Stop and visit, ... #33

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Arkansas doesn't have a lot of things I'm finding, like Chevron gas is in every state around us, outlets are in every state around us, casino's are on both sides of us, oh there's more I just can't think of them right at the moment...

(Zone 7a)

Mind boggling...

There is a store I need to get to. My niece told me about it. It's called Home Again. They call it a "Designer Resale, Consignment Homeware" store.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm going to see if I can find it on line, seems I've seen it somewhere, probably Memphis LOL

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Nothing, not even in the yellow pages.

(Zone 7a)

I can't find a website for it. I know there is more than one. homeagain.com is a pet site.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Lol I saw that! I thought, This ain't it! Oooooo Stevie Nicks on the radio, Absolutely Love Stevie Nicks

(Zone 7a)

I have the music on random. "Don't Dream It's Over." Crowded House.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I love 80's music. I'm listening to Tom FM, "Music From Our Generation" They play everything. We're not allowed to stream otherwise I'd be listening to my satellite radio on the computer.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Eurasure, Chains of Love. I wonder if all of these European bands are still on the charts in Europe, after their style fizzled here.

We used to have a Home Again store here. It was one of our favorites.

I have gone and seen a local band that plays 80s music twice now. They are playing again next weekend but I can't go darn it!!

www.retroactivekc.com That should be their site. They are really good!!

(Zone 7a)

I love those start shaped sunglasses!!! Those are great!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Yeah, They have cool costumes. And we always feel special cause the whole band will come and sit with us while everyone else has to look on with envy. LOL. Jeff is the guy we know the best. He works with a friend of mine.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey. Sorry, can't get any enthusiasm going. I had the FIRST surgery done. I don't think the surgeon took 'suturing 101'. They didn't pull out, he just left them gaping open. Sooooo, it's still not healed. I still have huge bruising on my palm and my arm. He told me to "work with my hand, like normal". So I did. And blood would run everywhere. And hurt. So if blood was running and it hurt, well duh, don't do it. I think I go in something like 2 weeks to see him again to talk about doing the left hand. Just when I don't think I can get anymore tired of it, I get even more tired of it.

I'll get my mind on something else. Guess what I came across yesterday? I KNEW I had a cassette of my mom's cousin "interviewing" my great-grandma. She came over on a boat from Sweden in 1912, she was 18. She came with a girlfriend. I had listened to part of it, got interrupted and never got back to it. Oh, the tape was made on her daughters, my grandma's birthday, in '86. My mom's birthday is the next day, so it was a duel celebration, plus Diana and her mother and step-dad all live in CO. I could never figure out where I had put that darn cassette and I thought it was just gone forever and then there it is. I was rearranging drawers in the kitchen last night and so I listened to great-grandma talk in that broken Swedish accent of hers. I was so shocked at some of the questions that Diana asked. Great-grandma married some guy that fathered her 3 children, and I would have thought Diana would have asked some questions regarding him. Not a one!! Great-grandpa was great-grandpa, but I also always heard him called Harold. He married Diana's mom (grandma's sister) and my mom's mom after they were both married, so he was never their "dad". But Diana was sure interested in asking all kinds of questions about "grandpa". Even great-grandma got confused a couple times!!! LOL I was sitting, standing really, thinking to myself, why would she wonder how she met Harold and not the blood grandfather? Weird. Then she asked a question that I'll never understand. She asked great-grandma if she ever went back to Sweden. Good question, right? But then she follows it up with.....and who paid for it? Did grandpa?? Who the heck cares Diana?? I don't know if my grandma knows the answers to some of the questions I now have, but I'll try. Great-grandma was always getting me confused with my sister. If she told me my butt was getting too big then I knew she knew it was me....LOL She was always giving things away. She killed me...lol. I don't mean knick-knack type things, I mean strawberries she'd put up, or if I was lucky they'd be raspberries. Yummy. Anything she could pull from the freezer that she thought had been in there too long. Even if great-grandpa had just bought it within the week, she was telling me to take it home. You didn't argue with her, you did as you were told☺ I won't try and snow you all and tell you she was a sweet ole lady, because she wasn't. Not that bad, I just didn't come from a maternal side of the family touchy feely side of the family and she was no different, maybe she started it. I have no idea. And you know there's more to it than just the touchy feely part, you just can't really describe it.

