I wish my clematis is as healthy as yours, Happgarden.

That brug's Lemon Twist by the way.

This is our pride.
Hedychium Augustus Peach. Loves the corner of the house. Lovely ginger fragrance. Only attract butterflies and those long snout moths.

Look at all of those!! Very nice!!.

I'm praying for all of those who are in harms way or have lost from those fires. Most of you know that I'm from CA and the fires get bad this time of year because it's so dry, and I bet that Central Valley is socked in with smoke, as well as Los Angeles. Does anyone have pictures of the Central Valley, like looking down from the Altamont?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Pink V another Hedychium. Wonderful light raspberry center.

Crissy, hope you'd find someone that has pictures. You must be worried sick of your old neighbourhood.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Naw, my old neighborhood isn't ever in any danger of much of anything. It's in an older, very populated area of the city, they'll be fine. I'm worried about the air quality, one of the main reasons I left.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Oh my goodness Jaye "Pink V another Hedychium." that is awesome. Now just what kind of plant is it, other than another I've never heard of.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Faye, hedychiums are another ginger family.
I was pretty surprised that they do well in my area. Cut them back before the cold hits... mulch well... at least 6 inches.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Hello All! Thanks Jaye : ) I sure love them gingers!! The ones you sent me are doing well prolly never see them bloom tho ; ( That clematis is crazy !!!! awesome!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Beautiful pics of the the ginger.

heavenscape, I have lemon twist also. I got mine for $5.00 from park seeds last year. How does it smell? Like Lemon? ...LOL

Don't know why the clematis does so well because it is competing with a Maple tree. Under that clematis is a climbing rose believe it or not. None of my other clematis don't even begin to grow like this one.

Gingers are wonder, the smell is amazing. I have butterfly and Costus French Kiss. It is still small but growing. I swapped or another but I can't or the life of me remember the name.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is on! Time to wake up, and come smell all the wonderful gingers!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Thank you very much! You have GH right? I would love to smell a ginger bloom. I will try to keep them growing inside this winter. g'night all!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh Kim they smell wonderful. I have only smelled a butterfly, waiting for the other 2 to get big enough to bloom.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

A few years ago our senior center had a gardening group and one gal gave me a ginger plant she said was from Hawaii. Well, I planted it out in back and it did nothing. I blamed it on the bad soil so yesterday dug it up and going to put it in better soil and hope it grows. I didn't know how lovely they were so going to take better care of it. BTW they couldn't get anyone to come and talk to us about gardening, and they said they do so much for seniors! Well, we lost our group and both DH and I enjoyed that time so much. Now Ca. has cut back so much because of state budget I have to learn all I can from all the DG'ers here.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Hey, Peg start your own. I think every little community around me has a garden club of some kind. Most have started out just a couple of people and grown. Kind of like a book club except with plants.....

The master gardening program in college funded by some state money is being slashed to the bone. We have all decided even if it dies on the vine we are all staying together.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Where is everyone?? Must be enjoying some cool weather.

Pegi, my Augustus Peach took 3 years to bloom. Guess it was trying to establish itself.. but look at THEM now :D
The white butterfly ginger (Hedychium Coronora) is the only variety that didn't take that long. The rest took as long as the Augustus.

This is Hedychium Orange Spice. Second go-around. Took 3 years too.

Serendipity. My favorite single pink.
On it's 4th flush. As tall as Kel's workshop. Crazy me love to stand under it at night just to have myself 'infused' in their scent.

Jaye, those are beautiful! I bet they smell like your in heaven!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

So true LK. Even Kel enjoys brushing against the flowers when he's working in the shop :D He says it beats smelling his own sweat!

Hi everyone, had a wonderful but very tiring Fri. & Sat. There was a 5 family yard sale here in my yard and I have never seen so much stuff from so few people. We had a great time together and I alone made enough to pay for having a shower installed outside, between the Garage and the Sun Room. Used it Sat night about 8 pm and boy did "we" enjoy it. Had a tension shower rod that fit between the two outside walls, and had made a shower curtain from left over fabric of the Sun Room.
We will have another big sale in about a month because I have many, many Santa's and Angels that I've collected over the years and I have not used them in the last 7 yrs. Time to let them go....Cleaning out the attic.

