Mmmmm, I bet this will be filled with salsa in no time, huh Marie?!!?

I'm finally back online. Last Thur when I flew into OC, there were internet problems. I was lucky to be able to go online at my daughter's in Chino and again at Weegy's on Sat. Well, Time Warner just left and everything is back to normal. I was having withdrawals. LOL

Thank you, Louise for the day and to everyone who "made" the day.

Curried Lamb in Pita
is not really a "recipe". You just put onions, fresh garlic and ground lamb in a frying pan; break it up while it is cooking; add curry powder; add a bag of frozen peas at the end. I especially like using the Greek Pita Bread from Trader Joes as it is tastier than regular.

We certainly had some lovely new people at this one; hope we didn't scare them away! DP, it was nice to chat with you a bit; I really enjoy your "quotes" thread. You certainly are a devoted gardener. Maybe next time we'll meet your DW. Samigal is so enjoyable.

Quyen, my dear . . . I am sooo sorry you didn't make it and I am sooooo sorry for me that your lemongrass chicken didn't make it. (I only live 5 minutes from you . . hint . . hint)

Though we met at Dr Don's, it was good to see Rodica and Marie again . . . and actually get acquainted with them . . . and thanks for the last minute help with the lamb! What a fiasco that was! I was extremely pleased that people liked my heirloom tomatoes that I hauled on the plane from Iowa.

WC, also missed you and, of course, Kanita. :( dillansnana . . . what a pleasure to meet you!

They rest of the "old gang" . . . I never get to see enough of you.

Thank you for making this happen!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Thank you Arlene, I'm going to make it real soon.
Oh yes, Quyen, I forgot to say I'm sorry you missed the RU and hope that your car issue is fixed. Hope we see you at the next one. Sherry, missed you and Kanita, where are you?!?!?!
Good times were certainly had this past weekend!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Louise, the picture you posted was Tony holding Buddy, Lynda's (quiltygirl) DH, mine was sitting in a corner never moving from his spot. He said staying out of trouble. LOL Just loved the darling new member, Emma.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Didn't I put Tony???! I knew who it was, just a itty bitty mistake. Will correct that!
I see what I did, wrong wife!!!! Sorry.

blonde moment weege !

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yep...looks like you all had a great time as usual, wish I'd been there..and, yes, where is Kanita? She may be having problems.....

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You're so right Mike, it was late when I posted pictures too!
Sherry, we need to check in on Kanita...hope all is well with her.

Fresno, CA(Zone 9b)

Weegy and all . . . it looks like you had a wonderful time. That yard, the pond and koi, are delectable (pun intended). It sounds like you were able to modulate the temps to meet your collective needs, wahoo. Baby Emma? Too cute to believe at her first RU. And DP (dear puppy) certainly has a malleable spine and legs to lie about with. And all the old and young of you? You look like you had a GR8 time. Wish I was there. Perhaps next year. I spent time playing in my own yard this year, errrr, working, playing catchup, but not finished yet.

Tell us more about your party as you think of stuff to share.

My best,
Linda aka Twincol

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Sorry I missed the party! I'm glad you all had a good time. : - )
Spring RU at our place is a possibility, I know you all are worried about the work involved for me. Really there isn't too much work involved. Except digging up plants, LOL!
It's available and the price is right.
See what else you all can come up with. Either way it gives me something to look forward to. : - )
DP, Emma is not motley, she is beautiful! : - )
JD you are the man! Thanks for sharing all those DL with DP. I can't wait to see it all blooming!
I'm trying to come up with something that you can plant, and all I can think of is lantana. Do you want some variously colored lantana seed for your DG garden or some place around the campus? Well if you do, LMK, DP.
Hey, how'd the white elephant thing go?
WIB,
SW

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I'm sorry you missed it too but I'm afraid if Oceanside was an option, I would have missed it too! I volunteer to help you with the spring RU if you decide to have it and I know of several others here would be more than happy to help out too.
The white elephant went well, I got what I wanted! It was a beautiful bottle that I now have my olive oil in...(thank you Rodica) and the other was a very nice teapot.
Twincol, maybe you can make the spring gathering?!?!!?

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Yep, I'll help, too. I hope to visit there before then, though!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh boy! A tour of the farm when it's green and pretty, not dry and dusty! Let's just plan on it, and you all can start figuring out what to bring. : - )
DH is demanding I eat now!
Back after our low tide walk.
WIB!
SW

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Hey, SW, I can help too and am certainly close enough.

