Resin, my experience has been that except when the chick (Aussie) was really young, the guano is projected well clear of the nest and that people passing underneath in boats or kayaks are in far greater danger of copping a serve.
DAILY PICS VOL. 241
Wonderful pics Burd and Margaret!
Those Lorikeets sure are beautiful! Funny pics!
Great shots of the hawk, Nanny! We moved down to Santa Fe yesterday. Staying in a releative's vacation home. It's a beautiful pueblo-style home on a golf course and quite a few birds. Upon arrival I noticed a nice pile of droppings on the front porch and discovered a Barn Swallow nest under the eave. They are ready to fledge. The mother sat on a nearby adobe wall calling them. Only one of the four was brave enough to make the leap. The others get up on the edge of the nest, but don't quite have the courage. The one that fledged returned to the nest for the night.
Also saw some Pinon Jays and Rock Wrens while sitting on the veranda watching the sun go down. Plan to visit the square today and Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary tomorrow.
Pic of the swallow nest.
Never heard of a Pinon Jay...very pretty!
Never heard of a Pinon Jay
Spellcheck for web search: Pinyon Jay (or, if you want to use Spanish lettering: Piñon Jay). Found in the western USA, strongly associated with pinyon (piñon) pines.
Resin
Red, Thanks for posting the shot of the Pinyon Jay! I think he may be our first here. Don't forget to add to Bird Files.
Love your collage GP!
Well I finally saw a very sweet juvenile Cardinal. It was her sound that drew me out there, like nothing I've heard before. She was with her Mommy and of course she was adorable! :-)
Everyone had such beautiful photos of the birds.
Gardenpom, loved that collage! Nice assortment of birds.
Red, great find on the Pinon Jay-they're pretty. Enjoy your trip, sounds perfect!
Margaret, wonderful photos. Glad Resin explained the other birds nesting lower in the Osprey nest. We're seeing the woodpeckers doing the same thing here.
Burd, love that Goldfinch all fluffed up.
Nanny, beautiful hawk. I'd have taken as many or more photos of that gorgeous hawk. Nice job.
One of my pretty Crows
O those cute quail!!
I love the California Quail!
Nice one Lily!!
Burn, Nice pics, love the Hairy and Purple Finch!
Mrs Ed, Lovely pic of the Cedar Waxwings!
Jay, Beautiful Bald Eagle!
Fantastic pics everyone! I especially loved the hawk and Lorikeets! :)
Thanks for the beautiful start Linth...the Tanagers are just gorgeous!
I am trying to get caught up after having company last week...the shots on this thread are a wonderful way to start the day!
Thanks Pelle, Burn you've beat me to it! I was going to show off my Goldfinch at the thistle seeds feeder for the first time. But your pix is much sharper! Pueyyyy! I'm going to post the pix anyway, for the female Cardinal is so happy to see the pretty little yellow bird is leaving its mixed seeds feeder alone. lol.
Red, the Pinon Blue Jay is fabulous! I'm looking forward to more pictures from your trip. Thanks for sharing.
Marna, your Sedge Wren is so cute, is it about the same size as the Carolina Wren? Oooh ahhh! The Cedar Waxwing! Such striking birds! I hope they will return here to our locale sooner than just early Spring.
Laynie, the GB Heron(s) are one of the patient fisher I've witnessed. I've watched one standing still for hours awaiting for the right moment to fish. Nice pix!
24G, Congrats on the sighting of the Bald Eagle, what a thrill!
Hey, Red! Have fun at the Randall Davey Audubon Center. I go there fairly often. You could also check out the Nature Conservancy trail right across from it. It looks like a lovely morning for it!
I am not sure that I could even hold the camera if I was close enough to get a picture of the bald eagle. The tanangers are sooooo pretty , we don't see them on the gulf coast.
You know, I don't really know how big a carolina wren is, having never seen one. However, seemed a bit bigger than the house wren, smaller than the cactus wren. I'll have to look at sibleys later to see the size.
I just saw something and it was a real treat! See my Goldfinch above? There are juvenile house/purple finches that come on a regular basic to beg for feeding. One perched above the feeder and flutter its wings, the Gold Finch responded. I fumbled for the camera, but missed the shot!
Enjoyed the Davey Audubon Center. I'm posting a list from eBird of the birds we saw.

Beautiful shot of the Heron Laynie!!
Congrats Mrs Ed! Always exciting to get a new bird!
Nice shot Lily!
Red, Love the Pinyon Jay!
Some nice sighting in Cape May today. A Loggerhead Shrike, Franklins Gull, Sora, Baird's Sandpiper and a few White-rumped Sandpiper. I'll be down there for a walk Thursday morning, hopefully I'll see some new things.
Nice ones guys!! I hope to see some Cedar Waxwings soon. The chokberries are getting ripe!
This was IDed over on the ID forum
Can you give me a link to that ID forum Mrs_Ed? I've never seen it and I'm sure I can put it to good use! ;)
Hi Jay, I think Mrs Ed is probably off to bed by now. Here is the link for the Bird Identification forum.