Well, my hand is hurting pretty badly and left wrist is hurting. So I'm off!! See ya when I see ya☺☺☺

forgot to add, great-grandma was 91 at the time of the taping. Her daughter, my grandma, will be 91 on the day that diana did the taping with great-grandma. i thought that kinda strange.....

(Zone 7a)

Wow! Interesting stuff, Terry. About your hand, what comes next?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

That is interesting Terry. I love learning about old family and all. The only thing I know about my mom's great grandparents is I have one picture of them, don't know either one of their names even though my mom has told me 1000 times, and she's Cherokee Indian. Here's the pic

Terry I can't believe the dr didn't tighten the stitches. How long has it been since your surgery? Can you tell if it helped?

(Zone 7a)

What a cool pic!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Yea, it needs some frame repair so I can hang it up in here. I think her last name was Flowers. It's my mom's dad's grandparents.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

August 24th? I think that was the day. Yes, I'm still here.....LOL I switched computers and this one works better, not that I'm not still sore, it just works better. Yes, my hand and fingers and wrist all feel better, but where the stitches were still kind of hurt (imagine that!) and the bruising! Man, I don't bruise as a general rule, so I didn't know it hurt so bad. You know how the doctor cleans it all out in there and it's not nice and easy, hence the bruising, so my wrist hurts. It's not a falling down dead kind of hurt, more of an annoyance than anything. Couple Advil couple times a day helps a lot.

I have no idea what Harold was. Nice? Jeepers, I mean ethnicity or whatever. Wanna know a secret? Not really a secret anymore and I don't know who would care one way or the other....Harold had been having an affair for years. I mean years...spread your arms y e a r s I believe but I don't know for sure, that there is a daughter born of this affair. You know grandma was mad, grandpa was mad, Aunt Mag was mad, Uncle Bob's never mad...lol....I listen and I gather....hmmmmm. This lady was the executor of great-grandpa's will. Not grandma. Not her sister Mag. But this unknown woman. Oh boy did stuff hit a fan....lol! In and out comes my annoyance at people getting mad about whatever because they're not getting whatever they think they should get. I mean money. Again, uncle Bob couldn't care less. I think he was as amused as I was!

So anyway, when great-grandma went back, she wasn't able to see her brother. He was living in Norway. I'm not good at what country is where or for that matter some of the states I'm confused on where they are! The way she talked, Norway is just next door or below or something anyway from Sweden. I didn't say before, but this interview wasn't done in a nursing home or anything like that. She and Harold were still living out at the farm. There were quite a few funny moments in the interview. One of them was Diana asking her something about marrying Harold, grandpa she was saying. Of course great-grandma was confused....lol...so Diana says Harold. Great-grandma, when asked about marrying Harold when she had kids at home, she exclaims in only the way she could....NO!!!!!! I HAD CHILDREN!!!! It was like it should have been a no brainer for Diana! I LMBO over that and I'm still laughing!! I really dislike when women are referred to as broads. With that in mind and said with the deepest affection and love for my great-grandmother, she really was a tough broad. She really and truly was. Her husband was running around on her...her children's father. She divorced him and had to find a job to support her young children. She fought and she fought, never giving up. Someone told her about taking in laundry so she could stay home with her children. She worked and somebody else told her she should take in boaders AND do the laundry. She did the laundry until she had enough money to buy a house and then she took in boaders. I had an uncle Walter. The youngest child. Great-grandma was hanging laundry on the clothesline when Walter fell into the cistern. You could hear it in her voice as she told the story, that it was as if that day had been yesterday. It was very important to her and I'm not sure why, but uncle Walter had long hair. She said that a few times as she was describing when he was down in the cistern. I don't know the significance of that, but it meant something. Diana wasn't smart enough to inquire what. Course I kick myself NOW. If I had listened to the whole dang tape I would have heard it and then I would have asked her!! Man, I would have asked her a whole lot of questions that Diana didn't bother with! I tell ya, Barbara Walters she ain't!! The questions I wish she would have asked about uncle Walter. He later went into the service and I don't know what happened, but we all know it now as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). He ended up in the streets of Chicago as a "wino" and died there. I don't know if I ever saw him or not. I don't know what age he was when he went to war or what war he fought in or anything of that nature. My grandma will know. I need to start making a list of questions to ask her! Oh and my great-grandma's name was Ellen. But it wasn't spelled that way. Not really. How it became spelled that way in America, I don't know. I'm not sure how the spelling was, it's in her bible that my mom has. My mom is the oldest granddaughter. I'm not sure that's why she has it, but it's my guess. My great-grandma had lots of valuable things from Sweden and she had Hummels and who knows what all else. Between Mag and my grandma, they wiped her out. Mag would come with one big huge suitcase. Inside that suitcase though, were probably at least 2 or 3. I mean they wiped her out long before she ever died.

