Best/Worse/What did I learn today..visit with friends #121
Haven't reached that part yet Trisha but I'm sure I will. My stubborn nature kept me smoking for so long and now it's that same stubborn nature that means I won't go back to it......
I know how it goes....I started at 15 it took me 46 years to quit.........I was up to over two packs a day............

First Home Game tonight of the Season. The Band is Almost 150% larger than last year...which is what we have worked SO hard for... However with growing pains....LOTS of Freshmen...the (Perfectionist) Band Director has little patience for LOTS more students with LIttle knowledge....we'll have to HELP him as much as possible....
PLus new folks taking over my position..and she hasn't really stepped up yet..although I know she is capable of it...just busy.......so I've offered to help and she hasn't taken me up on it....
(((HUGS))) To all,,,,
Mary
PS: Today was my "First" TV commercial "Shoot". I sold my chiropractor our "Ask The Expert" series which requires a :30 second TV Commercial. I showed up with a cameraman and his assistant. We shot a LOT of film... MANY MANY Testimonials...which the DR. set up.... which is Awesome....then shot a video of Dr. Cathy with some X-rays......the Masseuse with a patient....a patient with a Decompression machine....then Dr. Cathy with a patient. It was a long process and I've learned a LOT but I have LOT more to learn. From here we go to "EDIT"....where we 'Figure out " what makes it in the :30 second commercial. Learning! This is VERY different from Radio Sales where I spent the last 21 years.... :)
morning all, hope you have a good weekend.
judy, wow lots of food! oh im just in a tizzy not in a social mood.
you know granny is 93 pretty sharp, and lives alone we give her independance so she can live out her life and not feel trapped.
well some misserable form of life!!!
had the nerve to report her to social services im at a complete loss of words
the whole family is discusted! that someone would do such a thing, we asked a attourney my mom knows who would do such a thing to someone, he said most of the time it could be a doctor, or even a bank.
even someone that dosnt know her could just make a call and they will investigate
so needless to say a social worker came to her house yesterday questioned her if she needed help,or someone to clean ect.
omg she has a big family, she said no to them, but i understand that if they feel she isnt able to take care of herself they will put her in a home ect and appoint a conservator omg we are just sick!
and the attourney said that they would never reveal the person of who said anything im so irritated if i find out who did this to my granny, it will be complete public humiliation on their part! wow that sounded pretty threatning sorry i had to vent.
we just dont know what to do.
Early morning here...still in my jammies but getting ready to get dressed and at it for a weekend of sunshine!
Have been busy..will be having a duel birthday party next weekend for mom and Bernie...lot's of planning..no cooking except for the deep fried turkey..you know me, meat / veggie platters will be on the menu..
Just read a few post..you all are busy/busy bees with halloween, sewing and family...
Mary what is a commercial shoot? is it for you company?
Judy, hope you are feeling better..how is football going..
Bev, congratulations on your 14 smoke free days, tough I'm sure but you'll feel much better...so glad for the good results...
That black bug would have me frightened half to death...
Tubby, how is your gardening going? OMG sure wish I was there to go with the girls to the flea/junk market...
Liz, your quilt will look fabulous..as it's out just for halloween why don't you try tying it rather than quilting it..with a few layers of batting it would be adorable..
Trisha, have your gardens picked up since the heat wave you've had? how is Sage enjoying school? I found a bike in the back bush behind me, know it's the kids next door that stole it, I've contacted police..Kyle said it was worth about $600..so if not claimed in 60 days I get it back...
Debbie, swelling under control now? strep, isn't that contagious?
Barb and Susan, you are both accomplishing so much in the sewing dept. - hopefully this week I'll get my next 2 quilt blocks done and shipped...
Did a fun piece for my 'halloween' swap pal and would imagine she'll receive in mid week..hope she enjoys...
My boys have already started in hockey..all starting to get into the school routine..Kyle looks pretty spiffy in his high school uniform..
Mike had his operation yesterday, cancerous tumor taken out and skin grafting team repaired damage...over 12 hrs. in operating room..waiting for a call from Ann this a.m. to tell me all the particulars...thankful for answered prayers!
