekend I got to get in gear and clean this place up, not that it's messy(well a littl bit) but it could use another good cleaning.
ROFLOL, hey Liz, you said needed a vacation??? Hint, Hint. just joshin, doors always open though.

Oh My gosh, Crissy, just had a thought, You need to sick Liz on Mrs Cheerful the TRUE eye rolling, bet sh'eld never roll eyes at you again!!

Betty, Will be exciting to have your new deck in place, love to draw out things and watch them come into reality...
Of course my reality comes oh say 10-15 years later, lolol.
Oh yep, waiting to hear of the new Worshop ideas!! Speaking of which, Um, you planning a Sata's Worshop for on-line too...It's getting close....How nice all your new doors have been installed, move your bedroom around yet?

Susan, Yikes, you have been seriously busy!!! Ahhh, my gosh, talk about a challange. But I am glad you are taking it all in with the best of Challanges.

Mary, how ya doing?
Debie, Hoping your days are good...LOL, so cute, I see our little chipmunk buddy, still trying to get a picture for Kenny and Liz.

Waiving hello to Everyone...
have a wonderful day, I am off to Finish Tote today, er, i hope!

Judy - my lovely boss gave me the aft off (he says I've been working a lot of long hours, so deserve it ^_^ ), so I can prep for my tenting/camping trip away.
One more week of "only" 2 divisions to support, then I add my new job to it....
I so Need this weekend away!!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Just checking in for a few....have to get a lot done here today, check in on Lisa as she is still sick and then I have to go to Seattle to meet the guys at the airport...going to be a long day.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Fall day here, brrrr know the white stuff won't be far behind..

OMG it's lovely to open up DG and see you post Tubby..back to bringing smiles..your goal in life must be making people smile, it's much appreciated...

Judy, hate to be a kid these days, don't remember there being so much drama when I was a teen, but then I married when I was 17 so how much mischief could I get into...

Barb, looking forward to seeing your stitching..tree bark sounds interesting...

Trisha, is Lisa your DIL (?) can't remember you mentioning her much, perhaps it's me not listening..you do know how I rattle on from time to time...sorry! Do hope her health is improving though..

Susan, doesn't it just make your day when your boss appreciates the extra's you put into your job...going camping? isn't it cold where you live or do you plan to travel south

Linda Kay, everything back to normal in your household? feeling better?

Bev, how are you and Scotty doing? are your gardens starting to show signs of fall?

Someone asked what I was up to..you wouldn't believe my schedule for the next month..crazy/crazy..off all over the place and including a trip to Frankenmuth where I was last year and visited with Janice and Stacey...

On my way home from work I stopped at Fabric Land, Barb you'd go crazy there..anyway, going to do a prototype for a Grunge Snowman (he's set into greenery and lights) and bought all the supplies..if time permits I also had plans to do a christmas piece called 'do you see what I see' quite primitive but fun and something kids can also make...few other pieces but had planned to paint all the doors and trim just put in...everything went amuck..

Won't be doing anything tonight because my adrenaline is pumping and I'm overwhelmed by the kindness of many..

I was toying with the idea of a little deck (no stairs) just off the back bedroom now that I just had a patio door put in ..would have to wait till spring because my 2009 budget for renovations has been used up..wouldn't be using it anyway now that fall is here, so spring will be fine...by then I'll have decided if I want to close off that second bedroom, make an arch from my room to it, make a little den for myself..all these plans, always come together but you just have to wait..

At the party on the weekend everyone was teasing me, wondering just how quickly I'd change my tune and build a deck, they all know I've no patience, if I think I want something I want it now..told them I'd be patient..

This afternoon after shopping I came home, saw cut up lumber on my back lawn and thought surely with Bernie putting in doors they'd not have to take all this lumber out, shrugged my shoulders, thought I'd pick it up and put it in the burn pit, lifted my head and voila what did I see..yes, I NOW have a back bedroom deck to sit on..imagine my surprise..

Called Bernie and a few friends..he planned at my party and talking to different family and friends who built a deck this past summer to pick up odds/sods they had and wouldn't you know there was enough to build me an 8' x 7' deck..enough room for lounge chairs and table...

Can't tell you how overwhelmed I am of his kindness and that of all who made a point in coming here today and bringing wood, cement footings etc.

Needles to say from my ramblings you can see that saying I'm excited is just not enough..

The Lord has truly blessed me with family/friends and from the look of the list of people who participated, even strangers to me....

Instead of a coat of many colors, I have a beautiful deck made with love...

I've rambled far too much..wanted to share...talk later, enjoy your evening and God Bless!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Happy to see you post Betty. Scotty and I are fine. Waiting for 30th to get over with. HUGS BEV

Redneck rules!

GENERAL:

1. Never take a beer to a job interview.

2. Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.