I am up so past my bedtime!! I think something's up with Zoey. Not sure what. She doesn't move unless moved. Right now she's up against my leg here on the couch. I don't know what she'll do when I move. I'm worried.

(Zone 7a)

It's amazing what you can learn about your family, isn't it. "Winos'' and "tough cookies"!

Let us know what's up with Zoey.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Whew terry!!! LOL.

Been outta town all weekend. Very eventful. Illinois on Friday for funeral (Carrollton for you Terry), back home that night, up early Sat and into Iowa (Des Moines) for my neice's b-day party, back home that night, and Sunday afternoon went to a farewell party for a cousin joining Air Force. That wasn't too far away buuuuuuttt.........

We took my grandpa's towncar. I got stuck in the middle of the backseat with grandma on the left and my mom on the right. There's a hump in the floor so my knees are close to my face (I have long legs). During the whole trip my grandma never would get over so I could move my left arm. It was squished against me and I could go up and down but that was about it. My whole arm still hurts a bit from that. Some other stuff went on too that I'll skip mentioning so the drive to and from was torture. Next time I will just follow and drive myself. lol.

(Zone 7a)

Those towncars aren't as comfortable as people make them out. Sorry you had a bad time.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

It would have been worse if we had been in my mom's Escape cause it's alot narrower. lol.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

You're leaving out you had that bump up your you know? Typically if there's a hump in the floor, there's the hump in the middle of the seat!!

Zoey seems fine. I don't know what was wrong with her. I got up to go to the bathroom, it was barely getting light out, and I could see that she wasn't in her crate, she was laying on Krista's rug all curled in a ball. She's been fine ever since. I just have no idea on what was up.

I keep meaning to grab that picture of all 5 generations. It's right up there on an antique dresser I put in the alcove thingy, yet I walk by it and forget. I've been going to grab that photo for how long??? jeez I'm old and my brain isn't working (pepper no comment from the peanut gallery needed!!) Anyway, in that picture and maybe it's just me because I knew my great-grandma, but I think you can see how tough a woman she was. Like, I look at a picture of my aunt, the one younger that me that passed away whenever that was...1 1/2 yrs. ago?? Anyway, she looks like an angel, but she has that twinkly spark in her eye that helps you see what a jokester, but a lover that she was. And again, it might just be because I knew her.

Well, John got off work early and he's calling to me. So off I go!! To do what I have no clue..LOL

(Zone 7a)

Let us know!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh Terry it is so interesting learning about family like that, you should ask your grandma those questions. I had a bunch of questions for my dad's mom and didn't because she was long winded, now she's gone and I'm wishing I had.

Oh Pep I know exactly how that is! I'm 5'9" and all legs. I used to get stuck in the middle all the time but now my legs fall asleep plus I get motion sick, so phooey on all of them.

My mom has an escape, it's nice but not for riding in the middle of the back seat.