Well, I've chatted far too long..so many things planned for this weekend that if I don't get a move on I'll not get through it...
aalthough I have to wait around the house until TimBrr delivers patio door for back bedroom and new glass/metal door for back entrance..crossing fingers that they will be installed before next weekend...
Enjoy yours and hope it will be filled with 'sunshine'
Debbie & anyone....Henery one of our 3 outdoor cats has mange..We think..Hair is matted on large area of back..He has had little spots before..We thought they where battle oweeees.
.We figure to bath & use peroxide.just a light amount..Or Neosporin again a light amount rubed in good..Vet is off visting DD
No sleep again..Got to love these Steriods I went 5 days and nights the first I had this..BUT I didn't have my wonderful, beautul, shiny puter then...May have to try a few wiskey drinks to get a little relaxed I haven't had more 2 mixed drinks for so long it proably wouldn't take very many..LOL Can you say hangover..LOL
Thank You
Tubby
Tubby there are two different kinds of mange. Don't know if the matted hair is a sign of that...or something else going on. Yep, clean it up real well...and put on the neosporin until you can get him to the vet. Now be careful, as one type of mange I think can be transmitted to adults....will check on that and let ya know shortly.
Betty, I am on two new meds again for the swelling. This seems to be working better, but I can't leave the house when I take it because when it kicks in....it really kicks and for about 4 to 6 hours. I go back to the doctors next Monday (21st).
Yes strep is contagious. That is why doctor made me bring her home Wed. after appointment. She didn't have classes Friday...so she will go back tomorrow.
Paul and I did end up having breakfast with Frank and his wonderful wife. Great time and such a wonderful couple. We couldn't stay long as we had to run kids in the afternoon, back to college....and shopping for school supplies as first day of school was next day and he had just gotten his list.
We had a scare with the cats getting a bat. Had to take them all for rabies boosters/vaccines on Tuesday. That was fun...NOT! Just a precaution but still scary.
Tubby, our garden was a total bust this year. We maybe got 10 tomatos, and maybe 8 peppers...some are still coming on. Paul says they got "blite?"
Judy & Liz, wow you two are so busy! Goodness!
Waving to Mary....great news on the commercial.
Needing coffee...busy day ahead, soccer game and who knows what else.
Debbie
Tubby, you have D-mail
Just found y'all again! Hi to all!
G'morning, all - ((((((((((((((Hugs to ALL))))))))))))))))
Oh Liz - no wonder you're in a tizzy!! I know I would be too....... If your granny is looking after herself, and has a big family to help, then she's ok. I find that people look at the age, rather than the person, and make their judgements that way.......
Paying respect to someone's abilities, rather than pigeon-holing them by age is Why can't some people think of these elderly ladies as LADIES, Not BABIES!Much Better.
Here, in Calgary, the city tries to keep people in their home as much as possible, and come by to mow the lawn and prune the trees. It's better for them financially, of course, but it's also nicer to keep people where they're comfortable and familiar.
My mom is 90, and people are surprised she still flies to visit people. For heaven's sake - why not? If she can go in a car to visit in same city, what's the diff in taking a car to the airport and someone to watch while she's on the plane. She's in a wheelchair otherwise, for long distance walking, of course.
Ok, vent over - just understand that I sympathise, Liz......
Here's something to take to heart:
The Wooden Bowl
I guarantee you will remember the tale of the Wooden Bowl tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now.
A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered.
The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and
Failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor.
When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.
The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.
'We must do something about father,' said the son.
'I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.'
So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl.
When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food.
The four-year-old watched it all in silence.
One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor.
He asked the child sweetly, 'What are you making?' Just as sweetly, the boy responded, 'Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up.' The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.
The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.
That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table.
For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.
~Susan~
Wow everyone is busy busy this weekend, school started and soccer/hockey family birthdays my goodness!
Judy they're pink brugs. One may be a pink velvet and the other may be a pink something elkse
I'm going to go to antique stores with Diana so I'll check up on ya'll later
Tubby hope the girls had a blast and you got your mini loader. You better get to feeling better young man so you can keep up with those girls!
Betty it's so good to see you post, I've been wondering about hockey and family and all.
Pretty garden!
Afternoon everyone! Sounds like you are all very busy!
