Oh Marion, Dear Sistah, Happy, happy birthday! That's what I get for not looking at the list ahead of time!!!!

Thought you all might need to know about this disease that seems to be catching a lot of people on this Dave's site.....

CHAD - 'Compulsive Horticultural Acquisition Disorder'. Typical symptoms are 1.) impulse buying of any new plant encountered, 2.) buying it without having even the vaguest idea of where you are going to plant it, 3.) putting new plants in willy-nilly into the most convenient, available spot in the garden, 4.) eventually filling every available empty space, resulting in unmanageable overcrowding, and 5.) losing the lawn to 'bed creep', as beds are expanded in an attempt to relieve the overcrowding, while making space for new acquisitions. Other symptoms may include 'new plant envy', 'gardener's resentment', financial exhaustion, and a number of specific addictive behaviors, including hostaholicism, hemeroholicism, etc. Though not discussed, it appears that eventual loss of bladder and bowel control may presage the onset of insanity. No cure was offered.

I know for sure that I have been diagnosed with this....

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh yum....Judy...wish it was my birthday!

I forgot to tell you all that when I called Kathy this past weekend, she couldn't talk....she didn't have any voice, so I told her to call me when she had her voice back. She called me yesterday and she's been in the hospital again.... :o(

This time she got a virus which turned into bronchitis and then she couldn't breathe as well as not being able to talk. They had to put her on steroids, oxygen and breathing treatments. She has COPD and asthma, so this was really serious for her. :o( The good news is, she's home, can talk, can breathe (with the help of her breathing treatments) and she hasn't had a cigarette since Sunday! So please add her to your prayer lists!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the update on Kathy, Cookie. When you next talk to her, let her know we've been praying for her ceaselessy, and she got to take care of herself.

Didn't check the b'day list... slapping myself now :(
But.........................
Happy Birthday Marion!!! ♫♪♫
Kel and I wish you the best today and everyday!

We can't have a party without JD of course!

Got to run again.. the big box truck broke down this morning, and I'm off begging for mechanics. Asking in person gets better results than the phone.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Joyce, that is good news about Kathy. Glad to hear she is home, and doing better!
My nephews wife has been in the hopstial for 2 weeks now! She went in for her astma, and was admitted, then she got a urinary track infection, which turned into an infection inher blood stream, and settled in her knee. She then had to have fluids draind from her knee, because it was hurting so bad! Them she got a staff infection at the site of the IV!
And I thought the hosptials were supposed to be good for you!

Later, I am off to get more sewing done! I got some stuff cut out, and now to put it together!

Raleigh, NC

trying to catch up on reading.

afternoon sisters! just about to go out to finish potting some hostas and start potting some irises.

hey Jaye - I've heard from several sources that pollen from our local pines is such a large particle that it's not an allergen. They say it's the stuff that pollenates about the same time as the pines that's the problem. anyone else out there have the world turn yellow from the pines each spring? it sure lays down blankets of dust about then. and I'm always congested by the time it starts.

Donna, I've heard over in the iris forum that if you plant irises this late in your area, it's a good idea to put a rock or piece of brick on them to hold them down until they root. am still working on getting you some.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got fed up yesterday, not with ya'll, just, well beans, you all know who and what I'm talking about. Been working on my conference and all. So she's been nice for a month but she's starting to go back into that same ole routine, at least she's not yelling at me yet. It's back to when she sees someone, washing a fork, she makes it a point to show up and tell you that she 'was' going to do the dishes, so you leave them for her and nothing ever gets done. She does that with everyone, I was going to do this or that, she 'was' going to be rich and famous too I suppose. Today she's transferring me calls when I'm not even at my desk and I sit just to the right of her, then when the call transfers to another phone after 3 rings she can't figure out that it's the same phone call she transferred me. I did get my computer set up in the other office yesterday and today, so I'll be able to start working in there a few hours a day, that will help.

Just busy as a little bee today and TGIF!!!

Raleigh, NC

Marion! another birthday! well, darn! hadn't caught up that far. Happy Birthday girl!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh yes Bon, my car's dash is black, but it turns yellow in the spring.

I have that disease too!! I thought I was the only one, I'm so glad ya'll have caught this disease with me, I'm not alone! yay!

Raleigh, NC

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, I'm not sure, take a year to find a place to plant them.. LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning Ladies.. a new day today! Hope you all are in a happy state of mind again.

So sorry I was awol yesterday. Body's feeling the age, and mind was numb.
Got the box truck fixed. That's our money maker. When the lift malfunctions, Kel had to use the smaller truck but kill himself making so many trips for supplies. Yah, looking on the pluses, at least we do have another truck with a lift.

Yes I too have the CHAD disorder.. and CFAD (fabric disorde)! Double jeopardy for the likes of us sewers :(

LK, heard most Texas will be wet today!

Will be gone all day.. so you all play nice, no matter what Crissy says!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning!