3. It's considered tacky to take a cooler to church.

4. If you have to vacuum the bed, it is time to change the sheets.

5. Even if you're certain that you are included in the will, it is still rude to drive the U-Haul to the funeral home.

DINING OUT:

1. When decanting wine, make sure that you tilt the paper cup and pour slowly so as not to
"bruise" the fruit of the vine.

2. If drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your hands.

ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME:

1. A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist.

2. Do not allow the dog to eat at the table, no matter how good his manners are.

PERSONAL HYGIENE:

1. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should be done in private
using one's OWN truck keys.

2. Even if you live alone, deodorant is not a waste of good money.

3. Use of proper toiletries can only delay bathing for a few days.

4. Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a social no-no, as they tend to detract from
a woman's jewelry and alter the taste of finger foods.

DATING (Outside the Family):

1. Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first date.

2. Be assertive. Let her know you're interested: "I've been wanting to go out with you since
I read that stuff on the bathroom wall two years ago."

2. Establish with her parents what time she is expected back. Some will say 10:00 PM. Others might say "Monday." If the latter is the answer, it is the man's responsibility to get her to school on time.

THEATER ETIQUETTE:

1. Crying babies should be taken to the lobby and picked up immediately after the movie has ended.

2. Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have proven they can't hear you.

WEDDINGS:

1. Livestock is usually a poor choice for a wedding gift.

2. Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot.

3. For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cummerbund and a clean bowling shirt can create a tacky appearance.

4. Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks and shoes for this special occasion.

DRIVING ETIQUETTE:

1. Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles, even if the gun is loaded and the deer is in sight.

2. When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires does not always have the right of way.

3. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.

4. When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask her to bring back beer too..

5. Do not lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Tubby those are great! Way cute!

I would chat more but my cat is in my chair and won't move, and I'm almost sitting on her, so I guess I'll be back later.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Tubby had to copy and paste that one in e-mail to all my contacts too cute. Crissy give that poor cat that chair lol.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Tubby, ewww... but glad to see you back posting.

Crissy, I've been there. My female cat has decided her favorite place to lay down is wherever I just got up from. Which is fine if I moved, not cool when I just got up to grab something to drink. Even though she's my skittish cat I've ended up sitting with my knees up over her on the couch a couple times because she just wouldn't move.

Baton Rouge, LA

HUGS Tubby - Gotta copy paste that to my Dad.... :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, rainny but I've mega projects to keep me going..

Purchased an on-line scrungy snowman pattern..think I got taken..directions leave all the important steps out...did e-mail my thoughts on it to the vendor...

Thought it might be one of my workshops BUT until I see the finished project I'll not make a decision but will tell you it's at the 'ugly' stage..let's hope by nightfall it's as cute as can be..doubtful though and that's not me with regards to crafts...

Bernie is coming over this morning to do a few projects so I'll be flittering from crafts to home improvements...

Tubby, loved your posting, going to copy and paste as well..
Enjoy your day everyone...

No Smile Just a sad deal

THE JOB - URINE TEST

(Whoever wrote this one deserves a HUGE pat on the back!)

Like most folks in this country, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck in my case, I am required to pass a random urine test (with which I have no problem). What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

So, here is my Question: Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their a%$ - doing drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money each state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

I guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out'.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

A response to above..

Tubby. I received this e-mail last.

An Obituary printed in the London Times -

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone If you still remember him,

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hello ev1 - camping is still possible here lol
I went to Waterton Springs Campground. Waterton National Park (and Glacier National Park) is split between Alberta, Canada, and Montana. So that means we were about 20 miles from the Montana border.
It was really windy Friday (thought we'd lose our tent!) and the temp dropped about 10F in 2 minutes, the next. We had a bit of frost on the ground, but have mummy style sleeping bags, good to minus16c (3F) and it "only" got to 0c (32F)

Well, off to sleep....... very tired - didn't get to sleep until 6:30 this am, then slept for 4 hours, till 10:30 (mummy bag = can't see sun when it's out lol), then race home to get here in time for bowling league....... very tired..........

~Susan~

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Susan I would love to go camping right now.

Drove to Seattle to pick up Bill and Shawn Friday night....several accidents so traffic was awful the whole way....

Had a retirement party to go to in Seattle on Saturday...more bad traffic...but we found a wonderful little place that makes the best Crepe's I have ever had!!

With so much time in the car my back was killing me this morning so we cut the bike ride short and drove up to Mt. Rainier...Bill rode his single from the park entrance up to Paradise Lodge at the base of the mountain...about 15 miles uphill all the way. It was clear an absolutely beautiful up there today....however, I am not sure another 150 miles in the car did my back much good. but we did find a place with fantastic Chinese food on the way home....great ending to a great day.

This is just inside the park entrance...

A PRE-SCHOOL TEST FOR YOU

Which
way is the bus below traveling?
To
the left or to the right?

Can't
make up your mind?
Look
carefully at the picture again.