Audrey, glad to see you back here. What have you been up too? How is that knee doing?
Tubby, all those huge tomatoes sound really good! How about a tomato sandwich please?
mmmmm tomato sandwich - toasted!
We had 2 toasted tomato sandwiches each, my DH & I, yesterday.
From our patio tomatoes ^_^ Mind you, as it's a small pot (sorta) they were the last 2 tomatoes we have ripe. I'm hoping the others ripen (all 2 of 'em).
I'm glad we have a semi-sheltered deck so we can have them ripen longer.
I'd better get to watering my garden, and back to sewing my Signature blocks!!
Cya l8tr, and hagd!!
~Susan~
Sounds like a busy weekend for everyone....
Betty good to see you here....please give Mike and Ann our best and tell them they are in our prayers...!
Sage is loving school!!! She has made new friends (after having no playmates all summer) and she says the new school doesn't have so many rules...they let you push each other on the tire swing... You couldn't do that at the old school !
Liz I know how you feel......my dear neighbor lived here on his own and was doing fine at 93, took care of himself and rode his bicycle at least 5 miles every day no matter what the weather, until the local recycling truck backed over him. That was a very sad day for this neighborhood and we miss him. In his 80's he taught himself advanced calculus, just for something to do. He had been an engineer....he was in charge of doing the footing for half of the buildings in Boston, and the base for the Arch in St. Louis among other things.
tomato Sandwiches....Yes......holding out my plate....Please.......
Want to get a pattern transferred to paper before I leave for Church....maybe I will get to work on it some tonight.....spent all morning on the patio with mom and Sage......got a few weeds pulled and the wild rose cut back, but didn't get much else done....had to take mom for a haircut....she is awfully shaky on this medication so doesn't want to drive....which is a good thing...unlike a friend of hers who drives no matter what!!
We did get to bird watch....had about 16 of the Goldfinches, three or four Junco's, a couple of mountain chickadee's, a Northern Flicker....the regular visit from the Stellar's Jay and the scrub Jay....also had a couple of flocks of the Canada Geese fly over.
A Wave to all I had better move if I am going to get anything done before I have to leave.. Later!
Good evening everyone! Been a great day, want to have another! Me and Diana went to antique malls and had a blast!
Got home, had to go back to town to grocery shop, not so fun, then she came back over for a bit then it started raining so her DH drove to get her :)
I got all kinds of goodies, I'll take pictures after I fold clothes and go get something to eat (yes I went to the store and don't want anything in this house, go figure!)
LK, my knee is great! Better than the other one! How's yours?
Now I'm having swelling in my feet up to my knees. Diuretics don't work, even when I double them. Gonna get my kidneys checked out!
seedtosser, I am beginning to quilt again. I only took one class for a few weeks but I enjoyed it. However, I wasn't good at being still to quilt much. Now I'm older, enjoy more quiet time and started back. I want to make these totes and string purses to sell at the museum shop. But I live in a small town and the only place to buy fabric was Wal-mart. They drove the fabric shop in town out of businesss when they opened. Lo and behold! our Wal-mart is remodeling and eliminated their fabric. I live about 20 miles from town, and now, in order to buy fabric, I will have to drive another 20 miles to the next town.
I have bid on and bought a few pieces on eBay. But the quality varies at times, and I got a few pieces that were really polished cotton. I also think I have a few that are part poly, but I don't let that bother me as long as it is not more than 25% poly. You have to be careful that you do not get ripped off because the shipping charge is ridiculous.
It's fun starting over, but I don't have much of a fabric stash yet. I am using a few panels with scenes for the middle of the front and back of the tote and right now working on some beautiful loons.
Hello and Happy Sunday!
Been a rather busy bee this morning.
Woodspirit, What a major bummer about the fabric store! Well maybe it will be nice to take a run to it. LOL, going for fabric is about the only thing I shope for anymore. Since no working I have been homebound unless I am running the kids somewhere, lol which is all the time.
You know I hate ordering anything on line, I'm sort of a finicky buyer, got to touch and inspect everything first. Gosh, I am a nutcase at shopping, to choose what I want can be an all day affair...Your tote pieces sound great!!