I love it when you go off to do something and you have no idea what you're going to be doing. Hope you had a great time! Glad the surgery is working on that hand.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Ya know....my grandma D. has always hated me. Hated my brother, me, my sister....I don't know why, she just did. When I was a kid, I felt sorry for Sue. Sue turned to booze when she was 14 and later, years later, grandma said it was Rochelle's fault? Say huh? My parents made me stay for 2 dreadful weeks at their house. I didn't mind Sue terribly, she was a brat and anything she did that was wrong was all my fault. I used to get so ticked off at her. It was how it was, so it just was what it was. And years later when Sue annoyed the living daylights out of me by crashing a nice quiet evening with some friends of mine down in AR, I beat her up! I did..LOL!!! Right now my nails aren't long, but they usually are and always have been. Even then, that night. I was afraid I was going to break a nail, so I called to a girlfriend to come take over for me!! Don't mind me as I remember...lol...this was the night when she took off from Ruthie's grasp, said she was going to go "kill herself" and some guy came back later and said she'd gone to the water, saying she was going to drown herself. Yea right. He told me as her niece, I had to do something! Why did everyone think I could somehow control her? sheesh! So anyway, I decide I'll get her, I'm going to tell on her. I don't care, I am so sick and tired of babysitting her. I go back to the house with my other friends, go inside and wake up grandma. I tell her Sue took, says she's committing suicide. You can all see this right? She's wringing her hands, oh my oh my, well you do whatever you have to do to find her!!! Oh yea? Now what did she think I was going to do? Look for her myself? I think not. I went and found my buddy, the town cop!! ROFL That was so funny! George tells me he's getting off work pretty soon, we had been over in Lakeview, which really isn't in his jurisdiction (it's the next county), but for me? Oh yea....LOL He knew all about Sue and her escapades!! Somehow they find Sue and George gets her in his squad car to take her home. Ah, finally, peace once again. We're heading out/down to the bottom of the dam (White River side) again, and all of a sudden Jim pulls up beside us and I can hear his CB radio squawking. And then I hear what I didn't want to hear, "Terry, George says Sue won't go in the house if you're not there. Your grandparents say you need to come home now" I need to, I NEED to??? Kiss my ever loving.....lol....Jim said he'd drive me, so I get out of Darryl's car and into Jim's. Off to the house I go, leaving my car behind. Sue was possessed that night!!! Jeez, if looks could kill!! Then she leans forward when grandpa tells me I have to come inside and go to bed, she leans in and says she's sleeping with a knife under her pillow so can come in and stab me while I'm sleeping!! She said it in front a cop, let alone her parents. Her parents, my grandparents! Does anyone say anything, except me? Well, Jim did. Should we get you a bag for tonight Terry? Huh, yea!! I wasn't sleeping there!! So I didn't sleep there, I went with Ruthie where I could not sleep for the life of me. Better than being stabbed though! Highly doubt that Sue would have ever done such a stupid thing, I don't care how drunk she was. Thanks for taking this walk down memory lane with me...lol :-)

We went with my parents and the above grandma for supper Fri. night. I started out with my story of finding my lost cassette, mind you laughing the whole way thru, except to say of course that I thought the cassette was gone forever. Then I went into the questions Diana was asking, LAUGHING, sorry, not meaning to shout, just wanting to make sure you all understand, and you know what grandma says? In the snottiest tone the Devil could give out, she tells me "she (Diana) was only trying to get a conversation going!!!" She does this hmph thing at the end of most sentences. I KNEW how she'd take it, so I laugh and that does nothing. I knew it and she didn't disappoint. She has hated me from day 1. Not day 2, day 1. Ask Bob, my brother, he'll tell ya the same thing. She hates him too. So ask her anything more? I'd get the same dang thing I get now. A lot of hmphs and a whole lot of I don't knows.

I thought we were off to do something, I wasn't. I was off to go see what he found crawling on the wood floor!! Yes, it was a big spider, but I do have a light, he could have brought it to me! I don't think he knew I was on here to be fair.