What a tease you are talking about a low tide walk. At least we have had 2 cool (it's all relative, that mid 80's is cool) days. As hot as it was, I was worried about weegy's place on Sat. Glad they all reassured me it would be comfortable enough - it was! Missed you.

Lynda

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I missed you all too, Lynda. I'm glad it was cool, green and shady at weegy's.
See how ya all were worried about me having to do all the work? DG'ers seem to pull together.
I was lucky enough to get rid of some society garlic, which Lynda took off my hands. I plan on transplanting the rest of it around the chicken pen, as a deterrent to the four footed. I do like the flowers, and it does have a really strong odor. So I was very happy to meet QuiltyGirl, especially since her DH did the digging. She really is just down the road.
Maybe if we schedule it right we can get RoadRunner to join us too! : - )
It'd be nice to find a date that would work for everyone. Let me get home and see when the scouts usually come out, and we'll try to schedule for the same month. Probably be the most fun I've had since we were holding the Pow Wow's there.
I also have lots of RV parking available, just in case some want to come early or stay late. We do have some electricity up front (along Scott Road) too, but no septic/hookups. I won't make you drink the dry water, but you can taste it if you want. LOL!

I've never had a "date" that worked for me, let alone everyone!!! But then, I haven't dated since I got married.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

You are so right DP.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

You don't have to volunteer for the R-U; you can have a garden party anytime you wish; just post it and it will happen.

Donna will choose where the R-U will be; there are many factors that enter into the choice of the R-U location, especially being "central" on location. You need to wait for Donna's input It's a long ways away and she is working on it. Please defer to her.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

TLC, you got it! We will wait to hear from Donna about the RU. Sounds like she has been putting some thought into this. : - )

Hey, DP,

Quoting:
I've never had a "date" that worked for me, let alone everyone!!!

I haven't had very many dates since my divorce! LOL, ROFL!!!

Actually, the most fun I've had on a date since then was early this year when the guy who owns a skiploader with all the long drill bits to dig into our hardpan and through 60YO tree roots came over. This guy is a master. His truck, trailer rig and the skiploader were all spotless, without a speck of dust on them, although the drill bits, of course were dusty but without mud. Watching him was a hoot. He swung that little tractor about with abandon and dropped the drill bits precisely where they belonged for nearly 30 6-ft holes. He was amazing. I giggled and laughed the entire time he was here dancing in the front yard. When he asked what was so funny I told him that his "tractor-language" and his dancing was. He asked me if I wanted to dance. Too funny!!

I've had him work here before and trust him totally. It is such a delight to have professional people perform so professionally. Heaven knows, often enuf I end up having to wait for weeks for someone to return after numerous phone calls, hire a second pro, or simply give up and do it myself or leave the job as it is. But this guy is all pro and all too humorous to watch work.

Kinda sad, if such a date is the most fun you've had on a date in so many years, eh?

Thanks for the catch and I'm delighted to share it with you,
Linda

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Sounds like my kind of date, Linda

Crossville, TN

Date! Did some one mention my name and a DATE in the same breath? OHHH I hope he has an RV....what? Not a date for me, but a date for the RU? OK...I think my DGD's ship won't be back until about March...and I certainly would want to see her if I came out that way...so let's see what we can do for after Amy gets back. Jo

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

SW, of course you are right to offer to host the RU! How else would we know? LOL!
Winter will go fast, even though it will seem like forever, so we can start looking at the calendar any time as far as I'm concerned.

Jo, we must get you there this time and I'm glad Amy will be back in early spring - that makes the odds much better.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Jules, you are wonderful to offer to host the RU and I think we should put that at the top of the list. We still need to do a lot of talking about dates, etc. Sounds like we have a lot of volunteers to help you also.

I need to clear up any misunderstandings that may have resulted from Arlene’s message above. I am not in charge of the roundups and I have no desire to be “in charge” of the roundups in the future. I look forward to OUR roundups each year and I have always tried to help out when needed. On some occasions I have volunteered to get the roundup planning started and organized so we could have the best roundups possible, but I have always thought everyone should be part of planning and organizing the roundups whenever possible.

I sincerely appreciate Arlene’s vote of confidence, but our roundups belongs to all of us and I will always try to help make our roundups a fun event for everyone who attends. I look forward to being part of the many volunteers who make the roundups a success.