Yesterday, I stopped thinking and got myself busy, created and cut my paper pattern...still changing things as I went, but I think, I am satisfied, and hope my buddy will love it... today, washing the material, as I type.
This whole weekend was simply splendid! weatherwise. I do hope you are all enjoying outdoor activity or gardening.
Mary, ohwah! The commercial selling sounds like a blast. What a neat job. So glad you are learning and having fun with it.
Foot ball is going well. Good grief, so far every game has been away. The boys are playing well, but have not won a game yet. They should have won Saturday's game but the ref guy was blind and called their TD out of bounds!! Grrrr, everyone was just fuming mad.
...How are thing with Marching Band, they getting the routine down, What is their theme? Been watching ours practice, wow looks pretty hard to me...OH my gosh, When julia was in We, the parents had to participate, lol I could barely walk forward let alone make all the crazy steps with them, Those Band Kids are remarkable!!
Forgot who asked but there are 60 boys on the freshman team...And I was truley amazed at how much they can eat in a half hour!
equally amazed at their mannerism, very nice young men, hahaha, ast least while coach was there.
Betty, Betty, so nice to see you, Oh now I sure hope mom and Bernie's birthday is a wonderful celebration! What a pretty day too...
Happy Birthday to them...Oh I sure hope the news on Mike is good.
Crissy, So glad you got some cool finds at the antique store!! How is your birdhouse coming along?
Susan, That was a heartwrenching story! I think it great that it takes a childs honosty to open the eyes of the ignorant!!
Well hello Audrey, so glad your knee is better! So sorry to hear abouthe swelling, hope that goes away.
Bev, That little section is so pretty, makes me want to sit there and just look at your beauty.
Tubby, my goodness, 5 days with no sleep! Holy smolies, can't even imagine what that is like, but i am so glad you have your computer to occupy time...Love your description!
Debbie, Oh man, poor baby, strep sure is no fun, I hope he gets better...
Well today is another pretty day. I am feeling better, still coughing and stuff, but I have better energy today.
I am hoping the kids want to stay home today...really not in the mood to drive, but lolol Sabrina wants to drive everywhere, and my nerves need a day of rest...Steve is up at the house working on the tile in upstairs bathroom...He is a bit aggrevated with his buddies, were to work on painting and other things, but they decided to "vacation" instead, yikes told Dh they better not leave me a big old mess. So now they will not be home until tomorrow.
So tonight, I am thinking to have a fire to keep me company and get lost in thoughts, oh yeah, just talked myself into it!
Well, got to go switch out the laundry and jump on the craft table...woohoo working outside, just to nice to work inside.
Enjoy the day, Hope I didn't miss anyone...Hey Barb, waving hello to you and anyone else, I may have missed.
tah,tah for now.
Hello all. Been working like a horse to get some cleaning done. Rick is helping thank goodness for him. I want this over with. Sure hope the doc lets me go out and pull weeds. I found a wonderful home for Baby. I couldn't stand the screaming any more. A fellow that we know just moved into town and he used to raise Cockatiels so he is very good to HER!! he says. I can go see Baby anytime. !7 days down. It must have been divine intervention because I have had hardly any urges for them nasty things. LOVE you all. Rick will let you know how I do . HUGS BEV
Bev, that is great news. & days and counting! Keep up the great work!
Audrey, sorry to hear about your legs swelling! Please have your kidenys checked out.
My Sister went in for lab work, before her ankle surgery last week, and they found that she is in stage three kidney failure. So they have her on more meds, and watching her diet real close. No salty foods at all for he blood pressure.
Beautiful weather here today, It was 69 degrees when we woke up, nice breeze going through the house, with all the windows and doors open! It feels good!
I am working on the tote pattern, and a baby quilt for my Physical Therapist., and some quilt squares. So back to the drawing board I guess.
Hope you al have a great day!
LK
Hello all - just a quick "pop-in", as I'm between church, choir practice, shopping, sewing quilt blocks, and start of bowling league tonight LOL
Hope ev1's day is wonderful, and that you take the time to enjoy those around you, and YOURSELF, too! gotta enjoy yourself ^_^

(sorry, just HAD to say it LOL)
Cya l8tr!!
