Debra - What a slew of flowers you have! This one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7007274 looks like Blue Star tricolor. Could that be a possibility? I don't know what Shiva looks like ...
For the love of pururea #2
Debra,
This Morning Glory is
FLYING SAUCERS Ipomoea tricolor

The bloom of your photo here

is the way Flying Saucers look when the Blue in the Flaked-Type Pattern is relatively sparsely

Also, 'Shiva' is only a 'Fuzzy Marketing Name' that has so far not been clearly associated with a particular type. I have seen it applied to purpureas that look like Milky Way and also to Light Blue Purpureas.

Thanks Emma, I didn't open the close up to see the speckles!! LOL good call!
REALLY??? A FLYING SAUCER??? YAY!!! ;D I hope I get another bloom because it is inside the honeysuckle vine out front..
Emma, you were right about your Plum Delight.. It is beginning to ramble around like the akatsu no mai.. and that one is all over the patio and tomatoe patch..love it..Ronnie, your lav purple mix is back up again, same spot, somehow it revived for another round..
Emmas' rebecca south fence is dying at the bottom, but flying at the top.. all over the bridal wreath bushes
Karens' Rebecca still fighting her way on the North fence, but is now part of the SOH of josephs.. I can't remember is SOH a nil or purp? Liz's Jaimie lynn is the star of the back corner right now..
Is there a link somewhere that lists the nils and purps, that would show the differences, that anybody knows of? I'm sure all I planted were purps, so would love to check out the nils, too. Can you tell I'm new to this? LOL!
Here is a link to Nils...a lot of the photos will show you how to tell the difference. I will be back with the purpurea link.

Thanks, luvsgrtdanes! Just had to laugh! Thought about your dogs playing with mine, (Corgis) What a mental pic that was LOL!!
Skell you can't believe how gentle they are with small dogs!!
Debra - VERY pretty Flying Saucer! Cool!
skellogg, i hear ya, covering up eyesores is a thing with me too.. I like your wire fences, i use those too..
Most of our yard is chain link fence, but want to cover it with some vining flowers too, as I like the chain link OK, just don't like it so plain looking, so want to dress it up some with some pretty flowers and vines. The wire fences do make great trellises! So easy to make pretty that way! Obviously need more MG's! Mine are still blooming, as a matter of fact, blooming better now than they have all summer! I'm just hoping I can collect some seeds from them before winter hits. ;-)
I'll have plenty to share Skell if you don't get enough.
Thanks, Luvs! I will be sure and let you know! Even my DH likes the MG's, and he doesn't care about any of the flowers especially! (Well, except for the one red NOID rose that he has had forever! ) He even goes and checks the MG's every day before he leaves for work and counts all the blossoms! Wow, found something he likes, finally! Teehee!
I, too, have seeds to share. You might be interested in the group seed swap in Dec/Jan, too!
Thank you, Ronnie.
Nice blooms gardenpom, Colin, and Ronnie! Colin - That solid is rather nice! I have to agree with Ronnie!
That last one you posted Ronnie is rather interesting. What was it supposed to be? Or was it just a wild NOID cross! Nice contrast of colors on it! :-)
Gardenpom - Okay ... my brain is still muddled ... did we not do a thread to wish you a Happy Birthday? Geez ... If not ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY and many, many more! :-)
Becky, editing my long post to say I was under the weather too, that;s putting
it mildly. So I started GardenPoms' thread a day late after I began to feel better.
Thank goodness it was a 24 hour bug and not any longer.

Becky it was a volunteer but I think it mat be a cross between a regular purpurea and Jamie Lynn, that grew there last year. I think I may get some seeds off it to try in the house over the winter.
Jackie glad to here your OK...this time of year starts all that junk doesn't it!!
Thanks Ronnie. Yes it does. Not to mention that my precious
g kids bring all that stuff home from school, all the germs. My
resistance appears to be lower now in my 60's.This time
my apple cider vinegar couldn't help. Waited to long to take it and
just threw it up too. lol
Ooh that couldn't have been good...sour going down not to mention coming up!! LOL
LOL exactly right.
Sorry Gardenpom, I seem to have missed your birthday! Hope you had a good one.
Jon
LOL! Ewww ... that was probably much worse coming up ... for more than one reason! LOL! You have my sympathy on that! Sheesh ...
Ronnie - I hope you get more vines from that unusual cross. Very unusual. :-)
Colin - Are there several different forms of Sydney? By that, I mean, colors? Just wondering. I have "Sydney" seeds and am wondering what they might look like. Of course, the only way to know for sure ... is to grow them out! LOL! But I am wondering about Sydney ...
As much as I enjoy my I. purpurea vines ... I am at a disadvantage here ... I. purpureas spread outta control here, so I can only grow a few a year in pots. I don't dare grow them in the ground as they will haunt me forever. Mine produce a multitude of seeds, too! Ironically, my Pink Flaked vines were looking pretty sad. Well ... this cooler weather came in and that seemed to spark life into them again! You should've seen all the blooms on my pathetic vines this morning. I was shocked. I think they prefer the cooler Spring and Fall temps here in my zone. Summer seems to fry them and they look puny and unhealthy. As these did only a few days ago. Sure was a nice surprise this morning! :-) :-) :-)
Purpurea, I love but wouldn't dare try them here! You can have too much of a good thing! They would take over, for sure! Ronnie your volunteer could just change my mind.....LOL. not sure I'd mind a garden full of those!
Jon
i like the colours on your feathered volunteer Ronnie and agreeing with Becky on this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7123535
Becky... i have only one strain of Sydney on the go, but the flowers are mostly the same as Light Blue Star and blue Caprice... i think there could be slight differences in colour etc. but the way purpurea flowers respond to the weather it's hard to tell... Sydney has larger flowers that last most of the day... Light blue star was dissapointing, closing early even in cool weather... and Blue Caprice was later to come into flower, but has put on an excellent show :-)
Nice reaching to the sky shot, gardenpom! :-)
Thanks Colin for the info about Sydney. I need to grow some of my seeds next year! :-)
Here I am boo hooing about not having much in the way of I. purpurea blooms to share. And since the cooler weather showed up, I now have blooms! LOL!
This is an unusual shot (for me, anyway ... considering how few I grow a year!!)
In this photo is a solid white, Purple Flaked, and Pink Flaked blooms! :-)
Becky, All are beautiful but I love the pink flaked.
Jackie - Thanks! I love them all! :-)
Debra - Nice blooms! Glad to see plenty of action still going on at your place. Pretty colors on that Rebecca!
