Colin, I love your collection, and I am glad you have so many pretty blooms.. now I think I will have help ID'ing some of the ones I havn't posted for lack of ID. Thanks so much. I really like your Lighter coloured ones.
thanks everyone... Purpureas grow better outdoors here than the nils... i think this is a great thread for showing off their variety... i mean have you seen alll the Joyce Cobb and Rebecca variations that in the earlier posts.... just lovely all of them... real Gems :-)
Joseph that effect i think is caused by my cameras anti-shake feature i get it a lot when it breezey....
Was so tired last night I didn't check this thread. Unbelieveable
blooms Colin. The Teressa is drop dead gorgeous, your's too
Ronnie. Never even heard of it before.
Jackie I believe Teresa is a sport of Joyce Cobb. I was told it was a dilute form. I should have plenty of seeds if you want some. They of course are open pollinated but I do have a vine that is away from the tangled mess I will be collecting from.
A volunteer hige. I tagged this one hopefully when the time comes I can find the tag! LOL
Ronnie, I would love a couple of seeds of the
Teresa, very impressive bloom.
I love the hige, just not very good at growing them for some reason.
I just keep trying, One day I might get it right. lol
Ronnie - Lovely purple hige!
Well ... the threads honoring and showcasing I. purpureas have brought a whole new respect to this species of morning glory! Thanks to everyone for posting some truly gorgeous bloom photos! I will continue to grow out my one or two I. purpureas every year, but now the choices of which ones to grow have become much more complicated. I want to grow them ALL! LOL! If only they weren't so aggressive growing here! (sigh) They are so beautiful and the flush of blooms really do them justice! They really shine when grown in a pot and the long vines are wrapped around at the top of the teepee bamboo poles. When they bloom ... OMG! Are they stunning! Nothing like it except the yaguruma vines/blooms! (And of course, that cultivar of I. nil is also I. purpurea ... so no surprise that it wows me too!)
What a terrific thread!