~Susan~
Boy Audrey, sorry you're having such a time with that knee and swelling.
Debbie strep is horrible, I hope he's feeling better by now.
BBB house is coming along fine but slow (I forgot about the hours of drying time.)
Betty hope mom and brother had wonderful birthdays.
It's been raining off and on all day, I love it when it rains for a bit, then stops, then rains for a bit, you know and how it gets kinda foggy. Wouldn't want this weather all the time but I love it when it happens.
I wish I could bowl but my tendonitis in my wrists just won't let me. I love bowling.
Bev I'm so glad you found a home for Baby. Sometimes things just don't work out. I had two other cats that I just didn't fit with like I do Tiga.
Sounds like everyone's weekend continues to be busy and happy!
Tubby and all, couldn't resist...
'Dear Lord:
A man was sick and tired of going to work every day
while his wife stayed home.
He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed:
'Dear Lord:
I go to work every day and put in 8 hours while my wife
merely stays at home.
I want her to know what I go through.
So, please allow her body to switch with mine for a day.
God, in his infinite wisdom,
granted the man's wish.
The next morning, sure enough, the man awoke as a woman...
He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate,
Awakened the kids,
Set out their school clothes,
Fed them breakfast,
Packed their lunches,
Drove them to school,
Came home and picked up the dry cleaning,
Took it to the cleaners
And stopped at the bank to make a deposit,
Went grocery shopping,
Then drove home to put away the groceries,
Paid the bills and balanced the check book.
He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog..
Then, it was already 1 P.M.
And he hurried to make the beds,
Do the laundry, vacuum,
Dust, And sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
Ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument
with them on the way home.
Set out milk and cookies and got the kids organized to do their homework.
Then, set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing.
At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washing vegetables for salad,
breaded the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper.
After supper, He cleaned the kitchen,
Ran the dishwasher,
Folded laundry,
Bathed the kids, and put them to bed.
At 9 P.M. He was exhausted and, though his daily chores
weren't finished, he went to bed where he was expected to
make love, which he managed to get through without complaint.
The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said: -
Lord, I don't know what I was thinking.
I was so wrong to envy my wife's being able to stay home all day.
Please, Oh! Please, let us trade back.. Amen!'
The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied:
'My son, I feel you have learned your lesson and
I will be happy to change things back to the way they were.
You'll just have to wait nine months, though.
You got pregnant last night.'
Good morning everyone!
What a great day already. Had to print out the Two Sister's story, so Will enjoy that with a cup of coffee.
Yikes, i am two posts behind.
So yesterday was fantastic...Ended up Taking Sabrina for some more practice driving. She did pretty well and we actually had lots of fun. Went to the park, to practice parking and backing up, lolol needs lots more of that.
Also, we went and took care of a few errands...
Then had a great fire and chatted with the Gypsie thread. Nice bunch over there...Fairly new to General discussion.
So today playing catch up with the Sistah's over in the Sweet interuptions.
Linda Kay, so sorry to hear about your sister, will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
Wow, you are one busy bee with all the sewing projects...Whats your secret on keeping everything separate?
Decided today I will practice my tote, if it comes out, Ill be set to go!
Liz, how are you doing? A little calmer?
See you in a bit.
LOL, Betty, so funny!
roflmfbo, Betty LOL
Quick post - gotta get back to work, but wanted to let you know you're in my T&P, and I wish you a great day! ^_^
~Susan~
Dave got home from work early and I forgot to post.
Best of yesterday: Relaxing and enjoying the things I bought, plus Dave got the Halloween decorations down from the attic so I got to play in that too.
Worst of yesterday: Still not able to go in the yard without being circled by hornets.
Learn: I have too much crap lol
LK your sister is in my prayers also. I somehow missed that yesterday.
LOL Betty, that's hilarious!
Crissy, thank you for your kind thoughts! My knee is fine, it's my feet that are swelling, BAD! All the way to both knees and beyond! Not so bad this morning, though, and got rid of lots of fluid last night---all night! I think it's my kidneys, too, otherwise the diuretics would work every time!
Betty love it..And I'm no help....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Hey Judy, no secret to organization. I just try to do them in the order they are due to mail out! I don't like missing deadlines!
