nice Rebecca flower Debra, lovely colours... :-)
i like your solid flaked Becky, i don't think you see them like that very often... nice one :-)
Thanks everyone! I have never seen a dark bloom with white streaks like that on my vine yesterday. Has anyone else seen that before? I hope I get seeds from that bloom! :-)
Interesting meaning of hige, Jon! Thanks for that clarification! :-)

Love the white striped one Becky! I hope you get seeds too!!
Becky, I remember getting some flowers like that from the seed you gave me. That variety has a different look with just about every flower that opens.
gardenpom - You got some, too? Very cool! I don't know why, but they really stand out! :-) Any Painted Buntings showed up your way yet?
Thanks, Ronnie! I would love to have a vine with tons of blooms like that one! Wouldn't that be cool?!!! :-)
I've had my Bunting feeders out two weeks now and not a single Bunting of any variety yet.
gardenpom - I don't know why the ones here didn't show last year. I would think they would be like most birds and return to the southern areas where they spend the winters. But maybe they are not like Hummers that return to the same places every year?
Mine have been spending winters in my yard for at least four years now......I am still hoping some will show. It's still early.
gardenpom - I haven't seen the bird since. Maybe it was just passing through. Maybe they were headed your way! :-) Taking the scenic route ... lol
The first ones were probably headed further South. I still have not seen any, and I'm really beginning to wonder if any will be around this winter. I hope they don't all go further South.
Well, perhaps because it is so warm here, it might be as well further North and they just haven't migrated that far south to you yet. I can't imagine them not coming back to the best vacation spot for Painted Buntings this side of the Atlantic Ocean. I know they get treated very well by you! :-) I am sure they are on their way to you as I write this! :-)
Maybe mine are still vacationing in the Carolinas.
:-) I bet they are! And they are on their way right now to their favorite spot in Melbourne! :-)
Are you still seeing any hummers? I still have the one in my yard. :-) I believe she is a year round resident.
I see at least one every day, plus I saw my first male a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if I'm seeing the same ones, or ones that are moving through.
I miss my hummers.. glad u all get to see the little cuties
Oooh! Some very nice I. purpureas on that site!
As I've always said, the Japanese and Asian countries sure know how to create some lovely MG I. nil and I. purpurea cultivars!
Makes your heart skip a beat to see some of these lovely blooms! :-)
oh thats pretty!
DASIYS - Welcome! Lovely little bloom you have there! If I am not mistaken, I believe that the Purple or Pink Flaked I. purpureas do produce blooms that were used to create Jaime Lynn. I think those blooms were isolated and that is how that cultivar was created. But that is just my guess.
Thank you beckygardener and joeswife! This one will most certainly be in my garden for a long time.
DASIYS - Did you manage to get lots of seeds from your vine? Since this species is I. purpurea, the seeds will survive the cold weather of winter. You should see volunteers come Spring! :-)
Well, it could be a mutation or the weather or who knows! LOL! Sounds like you are going to have a LOT of vine sprouts in the Spring! :-)
Cool hummer picture Darren!!! I saw one here in mid September (unusually late) but he/she was gone by the time I got the camera.
Joanne
Darren - Love the hummer photo! :-) And I also think the lovely I. purpurea blooms looks nice! It may be a cross.
Hi Joanne! I can't believe the hummers are still up there in Canada in late September! I wonder how fast they fly south? I've been seeing migranting males here as they pass through on their way to Miami. :-)
Hi Becky - I was totally shocked to see the one I saw in September; in fact, at first I thought it was a really big bee. LOL. In the past few years, I have seen them in my yard in mid-August.
Hi Joanne!
Darren, that sure looks like a blue rebecca I have here.... the warm spell we had for three days caused alot of blooms to come on, only to be blown around by cold wind today.. poor things..
Hi Joanne, good to see you post.
Darren, pretty bloom that does resemble Rebecca.
Need ID
A purpurea of this colour - never seen
Tricolor ????