Did any of you watch 'Design Star' on HGTV? I did. I really wanted Antonio to win and was so glad when he did! His first project is on right now and I can back it up all the way so that I can be done by 10.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I LOVE Design Star and I was rooting for Antonio too!! We share good taste. LOL

That's a pretty funny story about what happened that night with Sue. It's always funny later on down the road.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Terry that is funny. Good grief the drama one person can cause.

I've never heard of it, when is it on??

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

It's over for the season now but it's on HGTV. It's a show where they have I think it's 10 designers competing for their own show. They have to do certain things every week and each week at least one person is eliminated each week. Last person standing get's their own show.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

So it's kinda like The Next HGTV Star, like The Next Food Network Star?

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Pretty much. lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Lol!

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

The really cool thing about Antonio though, was that he never studied design. It just came to him naturally. I didn't like the white room design, but everything else he did was cool. I would also say that it's not quite like Food Network, I mean everyone cooks, right? Not everyone on HGTV designs things. There's other stuff, and I don't mean garden things. In the morning they have 'Cash in the Attic', then 'If These Walls Could Talk'...they aren't about design or gardening. Krista likes watching The Food Network and so did Phyllis. I watch a little of it, but the ingredients!! And all fresh??! I can't get fresh parsley or basil or thyme or bay leaves....we don't have a big huge market to buy all these fresh ingredients. We have a farmers market, but it's just a small, maybe a dozen or less vendors in there. I don't know anyone that uses as much onion as these people do. I've seen in a cookbook to use 1 large onion...and I've always wondered who the heck would use that much? I guess lots of cooks do? I don't know. I only know I don't know any of them!! LOL People would probably hear a recipe of mine and say something about it being bland or maybe even blah. "It would be better if you added some mushrooms and green peppers and and and"....I can't eat those things. That's when you think of a 2 yr old and you're trying to get them to eat these. I'm horrible!! ROFL

I saw the doctor yesterday. I play a little practical joke on him. I heard the door opening, so I hurried up and pulled my hand up and put my head down, hair falling in front of face. The doctor walks to the side of me and asks "So! How's everything going?" To which I replied, in a very in pain type of voice, "am I supposed to be in such excruciating pain?" He says "NO!" and I say, as I lift up my head and now I'm laughing "that's good then!" LOL I truly thought he was going to bop me on the head with the folder he had in his hand on my head!☺

Well, I hope this came out. Everything always seems to have to be a JPEG (I think) picture in order to work anywhere. This scanner would only scan as an IMG. Which I have no clue what either ones initials mean. I also have seen some people try to put a picture up, only to have their picture be really really small. I have no clue why that happens. So I don't know how big this is. I hope it's right. I'm on the desktop. I had to be in order to use the scanner and get the picture. My right wrist can't take this. So I'm off!

Oh jeez! Real quick....great-grandma holding Krista in front, grandma, my mom, then me. Picture is from 6/2/83

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Great pic!! I can't believe how black Krista's hair is!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Terry they (I) use a lot of onion because it cooks down into nothing, and the heat is cooked out so you're left with this very very mild sweet taste. I leave my chunks big too. Love cooked onion!

Wow, that's a good pic! How neat!

(Zone 7a)

I agree on both points. Onions are the best!!! LOL What a great pic! How many generations?