Looks like everyone is sleeping in, or already gone somewhere! No rain here yet, but it is welcome!
My flowers have perked up so much, from just the little bit we got the past fews days. So has the grass, it is green again! LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Nothing like liquid gold to perk them up!
What will you be doing today LK?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Just saw on CNN, evacuations are in order in Tx., due to the rising waters. Hope you, BJ and Phyllis, won't be affected.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh boy.. not ready for fall, but here it is already.
Where has summer went to? Didn't get much done for the garden. Wanted Kel to build 2 more 'shade rests', put a new roof over the back porch, replace the roof over the potting shed ... then this setback with his dad, put ALL building projects on hold.
Didn't do any germinating this year. Haven't even scattered BJ's zinnia seeds.... no new rhizomes in the ground.. and then I ordered alliums.
Good thing, I had asked Kel to throw an old rug in a corner of a backyard in the spring, and it has killed the grass by now. So, that will be a new bed for the alliums.
I thank God that at least we can afford to hire the neighbour to do lots of plantings this year. Less pots to be overwintered. More space for the kitties to play in the gh this winter.
And if not for the strawbales, I won't have any veges.

Ladies, hope your summer has been more productive than mine :(

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Don't know about rain in Texas today, but it rained out our baseball game last night:(

Supposed to be upper 80's here today! Sage and I are getting ready to go stake up some plants that this weeks rain knocked over.....don't want Larry to mow over them, or (heaven forbid) have to move them.

Yes, fall is in the air and will be upon us all too soon..........have had huge flocks of Canada Geese going over all week.

Have a great afternoon everyone...will check in later.

No rain here. It is pretty cloudy, but that is it! I haven't heard nayhting on the news either! I will keep an ear out for it though!

Thanks

Hey Trisha, how you doing today.

I am still trying to figure out the material for the tote swap! Making a baby quilt!

LK

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Been raining here and very cool off and on all week. Got my temp. greenhouse set up so I can start getting all the cuttings ready to come in. It seems like November here today. In some ways my summer has been productive, and in other ways not so much.

Anybody know the best way to bring in caladium bulbs?

As usual, much to do, no energy to do it. :0)

Juanita

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry, no caldiums here!

Donna, try this, it only cost $19.00 per year, and you can call anywhere.
http://www.magicjack.com
It works with your computer.
You can probably get it at radio shack, or wal mart.

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Yeah I was already looking into that.. Talked my friend in FL into it and it works great for her.. Wil go after it tomoorrow after Max gets paid..

Well headed to the grocery.. Huggs

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Donna the coleus you get from seed are not that exciting. It really isn't worth the effort especially to try them over the winter. They would take months to grow and the colors would be less than spectacular. Please feel better soon.

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the input Juanita.. I was just trying to figure out what to grow over the winter downstairs that might be fun. Any suggestions?

Got the Majic Jack and am working on installing it..

Raleigh, NC

ohhhhhhhhhhh sisters. please put my back, my feet, and my shoulders in your prayers.

that darn girl of mine likes BOOKS a bit too much. we began moving her and her fiance to new apt. this a.m., and I've carried a million @#$@#$T%^%$@#$$#%#%#I$%$@# heavy little cartons of books........

sorry. when I hurt all over my mouth just isn't Christian any more.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh bonjon - I really "feel" for you.
I lost track of personal moves @ 43................ no, I'm not an army brat, or army wife. My ex just liked to move (maybe because he's a trucker.......and on the move all the time)

I'll keep you in my prayers and thoughts.
btw - I was "mouthing off" a few minutes ago in the Signature Block thread, because of my new sewing machine.............

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I know mean Bon, both of my kids are History Majors and avid reader/collectors....the last few moves their stuff, I swear, was over half books!! Of course a lot of them they took from me, and I am about to give them more.....I have been in libraries that hve less books than our family.

Raleigh, NC

she had quite a crew of friends recruited. they knew their move date 90 days in advance, and we were all told "reserve this date." we had a "love train" (their word for it) - I'd call it a bucket brigade - of boxes flowing from the upstairs down all the way to the truck. OK, but that means lifting and twisting to pass it along. of course, Mom was at the beginning, handing them DOWN a few stairs, too.

Think she had close to 18 people at 8:30am for Bruggers Bagels first, a few pealing off as the day wore on going off to jobs. By 2 pm lunch at Zackbys, there were still 10 of us.

the fellas did all the heaviest lifting of heavy old furniture she'd collected from craigslist and moving sales all summer. Poor Randall! he'd already taken a hydrocodone before we left there!

He said to me "at the beginning of the day, I wasn't going to let any of those young whippersnappers show me up, I was going to show them a thing or two. By 11 am I was slowing down, and by noon, my attitude was 'sure, show me what you can do, I'll sit here and watch.'" Randall hoards the hydroc and won't hardly take it unless he's having a really bad kidney stone, so you KNOW he's hurting bad. I suggested stopping at Aldi's on the way home, and he said "NO. My feet hurt, no more walking."

now she lives only 8 mins. from us! instead of a real dump, they have a beautiful new place, nearly twice the size and a wonderful kitchen, for only $25 more per month. she really shopped hard for their place. we must have looked at 50 to 75 apts.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Just got back!
LK, you're not the only one that keeps changing her mind on the fabric!
Think I've done it more than a dozen. Time to get serious, the deadline is here soon.

Bonnie, your daughter is blessed, having that much help. Could have been an all weekend affair ;( "Bucket brigade".. lol... too funny!
So, you and Randall take it easy tomorrow.