Still don't
know?

Pre-schoolers all over the United States
were
shown this picture asked the same
question.
90%
of the pre-schooler's gave this answer.

'The
bus is traveling to the left.'

When asked, 'Why do you
think the bus is traveling to the left?'

They answered:

'Because you can't see the door to get on the bus.'

How
do you feel now ???
I know, me
too.

You
don't stop laughing when you get old,
you get old when you stop
laughing!!'

Thumbnail by tubbytee
Victoria Harbour, ON

You gave me a morning laugh as usual Tubby..should have known that..drove a school bus when they were short drivers..

Dark day, torrential rain..how I wish I could have stayed home and play..although I had so much to do yesterday, did nothing..body told me it had no more energy left within so rested...today I could kick myself..wasted day!

Lots of traged..

My niece Cindy whom I work with MIL passed away at 50..brain anerysm...Melanie my DIL 's neighbor and co-workers hubby passed away at 32 also a brain anerysm and both families had to decided to pull the plug..know how that feels so my thoughts and prayers are with both families...

Judy, did get a chance to work on the Scrungy snowman..verdict is not in yet..going to Michael's at lunch to see if they have any christmas wreaths and decorations out yet, might be a tad to early....

Was asked to make something that would cost no more than $5.00 and that children could make...did a 2' piece of 12" board, with a 'do you see what I see?" theme..christmas trees/snowmen looking up at the stars which by the way glitter with a 20 electric light display...going to have a craft morning at the library for young children..it's an old piece I did with grandchildren years ago..didn't have a piece because they gave it to grandparents and teachers...

If any of you want to do it, gladly provide pattern and instructions...

Trisha, what beautiful countryside..one day I'll travel west..haven't been further than Texas...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Tubby! That's funny. I didn't read the sad ones yet, I'm at work and don't want to start bawling LOL

Betty!!! Great to see you! That's horrible, my thoughts and prayers are with those families also.
Michael's has Christmas wreaths out here, they should have it all there too, one would think...
I'd love to do the Scrunchy Snowman, but I'll let you know when, I'm still working on that Christmas Birdhouse, almost finished, plus I'm fixing a wreath that I bought at Michael's and got it home and didn't like it. Betty you have created a monster with these crafts :) :) :)

It's finally sunny here, but windy 10 - 15mph winds Yuk I hate wind. Yesterday it was 90 degrees with the 10-15mph winds, I stayed inside except for in the evening I tagged all of my plants, they're starting to die out and need to know what I have where so I don't go digging anything up in Feb-March.

Lunch time!! I'll catch ya'll later.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, do you have any pictures of what your working on?

Morning Tubby, how are you feeling today?

Crissy, how is it going at work? Staying busy?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm very busy, the conference is this week... I need to go back and separate my shirts and I have a bunch of stuff to print, but it's easier to wait and print after 4:30 when everyone is gone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Been doing crochet (quilt type afghan) ..was so busy this a.m. and since lunch nothing to do, good passtime and does not take up a lot of my desk...

Will take a photo Trisha but it doesn't do it justice...should have taken it BEFORE I sprayed a finish on it..you don't have to just habit..most likely you can do it for under $5.00

Keep an eye at Home Depot...I bought shelving 12" wide by 6' for $8.99 and had them cut it in 3 sections (no charge) so worked out to $3.00 each

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Wow Betty, that's a deal! I've never done crochet, I can't even get back into my embroidery, still working on those two pillow cases I was going to give to my mom for her birthday, hoping by Christmas but that's looking pretty grim too. LOL

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty so sorry to hear of terrible tragedy that those family's have deal with.T&P..

Filling good if my legs felt as good as the rest I be kicking my heals & headed for the garden..LOL

Witches to the end.

Man, I'll tell ya, women are cold until the end!

The doctor, after an examination, sighed and said, 'I've got some bad news. You have cancer, and you'd best put your affairs in order.'

The woman was shocked, but managed to compose herself and walk into the waiting room where her daughter had been waiting.

'Well, daughter, we women celebrate when things are good, and we celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't well.. I have cancer. So, let's head to the club and have a martini.'

After 3 or 4 martinis, the two were feeling a little less somber. There were some laughs and more martinis. They were eventually approached by some of the woman's old friends, who were curious as to what the two were celebrating.

The woman told her friends they were drinking to her impending end, 'I've been diagnosed with AIDS..' The friends were aghast, gave the woman their condolences and beat a hasty retreat.

After the friends left, the woman's daughter leaned over and whispered, 'Momma, I thought you said you were dying of cancer, and you just told your friends you were dying of AIDS! Why did you do that??'

'Because I don't want any of those witches sleeping with your father after I'm gone.'

And THAT, my friends, is what is called, 'Putting Your Affairs In Order

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Tubby, those are great! Both Sage and I failed the bus test.
