good, glad to get a second opinion!
Tropical Plants: Tropical Garden # 50
Bunkhouse, thanks. I usually will leave the bananas on the tree until they start to show yellow.
I have not done any research on cutting off the male flowers, but I would be afraid to get fungus into the fruit stalk. I seldom get fruit, and I do like the purple infloresence on them.
That was a Ice Cream Banana. What varieties are you growing?
Philo. Xanadu gold
RJ, we use those perilla in "pho", a vietnamese hot noodle.
interesting!
love surprise plants!
I want a Xanadu gold!!!!!
I was trying to ignore that one Nery. I will not ask Kell where she got it - I wil not ask Kell where she got it - I will NOT ask Kell where she got it!!!!!
she said elsewhere she got it for a song. don't you just hate that? lol
YES! I want to move to CA just to buy plants.
Placenciarita - Mine are called 'Ice Cream Maxi'. I bought three several years ago, and now I have probably three dozen, and I have given some to my neighbor. We love the bananas!
I hope my Ice Cream and/or my Manzano fruit early enough so I can enjoy fruit this year.
Bunkhouse, that is a bunch of banana trees. Are the Maxi sweeter or more cold hardy than the regular Ice Cream? I could not find anything on them and will have to look again.
My new plant to try was a Musa Thompsonii. After 3 years, I am very disapointed in them. They need filtered sun and a lot of water.
I'm sorry to say this everyone, but I won't be on any more. I have to take the time to mourn my mother's passing today. It's not going to be easy. I wish you all well in life and in your gardens.
Hugs to all,
Kurt
Kurt, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. You're in our thoughts.
Kurt, I am sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear about your mother Kurt.
Kurt, I am so sorry for your loss. I know that there are no words that can take away the pain.
I will mss you.
Thank you everyone. Rita I got the package today. I hope to return in the near future when everything is settled down. For now I just have to adjust to life alone. Hugs to you all and god bless.
Kurt
Kurt, I am so sorry for your loss, I will be thinking of you and your family..
Rj.. I grow that perilla, my brother who used to be married to a korean girl used it in his restaruants in miami in some dishes, I have tons of it ( seeds too) as well as all the basils..I hav'nt died or gotten sick from eating it yet..
Candela, what a wonderful garden you have and some nice neighbors too.. My criniums are not blooming yet, but they bloomed for Tropicman last fall so there is hope yet.
I have been busy working a different schedule and not happy about it, but I am drowning my sorrow in gathering seeds now. I will be sending off a pink box for Patty that likes pink, and some of you will get some of the other seeds I have ( not so pink) lol
The other Patty will be getting some plants that I have to send away since there is no room at the Inn in the basement nursery. I am going to Buffalo, Ny. Sat am and I have a ten yr old girl watering my yard while I am away and if everything is alive and thriving she will get a 50 dollar bill. Her parents have been over watching her "train" with me.
This is one of my favorite colours with a heady scent of mirabilis ( 4 o clock) that I collect..
Good thing I don't have that Perilla..LOL
James...... how beautiful! I want a first belle.. some day..
here is one of my two var. Rose of Sharon. I know Rita has it, I can't think of name right now. Foliage is very striking but flowers do not open fully, at least not for me. I've had this plant for several years. A very slow grower but also not very demanding.
Other var. RoS is "Sugar Tips" but it's a little, bitty plant. Nothing to brag about yet.
RJ, did you get rain yet? I remember when I lived in Houston... after a drought we'd get a heavy rain and the roads would flood and there would always be people that would try to drive through the deep water and get stalled, especially on some of the streets that ran under I-10.
Marianne
Marianne, the idiots are still out there after a heavy rain. Seems like the smaller their car, the more they want to drive thru flooded streets, lol.
But I will tell you than one time, eons ago, I was working downtown and was on my way home in SW Houston via Allen Parkway. It wasn't until I was about 2 feet from an underpass that I realized there was no way to drive thru. Talking about a mess, I had to drive backwards and find an alternate route. Thank goodness there was no traffic. I was the only numbskull in the danger area.