Donna

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I'lll just follow the leader. LOL

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Just tell me where to stand and what to lift and carry. Count me in.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Donna,
I believe that our sweet Samigal was trying to make sure that we had your input, before we started talking dates, etc. It's a matter of respect, for you. No harm, no foul. Just a lot of appreciation for all your efforts in the past! : - )
I'm glad that you rotflol, Twincol. You really need to get out more often! I'd take you out for a date, and we'd have some fun, but you are way up in Fresno! : - (
However, I did enjoy reading about your awe of someone who really knows his stuff. Like art, isn't it?
The last time I laughed like that, was the first time I went to see my Chiropractor after the car accident. I swear that it felt so good after he "adjusted" me and put bent bones back where they belonged, that I laughed for at least 20 minutes. It felt so good not to hurt! : - )
roadrunner, yup, it was me, I mentioned your name. When does Amy get home?
I don't have a spare RV, but those of you who do, might like to camp out for the weekend. Tent camping is allowed too. : - )
Since you are one of those people I really want to meet, roadrunner, I really hope you can come. You are missed! BTW, did you see the RR photos that KC took? Wonderful!
I also want to check on the date that the Cub Scouts come out for their "Play Day", to avoid possible date conflicts. Before the Cubs started coming out to our farm, they had it on asphalt. It was really hot and they didn't get to experience the rural setting. : - )
We like keeping it rural.
I'll start working on my spring hike thread, to give you all an idea of what to expect. It'll be a real treat for a lot of you.
To all of you who've volunteered, I really do appreciate it, and I know and am not too proud to admit I probably will need some help. DH is good about moving the big stuff. He is an artist with the forklift. LOL! I just want everyone to be comfortable and happy.
Is everyone good with that? We will work out the details along the way. : - )
Walk In Beauty!

DP you are in. : - )
You also don't have to wait that long to come visit. : - )
WIB,
SW

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks for saying so. Maybe Lisa and I can come up there when she comes out next.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I'd love to meet her, and show off the place. Not that I can take much credit. Mostly we left it alone. : - )
Just let me know. Same goes for the rest of you. You don't have to be shy, and if you are, we understand. : - ) You miss out on a lot of fun, if you don't let people know you want to play! : - )
WIB,
SW

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

There, Linda, see? You have to come and watch the master of the forklift!

Our next door neighbor, who dug our pond, is also quite good with several pieces of equipment. Does it go with the job that he is very patient and calm when working?

Crossville, TN

I doubt that Amy knows the exact date of their return...but I'll email her to get a ball park date...Jo

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

DH says you sure don't want to drop any bee hives on the ground. LOL!
My DH is a very patient man. Have to be calm to work with bees.
Once DH got his tractor stuck. I heard this from my neighbor.
She was watching him when he got it stuck. He got off the tractor, scratched his head, kicked a tire or two. Shook his head, then called AAA. She told me that if it had been her DH, he'd have been cussing up a storm. She was so amazed at how calm my DH was.
AAA had to get a crane out there and lift the tractor out, over the fence and they placed the tractor on the dirt road next to the fence where he got stuck. All the neighbors showed up to watch. It was sort of funny and DH took a lot of ribbing about it.
He'll probably be all done with moving things around before the RU, but he can do all kinds of amazing things with the heavy equipment. If only I could teach him not to weed whack my plants! ; - )
Let us know, Jo!

We're going to have to make him a badge that says "Head Weed-Whacker."

Our areas Garden Tour is usually the first weekend of May, so I would like to stay away from that weekend if possible.....

We need a 2010 calendar for blackout dates.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

How's this!!

Thumbnail by weegy12
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Got one at home. Good idea to rule out the dates people have other things going on. I like hanging out with smart people! : - )
Love the idea of the "Head Weed Whacker", but as Quiltygirl can attest to, he weed whacks everywhere and spreads that nasty grass I'm trying to get rid of. Other than his weed whacking ways, he's a pretty nice guy. He totally doesn't understand gardening for food, but I'll work on him. : - P
I stopped going out there because he had the rows (?) set out too close and I kept slipping and tripping. Don't need to make rows of anything other than the drip line. Then I plant next to the emitters. Learned the hard way. He has been hand watering which is probably why the plants didn't do so well. He didn't remember to mulch either. He did get some good eating corn, and we don't have to pay for cornstalks for decorating the Pumpkin Patch. LOL!
May is almost too late, starts to dry out by the end of the month, unless it's an El Nino year. I was thinking late March or April? How does that work for the rest of you? Weigh in y'all or you'll get what the little piggy got. : - )