Arbor leading to the shower. Wood is no longer in the hall.

Faye, I understand the Santas and the Angels. I decorate every room of the house for Christmas....I love the holidays, love the shopping, just love everything about it.....I have collected alot of things also and altho I still decorate some of mine needs to go also. Sadly I live in the country......so I need to do it at someone elses house except I am afraid I will be giving away something they gave me.....LOL

The blooms are beautiful. I have a couple open on Versi, I would say in about 3 days I will have a huge flush on about everything. I used Bayer on them and it has been a week and no ill effects......

The ginger that took 3 years, was that a cutting of someone elses? Some one gave me two small pieces and the greenery is about 3 feet tall now. Did yours go dormant over the winter or did they keep growing?......dang hate to wait 3 years......

Too tired to go back to work tomorrow....LOL

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hello again, missing everyone! Happy, good to see you here. Maybe you could do like my friend from Va. did to have a yard sale. She also lives out in the country so she came here with her yard sale items. No chance of seeing anyone that she knew except my Sisters. She did good with her sales too. I live 4 miles from the lake, and holiday traffic was heavy. In addition to holiday traffic, The church up 2 houses from me was having their yearly sale starting @ 8 am. Ours started @ 7. Of course people were here about 20 after 6, but we were ready. We started on Friday.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Faye, you must have been surprised with a profitable turn out! Never had a yard sale. I'm one of those that find it hard to let go of junk!!
You definitely have green thumbs Faye, look at your lush hyacinth bean vine.. so beautiful.

My Versi Peach isn't doing anything, not even a bud unlike Versi Orange. I'm still amaze at how long those blooms can be.
Happ, as for the gingers... I was growing them in Louisiana more than 20 years ago. When I moved here, I brought some rhizomes with me. Killed some costus, and the only ones I can leave in the ground here are the hedys and the hidden gingers.
They are of course dormant during winter. Just mulch them heavily, at least 6 inches. Survived last year's 3 days ice and snow. Thank God!

Well.. I shall bid you all a good night.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Jaye, no I wasn't surprised at the yard sale turnout. We had one in June that did great. It's the location of our home. Anyone on Satterwhite Pt. Rd. has big turnouts for anything. Actually I would have been surprised if the sale hadn't been a success.. I too am a pack rat, but this stuff had been in the attic since we moved here, I never saw it, didn't need it, and have no place to use it, and can always find a use for the $. Hope all will have a good day. Enjoy, pray and praise!
Going to the Y now , see you later.
Faye

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

heavenscape, Versi Peach blooms for me but it seems to need more fertilizer than I can always remember to give it......once I do she takes off like a rocket....I am not an expert by any means, ask JoesWife and AuntB, they are much more knowledgeable than I am about Versi Peach, but so far it is one of my favorites.....I have buds on Miss Anna, Lemon twist, Charles (something), my white triple, Versi, Pink (something), I just have a ton of buds on all kinds of brugs......can't wait for them to open.....I may do some selective keeping...I have limited space but I don't know if I can give any of them away.....

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!
What, no coffee in this room? LK.. where are you? Don't tell me I have to return to SI and grab a 2nd. cup :D

Happ, I think something's wrong with my VP. It's growing alright, but never Y'd. Drats..might just have to unearth the whole thing.
Like you, I find it hard to discard any, and the worst thing is I have the space :(
This was last year's pic.

Since we are brug crazy on the "general" forum.....LOL I had wanted to ask how your brug seeds did that Gordonhawk sent last year. Can't remember if he sent NOID or named? He had posted some beautiful pics I remember that and I didn't know if that is what he sent or not. All I really remember is he said they should be easy and grew fast.

Later,

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
