Candela, OMG, a white chenille plant? how cool is that?

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

vossner it is a cutting from a neighbor's plant that was hanging on my side so i did them a favor of pruning it for them. theirs is a little pinker so as it ages i am sure it will get pink. i have babied this for a few months.

Thanks to everyone for sharing that special place or plant, that caught their eye, in their garden.
I have a few of the same old reliable plants blooming.
This is Bauhinia Tomentosa (yellow bell orchid tree) that is much prettier than the picture.

Hi guys...we did get a bit of rain the other morning before I left for Seattle.
I'm about to hop a 2 hour ferry ride to Victoria BC for the rest of the week!
In the meantime here are a couple photos of my Mom's garden in Seattle.
Tangletown

What a lovely garden! When you first wrote "Tangletown", I thought you were talking about an overgrown garden. Good to read the explanation.
Have a great time in Victoria, it's so beautiful! If you like Sequoias they have some huge ones, there is even a weeping one going over someone's driveway, so cool!

My attempt at semi-tropical cottage garden. Photo includes hardy hibiscus, datural metel, cat palm, canna, and jasmine. Red leaved plant is sambuca niger "Black lace."

Looking at same planting from the north. You can also see a variety of calladium. The spikes are old irises, as well as yuccas.

The other half of the front bed, visible include a miscanthus, my bamboo, nasturtiums, calladiums, another sambuca. Not appearing in these images are Carolina jessamine "Margarita", and two crape myrtles, all three of which had a bad winter last year. They're coming back, slowly.

Waaaay towards the back of the property. To the left you can see the mimosa far behind the bed frame, the calladium bed. I wish it hadn't been so dry this year, but all in all everything turned out OK. My nasturtiums, planted in late May, are just now blooming.

I think I did OK getting a jungle-like effect. Rjuddharrison, you've got what I am aspiring towards. :)

Thanks everyone for letting me share!

Have a wonderful visit with you Mom I'm also looking forward to enjoying more of your pictures.

Joegee, thanks for the lovely tour of your garden. I enjoyed all of your pictures, especially the big Musa Basjoo going crazy. I was very impressed that you know the names of all your plants.

variegated Crinum lily, no blooms as yet. Maybe next year

I think that this might be Oxblood lily, I couldn't be a rain lily because we had no rain for quite sometime now.

This is not the first bloom on the Princess flower, but the first one that was not eaten by the grasshoppers.

Beautiful as usual Rita and I agree with you as well on where R.J. got his talent! Looking forward to viewing more R.J.

I wonder why my crinium is not blooming. One plant is the second year in the ground.

Dandridge, TN(Zone 6a)

That oxblood is really pretty. Is Crinum hardy by you, Lili? Oh, I guess it is if you are zone 8. You're not that far away from me, and we're only 6! boo hoo.

Joegee is the sambuca winter hardy? I have two small plants and need to know... Hello from Buffalo, Ny by the way...
My MILs' plants are awsome here

Placentiarita, I always love the photos you post. This is one of my favorite threads on DG. You have luscious flowers. I admit to zone envy. :)

Thank you Rachel. I love my home. Next year it's getting a paint job to go with it's peculiar owner. I may go with island colors, not sure, but it's definitely going Bohemian, inside and out.

Joeswife, that sambuca is hardy to zone 4a. It's marketed up north here as a replacement for Japanese maples. It has similar structure and color (although its pink blooms smell like lemon). It grows FAST.

Thank you folks!

RachelLF, Here is Alocasia back to you. This is A. Crassifolia, this little plant is 4 years old. I love the shape and the texture of the leaves, but can't get it to grow any bigger.

LiliMerci, I am sorry that your Crinium is not blooming yet. It might still surprise you before winter gets here. I also have a 4 year old Amabile Crinum that has not bloomed.

Lakesdecallas, from your name, I assume that you love Calla Lillies. I have planted the big Giant white ones, but can never get then to bloom for me. Do you have any tips on getting them to bloom?
