YAKKETY YAK....Gypsies talk back....and forth

The only little one we had was really little....
I guess we didn't get enough rain for it to grow, so we lost that one.

Venice, if I can get a picture of my son the next time he is eating his scrambled eggs with the mushrooms in them, I'll try to post it.

I was told by my boyfriend for 3 years that a friend of his would come over and get them and eat them.

When Jean and Dave both ID'ed it at the same time, that was good enough for me ^_^
Out I ran after it!

LOL JIM

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I saw a garden snake between the doors in the basement when I was a kid and nearly fainted! It really scarred me! They are just too sneaky for me.

Jim, I have pulled up all marigolds, cut off all black sweet tomato vines, and pulled up the 2 tomato plants that produced mushy tomatoes and even my basil because it was getting spots on the leaves. I still have white flies. I guess I will spray with that spray I got at Lowe's. Did you get rid of yours? Also, I have gnats flying around my compost pile. Do you think I should spray for those with Seven or something else? Or would that be bad for the compost?

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

any home remeidies for a cough that wont go away? i tried over the counter stuff prescr stuff ricola drops nothing works

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Kassy that is a big one. The blue weed/flower has seeds if you want them..

Venice did you get all your flowers planted?

Jim my tomato plants have big new leaves no spots on them and are blooming again.

Delhi, LA

Home remedy for a cough: 1 cup whiskey, 1 cup lemon juice, 1 cup honey, and 1 teaspoon alum. Sip as needed.

White flies still in abundance. Can't keep the suckers down. The sevin won't hurt the compost but the gnats aren't hurting anything unless they are worrying you.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Sounds like a home remedy for a coma to me. LOL

Delhi, LA

My hay bale tomatoes are really growing and starting to bloom. Wish the stalks were bigger. They are headed for the roof of the green house. Glad yours are doing good. Fixing to go to ebay and see if I can buy daconil off there.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Rie, what type of cough do you have? Dry cough? Or do you have yuck come up?

Delhi, LA

Trust me, you aren't going to drink it like a cocktail.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Don't they sell it at the store there?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Jim, doesn't nitrogen make bigger stalks? Last year my neighbor kept giving her tomatoes fertilizer high in nitrogen. They never bloomed and they had stalks as big as my thumb!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

JJ, yes I planted your lilies and columbine in good soil and peat. However, I didn't realize how loose the soil was because when I watered them it created a pond at least 1" deep! I dug out a channel so the water could drain. I will dig them up tomorrow morning when it is cool and they aren't so muddy and add more soil. The columbine and tinny lilly are in a different spot. The columbine looks droopy and hope it perks up once it is acclimated to its new soil and such. I guess I won't be able to tell how the lillies are doing until next spring when they bloom. I can't wait!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

JJ, my BF would love them I'm sure..........he does like his weeds......LOL

Here Jim, this one would be just a tad bit safer..........LOL

The columbine should be fine. If not next spring let me know there is no shortage here. Have plenty to share.

I'm still digging and moving plants. Trying to decide where to put my new luna hibiscus plants I bought.
Tag says they get 2-3 ft tall, then I read an article said it got over 6 ft. Don't know what to believe and don't want to have to move it in a couple years

Delhi, LA

If I drive to Monroe, about 30 miles, I can get it. Thought I might buy a gal. off of ebay but it is to high and the shipping charges are way to high. Got see the heart doctor tomorrow for a check up, so will buy some in Monroe.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Does anyone know what these are? We have them growing all over down near the creek and flowering. I may want some seeds from them. We have 2 different colors down there.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Wow, I have 3 colors of asters down there..........I love asters.
I'm going to have to make sure I get seeds from each of them.
I have never seen them down there before, or so many!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Jim you be careful with those snakes.

Kassy those are pretty whatever they are. My DH wants to know if that puffball really big or are your feet little??

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I'm thinking they may be wild asters too.
This is the time that asters usually start to blossom here I believe.

Hi all. Good to see everyone. Jim, glad you are sure footed....grin.

Hi Kassy....heading north time again? Down here we gat a wild mushroom called Chantorelles....they have a spicy, peppery flavor to them and when we are lucky enough to find them , I always make cream of Mushroom soup. DHJim could just about eat his weight in it. Try to make enough for freezer too, but unless I take it some out before hand, it winds up gone.

Rained again today...just enough to keep chasing me inside....enough, enough already....grin

Imazadi, sometimes a warm salt water gargle will help soothe a scratchy throat.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL JJ, no my feet are not little, it is BIG!!!!
And solid through out.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Kassy, those are certainly members of the Aster family especially the purple. The yellow and white are what are fondly called DYC and DWC

I'm going to get seeds from the 2 different purple ones that we have down there. And there are a whole bunch!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I'll tell him. He was looking over my shoulder, when I was looking at the picture.

He's the mushroom person around here. Someone gave me some the other day for him we didn't know what they were.
Found out they were called hen in the woods. I'm still not eating them.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I'm sending this in an e-mail to my BF and telling him "I want one!!"

It's not a chick.

I seen the puffball fry, he didn't. :)

That is so cute and it has feet!!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OK JJ, that mushroom you have to take the peal off, yes, it has a thin peal, and then it is solid and you slice it. I sliced some of it in about half inch slices and then fried it in butter and garlic.........Yummmmmmmmm

To freeze them for my son, I cut them in pieces and fied them and then froze them. Hey, BF ate them with scrambled eggs and he doesn't like mushrooms...........LOL

Tell him it kind of has a meaty texture, and Dave said they are the best mushrooms on the earth.

I'll have to see if I still might have the pictures in my camera and send them to you if I do ^_^

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Yes, he is a little Button Quail. I want it!!