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

When you guys cook, you're actually using one of those big onions and you're using the whole thing? Holy toledo, I can't imagine using all that onion!! I don't mind some onion, but a big onion in, say one pound of ground chuck made in to a meatloaf. I'm more like, a slice. A thin slice. I really wouldn't mind if the onion was sweet. Or what I call sweet, I guess. It seems every time I buiy an onion labeled as sweet, it's bitter. You know how you try to get your kid to eat something new and different? And they wouldn't? That's me!! Funny thing is though, I love to cook. Can't stand what I'm cooking and more than half the time it's seriously grossing me out, but I know John's going to love it, or his brother, or whoever. But for myself and poor John? I'm not adventurous. I made chicken cacciatore once. It called for a bay leaf and since we can't fresh anything like that around here, I bought dried. Followed the directions to a T. It was horrible!! John wouldn't eat it either. I say it was the bay leaf, since everything else was something we'd had before. I got the recipe out of a well known cook book that I can't think of the name of, but it's normal things. Except for the bay leaf. I've made other recipes I've found on-line, that I tweak. Heaven forbid a green pepper cross my lips!!! LOL Had to come back to tell what's being cooked. Black bean burgers. Nope, I ain't eating 'em. Sweet potato fries. Nope, ain't eating those either. Chick pea salad? gag. Farm stand pizza? ick. Where's the peanut butter and jelly??? Don't ask me if I've ever even tried any of the above. It makes no difference, coz I'm not eating any of that icky stuff.

Another cooking question. Why do all the "chefs" on TV, add olive oil or extra virgin olive oil, to their ground beef or sausage BEFORE cooking?? I don't get it. You never see them drain it then either.

Krista still has that really dark hair. She was born with really long hair, covered the collar in back and her bangs needed cutting when she finally came home. Part of the hypothyroidism. She has no thyroid, so we almost lost her. Doc said one day longer, if my appointment had been one more day...They use her picture up here for teaching in Endocrinology. "Classic" is what she was called. She was allowed to come home for something like 5 days, maybe only 4. I think she was released from hospital where she was born on Fri. and my appointment with pediatrician wasn't until Tues. Her temp was too low, she wouldn't eat and she wouldn't poop. But they let her out. I was 24 and scared. Been here before, didn't want to do it again. So anyway, I was told to get one of those dummy lights I think they're called, the kink you hook on a car when working on it? I had to clip that on her porta-crib. I had to keep her wrapped up in 3 receiving blankets, hat on her head. I had to take her temp when I took her out to feed and re-take it when I put her back in. I had to keep a log of her temps and how much she ate. Girls, I'm talking she ate like 1/8 of an ounce. I never could get her to eat even an ounce. Her bilirubin was too high, but it was down enough the doctor felt she could leave until her appointment with the pediatrician...don't ask me. While feeding, she'd fall asleep and I had to keep knocking the bottom of her feet. I just felt so inadequate as a woman as a mom. At the appointment, the doctor flipped her in his hands, I can still see it in my head. It was like she was a piece of meat. Face up one on hand, face down flip to the other hand. Then he looks at me, then to my mom and says, I need to get my associate. The other doctor came in, looked at me and said "drive immediately to St. Francis hospital. I will call now so they're waiting. Do not walk, run!" Scared the living daylights out of me. For some reason, this endocrinologist walked in, took one look and wanted a test run. It showed she had no thyroid. We had this doctor. Everybody called him ET. His name was Eric Tate. I have no idea what happened to him. He had to hold Krista and I walked beside him when we went to have this test done. We got to the room or whatever you'd call that area where you're at before they do the test. I was then holding Krista, and he wanted her. I always held her close to my heart, like on it really...lol. Dr. Tate took her and Krista craned her neck, looking for me and Dr. Tate said "she knows who you are!!". He thought that was pretty cool, she wasn't even 2 weeks old. So anyway, the next day when I arrived, one of the nurses was feeding her rice cereal with the Synthroid down in it. I thought it was funny, my girlfriend wouldn't feed her child any food until he was a yr old!! Poor kid. Her doctor thought that was the way to go. Should have seen her face when I babysat him and he was starving, so I went out and of course my (other) girlfriend had sweet potatoes! She was tossing the kid up in the air and he puked on her. Orange. oooops. She was about to take him to the ER. I had to come clean. Oh was she mad!!

Celia, 5 generations are in the pictures. Great grandma, grandma, mom, myself and Krista. 5 woman. Krista, her mom, my mom, my moms mom and her moms mom.

I have a hair appointment, so I better get going!

(Zone 7a)

Terry, you like what we call "kid food"! LOL I do, too. PB & J, tuna, beans and franks...
